What I pursue is not the deep impact when facing the monuments, but the resonance and recollection people have as they hear the rhythm of the poetry or see the moving architecture space, which is the tenderness of strength. The architecture in my view is like a motivation which, without being noticed, inspires one’s inner sensation as we study and feel it in a tender way.

PAPER BOOK HOUSE

Light building for Settlement Area in Fushun, COMPETITION Fushun, Liaoning, China In collaboration with SUN Siyu, ZHANG Lene Instructor: WANG gang Summer 2015 Fushun was famous for its coal mining industry. However, after the abandonment of numerous mines, this place has become a desert due to the soil settlement. So I designed a light building, using the local recyeled paper, to resist the adverse soil conditions.

RESPIRABLE STUDIO

Eco-friendly studio in Wuhan University, ACADEMIC Wuhan, Hubei, China Individual work Instructor: HUANG Lingjiang Fall 2013 The proposal is located in Wuhan University, serving botany researchers.

In consideration of the weather in Wuhan(burning hot in summer and severe cold in winter), I attempt to create well ventilated space with easy access to indoor plants garden. Through inserting glass cube〠air chimney and double layer roof, I enable this building to cool itself in summer and preserve heat in winter without consuming extra energy.

MIRAGE

Historical Museum for Qiandao Lake, COMPETITION Chunan county, Zhejiang, China Individual work Instructor: ZHENG Jing Summer 2013 Due to the economic development, Chun’an county has been demolished and changed into Qiandao hydroelectric station. Now the relics of Chun’an county has been covered by the lake.

Thousands villagers lost their hometown and could never see it again and this sad story inspired me and I want to reproduce the images of the relics underwater. This proposal is my attempt to create continuous space changing with light, shadow, water reflection and images of mirage.

SPIRAL SPACE Teaching Building for Department of engineering, ACADEMIC Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China Individual work Instructor: CHENG Shidan Spring 2015 With the increasing students population, the department of engineering in HUST is considering a new education facility that serves 4 differents majors, namely electronic engineering, architecture design, hydropower engineering and civil engineering.

The proposal is a highrise architecture, a mixture of space for study and communication between different disciplines. Boxes of similar sizes containing office and workshop for respective disciplines, while unique in-between spaces are inserted spirally, coordinating to these big volumns.

THREE ROUTE THREE FIlM

Revival of old districts in Wuhan, ACADEMIC Tanhualin, Wuhan, China In collaboration with SUN Siyu, ZHANG Lene, WANG Chunyu Instructor: CHENG Shidan Summer 2015 When dealing with the project of reviving Tanhualin old disrict, I did a series of research and field investigation. Meanwhile, I learned that the enviromental quality of the district could not be rised only by increasing high-rise residential housing. I proposed to select some nodes from the old district for public space design, similar to�Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion therapy�

Inspiration From A Film

Film“in the heat of the sun�is one of my favorite films. It used a tactic of montage, a method to illustrate an association of ideas, to present his understanding of CHILDHOOD MEMORIES&EMOTIONS. The director Wen JIANG uses a mixture of different scenes and items as metaphors to refer to those fragment of memories.

He arranges a series of metaphors and hints that are continuous but in disorder. To reveal the uncertainty of memories, he uses four metaphors(1.PARENTS; 2.FRIENDS; 3.BEIPEI YU-the girl adoring the hero; 4.MILAN-the girl adored by the hero(corresponding 4 routes)) .

Site Selection TANHUALIN is located in Wuhan, China. Also it is now being transformed into shopping centre and tourist attractions, it has still conserved traditional way of life and street patterns.

People can experience the whole area through 4 main routes distinguished by four themes. I use different metaphors to express these themes.

TOURISTS&RESIDENTS This route is mainly aimed to introduce the culture and history of Tanhualin.

TOURISTS&RESIDENTS This route is design for people to have some outdoor activities.

TOURISTS&IMMIGRATORS This route is design for shoppers to buy some local handicraft and also provide job opportunities for immigrators.

TOURISTS&RESIDENTS This route can provide lots art&cultural exhibitions to tourists as well as art students in local school.
