With the explosion of social networks, web users find themselves with superpowers, and their strength sometimes overpowers them. The power of words and clicks are heralding a new form of behaviour, both for individuals and brands.

Once upon a time, but not very long ago, the average form of expression for citizen activists online was the blog, which imposed a regular rhythm of publishing accompanied by a construction of narrative. Today, and tomorrow further still, social networks, with Twitter and Facebook at their head, have monopolized the web-user’s attention and opened a new window for dialogue.

These tools are far easier to use, and all the more powerful. “We are witnessing an online upheaval,” says Sandrine Plasseraud, managing director France at conversational agency We Are Social, which specializes in social media strategy for brands. “The influential blog has given way little by little to a new category of ‘online influencers’, whose power of prescription is such that they are becoming unavoidable for brands.” These new community leaders, who have on average 50,000 followers on YouTube or Twitter, have quickly understood that they could put the fear into advertisers by generating negative e-reputation. One of the first cases goes back to 2004. An anonymous web user posted a video on YouTube in which he showed how to break open a Kryptonite bicycle lock in seconds with just a pen. These few seconds were widely re-diffused on social media and cost the brand more than $10 million. This was the premise of a form of omnipotence that made any number of brand representatives tremble, concerned about how to preserve themselves in the face of such a flood of comments, tweets and the like that could potentially be the downfall of many a major group. This was an upheaval that would bring the communications world into a new era.

Avec l’explosion du Web social, les internautes se retrouvent doués d’une force quasi surhumaine. Une force qui les submerge parfois. Le pouvoir des mots et du clic amènent une nouvelle forme de comportement autant pour les individus que pour les marques.

Il était une fois, une époque au cours de laquelle le moyen d’expression du citoyen engagé passait surtout par le blog, ce qui imposait un rythme régulier d’écriture accompagné d’une construction narrative. Aujourd’hui et encore plus demain, les réseaux sociaux, Twitter et Facebook en tête, ont monopolisé l’attention de l’internaute et ouvert une nouvelle fenêtre de dialogue. Un outil bien plus facile à maîtriser et encore plus puissant. « Nous assistons à un bouleversement sur le net. Le blog influant fait peu à peu place à une nouvelle catégorie d’internautes « influenceurs », dont le degré de prescription est tel qu’il devient incontournable pour les marques », confie Sandrine Plasseraud, la directrice générale France de l’agence conversationnelle We are Social, spécialisée en veille et stratégie du web social pour les marques. Ces nouveaux leaders de communauté qui regroupent en moyenne 50 000 personnes sur You Tube ou Twitter, ont vite compris qu’ils pouvaient faire peur aux annonceurs en générant une mauvaise e-réputation.

L’un des premiers cas d’école remonte à 2004. Un inconnu poste une vidéo sur Youtube dans laquelle il montre comment ouvrir un cadenas de vélo de la marque Kryptonite en deux temps trois mouvements avec un stylo. Quelques secondes très largement relayées sur les médias sociaux qui coûteront plus de 10 millions de dollars à la société incriminée. Les prémices d’une forme de toute puissance qui fait trembler les professionnels soucieux de se préserver face à ce déferlement de commentaires, tweets et autres prises de paroles qui peuvent nuire à n’importe quels grands groupes. Un bouleversement qui fait alors rentrer le monde de la communication dans une nouvelle ère.

Мощь простого слова и щелчка мыши сегодня такова, что меняются все неписаные законы Интернета: и для отдельного человека, и для компаний. Когда-то давным-давно свою гражданскую позицию особо активные граждане выражали в блогах. Блог подразумевает, что в нем пишут регулярно и выстраивают некий нарратив. Сегодня, а тем более завтра, все внимание пользователей направлено на социальные сети, прежде всего, Twitter и Facebook. Диалог ведется здесь. Этот инструмент куда проще в использовании, а значит, мощнее.

— В Интернете сейчас происходят серьезные сдвиги. The communications Big Bang The internet today has carved its place, not just as a vector for sales, but for influence. It is an omnipresent channel for all types of consumption. It accompanies its user wherever he or she goes. 82% of web-users worldwide claim to use digital platforms for everyday tasks, according to the Wave 8 global study by advertising network UM Mediabrands. “Unlike other media, blogs and social networks necessitate independence and justice in the use of freedom of expression,” says Thomas Jamet, CEO France of IPG MediaBrands, which specializes in brand placement in the media. “The early communication steps of many brands like Coca-Cola, Nike or Red Bull were within communities of sportspeople or bloggers. It was not about doing media relations online, but about creating a direct dialogue with customers,” he continues. “Still today, this is irreplaceable, and its value is priceless. But we can also observe excesses, as brand advertising is omnipresent, often transforming [online platforms] into a terrain for brand expression, or even partner sites.”

In this context, an e-reputation well mastered becomes an inescapable element in ensuring the success and longevity of a brand. According to UM Mediabrands, 40% of consumers who have internet access are willing to partake of entertainment provided by brands. This important statistic obliges communications professionals to work on their brand’s image in order to consolidate its reputation. We are currently in an economy of attention in which time is the most precious way of recruiting a consumer and gaining his or her loyalty. Because henceforth, the role of social media for brands is no longer necessarily to sell a product, but to sell experience and emotion. What consumers find on the internet informs their decisions, and their choice is no longer made solely based on criteria of quality and price: it is now the company, via its values and acts, which is up for judgement. And what could be better than a celebrity to embody the values that touch a target online?

Il accompagne le mobinaute au quotidien. 82% des Internautes dans le monde déclarent avoir recours au numérique pour toutes leurs taches quotidiennes selon l’étude mondiale Wave 8 du réseau publicitaire UM Mediabrands. « À l’instar des autres médias, les blogs comme les réseaux sociaux ont besoin d’indépendance et de justesse dans l’utilisation de leur liberté d’expression. Les premiers pas en communication de beaucoup de marques comme Coca-Cola, Nike ou Red Bull ont été sur le terrain des communautés de joueurs et des blogueurs. Il ne s’agissait pas de faire des Relations Presse sur le web, mais d’ouvrir le dialogue avec nos propres clients. Encore aujourd’hui, c’est irremplaçable, et ça n’a pas de prix. Mais on peut aussi y observer des dérives en raison de l’omniprésence de la publicité des marques, qui les transforment souvent en leur propre terrain d’expression, voire en site d’affiliation », explique Thomas Jamet le CEO France du groupe IPG MediaBrands spécialisé dans le placement des marques dans les médias. Dans ce contexte, une e-réputation maîtrisée devient alors un élément incontournable pour assurer le succès et la pérennité d’une marque. Toujours selon UM Mediabrands, 40 % des consommateurs qui ont un accès internet sont prêts à consommer du divertissement offert par les marques. Une donnée important qui oblige les professionnels de la communication à travailler l’image de marque pour consolider sa réputation. Nous sommes actuellement dans une économie de l’attention ou le temps est le bien le plus précieux pour convaincre, voire pour fidéliser un client. Car désormais le rôle du Web Social pour les marques est de ne plus forcément vendre un produit, mais une expérience doublée d’une émotion. Ce que les internautes trouvent sur Internet conditionne énormément leur décision, le choix pour le consommateur ne se résume plus seulement à un arbitrage sur les prix et la qualité : c’est désormais l’entreprise, au travers de ses valeurs et de ses actes, qui est jugée. Et quoi de mieux qu’une star pour incarner des valeurs en touchant sa cible sur le Web?

The birth of a new type of web user Celebrities on social media carry in their wake millions of fans or followers. The Twitter accounts of Katy Perry, with 77 million followers, Justin Bieber, with 69 million and Taylor Swift, with 65 million, for example, are in the firing line of brands who see in them global communities and considerable vectors for growth, communication and conversation. But they are not alone. The fear of bad e-reputation has given rise to a new type of web-user, the anonymous stars of social media. “Look what people do on Facebook today. They stay in touch with their friends and family, but they also build themselves an image, an identity, which in a way is their own brand,” explains Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder.

Such sudden fame can also mean big money. “Certain influencers are conscious of the power they wield and play on it, asking for payment or gifts from brands in exchange for a positive comment. On the pretext that their opinion has become important, we see ourselves having to negotiate for a post that is supposed to be independent and unbiased,” highlights Arnaud Gazet, founder of Zagett, a digital communication and creative agency. The result is that by forever wanting to justify their actions and protect their reputation, brands have indirectly perverted bloggers and community leaders by showering them with too many freebies and perks.

Mais elles ne sont pas les seules.

Car cette peur panique de la mauvaise e-réputation a fait naître une nouvelle espèce d’internautes : les anonymes célèbres du Web social. « Regardez ce que les gens font sur Facebook aujourd’hui. Ils gardent le contact avec leurs amis et leur famille, mais ils se construisent aussi une image, une identité, qui dans un sens est leur propre marque », explique Mark Zuckerberg, fondateur de Facebook. Une soudaine notoriété qui peut rapporter gros. « Certains de ces influenceurs sont conscients de leur pouvoir et en jouent énormément en demandant des rémunérations ou des cadeaux aux marques en échange d’un bon commentaire. Sous prétexte que leur avis est devenu important, on se retrouve à devoir négocier pour un post censé être publié de manière impartiale et indépendante... », comme le précise Arnaud Gazet, fondateur de l’agence de communication et création numérique Zagett. Résultat : à toujours vouloir légitimer leurs actions et protéger leur réputation, les marques ont indirectement perverti les blogueurs et les leaders de communautés en les chérissant un peu trop en soirées et cadeaux divers.

That is what beautiful young Australian Instagram sensation Essena O’Neil tried to denounce. She quit the social media world at the beginning of November by shutting her account, followed by more than half a million fans, as well as her YouTube, Tumblr and Snapchat channels. She explained the infernal spiral involved in inventing the perfect life involved in becoming such an “influencer”.

She notably criticizes brands that exploit the popularity of social media. It is a cry from the heart – or at least seems to be – which cost the young woman her unrivalled notoriety. The good news is that thanks to this criticism of her self-promotion, she was able to promote her new website, which will denounce – among other things – the online star system. Are you following? In other words, there’s nothing like criticizing social media on social media as a tool for building a reputation…

Bonne nouvelle : grâce à cette critique de son auto-promotion, la jeune fille a pu faire la promotion de son nouveau site internet qui dénoncera, entre autre, le star système du Web. Vous suivez? Comme quoi, rien de tel qu’une critique des réseaux sociaux sur un réseau social pour se faire connaitre…

The end of the year can be a stressful time, yet for festive evenings, we all dream of a perfect complexion and radiant, relaxed features. Thankfully, there are some powerful formulae out there ready to come to the rescue of tired skin, revealing its radiance.

Flash skincare products are often formulated to provide a filmogenic, tensing effect on the surface of the skin. But hybrid products with a gentler, immediate effect also exist. Makeup for the party season doesn’t have to mean you look like a disco ball, but one thing you can do is shine bright thanks to limited editions that twinkle like a thousand lights to make us feel beautiful.

From the State of Gold collection, Dior’s Diorific pressed powder offers itself up in an uber-chic golden compact. The ultra-fine powder with micro-pearls haloes the face with a sophisticated iridescent glow. For the eyes, Serge Lutens’ La Messe des Ors palette plays a two-handed game: its lacquered case is just as sober as its design, but inside is a palette of bronze shades that range from coral and sandy white to a nocturnal anthracite.

To a different house, a different style: here we are offered a palette for a Snow Queen, with its case a constellation of immaculate glitter that is hypnotizing; Givenchy’s Palette Glacée is a little girl’s dream, but hides distinguished eyeshadows in shades of chocolate and glace chestnut – delicious!

A mirror effect for the eyes can be otherwise achieved with new-generation eyeshadows with shimmering, melting textures to be applied with the fingers, like Dolce & Gabbana’s Gold Dust Mono Eyeshadow, a long-wearing cream shadow that can be infinitely blended. It gives a bright metallic effect like that of a light veil of silk worn on the eyelids. A similar gesture is used for Lancôme’s Ombre Hypnôse Dazzling with bounce technology, soft as a pillow under the fingertip. This season we love the Doré and Cuivre shades for a vibrant, festive smoky eye.

Lipstick is also part of the golden harmony in this festive duet. Yves Saint Laurent’s Rouge Pur Couture N°01, in its collector edition decked with a kiss and whose stick itself is sculpted with dozens of joyful lips, is one example.

And on the nails, Lamé Top Coat from Chanel’s Rouge Noir collection. Worn alone, it spices up the nails with a lamé touch, while applied over another polish, it heightens any shade with its golden shimmer.

Qui dit soir de fêtes ne dit pas forcément maquillage boule à facettes ! Mais on peut en revanche faire le plein d’éclat avec des éditions spéciales qui brillent de mille feux et savent nous mettre en beauté.

Issue de la collection State of Gold, la poudre compacte Diorific de Dior s’offre dans un poudrier doré chicissime. Ultra fine, ses micro nacres nimbent le visage d’un glow sophistiqué et iridescent. Pour le regard, la Palette la Messe de Ors de Serge Lutens donne le ton d’un double jeu : son étui laqué est aussi sobre que son design. A l’intérieur : un camaïeu d’ombres mordorées tirant sur le corail ou le sable blanc sont assorties à un anthracite nocturne.

Autre maison, autre style : on nous offre ici une palette de Reine des Neiges, à l’écrin constellé de paillettes immaculées, hypnotisantes. La Palette Glacée de Givenchy est un rêve de petite fille mais renferme des ombres distinguées autour de teintes chocolat et marron glacé. Un délice.

L’effet miroitant sur les yeux est sinon obtenu avec les fards nouvelle génération : aux textures scintillantes fondantes à appliquer au doigt, comme le Mono Eyeshadow Gold Dust de Dolce et Gabbana. Un fard crème longue tenue qui se patine à l’envie. Au final, un effet métallisé rehaussé de reflets comme ceux d’une soie légère portée sur les paupières. Un geste adopté avec les Ombre Hypnoses Dazzle de Lancôme, à technologie effet rebond : elles sont moelleuses comme un oreiller sous la pulpe du doigt. Cette saison on craque pour les teintes Doré ou Cuivre pour un smoky de fête vibrant.

Le rouge s’invite dans cette harmonie dorée pour former un duo festif. On retrouve sur les lèvres le Rouge pur Couture n° 01 d’Yves Saint Laurent dans son fourreau collector orné d’une d’un baiser et dont le bâton de rouge est sculpté d’autant de lèvres joyeuses. Sur les ongles se porte le Top Coat Lamé de la collection Rouge Noir de Chanel. Seul, il pimente le style d’une touche lamée.

Associé à un autre vernis, il le rehausse toutes les teintes de ses éclats d’or.

The house of Armani, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, is giving the perfumery industry a lesson in luxury with a prestigious limited edition the likes of which are few and far between in our day and age, a brilliant new bottle crafted from blown Murano glass for its Sì fragrance.

There is no need to have visited the Salviati workshops in Murano to know of their reputation, but a visit there makes you realise the extent of their expertise. That is what the house of Armani invited So Chic to do, to share in the secrets of the fabrication of the most incredible of bottles, made in only 40 numbered versions, in tribute to the 40th anniversary of the birth of the Armani label. To give life to the dream, the master-glassmakers took their inspiration from the original bottle’s shape and imagined a teardrop of pale pink glass suspended in a prism of crystal.

More than a year of technical and design research was needed, as well as many trials, to find the right shade – we saw the “rough drafts”, in some of which the difference in colour was almost imperceptible. In the end, it was a gradated coral pink achieved through Sbruffo, an ancestral Venetian technique, that was chosen to imbue the bottle via a hybrid process that is part artisanal, part mechanized: within a metal mold, the glass that will hold the fragrance is blown by hand. Its creation is like a fascinating ballet in which each piece is unique. Its gilding is the fruit of two layers of liquid gold. It is thus that we understand that a single bottle necessitates the work of 10 artisans, and can take more than five days to complete.

Sì Eau de Parfum Intense, a refined, sensual chypré elixir that is a tribute to modern femininity, finds in this coffret the quintessence of its olfactory expression, brought to the paroxysm of its identity. Presented like a jewel in a precious black and nude box, it is accompanied by two bottles to be filled. In a timeless ritual, the cap is removed in order to apply the glass rod to the skin, liberating a scent that is as bewitching as the burning atmosphere in the workshops. With its Murano edition, Sì meets the traditions of the great Italian craftsmen.

La maison Armani qui fête cette année ses 40 ans, donne à l’industrie de la parfumerie une leçon de luxe avec une édition limitée prestigieuse comme on en voit et fait de moins en moins. Nouvel habit de lumière en verre soufflé de Murano pour la fragrance Sì.

Pas besoin d’avoir visité les ateliers Salviati à Murano pour connaitre leur réputation, mais se rendre sur place donne toute sa dimension à leur savoirfaire. C’est ce qu’a fait la maison Armani en conviant So Chic dans le secret de fabrication du plus incroyable des flacons, réalisé en 40 exemplaires numérotés, en hommage à 40 ans de créations Armani. Pour donner vie au rêve, les maîtresverriers se sont inspirés de sa forme initiale et ont imaginé une larme de verre rose pâle suspendue à un prisme de cristal. Il aura fallu plus d’un an de recherches techniques et esthétiques et de nombreux essais pour trouver la juste teinte, dont nous avons vu les « brouillons », parfois à la nuance près.

Au final, un dégradé rose orangé, fruit du Sbruffo, une technique vénitienne ancestrale, nimbe le flacon, réalisé par un procédé hybride, à la fois artisanal et mécanique : au sein d’un moule en métal, le verre qui contiendra le parfum est, lui, soufflé à la main. Une création comme un ballet fascinant, unique pour chaque pièce dont la dorure est le fruit de deux couches d’or liquide. On comprend alors pourquoi une seule pièce requiert le travail de dix personnes, et peut durer plus de cinq jours. Sì Eau de Parfum Intense, un élixir chypré raffiné et sensuel hommage à la féminité contemporaine, trouve avec ce coffret, la quintessence de son expression olfactive, portée au paroxysme de son identité. Présenté tel un joyau lové dans un coffret noir et chair précieux, l’œuvre s’accompagne de deux flacons qui serviront à la remplir. Dans un rituel intemporel, on ôte le bouchon et on effleure la peau avec la tige de verre qui libère un sillage aussi enivrant que l’atmosphère brulante des ateliers. Sì, édition Murano, quand la haute parfumerie rencontre la grande tradition italienne de l’artisanat d’art.

Престижный аромат в драгоценном сосуде из муранского стекла — урок изысканности всей индустрии парфюмерии. Слава о мастерских Salviati идет далеко за пределами Мурано. Но в полной мере оценить искусство этих художников можно только на месте. Поэтому дом Armani пригласил So Chic проникнуть в секреты мастерства — посмотреть своими глазами, как здесь изготавливают сорок изумительных флаконов, по одному на каждый год жизни Armani. Как воплотить в жизнь хрупкую мечту? Отталкиваясь от исходного флакона, мастера создали прозрачную каплю из розового стекла, прикрепленную к хрустальной призме. На то, чтобы подобрать нужный оттенок, потребовалось больше года технических и эстетических изысканий и экспериментов. Мы видели «черновые» варианты — иногда они едва отличаются нюансом! Окончательный выбор — размытый золотисто-розовый цвет, полученный благодаря старинной венецианской технике «sbruffo». Флакон выполнен наполовину вручную, наполовину механическим путем: стекло выдувается мастером, но в металлической форме. Процесс изготовления завораживает, как сложный балет, неповторимый для каждого экземпляра. Позолота наносится в два тонких слоя жидким золотом. Понятно, почему над одним флаконом работает десять человек, и иногда больше пяти дней.

«Sì Eau de Parfum Intense» — утонченный, но насыщенный и чувственный цитрусовый букет, воплощение современной женственности. В этом издании его индивидуальность находит выражение во всей полноте. Изящный светлый, с черными деталями, футляр заключает в себе два флакона. Извечным женским движением снимается пробка, со стеклянного лепестка слетает опьяняющий аромат. Он кружит голову, как ощущение сопричастности тайне в муранской мастерской. «Sì Edition Murano» — встреча великой парфюмерии и великой традиции искусства.

A scent of seduction dances gaily around the year-end festivities. It is an exquisite delicacy made up of sweetness and fruits or flowery concoctions, two options that are rivals in their femininity.

We are witnessing an explosion of foody feminine compositions, with which certain brands have made their name, and others their singularity. Such scents draw us in with reminiscences of the charm of childhood, targeting the temptress in each of us.

The latest forbidden fruit in the Lolita Lempicka family, Sweet wears its name well.

Taste it like a piece of candy for consenting adults only, like a toffee apple that cracks as you bite into it. “It’s the taste of lips that bite into a cherry dipped in dark chocolate,” explains Anne Flippo, the nose behind the fragrance. Then comes cocoa absolute, which flirts with angelica and makes the heart beat. Another emblematic scent has been revisited with the colour of love, the inimitable Angel

by Thierry Mugler’s new version, Passion. Its star-shaped bottle is transformed from glacial blue to bright red, but the juice is faithful to its iconic sweet nature and its chocolate note. It is a bewitching, vanilla-drenched opus with a strong dose of patchouli and accents of red berries like a gentle caress. These are fragrances that are good enough to eat! Even more nostalgic with its scent of childhood, we delight ourselves with Viktor & Rolf’s Bonbon, a delicacy with caramel overtones that escapes from the bow-shaped pink bottle, sweetening the skin with a milky peach veil. The ultimate girly scent, its fruity heart is based on a recipe combining sensual woods and amber shaken together like a cocktail.

A similarly sweet statement is L’Artisan Parfumeur’s latest fragrance. Noir Exquis takes us on a romantic date to a pastry shop. Its contrasted composition

Il se déguste comme une friandise pour adultes consentants, façon pomme d’amour qui craque sous la dent : « C’est le goût des lèvres qui croquent une cerise trempée dans le chocolat noir » explique Anne Flipo, parfumeur et créatrice. Ensuite, l’absolu de cacao flirte avec l’angélique et fait palpiter de plaisir ce cœur rougeoyant. Autre forme emblématique revisité à la couleur de l’amour, l’inimitable Angel de Thierry Mugler version Passion. L’étoile passe du bleu glacier au rouge flamboyant, mais fidèle à son empreinte sucrée emblématique et sa note de chocolat. Un opus envoutant et vanillé, surdosé en patchouli aux accents de fruits rouges, comme une caresse suave. Des parfums-gouter que l’on mange du nez. Carrément régressif, peut-être, mais on se délecte de Bonbon de Viktor and Rolf. Un délice aux effluves de caramel s’échappe du flacon rose en forme de nœud, et sucrent la peau d’un voile lacté à la pêche. Girly à souhait, son cœur fruité repose sur une recette de bois sensuels et d’ambre, travaillés façon cocktail.

«Bonbon» от Viktor and Rolf — очень уютный, может, даже чуть слишком «девчачий», но как устоять перед этим розовым флаконом в форме банта и изумительным карамельным ароматом, который оставляет на коже молочную поволоку с легким персиковым душком? Глубины и устойчивости этому фруктовому букету придает чувственный коктейль древесных нот и амбры. Новая композиция от Artisan Parfumeur «Noir Exquis» тоже не скупится на сладкие акценты. Представьте себе свидание в кондитерской. В этом контрастном букете кофейную ноту подчеркивают кленовый сироп и засахаренный каштан, а роскошный флердоранж опирается на основу из макассара. highlights a coffee note mixed with maple syrup and glace chestnut and orange blossom that offers itself up on a bed of Macassar.

Beyond this infantile image are hidden many a treasure, as proved by Flagrant Délice from By Terry, an ode to elegant gluttony infused with bitter almond milk and ripe fig. It is a juice with green and milky accents heightened by berries like blackcurrant, which melts into a base of tonka bean and white musk to create a captivating, magnetic scent. But fragrant delicacies are not reserved to foody notes, they can also be found in an explosion of slightly tart or powdery floral accords that escape as if from a kaleidoscope of flowers. As its starting point, Miss Dior took a floral composition twisted with an original zest for its launch, in which rose notes were sweetened with an accord composed of strawberry leaves, wild strawberry sorbet and caramel popcorn. These facets have since been toned down, but the Eau de Parfum still has the power to concentrate a concoction of rose petals with something less sweet but just as glamourous by way of a vanilla heart. Maison Margiela’s Replica line takes a vintage bent with Lipstick On, a cosmetic scent evoking a woman preparing to go out, in front of her dressing table. A rice powder accord encapsulates a bouquet of iris and galbanum, rounded out by tender notes of vanilla and tonka bean. The famous La Vie est Belle, whose extrait de parfum is the quintessence of its formula, adds a mouthful of pear to give a fruity heart to its bouquet of iris, rose and jasmine. In such floral compositions for women, their sweet touch could be the explanation for their growing success: out with motionless flowers, in with light and airy bouquets and concentrations of fresh blooms. Diptyque’s Essences Insensées spring immediately to mind, with their annual vintages that join the brand’s Bazar du 34 collection, also revisited each year. The origin of this collector fragrance is a tradition unique to master perfumers, who gathered flowers that had not been sold each season to make them into a “mille fleurs” scent. This season, a very particular jasmine is the flower of honour. Grown in Grasse and harvested late, it has an almost candied bouquet that is unique. Creed’s Fleurissimo is another example, worn by Grace Kelly and Kate Middleton, making it the scent of first ladies if ever there was one. Its elegant composition is a whirlwind of rose, tuberose and Florentine iris livened up with violet leaves, a sincere, optimistic scent.

Une composition florale twistée d’un zest original, c’est le départ qu’à pris Miss Dior lors de son lancement où la rose était sucrée d’un accord feuilles de fraisier, sorbet fraise des bois et pop corn caramélisé. Mais l’Eau de Parfum possède encore le pouvoir de concentrer une brassée de pétales de roses en un pschitt moins sucré mais toujours glamour avec un fond vanillé. Men’s fragrances are playing with classic notes to find new accords, unexpected notes that take us on a journey, fusing together and surprising us with their charm.

Certain scents for men are capable of performing magic tricks, exploding like a fountain as they reveal their notes, a tactic expertly orchestrated in niche perfumery. Acqua di Parma’s Colonia Club opens with typical citrus notes that erupt with a mint-scented light. Associated with neroli and coloured with lavender and geranium, they crunch as they quiver. But it is not just colognes that can operate such olfactory firework displays. White Spirit, the latest opus from Juliette Has a Gun, offers itself luxury that has never been seen – or smelt – before. It opens almost disconcertingly with a teeth-grinding, chemical note evocative of its name, and is reinforced by venomous notes of jasmine, tuberose and ambroxan in an olfactory shock. In the Addictive State of Mind line, By Kilian’s narcotic Smoke for the Soul is also resolutely subversive with its cannabis accord. The first, bitter impression can make the head spin, but we are already addicted to this fragrance that renews its vows with its etymology: per fumare. Another rebellious child is Olfactive Studio’s Selfie, an introspective juice like a voyage of discovery in one’s own inner forest of the imagination. There can be found angelica, ginger, star anise and an accord of maple syrup, cinnamon, lily and incense. Between the trees, a styrax suede accord heightens oak moss and labdanum. James Heeley’s Phoenicia, for its part, navigates towards an ancient biblical land between Cyprus and Carthage. It is an ode to a fertile crescent whose warm heart is built around a rich, syrupy date accompanied by exotic essences including sandalwood, oud, silver birch and Javanese vetiver. And we end on an aquatic note, with Blasted Heath from Penhaligon’s. On this scented coast, salty green seaweed mingles with sage, from which notes of tobacco and resinous whisky suddenly escape, contracting with the earthy elegance of vetiver.

La parfumerie masculine joue avec les notes classiques pour trouver de nouveaux accords. Ces notes inattendues nous emmènent en voyages, fusent et nous charment par surprise.

Les eaux de toilette pour messieurs savent parfois opérer des tours de magie et explosent au premier jet de leurs notes savamment orchestrées par la parfumerie de niche. Colonia Club d’Aqua di Parma s’ouvre sur des agrumes caractéristiques, qui éclatent dans un éclair mentholé. Associé au néroli et coloré de lavande et géranium, ils crissent en ondulant. Mais pas besoin d’être une Cologne pour ces feux d’artifices olfactifs. White Spirit, dernier opus de l’éclectique Juliette Has a Gun, se paie le luxe du jamais vu, jamais senti. Le départ, presque incommodant est grinçant et chimique à l’image de son nom, est renforcé par des notes vénéneuses de jasmin, tubéreuses et ambroxan. Un choc. Dans la série Addictive State of Mind, je demande le narcotique Smoke for the Soul de Kilian, lui aussi résolument subversif avec son accord au cannabis. La première bouffée, amère, peut faire tourner la tête peut, mais l’on est déjà accro à ce parfum qui renoue avec son étymologie : « per fumare ». Autre insoumis : Selfie d’ Olfactive Studio est un jus introspectif comme une marche initiatique dans sa forêt imaginaire intérieure. On y croise de l’angélique, du gingembre et de la badiane, puis un accord sirop d’érable, cannelle, lys et encens. Entre les arbres, un daim de styrax réchauffe la mousse de chêne et le labdanum. Phoenicia de James Heeley vogue, lui, vers une ancienne terre biblique entre Chypre et Carthage. Une ôde au croissant fertile dont le cœur chaud construit autour d’une datte riche et sirupeuse s’accompagne de bois exotiques : santal, oud, bouleau et vétiver de Java. Vague aquatique enfin, avec Blasted Heath de Penhaligon’s. Sur ce rivage odorant, des algues vertes salées se mêlent à la sauge d’où s’échappent soudain des notes de tabac et de whisky résineuses contrastées par l’élégance terreuse du vetiver.

Created at the beginning of the 20th century to satisfy the tastes of the Maharajas, Tutti Frutti jewellery combines the most colourful gems in a seemingly random and very daring way.

When jewellers talk of Tutti Frutti, they are not making a reference to the famous rock song by Little Richard, but to a type of jewellery. It is a particular style that offers a true explosion of colours through the random setting of brightly hued precious stones like deep green emeralds, blue sapphires and rubies ranging from a raspberry shade to a deep blood red. And thus we understand why such jewellery got its name – it looks like a beautiful fresh fruit salad of kiwis, strawberries and blueberries. This is a jewellery fantasy that was born at the beginning of the 20th century, an era when the Maharajas began frequenting the jewellers of Place Vendôme, leading them to travel through India to source the rarest stones, allowing them to capture a new clientele.

Little by little, Indian dignitaries and royalty began placing orders with the major French houses. The most significant of these was placed in 1928 by the Maharaja of Patiala, who asked Boucheron to create 149 items with part of his own collection of stones: 7,571 diamonds (566 carats) and 1,432 emeralds (7,800 carats). The Maharajas loved jewellery, and among their privileges was the right to own the most beautiful gems in their kingdoms, a right that they exploited with splendour thanks to the inexhaustible reserves of diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds available in India. They also loved colour and ostentation, and that explains how the Tutti Frutti style was born. The surprise at the time was exceptional, and the result both original and beautiful, two qualities that allowed the Tutti Frutti style to attract Western buyers, which it continues to do today. The proof is to be found in the windows of Place Vendôme, notably at Cartier, which has made the style one of its signatures.

Lorsque les joailliers parlent de Tutti Frutti, ils ne pensent pas au célèbre morceau de rock interprété par Little Richard mais à une famille de bijoux. Un style particulier qui plébiscite une véritable explosion de couleurs au travers de sertissages aléatoires de pierres à la fois précieuses et vives, comme les émeraudes au vert profond, les saphirs bleus, et les rubis allant de teintes framboises à d’autres plus sang de pigeon. On comprend alors pourquoi ces bijoux ont été baptisés Tutti Frutti, ils ressemblent en fait à de belles salades de fruits, des kiwis, des fraises, des myrtilles… Une fantaisie joaillière qui est née au début du XXème siècle, époque à laquelle les Maharadjas deviennent clients de la place Vendôme. Les joailliers parcourent l’Inde afin de dénicher des pierres rares et trouver par la même occasion de nouveaux clients. Ca fonctionne, peu à peu, dignitaires et souverains indiens passent des commandes exceptionnelles aux grands noms français dont la plus importante reste celle faite en 1928 par le Maharadja de Patiala à Boucheron.

Une prérogative splendidement exploitée grâce aux inépuisables réserves de diamants, de rubis, de saphirs, d’émeraudes de l’Inde. Ils aiment également les couleurs, l’ostentation. C’est ainsi que le style Tutti Frutti sera créé. L’effet de surprise à l’époque est exceptionnel, le résultat est extrêmement original et esthétique. Deux qualités qui permettront au Tutti Frutti de charmer les occidentaux et ce, encore aujourd’hui… Il suffit pour cela de parcourir les vitrines de la place Vendôme, dont celles de Cartier, qui a fait de ce style une de ses signatures…

A beautiful piece of jewellery is a gift for life, there is no question of getting tired of it. That is how its makers reason, crafting singular pieces suitable for various situations.

We don’t always think of it, but when a woman falls for a beautiful piece of jewellery, she has to be sure of her choice. It’s not a spur of the moment purchase, but an investment, given its cost. And this reality is accompanied by another, very feminine one: an elegant woman does not like to be seen several times with the same piece of jewellery, in the same way as she hates to wear the same gown twice. And this is why the jewellers design pieces to be worn in a variety of different ways. With their creativity and audacity, they dream up the most surprising designs, with certain masterpieces seeming almost to explode into a range of possibilities. Most of the major jewellers play this game, and it is a trend that dates back almost to the beginnings of high jewellery. In the 17th century, it was not rare to see rings in which the central stone would flip away to reveal a little compartment for poison, a miniature or even a watch. More recently, in the fifties, there was a trend for transforming jewellery, with René Boivin its figurehead. Today, versatile jewellery is once again at the forefront – it was almost omnipresent at the latest high jewellery presentations. The central motif of a necklace can be detached to become a brooch, a chain necklace becomes two bracelets, a choker can also be worn as a diadem…certain houses go even further. Boucheron, for example, presented the first reversible necklace in Place Vendôme’s history this year. But that’s not all. Fred launched a new version of its famous Pain de Sucre ring in which the central cabochon is interchangeable, available in a broad range of hard stones that can be swapped in a click.

Un beau bijou, c’est pour la vie. Pas question de risquer de s’en lasser. C’est ainsi que les joailliers pensent pour une seule et unique pièce à différents portés.

Nous n’y pensons pas toujours, mais lorsqu’une femme succombe à un beau bijou, elle doit être certaine de son choix. Il ne s’agit pas ici d’un achat coup de cœur, mais plus d’un investissement aux vues des sommes concernées. Un état de fait qui s’accompagne d’une seconde réalité, très féminine, celle qui veut qu’une élégante n’aime pas vraiment se montrer à plusieurs reprises avec le même bijou ou la même robe du soir… C’est ainsi que les joailliers pensent, pour une seule et unique pièce, à différents portés. Au fil de leur créativité et de leur audace, ils signent alors des modèles surprennants. On pourrait dire qu’ils osent exploser certaines pièces maîtresses, en les rendant transformables, escamotables. La très grande majorité des joailliers sont concernés, c’est une véritable tendance dont les origines remontent quasiment à celle de la haute joaillerie. Au XVIIème siècle, il n’était pas rare de remarquer des bagues dont la pierre centrale était mobile afin de dévoiller une petite boîte à poison, une miniature ou encore une montre… Plus récemment, dans les années 50, la mode fut aux bijoux escamotables avec René Boivin comme figure de proue du phénomène. Aujourd’hui, la versatilité joaillière est à nouveau d’actualité. Impossible en effet de passer à côté lors des dernières présentations de haute joaillerie. Le motif central d’un collier se décroche et devient une broche, un sautoir se divise en deux machettes, un collier de chien, ras du cou, se porte également en diadème… Certaines maisons vont encore plus loin sur ce territoire.

Cette année, par exemple, Boucheron a présenté le premier collier reversible de l’histoire de la place Vendôme. Mais ce n’est pas tout, Fred a lancé une nouvelle version de sa célèbre bague Pain de Sucre en mettant au point un système d’interchangeabilité du cabochon qui se décline aujourd’hui dans une large palette de pierres dures que l’on peut changer en un clic !

С другой стороны, женская природа такова, что появляться несколько раз с одним и тем же украшением или в одном и том же вечернем платье — как-то не комильфо. Поэтому ювелиры стараются сразу предложить несколько вариантов, как носить одну и ту же вещь. Все зависит от их фантазии и смелости. Иногда они позволяют себе превратить культовую модель в настоящий трансформер. Так поступает большинство ювелирных домов, это традиция старинная, как само ювелирное искусство. В XVII в., например, в перстне в секретном отделении под крупным камнем часто прятали дозу яда, или миниатюрный портрет, или часы. А не так давно, в 1950 е гг., в моде были украшения «с секретом», самые знаменитые — работы Рене Буавена. Сегодня многофункциональность снова актуальна. В последних коллекциях крупных домов это выраженная тенденция. Центральная часть колье отстегивается и превращается в брошь, ожерелье разделяется на два браслета, колье-ошейник можно носить как диадему… Некоторые заходят и еще дальше. Boucheron, например, выпустил в этом году первое в истории Вандомское площади двустороннее колье («Jodhpur»), а Fred представил новую версию своего знаменитого кольца «Pain de Sucre» — со сменным драгоценным камнем.

Among the style effects so dear to watchmakers are so-called skeleton watches, with their movement pared down to the bare minimum and transformed into a lace-like pattern.

It is a given that women love mechanical watches. But on one condition: they must be beautiful. Among the creative fancies of our dear master watchmakers, we can find so-called skeleton timepieces. It is not a question of quirky watches with skulls and bones adorning their faces.

In fact, a skeleton watch doesn’t even have a face! In watchmaking, the term skeleton refers to the fact that all superfluous materials have been removed in order to give the appearance of lace. To do so, engravers use all their talent to cut, chisel and engrave a magnificent creation that it would be a shame not to show it off. Thus, the watch’s face disappears, and the hands appear to float in thin air. Which of course they don’t – they are either fixed to a piece of transparent sapphire glass or directly link to certain parts of the mechanism itself. The “skeletisation” of a movement is a slow, meticulous task, bringing women into the wonderful world of great complications – when they are associated with a feminine case, of course.

Skeleton watches for women should either be small – less than 40mm – in order to flatter a delicate wrist, or oversized but set with precious stones, preferably diamonds (they are a girl’s best friend, after all), on the ring, buckles or over the whole case. Some manufactures even go as far as to set stones directly into the movement, which itself is made of solid gold. Such mechanical strategies to please the fair sex are always collector editions, often limited series, sometimes one-offs, and their price can surpass one million euros.

C’est vrai, c’est un acquis, les femmes aiment les montres mécaniques ! Mais à une condition près, elles doivent rester belles. Parmi les délires créatifs de nos maîtres horlogers, il existe des garde-temps dits « squelettes ». Non, il ne s’agit pas de drôles de montres avec des os et autres têtes de morts dessinés sur le cadran. D’ailleurs, les squelettes n’ont plus de cadran ! Pourquoi ? Car si l’on parle en horlogerie de squellette, il faut penser au mouvement auquel la main de l’homme a supprimé toute matière inutile afin de lui donner une apparence de dentelle. Pour cela, les graveurs mettent leur talent en œuvre, coupent, cisèlent, gravent afin d’offrir aux femmes un spectacle magnifique qu’il serait dommage de dissimuler derrière un cadran. C’est ainsi qu’il disparaît, les aiguilles semblent alors flotter dans le vide… Et non, elles sont au choix fixées sur une une plaque de verre saphir transparente ou alors directement reliées à certains des composants du mouvement lui-même.

La squelettisation d’un mouvement, un travail minutieux, de longue haleine, fait donc entrer les femmes dans le monde merveilleux des grandes complications, lorsqu’elle est associée à un boîtier, il va de soi, féminin. Il sera donc de petite ouverture, moins de 40 millimètres afin de bien se positionner sur un poignet délicat, ou alors surdimenssionné, mais enrichi cette fois de sertissages de pierres précieuses, sur la lunette, les attaches du bracelet ou sur la totalité du boîtier avec une réelle préfèrence pour les diamants, les meilleurs amis des femmes… Encore et toujours… Il y a même quelques manufactures qui vont jusqu’à sertir directement le mouvement, lui-même sculpté dans de l’or massif. De nombreux stratagèmes mécaniques pour plaire aux belles dont les résultats sont tous des collectors, souvent édités en séries limitées, parfois à un seul et unique exemplaire, et dont les prix peuvent dépasser le million d’euros.

Одно из любимых стилистических решений часовщиков — часыскелетоны, в которых механизм не обременен лишними деталями и предстает во всей своей кружевной безыскусности. Прекрасный пол, бесспорно, любит механические часы. При одном условии: чтобы они были красивые. Среди креативных причуд ювелиров-часовщиков есть такая находка: часы-скелетоны. Не волнуйтесь, никаких готических эксцессов, никаких черепов и костей на циферблате. Собственно, тут и циферблата как такового нет. «Скелетон» просто значит, что механизм лишен всякого декоративного оформления, кроме собственного кружевного изящества шестеренок… и тонкой работы граверов и чеканщиков. В конечном счете, такую красоту жаль было бы прятать под циферблат. А потому из обычной отделки часов в скелетонах только стрелки, и кажется, что они парят в пустоте. На самом деле они прикреплены к прозрачной пластине из сапфирового стекла или непосредственно к одному из элементов механизма. «Скелетизация» требует долгой кропотливой работы. Благодаря ей поклонницам часов открывается чудесный мир хитроумных усложнений. Но, конечно, корпус должен все-таки выглядеть женственно: либо небольшой габарит (до 40 мм), либо, напротив, крупный, но с инкрустацией драгоценными камнями, желательно бриллиантами, по ободку, креплению пряжки или на корпусе. Некоторые мануфактуры украшают камнями даже сам механизм, а детали выполняют из цельного золота. Все эти изощренные и роскошные модели, конечно, коллекционные, порой даже выпускаются в единственном экзмепляре и стоят больше миллиона евро.

Could watchmaking be going round in circles? Never! Designers are continuing to advance thanks to their undoubted creativity. The latest trend to date: folding watches…

In the watchmaking industry, only the hands go around. Since the dawn of time (-keeping), watch designers have been proving their creativity. Take for example the year 1904, when Cartier presented the first wristwatch. We can easily imagine the public’s surprise! And such crazy ideas subsequently came in droves: The creation of the sport-chic concept by Rolex in 1926, with the first luxury waterproof watch; Jaeger-LeCoultre’s launch, in 1931, of Reverso, with its strange case that could be turned around to protect the face from shocks…And such folly incontestably created a trend. Geometric shapes, whether square, round, rectangular, triangular, oval…were no longer enough. We needed to go even further, in other words make watches explode – in a way – to allow them to show different faces. And thus, in the blink of an eye, a timepiece could hide its face in favour of its back.

Cartier was hot on the heels of Jaeger-LeCoultre when in 1932, it launched the Tank Basculante. This time, the face did not turn on a east-west axis, but from north to south. These two iconic timepieces – still in production – have inspired many others. More recently, different manufacturers have broached the “folding” subject. At De Grisogono, the face turns into a camera diaphragm, and at Valbray, the window is guided in order to open and close the diaphragm to reveal or hide the dial. Another example is Montblanc’s Metamorphosis. This model, with two faces, becomes a chronograph with a simple action of its dial, and with a second push, it begins to move, like a Meccano toy, revealing a second, simpler face, like that of a simple watch…

Be careful, your head may start to spin.

L’horlogerie tourne en rond ? Non, jamais ! Les designers continuent d’aller de l’avant au travers d’une créativité prouvée. Dernière tendance en date, les montres escamotables…

Dans l’industrie horlogère, seules les aiguilles tournent en rond. Depuis la nuit des temps, les designers horlogers font preuve d’une réelle créativité. Prenons comme exemple cette année 1904, lorsque Cartier présenta la première montre portable au poignet. On imagine facilement l’étonnement du public… Les idées folles en horlogerie se sont ensuite multipliées. La création du concept sport-chic par Rolex en 1926 avec la première montre de luxe et étanche à la fois. La création de la Reverso par JaegerLeCoultre en 1931 avec ce drôle de boîtier capable de se retourner sur lui-même afin de protéger son cadran d’éventuels chocs… Une folie qui a incontestablement créer une tendance. Les différentes géométries, carré, rond, rectangulaire, triangulaire, ovale, ne suffisaient plus, il fallait aller encore plus loin, en d’autres termes faire exploser les montres pour leur permettre d’afficher différents visages… Ainsi, en un clin d’œil, un garde-temps pouvait dissimuler son côté face au profit de son côté pile. C’est Cartier qui talonna à l’époque Jaeger-LeCoultre dans le domaine avec, en 1932, sa Tank Basculante. Cette fois, le boîtier ne se retournait pas suivant un axe 3 - 9 heures, mais 12 - 6 heures. Deux icônes horlogères, toujours en collection, dont l’esprit en a inspiré bien d’autres. En effet, plus récemment, différentes manufactures ont abordé le concept « escamotable »… Chez De Grisogono, le cadran se métamorphose en diaphragme d’appareil photos, tout comme chez Valbray qui a choisi la lunette comme commande afin d’ouvrir ou fermer le diaphragme et ainsi couvrir ou dévoiler le cadran. Autre exemple, Montblanc avec sa Metamorphosis. Un modèle à deux visages, par simple action sur le remontoir, son cadran devient chronographe, avec une seconde pression, l’ensemble se met en mouvement, comme un jeu de mécano, pour découvrir un nouveau cadran, plus sobre, comme celui d’une montre simple…

В часовой индустрии время никогда не обращается вспять. Дизайнеры все время изобретают что-нибудь новое. Творческая энергия и энтузиазм налицо. И… наизнанку. В часовом искусстве вневременно только качество. И одна из его сторон — фантазия. Часовщики испокон веков отличаются выдумкой. В 1904 г., например, дом Cartier придумал, что часы можно носить на запястье. После века с лишним, что они не покидали жилетного кармана, легко представить, как это было удивительно и ново! Но идея прижилась. За нею последовали другие, не менее сумасбродные для своего времени. Первая «спортивно-элитная» модель от Rolex (1926 г.) совмещала престижный облик и материал с практичной водонепроницаемостью.

«Reverso» от Jaeger-LeCoultre (1931 г.) обладала забавным корпусом: он поворачивался вокруг своей оси, чтобы уберечь циферблат от ударов. Странная, что и говорить, мысль! Но она положила начало новой моде. Просто менять циферблаты: квадратные, круглые, прямоугольные, овальные, даже треугольные — уже было недостаточно, хотелось чегонибудь еще более оригинального. Например, чтобы у одних часов было сразу два циферблата. Лицо и изнанка. В затылок дому Jaeger-LeCoultre дышал Cartier: в 1932 г. вышла модель «Tank Basculante». В ней циферблат поворачивался не горизонтально, по оси 3-9, а вертикально, по линии 126. Обе модели выпускаются до сих пор и послужили образцом для многих других. Например, у De Grisogono циферблат закрывается, как диафрагма в фотоаппарате. То же у Valbray, насколько циферблат открыт, регулируется поворотом ободка. Другой пример — «Metamorphosis» Montblanc. В этой двуликой модели, если нажать на кнопку завода, циферблат из хронографа превращается в более строгий и простой, и обратно, если нажать снова. Так и голова закружится…

Animal prints are back: leopard, zebra, giraffe, cow…hijacked in daring colours or finishes, whether washed out, coloured or on bright backgrounds, these are some seemingly drugged-up animals.

In fashion as in other domains, it is better to carefully dose things so as not to commit a faux pas. Animal prints are a prime example, as there is a very fine line between absolute chic and the epitome of bad taste. Let us remember that for a long time, elegance and certain speckled designs did not walk hand in hand. That is essentially the case for felid motifs – panther, ocelot and leopard having in certain eras been associated with loose women, shall we say. Yet this print knows how to show itself off perfectly this season, with a rare elegance and in a variety of different ways, from coats to jackets via skirts, dresses and floaty shirts.

Les impressions animalières sont de retour, léopard, zèbre, girafe ou vache, avec des détournements osés de couleur ou d'aspect : délavés, coloriés ou sur teintes vives, ces bêtes semblent avoir consommé de l'acide…

En mode comme en toute chose, il convient de savoir doser habilement pour ne pas commettre d'impairs. Les impressions animalières en sont un exemple avéré, tant la frontière peut être mince entre le chic absolu et la faute de goût... Il convient de se souvenir que longtemps, élégance et certaines impressions tachetées n'ont pas toujours fait bon ménage. C'est le cas essentiellement des motifs félidés, panthère, ocelot et autres léopards étant, à une autre époque, associés aux "femmes de mauvaise vie" ! Cet imprimé, pourtant, sait parfaitement s'afficher cette saison avec une rare élégance et dans toutes les déclinaisons possibles, du manteau au blouson, en passant par jupes, robes ou chemises fluides.

Usurped motifs The reasoning behind this return to grace is the talent the designers have shown in intelligently revisiting the very essence of the animal motif, with a clear inclination for the leopard print. The broad oblong spots of this big cat are found in all manner of ways. Colourized (where one spot in three is given a contrasting shade), optimized as giant motifs, washed out for a faded effect and, in several collections, placed on a brightly coloured background. This classic – outdated even – print suddenly takes on a whole new dimension and becomes elegance itself thanks to this miracle burst of youth. Other animals, like the zebra, the cow or the giraffe, have also readily lent their markings to the winter collections, but in a more punctual manner, unlike the leopard. The only obligation, whatever beast you choose, is to wear it simply, without adding unnecessary adornment…for risk of passing for a woman of dubious morals, no less.

Détournements de motifs La raison de ce nouvel état de grâce tient au talent des créateurs qui ont su intelligemment revisiter l'essence même du motif animalier, avec une nette inclinaison pour le léopard. Les larges taches oblongues de ce grand félin se retrouvent traitées à toutes les sauces. Colorisées (une tache sur trois reçoit une touche de couleur contrastée), optimisées en motifs géants, délavées pour une effet atténué et, dans beaucoup de collections, apposées sur un fond de couleur vive.

Cet imprimé classique, voire suranné, prend soudain une toute autre dimension et devient notablement élégant, grâce à cette cure bienvenue de rajeunissement.

D'autres animaux, comme le zèbre, la vache ou la girafe, prêtent aussi volontiers leurs taches aux collections hivernales, mais de façon plus ponctuelle, loin derrière le léopard. Une seule constante, quel que soit la bête choisie, l'arborer sobrement sans ajouts inutiles d'accessoires dorés, sous peine de passer pour une femme de... mauvaise vie

От изысканности до вульгарности здесь всего один шаг. Вспомним, что некоторые «хищные» мотивы долгое время считались несовместимыми с элегантностью: пантера, леопард и иже с ними прочно ассоциировались с дамами полусвета. В наши дни, однако, кошачьи расцветки полностью реабилитированы. Они прекрасно смотрятся на любой вещи, будь то пальто, куртка, платье, юбка или блузка, а в этом сезоне отличаются безупречным благородством. Классика на новый лад Обязаны они этим дизайнерам, которые по-новому обыгрывают самую сущность «животных» орнаментов, особенно леопарда. Каким только экспериментам не подвергают эти продолговатые пятна! И красят (каждое третье выделяется контрастным цветом), и увеличивают до гигантских размеров, и выцвечивают, чтобы убавить выразительности, и, во многих коллекциях, наносят на яркий фон. В этих свежих трактовках классический, даже старомодный, узор приобретает современное и рафинированное звучание. В зимних коллекциях мелькают и другие анималистические раскраски: зебра, корова, — но значительно реже, чем леопард. Так или иначе, для любой из них совет один: компенсировать ее подчеркнутой сдержанностью остальных вещей и аксессуаров, никакого золота. А то ведь свежо предание…

The shooting star of accessories, the hat is back at the forefront of the fashion scene this winter, the perfect symbol of femininity and timeless elegance.

We almost thought it had been forgotten, or at least relegated to the fashion archives since the end of the sixties. Aside from a few spruce eighty-somethings who would not envisage for an instant going bare-headed, the hat had lost its essential role at the heart of feminine elegance. Of course, it could still be spotted in the summer, in the form of a straw or panama hat, or in the winter as a bobble hat or fur number, but in that role, its function was more important than its form.

We had forgotten that the hat’s role is not just to protect us from the elements, but can be an integral part of our personal style and a great way to show off an insolent, seductive personality. Whatever its shape – cloche, toque, beret, Breton, capeline, turban or fascinator – it heightens the intensity of the eyes, blurs any defaults of complexion and accentuates the curve of the lips. In sum, its power to attract masculine attention is indisputable. The milliner’s profession has become increasingly attractive to young artisans offering unique creations for customers who until recently considered headwear as decidedly outmoded.

On le pensait presque oublié et relégué dans les archives de la mode depuis la fin des années 60. À part quelques pimpantes octogénaires qui n'envisageraient pas un instant sortir "En cheveux", le chapeau avait perdu sa position d'incontournable de l'élégance féminine. Certes, on l'apercevait encore l'été, en canotier ou en panama, ou l'hiver en bonnet ou en toque fourrée, mais la fonction prenait alors le pas sur la forme. C'est oublié que le chapeau n'est pas uniquement là pour protéger des éléments, mais qu'il est avant tout la signature personnalisée d'une tenue et une jolie manière d'afficher une insolente séduction. Quelque soit sa forme, cloche, toque, béret, breton, capeline, turban ou autre bibi, il met en valeur le regard, floute les (éventuels) défauts du teint et accentue la courbe des lèvres.

Bref, le chapeau focalise indéniablement les regards masculins...

Le métier de modiste attire d'ailleurs de plus en plus de jeunes artisans proposant des créations uniques à des clientes qui n'avaient jusqu'alors du chapeau qu'une vision surannée.

Showing our colours The hat has made a true return this season – it has been seen in both haute couture and ready-to-wear collections as the ultimate touch of elegance, and is no longer the preserve of worldly events. And its only constant is that, for either day or evening wear, it shows its colours. For daytime, the ever-so-strict trilby takes on a totally different allure when chosen in a petroleum blue or blood orange shade, while the beret is all the more quirky in purple velvet. For evening, the most sober of outfits takes on a couture bent with a multi-coloured feather fascinator perched at a bias on top of a loose bun. As for veiled designs and the gestures that go with them, they give a new meaning to eroticism.

Le soir, la plus sobre des tenues devient absolument couture avec un bibi de plumes multicolores, crânement perché en biais sur chignon flou. Quant au modèle avec voilette et la gestuelle qui l'accompagne, il redonne un tout autre sens à la notion d'érotisme...

Словом, ориентирует мужской взгляд в нужном направлении. Поэтому все больше молодых портных сегодня специализируются, как раньше модистки, на шляпах. Они создают авторские модели — для клиенток, которые до сих пор представляли себе шляпу только как нечто старомодное. Яркие цвета В этом сезоне шляпы повсюду, от высокой моды до прет-а-порте, причем не только вечерние. И для выхода в свет, и в обычной жизни налицо общая тенденция: больше красок! Строгая фетровая шляпа-унисекс выглядит совершенно иначе, если она ярко-синяя или оранжевая, а банальный берет обретает некую театральность, если сделан из фиолетового бархата. А уж вечерние туалеты с головным убором и подавно выигрывают. Сдержанному платью придаст пикантности шляпка с разноцветными перьями, небрежно пришпиленная к слегка растрепанному шиньону. А в модели с вуалеткой, которую приподнимают изящно и многозначительно, отзывается легкая эротическая нотка.

Many are the names, expressions and circumlocutions used to describe such an unqualifiable state.

There is a spark, a little extra dose of soul that is ineffable yet powerful, a magic spell that draws every eye towards a single face, and no other. It is a phenomenon in the preliminary sense of the term, both chemical and emotional, that is felt more than explained, but that leaves no place for doubt when it hits. This X Factor is felt, without a doubt, when you meet Ana Girardot. I first caught a peek of her in the dressing room of a photo studio, surrounded by a gaggle of stylist, makeup artist and hair stylist. Of course she was beautiful, with her slender silhouette, her sparkling eyes and delicious dimples, but there is no lack of exceedingly beautiful young actresses, and beauty alone does not suffice. More to the point, she was obviously lively and charming, with a smile on her face, where others struggle to string two words together, or become big-headed at the slightest supporting role, but on that front too, courtesy and a lively mind have never constituted a legend.

Her fresh luminosity was a clue, but at this point, there was nothing planetary to remark. It was only in front of the camera that this young woman’s power became evident.

Despite the thousand blasts of light inherent to a photoshoot, and the various successive incarnations of the subject that are all a bit false, due to the photographer’s requests to pose, something magical happened. She transformed from vamp to Lolita, haughty to sensual, gay to serious with an ease that verged on insolence, all the while remaining to her own self true, in tune with a singular score, both stubborn and fascinating. Protean and unchanging, false and sincere, open and impenetrable: in a word, the fantasy that is called an actress.

Nombreux sont les noms, les expressions et les périphrases forgés pour qualifier cet état justement inqualifiable.

Une étincelle, un supplément d’âme aussi ineffable que puissant, un sortilège irréductible à toute définition qui fait que, d’un seul coup, un visage, et nul autre, aimante tous les regards. Un phénomène au sens premier du terme, à la foi chimique et émotionnel, qui se ressent bien plus qu’il ne s’explique, mais s’impose sans l’ombre d’un doute lorsqu’on y est confronté. Un facteur X qui s’incarne singulièrement en Ana Girardot. Je l’ai d’abord entraperçue dans le dressing-room d’un studio photo, happée par une cohorte de styliste, maquilleur et coiffeur affairés. Bien sûr, elle était ravissante, façon silhouette gracile, regard pétillant et fossettes délicieuses, mais les jeunes aspirantes actrices belles à tomber, ce n’est pas ce qui manque, et cela n’a jamais suffit. Encore mieux, elle était de toute évidence vive, charmante et souriante, là où tant d’autres sont à la peine pour aligner deux mots, ou prennent la grosse tête au moindre vague second rôle, mais là non plus, la courtoisie et l’esprit n’ont jamais construit une légende. Seule sa fraicheur lumineuse donnait un indice, mais rien encore de bouleversant à signaler ce stade. Ce n’est que devant l’objectif que l’empire immédiat qu’exerce cette jeune femme aussitôt qu’elle entre dans la lumière s’est vraiment manifesté.

En dépit des mille artifices inhérents à un shooting, et des différentes incarnations successives fatalement un peu artificielles voulues par le photographe, quelque chose s’est passé. Tour à tour vamp ou lolita, hautaine ou sensuelle, rieuse ou grave, elle passait d’un état à un autre avec une aisance presque insolente, tout en demeurant pourtant éminemment elle-même, au diapason d’une partition singulière, obstinée et fascinante. Protéiforme et immuable, menteuse et sincère, évidente et indéchiffrable, en un mot, ce fantasme qui s’incarne parfois, et que l’on nomme une actrice.

Сколько придумано слов, выражений, оборотов, чтобы дать определение этому неопределимому качеству! Это какая-то искорка, некая неизъяснимая, но мощная аура, особое колдовское очарование, которое не укладывается в слова, но приковывает к тому или иному лицу все взгляды. Это не поддающийся науке химический или эмоциональный феномен. Его можно только ощутить, не описать. Но стоит испытать его на себе, и никаких сомнений не остается. Этот «X-фактор» принимает особую форму в Ане Жирардо. Первый раз я увидел ее мельком, в гримерочной фотостудии. Вокруг суетился целый отряд стилистов, гримеров и парикмахеров. Конечно, она была прелестна, изящна, с лукавым смешливым взглядом и очаровательными ямочками на щеках. Но мало ли хорошеньких молодых актрис? Разве достаточно быть красивой? Положим, Ана к тому же остроумна, обаятельна и улыбчива. Многие двух слов связать не могут или задирают нос, стоит им сорвать гденибудь ролишку второго плана. Но опять-таки и обходительности, и находчивости мало, чтобы стать настоящей звездой. Пожалуй, ее лучезарная свежесть выглядит многообещающе… однако и в этом нет ничего из ряда вон выходящего. Лишь перед камерой обнаружилось, какая всепокоряющая сила исходит от этой девушки, как только она оказывается в центре внимания. На съемках всегда используется масса искусственных приемов и уловок. Фотограф требует перевоплощаться в множество разных образов, и все они заведомо не могут выглядеть естественно. Но тут произошло чтото особенное. Женщина-вамп, лолита, высокомерная, чувственная, смеющаяся, серьезная, — Ана переходила от одного персонажа к другому легко, с просто-таки вопиющей непринужденностью. И при этом все время оставалась собой. Словно упорно разыгрывала неповторимую, завораживающую партитуру.

As such, it is not hard to understand how so many directors have sought to take advantage of such an instinct, such a character, and turn her into one of the new faces of French cinema. Since her first major role in “Lights Out” in 2010, her name has featured on the billboard no less than eight times, from drama (“Le Beau Monde,”) to thriller (“La Prochaine Fois je Viserai le Coeur”) via romantic comedy (“Amitiés Sincères”) and biopic (“Cloclo”), not to forget an incursion walking the boards – in Nicolas Briançon’s staging of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” Her portfolio is both versatile and well chosen, and her rise to stardom will undoubtedly be confirmed further in 2016, as she is set to appear in two highly anticipated films: the new Cédric Klapisch movie “Le Vin et le Vent,” and the new comedy “Saint Amour” by Benoît Delépine and Gustave de Kervern, which will undoubtably be suitably louche.

With each change of clothes, Ana’s talent was confirmed, but inversely, the mystery of her character thickened. Is she modern or timeless? Innocent or determined? Is she in control or does she give in to abandon? My brain was working on various hypotheses, thinking about the questions I would ask her in order to put words to these striking yet fleeting impressions. But destiny intended things otherwise: the photoshoot was delayed, and Ana had to run off just as the last shot was taken, without having time to answer my questions. It wasn’t a case of diva-ttitude, far from it – she was already late for the “Cocktail des Visionnaires” organized by Ted Turner and his Captain Planet Foundation to tie in with the COP21 summit. Perhaps it was better that way: what would be the point of asking her about her background, her vocation, her inspirations – her favourite ice cream flavour, even – after all? To the only truly relevant question, I already had the answer: the X-Factor that so many people seek out, Ana most definitely has it.

“She’s got it,” as the Americans would say – and the rest is history.

Dès lors, comment s’étonner que nombre de metteurs en scène aient eu envie de s’emparer d’un tel instinct et d’une telle nature, et de faire d’elle l’un des nouveaux visages du cinéma français ? Depuis un premier rôle marquant qui la révéla dans Simon Werner a disparu en 2010, son nom s’est ainsi déjà retrouvé pas moins de huit fois à l’affiche, du film social (Le Beau Monde) au thriller (La prochaine fois je viserai le cœur) en passant par la comédie romantique (Amitiés sincères) ou le biopic (Cloclo), sans compter une incursion au théâtre avec le Roméo et Juliette de Shakespeare par Nicolas Briançon. Une palette de comédienne aussi versatile que sensible, et une montée en puissance irrésistible qui se confirmera selon toute logique encore davantage en 2016, puisqu’on la retrouvera à l’affiche de deux films très attendus : Le Vin et le vent, le nouveau Cédric Klapisch, et le nouvel OVNI signé par le duo Kervern/ Delépine, Saint Amour.

Au fil des changements de tenues, si l’évidence Ana se confirmait, le mystère de sa nature exacte à l’inverse s’épaississait. Modernité ou intemporalité ? Innocence ou détermination ? Contrôle ou abandon ? Mon esprit déjà échafaudait des hypothèses, et anticipait les questions que j’allais lui poser, histoire de mettre des mots sur des impressions fulgurantes mais fugaces. Mais le destin en a voulu autrement : le shooting ayant pris du retard, Ana dût filer aussitôt le dernier cliché en boite, sans pouvoir prendre le temps de répondre à mes questions. Nulle attitude de diva à voir là-dedans: on l’attendait simplement déjà au « Cocktail des Visionnaires » organisé par Ted Turner et sa fondation Captain Planet à l’occasion de la COP 21. Et peut-être est-ce au fond mieux ainsi : en quoi l’interroger sur sa généalogie, les mécanismes de sa vocation, ses modèles d’actrices, voire son parfum de glace préféré, avancerait-il à quoi que ce soit ? À la seule question qui vaille, j’avais déjà une réponse : ce facteur X que tant de gens traquent en vain, Ana le possède au plus haut point. She’s got it comme disent les américains, et tout le reste n’est que littérature.

Со времен своей первой крупной роли, в фильме «Симон Вернер исчез» (2010 г.), она уже снялась в восьми картинах: в «социальном» кино («Прекрасный мир»), в триллере («В следующий раз я буду стрелять в сердце»), в романтической комедии («Верные друзья»), в биопике («Клокло») и других — и сыграла в театре, в «Ромео и Джульетте» в постановке Никола Бриансона. Она обладает гибким и тонким актерским дарованием, и ее карьера неуклонно идет в гору. В 2016 г. на экраны выйдут еще две ленты с ее участием: «Вино и ветер», новая работа Седрика Клапиша, и «Сент-Амур», странный, не относимый ни к какому жанру совместный фильм Гюстава Керверна и Бенуа Дельпина. И может, оно и к лучшему. Какой смысл был бы выспрашивать у нее про семью до пятого колена, да как она нашла свое призвание, да какие у нее любимые актрисы, да какое любимое мороженое… Главное мне уже было понятно. Ана в полной мере обладает этим загадочным «Х-фактором», который многие годами пытаются найти. «She’s got it», как говорят американцы. Все прочее — праздная писанина.

On n’aurait pu voir dans l’arrivée de Jonathan Anderson, jeune prodige de la mode britannique, chez la vénérable maison Loewe qu’un « coup ».

Celui du designer ultra-pointu qui vient réveiller de sa coolitude une grande dame endormie, l’une des martingales favorites de la mode depuis au moins la nomination du très jeune Yves Saint Laurent pour succéder à Christian Dior dans les années 50. Avec des résultats aléatoires, et nombre de ratés que l’on passera charitablement sous silence.

Mais dès son annonce, un petit frisson d’excitation a néanmoins parcouru l’échine des fashionistas : de tous les récents talents venus de Londres, Anderson est sans nul doute le plus excitant, et sa griffe perso en plein essor témoigne non seulement d’une créativité peu commune, mais aussi d’un réalisme commercial rare chez des créateurs British souvent trop expérimentaux. Et de tous les beaux noms en déshérence, Loewe, avec son appartenance à LVMH, son savoir-faire réputé et son absence de style identifiable dans l’esprit du grand public, était celui dont le potentiel à la réinvention paraissait le plus prometteur.

Trois collections plus tard, la promesse est mieux que tenue : en opérant à la façon de Philo chez Céline un « reset » total incluant non seulement le style, mais aussi la publicité, la décoration des boutiques et la mise en scène des défilés, Anderson a électrisé l’Hermès espagnol. Mais ce cachet nouveau de branchitude ne s’est pas fait au détriment du fond, bien au contraire : la modernité et la sensualité hightech du Loewe revu et corrigé par Anderson s’accordent à merveille avec cette tradition d’avant-gardisme et d’audace que l’on avait un peu oublié, mais qui est historiquement au coeur de l’héritage de la maison. Des instant classics tels que le pantalon de judo de cuir, le trench revisité ou le sac puzzle ont d’ores et déjà annoncé la couleur : précurseur et poétique, singulier et somptueux, les ambitions du Loewe nouveau sont immenses.

The arrival of young British design protégé Jonathan Anderson at the venerable house of Loewe could have been interpreted as just another marketing coup.

As in, the uber-trendy designer had been missioned with awakening, with his hip attitude, a grande dame who had dozed off – one of the fashion world’s favourite games ever since the nomination of a very young Yves Saint Laurent to succeed Christian Dior in the fifties. The technique has not always been successful, and let us not linger on the many failures.

But as soon as his arrival was announced, there was a shiver of excitement among fashionistas: of all the recent talent freshly arrived from London, Anderson is undoubtedly the most exciting, and his eponymous label’s success bears witness not just to his seemingly boundless creativity, but also to a commercial realism very rare in British designers, who are often overly experimental. And of all the good old names fallen into decay, Loewe was the one whose potential for reinvention was the strongest – it belongs to LVMH, has a reputed savoir-faire and its style cannot be easily pinned down by the broader public.

Three collections later, his promise has been more than kept: by operating in the manner of Philo at Céline, with a total reset, changing not just the style, but the advertising, the boutique design and the staging of the fashion shows, Anderson has electrified the “Spanish Hermès”. But this new, trendy cachet has not been gained to the detriment of the brand’s roots, far from it: the high-tech modernity and sensuality of Loewe according to Anderson are actually completely in tune with the avant-garde, audacious tradition that had admittedly been largely forgotten, but that historically had been an integral part of the brand’s DNA. Instant classics like leather judoka trousers, the revisited trench or the puzzle bag are standard bearers for what is to come: avant-garde and poetic, singular and sumptuous, the ambitions of the new Loewe are boundless.

The high-tech modernity and sensuality of Loewe according to Anderson are actually completely in tune with the avant-garde, audacious tradition.

With every fashion week, it begins again. Far from dying down, the ballet of the designers has gained traction in 2015, a year rich in transfers and resounding with resignations. So Chic keeps you up to date.

Shock at Dior In barely three years, Raf Simons had succeeded in making us forget the Galliano trauma, imposing his sumptuous, sober and contemporary vision at Dior. Eulogistic reviews, sales at their height: his reign seemed set to continue, and thus to say the announcement of his departure was a shock is definitely an understatement. Its cause was the colossal pressure that went with such a prestigious job. Simons now plans to dedicate himself to his own label, while the house of Dior is taking the time needed to find a worthy successor.

Divorce at Lanvin Since his arrival in 2001, Alber Elbaz had succeeded in doing what we all believed impossible after so many years of abandon: reviving the oldest of the French couture houses. Under his leadership, the new Lanvin woman conquered the world. But a disagreement with the brand’s owners about strategy provoked their parting of ways.

Neither has announced their plans for the future, but Lanvin will be hard pressed to find a successor, so well had Elbaz stamped his mark on the brand, while some are already announcing the arrival of the Israeli designer at Dior.

Avant-garde at Balenciaga Despite his "decent" collections, the graft had visibly not taken between Alexander Wang and Balenciaga, and it is on amicable terms that the New Yorker and the house on Avenue George V have put an end to what was in the end just a parentheses for both parties. A successor of the most radical sort was announced almost immediately: Demna Gvasalia, of the cult underground label Vêtements.

Lightning strikes at Gucci The nomination of a complete unknown – Alessandro de Michele, previously in charge of accessories – at the head of Gucci’s creative empire seemed nothing short of crazy. But in the space of six months and two collections, the risk has turned to triumph: the poetic, eccentric world of this Wes Anderson of fashion has provoked a Gucci-mania the likes of which the Florentine label had not seen since Tom Ford.

And other major transfers of the past few months...

Peter Dundas goes from Pucci to Cavalli; Peter Copping succeeds Oscar de la Renta and leaves Nina Ricci behind, where he is replaced by Guillaume Henry, who in turn leaves Carven. And last but not least, John Galliano is back at Margiela Artisanal.

Critiques dithyrambiques, chiffre d’affaire au zénith : son règne semblait parti pour durer, et c’est peu dire que l’annonce de son départ a été un choc. En cause ? La pression colossale allant de pair avec un poste aussi prestigieux. Simons entend se consacrer désormais à sa griffe, tandis que la Maison Dior s’accorde tout le temps nécessaire à lui trouver un digne successeur.

Sous sa houlette, la nouvelle femme Lanvin avait conquis le monde. Mais un désaccord avec les propriétaires sur la stratégie a précipité la rupture. D’un côté comme de l’autre, aucun projet n’est annoncé, mais Lanvin aura fort à faire pour trouver un successeur, tant Elbaz a imprimé sa marque sur la griffe, tandis que d’aucuns annoncent déjà l’arrivée du l’israélien chez Dior.

Avant-garde chez Balenciaga En dépit de collections « honnêtes », la greffe ne prenait manifestement pas entre Alexander Wang et Balenciaga, et c’est à l’amiable que le créateur new-yorkais et la maison de l’avenue George V ont mis fin à ce qui n’aura été au final qu’une parenthèse pour l’un et l’autre. Un successeur en forme de choix radical a été annoncé dans la foulée : Demna Gvasalia, du culte et underground label Vêtements.

Coup de foudre chez Gucci La nomination d’un total inconnu, Alessandro de Michele, jusqu’alors en charge des accessoires, à la direction créative de l’empire Gucci avait tout du pari un peu fou.

En l’espace de six mois et deux collections, la prise de risque a viré au triomphe : l’univers entre poésie et excentricité du Wes Anderson de la mode a créé un Guccimania comme la griffe Florentine n’en avait pas vue depuis Tom Ford.

Et aussi, en vrac, les autres transferts majeurs de ces derniers mois : Peter Dundas passe de Pucci à Cavalli ; Peter Copping succède à Oscar de la Renta et quitte Nina Ricci, où le remplace un Guillaume Henry en partance de chez Carven. John Galliano est de retour chez Margiela Artisanal.

Колоссальный груз ответственности на престижном посту. Теперь Симонс намерен всецело сосредоточиться на собственной марке, а Dior неторопливо подыскивает ему достойную замену.

Lanvin: развод Альбер Эльбаз возглавил Lanvin в 2001 г. Самый старинный французский дом моды несколько десятилетий прозябал в забвении; Эльбаз сумел вернуть ему блеск и признание, и новая «женщина Lanvin» покорила весь мир. Once upon a time, in a land named Paris, there was a young fairy. She was called the Printemps Fairy, and her magical power was her ability to bring back, during the Christmas period, the spring season.

Inspired by a fairy tale created in its honour in 1911, Printemps is bringing its eponymous fairy back to life. Conceived like an ode to light, this incredible tale of Christmas at Printemps is staged in collusion with Philippe Decouflé. In partnership with the Printemps team and for the joy of passers-by on Boulevard Haussmann, he has for the first time created nine fully animated store windows, in the pure tradition of Christmas windows. For an even more magical experience, two of them are dedicated to an interactive experience. The Printemps Fairy travels through various magical worlds, taking with her, in a spinning farandole, a joyful crowd of adorable followers, each imagined by a different partner brand and inspired by its world: Lancôme has created Les Demoiselles Roses, Longines the Little Masters of Time; Sonia Rykiel brought along Parisian Dolls, while Christian Louboutin imagined Les Jolies Danseuses; Evian invented the Genies of the Spring, and Burberry provided English Puppets. Printemps’ Chistmas story continues in the store’s main entrance with a pop-up experience created by Lancôme, a winter garden with the codes and colours of the brand: white, pink and gold roses. The atrium, meanwhile, houses a giant Christmas tree and the house of Fauchon and its delicacies like gift hampers and fresh pastries including the three exclusive cakes created for Printemps’ 150th anniversary: Mister Chou, L’éclair and the Baiser Fauchon. Last but not least, in the magnificent cupola that is home to Printemps Haussmann’s Brasserie, chef Virginie Basselot, who earned a Michelin star in 2014 and was awarded the title of Best Artisan in France in 2015, has elaborated a menu around a golden theme. To close its 150th anniversary year, the Printemps department store is transformed into a world where magic, poetry and fantasy reign over an exceptional Christmas.

Il était une fois, dans une contrée nommée Paris, une jeune fée. Elle s’appelait la Fée Printemps. Elle avait le pouvoir magique de faire renaitre, pendant la période de Noël, la saison du printemps.

S’inspirant d’un conte, créé en son honneur en 1911, le Printemps fait revivre la Fée éponyme. Imaginé telle une ode à la lumière qui reprend ses droits, cet incroyable conte de Printemps à Noël, est mis en scène avec la complicité de Philippe Decouflé. Ce dernier, en collaboration avec les équipes du Printemps, offre pour la première fois aux passants du boulevard Haussmann neuf vitrines entièrement animées, renouant ainsi avec les traditionnelles vitrines enfantines.

Pour encore plus de magie, deux vitrines sont dédiées à une expérience interactive avec les passants. La Fée Printemps traverse des mondes magiques et entraine avec elle, en une farandole virevoltante, une nuée joyeuse d’adorables complices, tous imaginés avec la connivence de partenaires différents aux univers riches : Les Demoiselles Roses de Lancôme, Les Petits Maitres du Temps de Longines, Les Poupées Parisiennes de Sonia Rykiel, Les Jolies Danseuses de Christian Louboutin, Les Génies de la Source d’Evian et Les Marionnettes Anglaises de Burberry. Le conte de Printemps à Noël se poursuit dans l’entrée principale qui accueille un popup expérientiel créé avec la Maison Lancôme, jardin d’hiver aux codes et couleurs de cette dernière : roses blanches, roses et or. L’atrium, quant à lui, reçoit au pied de l’immense sapin de Noël, la Maison Fauchon et son offre d’épicerie fine, de coffrets cadeaux et de pâtisseries fraiches comme ces 3 entremets exclusifs qui célèbrent les 150 ans du Printemps : le Mister Chou, L’éclair et le Baiser Fauchon.

Enfin, sous la magnifique coupole de la Brasserie du Printemps Haussmann, la chef étoilée Virginie Basselot, saluée par le guide Michelin en 2014 et désignée Meilleur Ouvrier de France en 2015, élabore un menu sur le thème de l’or. A l’occasion de son 150ème anniversaire, le grand magasin Printemps se transforme en un spectacle « total » où règne magie, poésie et fantaisie pour un Noël d’exception !

Ever since men began carrying around a plethora of electronic devices, finding a suitable, elegant receptacle to transport them all has become his ultimate quest.

With the exception of a few conscientious objectors who refuse technological advances, most men today are equipped with at least a smartphone and a tablet or laptop. All of these so-called “mobile” products, by way of accumulation, soon become far less “portable” without the use of a dedicated accessory – we’ll call it a “man-bag.” We could opt quite simply to slip the phone into a pocket and the computer or tablet into a zipped pouch, but that’s quite a risky exercise. The shirt pocket is rapidly pulled out of shape by a mobile phone, and that’s if it doesn’t fall out, risking breaking the screen. For the rest, the oh-so-practical pouch leaves a lot to be desired in the elegance stakes, and tends to be in fact more cumbersome than it is useful.

À l'exception de quelques réfractaires ignorant les avancées de la technologie, la plupart des hommes dispose, a minima, d'un Smartphone, d'une tablette ou d'un ordinateur portable. Et c'est dans ce dernier adjectif que réside le problème, tous ces produits "portables" deviennent, en accumulation, rapidement intransportables sans l'utilisation d'un accessoire dédié, le sac au masculin.

On peut bien sûr opter simplement pour Smartphone en poche et ordinateur/ tablette en sacoche zippée, mais c'est alors accumuler les risques. Poche de poitrine déformée par le mobile, ou pire, chute de ce dernier et bris de l'écran.

Pour le reste, la sacoche "technique" est rarement élégante et encombre plus qu'elle n'est utile.

Desperately seeking man-bag This men’s accessory has many manifestations – shopper, saddle-bag, briefcase, backpack, beggar’s bag or shoulder bag. The choice of shapes is broad, and each of them is often enough revisited by the designers in an edgy manner, as are the materials used to make them: soft leather, exotic skins, fur inserts or embroidered fabrics, and even advanced technical materials when it comes to backpacks. An important part of the men’s wardrobe this winter, the bag is so much more than a practical item. It has become, in the figurative sense, a vehicle for the chosen lifestyle of each and every one of us. From time to time, it is a means of assuming a certain edgy style. Raw jeans and baggy sweater can ooze sophistication when teamed with a soft python shopper, while a smart, fitted suit can be oh-so-edgy when coupled with a shoulder bag worn across the body, or, for the more geeky among us, with a backpack made of the latest technical fabric…

Chacun cherche son sac Le sac masculin se décline en moult versions, cabas, sacoche souple, mallette, sac à dos, besace ou même pochette en bandoulière ! Le choix est donc vaste dans les formes, souvent revisitées de façon pointue par les créateurs, mais aussi dans les matières : cuirs souples, peausseries exotiques, inserts de fourrure ou de tissus brodés et même matières ultra techniques pour les sacs à dos. Pièce forte du dressing masculin cet hiver, le sac va plus loin que son simple aspect pratique.

Il devient, au sens figuré, porteur du mode de vie de celui qui l'a choisi. Et en usant parfois d'un certain décalage, volontairement assumé ! Jean brut et pull oversize prendront un coup de chic avec un cabas en python souple, un costume strict coupé près du corps jouera le décalage avec une double pochette en bandoulière croisée ou, pour les plus geeks, avec un sac à dos en matière ultra technique...

Не все гонятся за последней моделью, но совсем уж остаться в стороне от технологий сегодня надо постараться. У большинства все-таки есть, как минимум, смартфон, планшет или ноутбук. И все они вроде бы портативные. Но в совокупности держать их все при себе невозможно, если нет важного для современного горожанина аксессуара — мужской сумки. То есть можно, конечно, носить смартфон в кармане, а планшет просто в чехле, но это чревато. Как минимум, мешковатыми карманами. А скорее, разбитым экраном. Не говоря о том, что «практичные» чехлы, как правило, громоздкие и некрасивые. На любой вкус Мужских сумок множество. Через плечо, мягкий портфель, кейс, рюкзак, на ремне… Эти модели часто получают у того или иного дизайнера оригинальную трактовку, как в форме, так и в выборе материи: мягкая кожа, экзотическая кожа, вставки из меха или ткани с вышивкой, высокотехнологичные материалы. Этой зимой сумка призвана быть не только функциональной, но и выполнять определенную стилистическую роль. Она символизирует образ жизни. Иногда за счет подчеркнутой несочетаемости. Грубым джинсам и мешковатому свитеру придаст породистости сумка из кожи питона, строгий облегающий костюм по-новому обыграет двойной клатч на перекрестных ремнях, а «технари» с удовольствием будут носить неопреновый рюкзак.

From a long scarf made of soft silk to an over-sized fringed number, even the most hypochondriac among men would not dare to complain of a sore throat this winter.

It’s often the accessory that a man never thinks about until the temperature drops abruptly below zero, or when he feels a cold coming on. It is only then that he brings out his trusty monochrome – or tartan at a push – wool number that had been abandoned at the bottom of a drawer for months. Let’s face it, it’s time to reinstate the humble scarf to its rightful place – that of a sophisticated accessory suitable for almost all seasons, and to embrace various shapes and colours according to the attire of the moment. Snuggled around the neck, negligently hung over the shoulders of a jacket or worn in the ethnic style, with made-to-measure embroideries: anything is possible, it all depends on your style and the whim of the moment. This winter, the scarf takes on a new dimension, becoming an integral part of any outfit or even, depending on the model and style chosen, its core element.

The choice of fabric is essential. Featherweight cashmere is ideal for wrapping around the neck like an Arabic scarf, while 8- or 10-ply cashmere derived as a giant shawl can replace a coat and, for the trendiest numbers with embroideries or fringes, beautiful fabrics like silk should be chosen to avoid dabbling with bad taste.

According to the occasion, a man can wear this accessory casually in the daytime, the most important aspect being that it must always seem to be an integral part of his outfit. In the evening, he can get away with almost anything, from a scarf that floats negligently over his shoulders to a kerchief knotted at the nape of the neck – even a long scarf worn in guise of a cummerbund under a dress jacket. And he will take particular care of this accessory, the greatest danger being its risk of disappearing…to re-emerge around the neck of the woman in his life, fascinated by this intimate accessory that has been worn so close to the skin of her loved one.

C'est souvent l'accessoire auquel l'homme ne pense qu'en extrême limite lorsque la température a brusquement chuté, ou qu'il couve un rhume. On ressort alors l'éternelle écharpe en laine monochrome ou vaguement écossaise, abandonnée depuis des mois au fond d'un tiroir... Il est plus que temps de donner à cette pièce la place qu'elle mérite vraiment, celle d'un accessoire chic multi saison, et d'en adapter formes et couleurs en fonction de la tenue. Cet hiver, elle prend une tout autre dimension, devenant partie intégrante de la tenue et même, selon le modèle et la forme choisis, la pièce phare. La matière est aussi primordiale au moment du choix. Un cachemire plume sera idéal à enrouler à la façon d'un chèche, le cachemire 8 ou 10 fils décliné en grand étole pourra remplacer le manteau et, pour les pièces les plus tendance, brodées ou frangées, on privilégiera aussi et surtout de belles matières, comme la soie, pour éviter la faute de goût. Au fil des occasions, l'homme portera cet accessoire de façon décontractée le jour, l'important étant de donner l'impression qu'il a toujours fait partie de sa tenue.

Le soir, il osera tout ou presque, de l'écharpe flottant négligemment sur les épaules à l'étole pointe en avant et nouée sur la nuque ou même le long foulard porté en ceinture de smoking... Et il portera une attention particulière à cette pièce, le risque majeur étant de la voir disparaître... Только тогда из шкафа извлекается неизменный шерстяной шарф, однотонный или в условно шотландскую клетку. Пора вернуть этому незаслуженно обойденному вниманием аксессуару законное место! Он элегантен в любой сезон, нужно только грамотно подобрать форму и цвет к остальной одежде. Шарф можно обмотать несколько раз вокруг шеи, небрежно накинуть на плечи поверх пиджака или даже закутаться, на «этнический» манер, в шаль с индивидуальной вышивкой. Все возможно, было бы желание и соответствующий стиль. В этом сезоне шарф приобретает особое значение. Он становится не только неотъемлемой частью, но иногда и главным акцентом костюма. Очень важно правильно подобрать материал. Тонкий кашемир можно носить как шейный платок, кашемировая шаль потолще (8-10 нитей) с успехом заменит пальто, а для остромодных моделей с вышивкой или бахромой лучше выбирать классический шелк, чтобы не переборщить с экстравагантностью. С дневной одеждой шарф носится с известной небрежностью, он должен смотреться органично в сочетании с другими вещами. Вечером можно себе позволить гораздо больше выдумки: накинуть на плечи широким жестом, повязать треугольником спереди, узлом на затылке или даже перехватить смокинг в талии, как поясом. И присматривайте за своим драгоценным шарфом! А то неровен час, обнаружите его на своей спутнице жизни. Красивая и немного интимная вещь, которую носит любимый мужчина, — как тут устоять…

Managing to convince the legendary John Malkovich to appear in the prelude

Ils ont convaincu le très emblématique John Malkowich d’apparaître en préambule de « We Cut The Night », le dernier album pour lequel ils viennent tout juste d’entamer une tournée internationale. Olivier Coursier et Simon Buret, les artistes du groupe pop-électro Aaron, profitent de cette oeuvre fusionnelle pour revisiter, avec leur sensibilité légendaire, le monde explosif d’aujourd’hui.

A les entendre évoquer leurs parcours, on comprend immédiatement que les deux hommes ont développé une complicité hors du commun. Un premier album en 2007, Artificial Animals Riding On Neverland, leur permet d’aiguiser leur pouvoir créatif, et donne naissance à des oeuvres électriques à la fois magnétiques et chargées d’espoir. Depuis, Ils évoquent l’amour, l’amitié, la détresse avec des paroles vibrantes portées par la voix cassée de Simon Buret.

Olivier Coursier l’accompagne avec sa dextérité onirique, le plus souvent au piano ou à la guitare. On se perd en sensations fortes, tandis que les visions poétiques des deux artistes se dessinent parfaitement en musique.

C’est qu’Aaron apporte avant tout un regard sur la beauté du monde qui nous entoure. Qu’ils chantent la souffrance de U Turn (Lili), un de leurs hits repris dans le thème central du film de Philippe Lioret « Je vais bien ne t’en fais pas », ou qu’ils laissent le piano exprimer toute sa fragilité dans Embers, ils nous rappellent, à l’image de Basquiat ou de Bill Viola, que derrière chaque réalité existe l’espoir de contempler la beauté du monde qui nous entoure, et de faire d’incroyables rencontres. Quoi de plus naturel alors que de s’inspirer du réel pour recréer une musique accompagnant toute la profondeur de l’être ?

Boris Vian l’aurait sans doute admis : quand la magie est présente, il ne tient qu’à nous de la faire durer.

When they talk about their career so far, it is immediately obvious that these two men have developed a form of complicity that goes beyond the norm.

Their first album, “Artificial Animals Riding on Neverland,” released in 2007, allowed them to hone their creative skills, giving birth to electronic works that draw you in and are full of hope. Since then, they have talked of love, friendship and distress with words that vibrate, carried by the hoarse voice of Simon Buret.

Olivier Coursier accompanies him with dreamlike dexterity, usually on the piano or guitar. You get lost among the sensations they evoke, as the poetic visions of the two artists are transcribed in musical form.

Because Aaron makes you look at the beauty of the world around you. Whether they sing of suffering, as in “U Turn (Lili), one of their hits used in Philippe Loiret’s film “Je vais bien, ne t’en fais pas,” or they let the piano express its fragility in “Embers,” they remind us, in the manner of Basquiat or Bill Viola, that behind every reality lies the hope of contemplating the beauty of the world around us and meeting the most incredible people. What could be more natural then than taking inspiration from reality to create music that accompanies the depths of the soul? Boris Vian would have readily admitted it: when magic makes its presence felt, it is up to us to make the moment last.

The area is not the best. But among the wildlife on Paris’s Rue Saint-Denis, one of the most hotly anticipated addresses of the year has just opened its doors. It is the latest venture from Colombian-American trio Carina Soto Velasquez, Joshua Fontaine et Adam Tsou, behind one of the world’s best bar’s, the Candelaria, ranked 12th in the international World’s 50 Best Bars list, as well as the renowned Mary Celeste and Glass in Pigalle. Under the neon light on the corner, Hero slips discreetly into the landscape with its dining bar and upstairs restaurant.

Designed by the New York agency Safari Sundays and largely inspired by street food, the space has an appealing raw urban décor with the scent of concrete and New York’s K-town, lit up yet subdued, transpersed with neon lights. The surprising cocktails are to be ordered perched at the bar, with a preference for those with soju – a trendy Korean rice liquor that here is combined with Mezcal, gin and yuzu or drunk in the traditional way, out of the bottle. The best seats for dinner are the high benches upstairs, which change the tone a little in a pastel-coloured atmosphere fixed on scholarly squared paper. At the centre of the room is a traditional sink to wash your hands. On the menu, chef Mattis Castro, famous for his magical portions at the Mary Céleste, regales us once again with his street food like kimchi for starters, tasty spicy pork rib buns, and the star dish on the menu, the excellent fried chicken with its spicy gochu jang or garlic sauce. The creative desserts – a rarity in Korean cuisine – are a bright conclusion.

Le coin n’est pas des plus famés. Dans la faune de la rue Saint-Denis, vient pourtant de s’ouvrir l’une des adresses les plus attendues de l’année. La dernière affaire du clan américano-colombien emmené par Carina Soto Velasquez, Joshua Fontaine et Adam Tsou, trio à l’origine d’un des meilleurs bars au monde avec la Candelaria,- classé 12ème selon le classement international référent de The World 50’s Best – et déjà bien réputé au Mary Celeste et au Glass à Pigalle. Sous le néon, faisant le coin, leur Hero se glisse discrètement dans le paysage pour recevoir en comptoir à manger avec restaurant à l’étage. Pensé par les créatifs newyorkais de l’agence Safari Sundays, largement inspiré du street-food, l’adresse s’offre un décor magnétique, urbain et brut de brut, sentant le béton, le K-town de NewYork, éclairé, tamisé et percé de néons. Cocktails détonants à commander au comptoir, et priorité au soju – l’alcool de riz fétiche des coréens accordé ici au Mezcal, gin et yuzu - ou dans sa version traditionnelle, en bouteille. La suite se fait perchée. Meilleures places pour diner, les banquettes hautes à l’étage changent de ton, apposent les pastels aux carreaux d’écolier, avec au centre de la salle, le bac traditionnel pour se laver les mains. Au menu, le chef Mattias Castro, connu pour ses portions magiques du Mary Céleste, régale encore avec sa cuisine de rue, un kimchi d’entrée pour les amateurs, des buns au travers de porc aussi piquants que gourmands, et star du menu, le poulet frit excellent à la sauce épicée gochu jang ou à l’ail. Les desserts créatifs, rares dans la cuisine coréenne, font la conclusion éclatante de douceurs.

Hero занимает дом на углу, под неоновой вывеской, и органично вливается в окрестный городской пейзаж. На первом этаже можно перекусить по-быстрому у стойки, на втором расположен ресторан. Разработкой концепции занималось нью-йоркское креативное агентство Safari Sundays. А потому и кухня (по большей части стрит-фуд), и интерьер — городской, простой, с бетоном и неоновыми лампами, — напоминает корейский квартал Нью-Йорка. Внизу, в баре, можно попробовать необычные коктейли и традиционный корейский алкоголь соджу (либо в сочетании с мескалем, джином и соком юзу, либо просто в бутылке). Ужинать лучше наверху, на высоких банкетках. Здесь атмосфера немного другая. Небольшое помещение, светлые тона, стены разлинованы в клетку, как тетрадь, в центре большая старинная раковина для мытья рук. Кухней ведает шеф-повар Маттиас Кастро — его шедевры хорошо помнят завсегдатаи Mary Céleste. В меню корейские «уличные» блюда: на закуску кимчи (для ценителей), вариация гамбургера с острыми — и очень вкусными — свиными ребрышками и гвоздь программы — изумительная жареная курица с пряным соусом кочхуджан или с чесноком. И в завершение замечательные «авторские» десерты, что в корейской кухне редкость.

Since it opened in 2012, the bar at the Bristol has become one of the rare palace addresses to be regularly frequented by locals. From fashion house regulars to the businessmen of the neighbourhood, all hurry to this space created by interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon and owner Maja Oekter. Their idea was to offer a setting like the interior of a chateau, associating Versailles oak flooring, panelling and shelves of English pine, a chimney made of Sienna marble, ochre or leopard print armchairs and duck egg blue sofas from the best fabric houses, the whole illuminated with chic chandeliers and a divine Aubusson tapestry made in 1740.

The magnet-like bar manned by Maxime Hoerth, winner of the Best Barman in France title, offers a cocktail menu built around the great classics. Its specialty is the Old Fashioned – that men’s drink favoured by Don Draper in Mad Men, the new favourite in the bartender community. A few more explosive combinations are also on the menu, like the in-vogue Candy Crush – an accord of gin, nectarine, mint and barley syrup and cranberry juice – or the spicy Smoky Tommy, which marries the bitterness of Picon with tequila, lime and agave syrup perfectly (the recipes are to be found in the excellent “Cocktails”, just published by Solar).

A giant mirrored screen projects pictures, videos and contemporary photography – until the end of January, a programme entitled “Under the concrete lies the sea,” inspired by Beirut and the Mediterranean, is showing. The venue vibrates to the sounds of electro or vintage music from in-house DJs, which works its magic on its guests. From early 2016, a lounge dedicated to cigars and fine cognac will open its doors, sure to add to the venue’s appeal even further.

Depuis son ouverture en 2012, le bar du Bristol est devenu l’une des rares adresses de palace largement fréquentée des parisiens. Des habitués des maisons de mode aux hommes d’affaires du quartier, tous filent dans ce salon mis en scène par le décorateur Pierre-Yves Rochon et la propriétaire Maja Oekter. Leur idée, donner un cachet vie de château au lieu en associant parquet en chêne de Versailles, boiseries et bibliothèques en pin anglais, cheminée en marbre de Sienne, fauteuils à oreilles ocres ou léopard et banquettes bleu canard sorties des meilleures maisons de tissus, l’ensemble éclairé de lustres chics et d’une tapisserie d’Aubusson divine datant de 1740. Magnétique, le comptoir du barman et Meilleur Ouvrier de France Maxime Hoerth sert une carte de cocktails resserrée autour des grands classiques, spécialité Old Fashioned au menu, cette boisson d’homme chérie par Don Draper dans Mad Men et nouvelle favorite de la communauté des barmen, qu’accompagnent quelques breuvages explosifs allant du très demandé Candy Crush – un accord gin, nectarine, sirop de menthe et sucre d’orge, jus d’airelles – au plus pimenté Smoky Tommy mariant à la perfection l’amertume du Picon à la tequila, au citron vert et sirop d’agave (recettes à retrouver dans l’excellent ouvrage Cocktails aux éd. Solar tout fraîchement sorti).

Habillé d’un écran miroir immense diffusant images, vidéos et photographies d’art contemporain – avec jusque fin janvier une programmation intitulée « Sous le béton, la mer » inspirée par la ville de Beyrouth et la Méditerranée -, vibrant des sons électro ou vintage des Dj’s en place, le Bar du Bristol sait charmer son monde et devrait séduire encore avec l’ouverture début 2016 d’un Lounge dédié aux volutes de cigares et fins cognacs.

Интерьер выдержан во вкусе старинного замка: дубовый паркет-версаль, деревянная облицовка стен и книжные шкафы из английской сосны, камин из сиенского мрамора, охровые и леопардовые вольтеровские кресла и темно-голубые банкетки, обтянутые тканями от самых престижных поставщиков, роскошные люстры и изумительный оюбссонский гобелен 1740 г. За стойкой бара — Максим Эрт, обладатель почетного звания «лучший мастер Франции». В меню коктейлей нестареющая классика — «Old Fashioned», любимый коктейль Дона Дрейпера в «Безумцах» и новый фаворит барменов, — соседствует с современными находками. Самые популярные — «Candy Crush» (джин, нектарин, мятный сироп на ячменном сахаре, брусничный сок), а если поострее, «Smoky Tommy» (горький ликер «Пикон» с текилой, лаймом и агавовым сиропом). Все рецепты, кстати, можно найти в замечательном новом сборнике «Cocktails» (издательство Solar). На огромном экране мелькают видео и фотографии современных художников. До конца января 2016 г. в центре внимания Бейрут и Средиземное море, в динамической экспозиции «Под бетоном — море». Электронная или винтажная музыка от лучших ди-джеев. Словом, бар Bristol знает, чем порадовать гостей. А в начале 2016 г. откроется еще и лаунж, для ценителей сигар и хорошего коньяка.
