Synopsis Based on Little Orphan Annie, the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, Annie has become a worldwide sensation. Winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the beloved show features a wonderful score written by Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, including the Broadway smash hit, “Tomorrow”. With a perfect combination of street-smarts and optimism, Annie warms the hearts of the audience as we witness her rise from next to nothing in New York City. She is determined to find her parents, who left her at the orphanage years ago. Though things don’t quite work out the way she has planned, she does manage to thwart the plans of the evil Miss Hannigan and find a new family with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his secretary Grace Farrell, and her lovable mutt, Sandy.

Director’s Note When seeking a show for this year, Annie was one of several that was considered to showcase our incredibly talented cast. It’s funny that my first opportunity to step into the role of director was for the same show that gave me the “bug” for theater so many years ago. I remember being in first grade and walking down the street to the high school to watch Annie, and I was awed at the red-headed orphan who could never give up hope. As we continue to push through yet another year of what seems like countless struggles, I find myself seeing that the story of Annie is not so different than what we’re experiencing in this current time in our world, and that the message of Annie can still ring as loud and as true as when the comic was written in 1924, and the musical debuted in 1977. It’s been a pleasure taking part in the legacy that is Freedom High School theater, working with the amazing and talented young men and women who will take the stage for you this evening. Getting a chance to work with the awesome young men and women of Freedom High School and watch them grow both artistically, personally and as a cast has truly been a gift. There is a sense of community in Freedom Drama, and each person who participates knows that they are part of something bigger than themselves. This community does not live only within the cast but within the entire community itself. There have been countless hours given by other staff members across the district as they helped with painting, costumes, music rehearsals, programs, coaching morale talks, and so much more, to make this show feel like a true high school musical over which everyone can take ownership. With this in mind, I would be amiss to acknowledge the greater community at large - the families of the students who have drove students to rehearsals for months, and the waiting for them at the end of long practices, the parents who have volunteered their time to organize meals, costumes and other important aspects of the show, the school board for their support and help with lighting and sound, and of course you who are here supporting us and theater tonight. While we perform this show on stage, the show truly would not go on without you. As a thank you for your support, my hope is that we can inspire you, and give you two hours without the stresses of the and see that the sun will come out tomorrow. We hope you enjoy the show!

Norina Baker

Norina Baker, daughter ofGermaine and Mark Baker of Conway. Norina is a proud member of the National Honors Society, Volleyball team, National Technical Honors Society, HOSA, Forensic Club, Photography Club, Drama Club, GIG Club, and the Youth Ambassadors Program. “One of my favorite memories in high school is meeting and making new friends in my Votech class at the CTC and having the honor of being taught by some of the best teachers including Miss Cairns and Mrs. Izz who have been so supportive of me these past two years. Thank you to my parents who have been there for me since the first day of kindergarten. An additional extension of gratitude to my Aunt Bridget who if not for her I wouldn’t be where I am today. I would give to future drama club students is to take a leap and go for it. I’ve always wanted to be in a musical and it wasn’t until my senior year I was brave enough to try out. Everyone is so supportive and we all treat each other kindly no matter what part we get.” Norina plans to attend Robert Morris University to major in Nursing and further her education with a masters as a Psych Nurse practitioner.

Faith Tooch Faith Natalia Tooch, daugher of Debbie and Mark Tooch of New Sewickley Township. Faith is an active member of the Drama Club, Band, and Golf team. “Thank you to my whole family.” Faith plans to attend CalU after graduation to major in Mechatronics.

I would like to thank my parents for everything they have done for me throughout my high school experience. I would also like to thank Ms. Giammaria and Ms. Evans for helping me come out of my shell even more this year. I finally would like to thank all of my friends and family for being their and supporting me for this time in my life. Some advice I would give for future students in drama club is to not be afraid. This is a very welcoming family and we all support each other. Even though this is my first musical I feel like I’ve always been a part of this family.” Maddie plans to attend Slippery Rock University to major in elementary education.

Hailee Mahoney

Hailee Mahoney is the daughter of Jamie and Kevin Mahoney. Hailee is an active member in the Drama Club. “My Favorite memory from highschool is winning the lip sync battle. Some of Madison’s favorite memories from high school include being in the haunted high school, bus rides to volleyball games, decorating lockers, making so many new friends, all the laughs, class parties, and helping me to grow and shape who I am. Thank you to my parents for helping me become the best woman I could be today, for always being there for me, and for making me so happy. I don’t know what I would do without them, or my friends. I appreciate my friends so much for always being there for me, and for always bringing a good time around. Nothing my friends and family do for me ever goes unnoticed. Gracie Shane

Elizabeth Grace Shane, daughter of Dawn and Tom Shane of New Sewickley Township. Gracie is an active member in the Pep Club, Drama Club, Winter Cheer, and the National Honors Society. “Some of my best memories include all the laughs - especially in Gia’s class - and all of the backstage and onstage shenanigans during musical practices throughout the years. Also, how could I forget about all the extremely energetic basketball games. I want to thank my parents for always supporting me in everything that I do including cheer (I know that one was a shocker). I want to thank my Aunt Janice for always being there when I needed someone to talk to or rant to. I want to thank my grandparents for loving me always. I want to thank my Uncle Danny for getting me into musicals because I wouldn’t be on this stage without my love for shows. I want to thank my sister Jordan for being there through everything. And lastly I want to thank my musical friends for all the great memories, laughs, fun games, long lasting friendships, and for always pushing me to do my best and rise above to be better than my best. My advice for future student would be to learn your lines early on into the show. Don’t be afraid to talk to people and make friends. Ask questions, whether you ask the director or an older member, ask as many questions as you need. Most importantly, have fun and savor every moment because it goes by far too fast.” In the future Gracie plans to attend Penn State University and study criminal justice. Gracie will then go to the police academy to become a police officer
