CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY AT FALMOUTH FLEXIBLE

Welcome to Landings 2018 For a second year, Falmouth University provides the virtual base for exhibitions to travel and be seen across the world. Each unique exhibition ‘packet’ contains images and installations created by students and staff of the Falmouth Flexible MA Photography course. This showcase shows single images from each exhibition ‘packet’. They are accompanied by the photographers’ own words describing the focus of their work and presented according to their conceptual alignment with one of three themes.

Rachel Akerman, Packet Ship, 2016

Just as the postal ships of old carried messages, ‘packets’, around the world, Landings 2018 does similar in pictorial form. While past practices led to discovery and trade todays methods focus on advancement, sharing, inspiration and equally, discovery. In both, diversity is a strength, but in creative endeavours stories, concepts and informed practices emerge and form, develop, mature, and explain. Falmouth University links such creatives, a world encompassing diversity, with a common interest — photography.

Expressions of Consequence: Documenting, describing or raising awareness of a subject linking or suggesting past, present or anticipated changes or outcomes. Narrating Identity: Exploration, singular or in combination, of self, of place or of others, often involving some transitional element such as time. Elements of Abstraction: Offering an alternative view or perspective, an exploration of perceived reality which can, but not exclusively, include manipulation of process and printing and elements of experimentation. It is with great pleasure that we present this work to you. Andrew Barrow, Sarah Newton, Anthony Prothero Exhibition Designers August 2018 WWW.LANDINGS.SPACE
