Landen is an all-around athlete who can do all things with her will. The team leader in rebounds and steals, Landen dominates the game with her defense and speed; her impact is felt in all areas of the court. She is dedicated to her team and very disciplined, putting in the work to improve her game and be the best for her team.

Lead the Golden Elks with 10.5 ppg 4.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists. Extremely crafty guard who was able to attack any defense off the dribble or with her shooting from deep. Provided consistent scoring for the Golden Elks through out the season. She was also tremendous on the defensive end of the court (1.6 steals per game). A natural athlete with a complete game all around.

Missed the first 5 games of the season waiting for clearance from a torn ligament in her knee. The 6” junior is a versatile player playing all 5 positions on the floor.

Posted a double-double with points and rebounds in 5 of the teams last 7 games.

Lead the Eagles in average points per game, rebounds per game, assists per game and blocks per game. Shot 53.3% from the floor on the season. She was first team All County two years ago as a freshman.

The 6”1 junior is a defensive presence in the middle of the Eagles defense. She led her team in total rebounds 184 and was 2nd in blocks with 45. Her ability to play inside and out allowed the Eagles to spread the floor to open up the middle. She also led the team in free throw percentage shooting 83% from the line.

Allison made an immediate impact for us as a sophomore. Her scoring ability was an asset for us, as she was our leading scorer in most of our games. She led our team in scoring this season, averaging 12.65 points. Her standout performance occurred against Edgewood when she netted 28 points to help us upset the Rams.

Her scoring prowess drew the attention of opposing defenses. We are excited about the success Allison had in her first year of high school basketball and look forward to improvement in her game over the next two years.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR NAME: LANDEN CAIN GRADE: JUNIOR SCHOOL: TOME SCHOOL Landen has become a top basketball player in the past 2 seasons, surprising teams throughout the county with her speed and court utility. Team leader in rebounds, steals, and total points, Landen’s effort is second to none. If Landen gets an open court, there are few that can keep up with her. Her mindset is to be better every chance she gets, and she is willing to work on all areas of her game. Landen was great leader for the Tome Titans this season, both on the court and in support of her teammates. Her desire to win and tough defense has turned games around for the team. Her tough court presence is balanced by her complete composure; Landen doesn’t get mad, she simply resets and tries again. This focus led to Landen forcing turnovers, and changing the momentum of the game. Landen is not just an impressive basketball player; she excels on the lacrosse field and in the classroom. A junior, Landen promises to be a key player again next year.

Sarah is an experienced guard that proved invaluable for our team this season.

She came in clutch for us with her quickness and scoring ability beyond the arc.

Sarah has the ability to take over a game with her three point shooting, which she did many times this season.

Opposing defenses always need to be aware of where Sarah is on the floor. Sarah’s athletic ability, along with her shooting success, has helped generate much of our success since her freshman year.

Meme is my superstar.

Meme was second in scoring averaging 9 points a game along with 2 rebounds per game 1 assist and 2.5 steals.

Meme continued to improve all season long. Meme starting to really dig in and buy into our coaching. Meme loved belonging to team she embraced that aspect tremendously this season.

Throughout the season we continued to encourage her to launch that 3 ball and her confidence grew each game.

She realize the hard work in practice and training in the summer was finally paying off. Thankful to be her coach.

Katy is our leading scorer and an excellent ball handler. Shared the point guard duties this season. Great on the ball defender who helped lead our team’s stingy defense (only allowing 36.2 opponent’s PPG this year), averaging 3.6 steals per game.

Tough player who never shied away from contact, hustled 100% of the time she was on the court. Great rebounder for her size.

Jules Harris is without a doubt one of the toughest athletes I have ever coached Jules is a leader in the true sense of the word. Never taking credit rather giving it to her teammates. Jules averaged 11 points per game along with 9 rebounds - 1 assist per game also averaging 2 steals per game. Jules does not take plays off on either end of the court. So many intangibles she brings to this team and every team she plays on. She’s an encourager, caregiver, leader (always by example) friend to all and a fierce competitor. Every team should have a Jules Harris on their team.

Emmersen is an all-around basketball player who loves the game. She is a relentless scorer; creating her own shot to find ways to score.

Emmersen led the team in points per game and blocks, proving that she is a force both offensively and defensively. The Titans looked to Emmersen to set the pace, and she did so game after game. She works hard in the off-season to prepare herself for the season, and has no problem putting in the time and effort for the benefit of the team.

COACH OF THE YEAR NAME: SEAN LENZ SCHOOL: BOHEMIA MANOR HIGH SCHOOL After a slow start due to injuries, the Eagles finished the season with a 15-8 record going 8-2 their last 10 games of the season. They defeated every team in the County they faced including every public school team and top two private school teams in the MIL. Coach Lenz led his #3 seeded Bohemia Manor Eagles to a Regional SemiFinals victory over the #2 seed Patterson Mill to face #1 Havre de Grace in the Regional Finals.

At the Regional Finals the Eagles season came to an end in a very close 45-40 loss to the Warriors.

With his top players only being Juniors, the Bohemia Manor Eagles should continue their dominance as Cecil County’s #1 Girls Basketball program in the 2022-2023 Season.

Jayden was an exceptional athlete! He always listened and demonstrated character on the floor in athletic competition in addition to his overall skills and ability in basketball. He is a coaches’ dream. Jayden’s competitive spirit was always displayed in practices and games. As a senior player, he took his teammates under his wings and became the floor leader enroute to a good season in the highly competitive Chesapeake UPBAC Division and the regional finals losing to Fallston, 51 – 50.

Jonas was a starter on varsity his Sophomore year and was the only player on the team this year with any varsity experience. As Captain and was charged with guiding all of the other players with how things are done in our varsity program. After a rough start our team showed marked improvement during the second half of the season and that is in part to Jonas becoming comfortable in his role as a leader and accepting his role as our best player without feeling pressure to perform like it. He blossomed to averaging nearly 20 pts/ game over the final five weeks of the season. including a 33 point effort at home on Senior night.

He is an outstanding young man in every respect and I am so happy he was able to enjoy the kind of year that he had.

Love that boy.

He was the most consistent in the County in both offense and defense. He made teams change their strategy both offensively and defensively. He played all 20 games, including 2 playoff games which was more than any other County team in the playoffs. He was the best player in the County when it came to big men that played both outside and inside. He played hard every game, but was not a nasty player or a player that talked garbage to the opposing team. He was a leader on a team that had to play thru multiple injuries to starting players. He was an all around player that the County should be proud of.

Jeremiah Falko has help lead the Crusaders to a 29-4 overall record this season.

The young sophomore led the state of Maryland in 3 pointers made (90) while averaging 20 points per game against county public schools. He also led the Crusaders in assists (3.9 per game) and steals (2.9 per game) and he played with four others starters averaging over 10 points each per game. Jeremiah is all business on the court, he has a short memory and is ready to compete on every play of both sides of the court.

Austin had an excellent senior season and was the workhorse of the team. Austin led the team in both scoring and rebounds and averaged a double-double for the season with 13.5ppg and just over 10rpg. Austin was able to get to the rim as well as shoot from the outside when needed. Austin was a critical part of our defense for rebounding and was able to play multiple positions on the floor when needed. Austin’s best game of the year was on 2/16/22 when he scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds vs Rising Sun. Always gave great effort and played his hardest until the final whistle!

Jeremy Frock was a solid shooter that could be deadly from the 3 point line when we needed it. He was a good rebounder and provided a strong inside presence when we needed it. It was a shame he got hurt for a few games as he was a great contributor to our team.

Dan was a strong scoring threat throughout the year but really came on strong during the stretch run with two 20 point games over the last 3 regular season games.

The strong scoring is nothing new for Daniel who was a starter from his freshmen year through this his senior season. He could get his own shot and score from both inside and out. Daniel plays with a high basketball IQ and natural ability to score at will.

I nominated Tolu because he showed a consistent desire to be the best! We all knew that Tolu could rebound, block shots, and score at will but the true source of his accomplishments came from his obsession to be better than he was the day before.

He always wanted to guard the best player, take the last shot, and even call the plays because he had the utmost confidence in his team and ultimately in himself. Not only will Tolu be a champion on the court but he will be even more of champion in life because he always believes that he can do more!

Tayvin was my senior captain and brought leadership and effort to everything he touched. He was fire and intensity not only on game night but also at every single workout. Tayvin was a lockdown defender and was always willing and able to guard the toughest matchup we had regardless of position. He could get to the basket against any team and was a willing and accurate passer for his teammates.

Tayvin is simply a coaches dream with intensity, effort and passion for the game.

Jonathan McAndrews is the all-time leading scorer in PCA history scoring 1,170 points, (593 this season), he earned the MIL Conference MVP and led our team to 18 victories and a storied ride all the way to the conference championship. He led our team in points, rebounds, and assists. Jonathan is a phenomenal basketball player, but an even better young man. Me, and all of us here at PCA are extremely proud of what he has done and the legacy he has left on our young school and basketball program!

COACH OF THE YEAR NAME: CHARLES GIVENS SR. SCHOOL: ELKTON HIGH SCHOOL Coach Givens being named Coach of the Year was the perfect choice. In the past 4 years of me being at Elkton Coach Givens has always been hard on us but always has pushed us to do better at the same time. You can tell how much love he has for the game of basketball when he’s coaching. Coach Givens and I started off kind of rough because i wasn’t used to him, and we hadn’t yet built a relationship, but by my 2nd year at Elkton, I learned to listen to what he was saying and not how he was saying it. I learned that he only said what he did because he cared. Coach Givens has always earned his respect around here and I have always tried my best to show it to him because he always tries his best to show it to his players. Everyone Coach Givens has coached will tell you that he was hard to get used to but once you did, you will truly see the person he is and see that he means nothing but good.

He always knew how to make people laugh with his phrases and sayings lol, practice was always entertaining, and it wouldn’t have been a good 4 years at Elkton without him, I will miss Coach Givens when I leave and I want him to know everyone appreciates all he has done and will do for the next class.

A true student of the sport, who is always looking to improve his technique and speed. He has a collegiate work ethic that goes well beyond the practice room. He is a sophomore captain who leads by example with a 43-0 record. He loves to see his teammates succeed and gets pumped up for the dual meet atmosphere. He finished the season with a undefeated mark at states and a state title.

Mason is everything you could ask for in an athlete.

He was voted a captain as a freshman, had a 29-12 record with 22 pins, placed 3rd at UCBACs, was an 1A East Regional Champion, and placed 6th at the state tournament. Mason is the type of wrestler that every coach would be thrilled to have.

He will be the foundation for the future at North East High School and I look forward to watching him grow and continue his success.

Continually improving and standing on the podium at some of the toughest tournaments, Josh will take his place as the future of Bohemia Manor High School Wrestling. Josh will continue learning to lead and carrying on the tradition of expecting good grades and maximum effort on and off mats from his teammates. Josh had an excellent display as a freshman. His confidence and mindset showed that he can beat anybody, including the coach combined with hard work and off season mat time. He will be someone to look out for next year.

Chase shared the wrestling philosophy with his team and always expected 100% attitude and effort from his teammates. Chase has a bright future whether he chooses to continue his wrestling career at the collegiate level or in the military.

Chase has maintained a collective 3.67 GPA throughout his high school career, the definition of Scholar Athlete.

Chase completed a 38-3 run this year, making his 3 year total 98 wins. Chase was the 2022 UCBAC and Regional Champion.

Kyler had a great season jumping from 8-9 in his freshman year to a final record of 24-12 this season. Kyler placed 2nd at the Kent Holiday Tournament, 3rd in the Battle at Bridge, 5th at the Panther Invitational and finally 2nd at the 1A East regional qualifying for the State tournament.

Mike made a huge leap from a 4-12 record as a sophomore to a 21-14. Mike placed 2nd at the Kent Holiday Tournament, 5th at the Panther Invitational and Battle at the Bridge before finally taking 2nd place at the 1A East Regional Qualifying for the State Tournament.

Noah came into the season with high expectations and continued to improve throughout the season making it to the finals in 2 season tournaments. Noah will be competing in Track this spring attempting to make it to State for the trifecta of 3 consecutive sports seasons.

Noah has expressed interest in furthering his education and athletic career in college. He finished the year with a 31-11 record. Noah finished 2nd Place at the 2022 Regional tournament, making it to the State Tournament.

Kameron was a strong leader for our program. He set the tone for each and every practice/match/tournament.

Kam’s loyalty and support for his teammates is the reason why we were so successful as a team this year. He is a staple in our lineup. Kam was a captain, had a 21-10 record, placed 3rd at UCBACs, was a 1A East Regional Champion, and placed in the top 8 at the state tournament. I have no doubts Kam will continue his success into his senior season and look forward to watching him succeed.

A very technical wrestler, whose cool demeanor on the mat is not to be underestimated. He is a professional in the wrestling room with great stamina on the mat. He is a sophomore captain with a 42-5 record, with his only loses coming against state champs, state placers and a ranked Pennsylvania wrestler. He finished his season with a great performance at states, winning out after a quarterfinal loss, to place 3rd.

There was no one more dominant than Ethan this entire season. He is the wrestler you could always count on to get the win for the team.

He embodies everything it takes to be successful in the sport of wrestling. Ethan was a captain, had a 37-4 record with a team record of 30 pins, placed 1st at UCBACs, was a 1A East Regional Champion, and placed 4th at the state tournament. It has been an honor coaching Ethan throughout his career.

James helped build the foundation of what North East is now as a program. He was a leader in the room and always looked to not only better himself, but his teammates as well. James battled through adversity early in the season but came back strong to finish his senior year. James had a 13-9 record, placed 4th at UCBACs, placed 2nd in the 1A East Regionals, and was a state qualifier. It has been an honor coaching James throughout his career.

A freshman wrestler with a very bright future. He is dedicated in the practice room, always asking to see technique again to improve his own. He has a desire to win and a motor that doesn’t stop. He has a 32-8 record and knocked off several ranked wrestlers throughout the season and finally made the rankings himself. He had a great state tournament and after losing his first match came roaring back to go 4-1 and finish in 5th place.

Kali finished the year with a third place finish in the Girls State Wrestling Tournament for the second consecutive season. Kali’s only losses to girls in the last two season have come to two different state champions. This season in coed competition Kali was a valuable member of the team and defeated a Boys State Qualifier during the regular season.

A Junior at Elkton, Michael is the team’s best sprinter and backstroker. At the Regional meet he placed 6th in the 50 freestyle and 5th in the 100 backstroke. At the State meet he placed 10th in the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.26 seconds and 10th in the 100 backstroke in a time of 58.60 seconds breaking the Elkton School Record.

A senior at Elkton, David is a member of the 200 medley where he swam the breaststroke leg and 400 freestyle relay teams that both placed 5th in the Regional meet. At the state meet the medley relay team placed 20th and the 400 freestyle relay that placed 12th.

A freshman at Elkton, Jacob is an all around swimmer who swam the butterfly leg for their medley relay and 400 freestyle teams. He also placed 7th in 100 freestyle at the regional meet and 21st at the State meet in a time of 55.19 seconds.

A senior at Elkton, Lawrence is a member of the 200 medley where he swam the freestyle leg and 400 freestyle relay teams that both placed 5th in the Regional meet.

A sophomore at Elkton, Mattea is an all around swimmer who swam many different events throughout the season. At regionals she swam the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay that placed 3rd and the same relay placed 11th at the state meet.

A senior at Elkton, Alexis rounded out the medley relay swimming the freestyle leg that placed 3rd at regionals and 11th at the state meet.

COACH OF THE YEAR NAME: PATRICK CLINE SCHOOL: ELKTON HIGH SCHOOL Coach Cline is one of the most dedicated people that I have ever had the pleasure of working with in my swimming career. He cares deeply about his swimmers in a way that is unparalleled by any one I have met before or probably will. Bringing a sardonic sense of humor and a deep knowledge of the sport, he encouraged every kid that entered the water to do their best. No matter what their skill level was coming to the team, Cline’s end goal was to make them better by the end of the season, and he always did. He not only held each and every one to high standards, but he held himself to those high standards as well. Coach Cline hand wrote each practice to be tailored to exactly what the team as a whole needed to work on. He even let me write a practice once, for which he told me, “I never write a practice for my swimmers I wouldn’t do myself.”, which is really, at the core, who Cline is as a coach. He understands that the swimmers are people too, and not only does he know that, but he respects it.

Nina is one of Bohemia’s most talented 10th grade archers.Despite only shooting for one season prior to this one she had emerged as a solid state contender for the title at this years state tournament. Already posting 5 top 3 finishes and claiming 2 tournament titles there’s no doubt that she will not only help her team win the team competition but also put herself in a position to compete in Nationals.

Armani is considered Bohemias most versatile female archer excelling in both Bullseye and 3D competition.

Boasting a top score of 280 in Bullseye and 278 in 3D she will be a force to reckon with at the state tournament.

Perhaps Armani’s greatest strength is her ability to consistently place in the top 5 for every event making her a most valuable contributor to the team score.Finally Armani has a gift of mentoring and coaching others.

Despite only shooting one previous season 2 years ago Audrey maintains an average score of 278 for the 4 tournaments she competed in so far this year. She has a best score of 283 and has landed in the top 10 of every contest. Primarily a Bullseye target shooter she has expanded her skill to shooting 3D. Her score will be welcomed as Bohemia Manor seeks it’s first ever Team State title.

Most residents of other parts of the County do not even know Bohemia Manor has an Archery Team. The team must travel to all their events as there are no other programs yet in Cecil County for them to compete against. Coach Smith has not only developed a highly respectable High School Team but has built an equally amazing Middle School Team which is ranked in the top 100 in the Nation. He is passionate about the sport and dedicated to his athletes success.

SYTIEIA BROWN DOMINATES SHOT PUT EVENT AT MPSSAA STATE FINALS

On February 16th, Elkton sophomore Sytieia Brown won the State Title in the 4kg shot put at the MPSSAA 2A State Indoor Track and Field Championships. She threw 38 feet and four and a half inches, securing the title by three feet and three and a half inches.

This marks Brown’s first time competing in the indoor state championships.

The sports blog had the opportunity to interview Sytieia Brown on her recent victory! Brown says that she was first led to track and field through soccer. When playing soccer, Brown wanted to build endurance for her position as a striker. She started her track career with the Baltimore City White Knights. She first started throwing in 2017 at age 12 when her

track coach saw that she had talent in the throwing events.

Brown’s high school career started with a bang; she won both the 2A State outdoor shot put and outdoor discus, setting school records in both events. For the indoor season, however, the indoor shot put would require different training. Shot put is a very precise event, involving the shot put being held on a person’s neck.

You can’t step outside or hit the edge of the shotput circle, as that would result in a foul. State competitions often involve three throws to start the competition and qualify for finals. If a thrower qualifies for finals, they throw another three times to attempt to throw further than their qualifying throws, where their furthest mark from all six throws is scored. Although the indoor shot put is run like the outdoor shot

put, Brown explained that indoor training is more technical.

It involves working on the form of shot put, as supposed to the repetition of the throws, which Brown works on in the outdoor season.

Brown’s win at the State Indoor Championships is especially impressive as she was recently recovering from a fractured hip. She is very excited for the upcoming outdoor season, where she anticipates competing against new competition and seeing how her team can grow and win. She is excited to compete in not only shotput and discus, but also the 4x100 meter relay, her favorite event.

Brown loves the competition that track provides, as well as the community and support system it brings. She says she loves how in track, people

you don’t know will congratulate you on your events. Although she is only in 10th grade, Brown plans to continue her track career by throwing and running in college while pursuing a degree in sports science.

Sytieia Brown would like to thank her Mom, Dad and three sisters for supporting her. Her father coaches her in throwing, and her younger sister Talia is a manager for Elkton’s track team. She would also like to give a shout out to her boyfriend, Torien Newton, for being her biggest fan. Newton also runs for Elkton’s track team, and qualified for Indoor States in the 55 meter dash, 300 meter dash, and 4x200 meter relay. Brown would like to thank her math teacher, Gabriel Sherrod for supporting her, believing in her, and always pushing her, and would lastly like to thank Dimitri,

another manager of the Elkton track and field team.

Brown has ample advice for those interested in joining track and field, and those interested in throwing shot put or discus. She says to take your time with the events, and to work on self improvement before worrying about wins. She advises not to beat yourself up, and to work on your form.

Congratulations to Sytieia Brown for her sucess at the MPSSAA 2A State Indoor Track Championships! Elkton’s outdoor track and field season starts on March 22nd at Elkton High School, against Bo Manor and Havre De Grace. Track fans, get ready for an amazing outdoor season!

Sytieia is one of the most driven, focused, hard working athletes I’ve come across. The discipline she has towards track and field is impeccable. She’s fought through a rough, unorthodox indoor season battling injuries and came out on top, taking the Region (3808) and State championship (38-04.5) in shot put by four feet each time. She is now an Outdoor 2021 and Indoor 2022 State champion and she’s only a sophomore! Her dedication to the sport shows that there’s even more she has to give.

We are so proud of Brin! She knew exactly what she wanted out of this season and made it happen. Even with limited practice time, she improved and set a new school record every meet. Watching her clear 5-2 at States was incredibly exciting and a testament to her determination and focus. Brin’s energy radiates to the rest of our team, encouraging everyone to work hard and find success.

Lily finished a stellar career as a pole vaulter. A two time indoor regional pole vault champion (‘20; ‘22), Lily was the highest placing individual girl by finishing in 4th place at the State meet. She has placed twice in the top 6 in her career.

Anna completed her high school indoor career by finishing 7th at the State meet in the 55h in 10.70 seconds (10.49p). She also contributed to a 7th place finish in the 4x400 relay.

Amanda Callaghan (Mandy) is a junior who is the glue to our team. Not only COULD we put her in 10 events in a meet, she’d be willing to compete in them all and would be successful. She’s academically stellar, a true team leader, and a fierce competitor. Her future, on and off the track, is very bright.

Katelyn Lacey is our team fighter. Regardless of the situation, Katelyn always shows up and gives 100% effort with 0 excuses. As a sophomore, she will be one of our squad leaders for spring. Her leadership and competitive drive inspire all of us daily.

Savannah Lacey is new to running at RSHS this year.

She is a junior and is also an accomplished equestrian athlete. She was a top scorer on our xc team this year, did great this winter qualifying for States, and we are looking forward to seeing her compete this Spring.

An incredibly gifted athlete who channels her ferocity into her daily training. Her willingness to work hard accentuates an innate cardiovascular ability that she regularly dishes out in workouts and races. Katie has a tenacity that can’t be taught, but one that is learned only through sheer will and fearless abandon.

A young athlete with much success ahead of her. Carrying over what she accomplished during cross country, Skylar has complemented that experience with a focused drive this winter. She has grown beyond naive timidness to seasoned poise.

Not afraid to lead in races, her boldness will establish competitive races for years to come.

Day Leone is one of those names that should be mentioned in the same breath as the greatest athletes to compete in Cecil County.

Beyond bettering himself, his commitment to excellence extends to his teammates and competitors. One of the few high school athletes who treats their sport as a lifestyle, Day understands the commitment necessary to excel at the highest level. A truly special individual who has unfinished business to conquer.

David Greenplate is our team Eagle Scout. As a junior, David has been high jumping for 3 years, and is our boys’ team leader in high jumping. He is dependable and encouraging to others and a huge asset to our team.

Daniel had a great indoor season this year. With limited practices, he was able to place well at regions and was only .4 seconds away from qualifying for states! Daniel is always pushing himself to be better, never settling and never content with his current performances. Every practice he works hard, chasing his goals, while being a positive and supportive teammate. We are so proud of Daniel!

Michael helped his team pace 2nd as a team at the 2022 indoor regional meet where he qualified for the State meet in three different events. After only competing in the pole vault three times, Michael became the regional champion at 9’ but outdid himself when he vaulted a lifetime best by over a foot to place 5th In the state with a height of 10’6”.

As a first year competitor, Ty climbed the school record books. He finished as the 3rd all-time junior (5th overall) in the 55 hurdles (8.62). Also, Ty finished 3rd and 8th at the regional and state meets, respectively.

Doug is the type of athlete that every coach wants on their team. He’s a great student, he comes to every practice, consistently works hard and leaves it all on the track every time he competes… and he’s talented!

He’s a Regional qualifier in the 55m (7.07), 300m (39.9) and State top eight and six finisher in the 4x200 and 4x400 relays. He portrays great sportsmanship and responsibility as one of our team leaders. He runs and leads with heart, because of that, his teammates look to him and know they can count on him.

As a first year track athlete, Langston has excelled tremendously. He’s a natural talent who has so much untapped potential. He’s a Regional qualifier in the 500m (1:15.17), 800m (2:28.83), and was on the sixth place finishing 4x400 relay team at States.

A true competitor, Sam’s times and performances he put up this season are the culmination of four dedicated years of testing and pushing the limits placed on him as a freshman. He is the perfect example of how hard work eventually pays off in this sport; struggling to run 9 minutes in the mile as a freshman, Sam is now well under 4:50. Such a result is simply a testament to the work he was willing to do. This is a hard, but wellearned accolade for a gifted young man.

Brigdon Bishop is a sophomore and first year jumper at RSHS. While he has jumped higher at practice, he tied as our lead jumper in competition. We are super eager to see him develop as an athlete at RSHS.

COACH OF THE YEAR NAME: STEPHEN PIZZULLI SCHOOL: BOHEMIA MANOR HIGH SCHOOL Pizzulli is a mentor for everyone on the team in more than just running; he is someone that the kids on the team look up to. No matter what, he always treats us with respect, and as mature young adults not just as high school students. This respect extends to our training. Regardless of whether you are the fastest or the slowest runner on the team, he always gives the team similar workouts and keeps the team together.

One of his favorite phrases is “greatness is a lot of little things done right.”

He inspires us to apply this in all facets of life; he advocates following the right process and not taking shortcuts. He teaches us that our sport is more than just running, that there are reasons behind our training. Pizzulli is more than just a coach for all of us and has impacted our lives for the better
