TRANSPORTATION Students attending PRMS will board bus at CMSW at 8:20 AM to be transported to PRMS CMSE students will walk to school, accompanied by a care staff between 8:15-8:25 AM

Art & Creativity Vanessa Merry moved to Florence, Italy, at age 18 to study painting, drawing, and printmaking at Palazzo Spinelli before continuing her artistic training in France, where she focused on figure studies and Plein Air painting. She later earned a degree in Visual Arts and Art History from the University of Minnesota. An active member of the Twin Cities art community, Vanessa has received multiple awards for her paintings, served as President of the Robbin Gallery, and is currently on the staff of WARM (Women’s Art Resources of Minnesota). While she enjoys creating art in many styles, her greatest passion is sharing her knowledge and inspiring others through teaching.

Sourdough became popular over the last year as a healthier alternative to regular white or whole wheat bread. Although it has comparable nutrients, the lower phytate levels mean it is more digestible and nutritious. The prebiotics also help to keep your gut bacteria happy, and it may be less likely to spike blood sugar levels. Four Famous Ethnic Cookies

Learn to create the rolled Norwegian cookie, Krumkakes, made with cream, butter and cinnamon or sometimes flavored with vanilla. Italian Pizzelles are also baked on the top of the stove using an iron but are a flat, anise-flavored cookies sometimes flavored with vanilla. The chewy, almond Swedish Sandbakkels are delicate golden brown in color and are baked in tiny tins to resemble tarts. Cooking & Nutrition Ploy Khunisorn is a native of Thailand. She went to Suan Dusit International Culinary School while she was working as a financial analyst in Bangkok. She came to the USA to earn a Master of Liberal Arts in Sustainability at Harvard University and a Master of Education at Cambridge College. She started teaching cooking classes in 2014. Having traveled to over 30 countries, she has enjoyed and learned to cook a variety of cuisines around the world. In her 9+ years of teaching experience, Ploy has taught over 6,000 students to cook and bake Asian cuisines, vegan food, gluten-free diets, pastries, and more. She also teaches in-person and online cooking classes for community adult education and community colleges.

Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the Hippo, and the hilarious penguins as they escape New York’s Central Park Zoo for the adventure of a lifetime in Madagascar. Filled with memorable characters, exciting songs, and plenty of laughs, this production is a fun way to build confidence, make new friends, and experience the excitement of live theater. From this starting point, they will design a futuristic city with innovative solutions to some of today’s most pressing sustainability issues. Youth in Government

Grades 8-12 Eastern Carver County Schools is expanding our student delegation for Youth in Government (YIG) this fall! This is a hands-on civic experience for students to step into the roles of legislators, lawyers, judges, lobbyists, or cabinet members. You’ll meet throughout the fall to prepare for the four-day state model government conference in January 2027, where you’ll debate real issues, pass youth-created laws, and lead with your values. YIG is great for resumes and college applications but goes much further than that! It will equip you with leadership skills and the ability to advocate for change you believe in. There is a delegation fee of $50 as well as a registration through the YMCA that will be paid through a combination of grants, fundraising, and self-pay options. Early Intervention Birth through 3 years

Provided within the child’s natural environments, these “Routines-Based Interventions” are based on the child’s daily life and are guided by your family values and priorities. Families are coached in strategies to help improve developmental areas such as cognition and communication, as well as social, motor, and self-help skills. The staff will work with the caregivers to provide training that allows those caregivers to develop their child’s abilities.

Preschool Special Education 3-5 years

Our program strives to help young children interact successfully with friends and family at home, in the community and at school. To achieve this goal, the ECSE staff work as partners with the parents and teachers. Eastern Carver County Schools provides a full continuum of special education and related services depending on each student’s unique special education needs and the goals determined by the student’s Individual Education Planning (IEP) team. Services are provided in the least restrictive learning environment which is appropriate for the individual student.

Family School

The family literacy program provides parent/s and their children access to the exciting world of learning and opportunities. Our goal is to build literacy skills across generations and help families acquire the tools they need to grow and thrive. Families with children 8 weeks – 5 who are interested in learning English are encouraged to apply. Parent/s attend with their children four days per week in the afternoon. Adults will have time to focus on personal educational needs as well as parenting education opportunities. Children will enjoy quality age appropriate learning.

Ed•e -- a mobile community connection Now available for rental!

Eastern Carver County Schools’ Community Education and district Transportation Department have partnered with Carver County Public Health to create Ed•e. The repurposed bus will serve as a mobile community connection – bringing educational enrichment, learning opportunities and some health services to Carver County families and residents where they live – right in their own neighborhoods.

A substantial grant from UCare made it possible to transform the bus, which was donated by Positive Connections, into a mobile learning and meeting place. The renovated bus includes access to broadband Internet, smart tv screen, small group meeting space, workspaces and chairs. Ed•e is equipped with a wheelchair lift, a generator and HVAC system for year-round use.

SCHOOLREPORT A MESSAGE FROM SUPERINTENDENT DR. ERIN RATHKE As summer begins to wind down, I want to extend a warm welcome to the 2026–27 school year! We are excited to welcome our students, families, and staff back for what promises to be another outstanding year in Eastern Carver County Schools. While many people think of summer as a quiet season, it is one of the busiest times of the year across our district. Our custodial, maintenance, transportation, nutrition, technology, and administrative teams have been working diligently to prepare our schools for the first day of classes. From shining hallways and preparing classrooms to maintaining our fields and grounds, every detail is carefully planned to ensure our students are welcomed into safe, engaging, and inspiring learning environments.

FUTURE FORECAST 2036

As we look ahead, we are excited to launch our Future Forecast 2036 initiative, a collaborative effort to envision the future of Eastern Carver County Schools. Over the coming year, students, parents, staff, community members, and district leaders will come together as part of our Future Forecast 2036 Input Team to explore opportunities, consider emerging trends, and help shape the future direction of our district. We are deeply grateful for those who have committed their time, expertise, and perspectives to this important work. Together, we will build on our strong foundation while imagining new possibilities that ensure ECCS continues to provide exceptional opportunities for students for years to come.

STRATEGIC PLAN REPORTING: VISION CARD The Vision Card is one of Eastern Carver County Schools' accountability tools that track progress on our strategic plan. The Vision Card demonstrates district-wide results and connects each department and school improvement plan to our overall goals. THE ECCS DIFFERENCE Families choose Eastern Carver County Schools for a reason. Maybe it’s the intentionality with which our communities built and supported a district of smaller schools – including two traditional high schools – that allows for more opportunities for students and closer relationships between staff and students. EYE ON ECCS: COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS INVESTMENT Among key strategic investments this year is the introduction of Maia Learning to our secondary buildings to improve college and career readiness across the district. This shift, supported by the hiring of two additional school counselors, provides a consistent, high-tech solution for students to set goals and create actionable post-high school plans. Maia Learning features comprehensive personality and career assessments to help students identify strengths, interests, and ideal work environments. These tools, including personality tests and interest profilers, guide students in exploring suitable careers and creating personalized career plans. “School counselors have implemented Maia Learning in classroom lessons at the middle and high school level as a part of the district's Career and College Readiness Scope and Sequence. Depending on the grade level, students are engaged in completing interest assessments, exploring specific careers, and building college lists through Maia Learning. School counselors are using Maia learning to have 1:1 conversations with all ninth graders to create their 4-year HS academic plan and all 11th graders for post-secondary planning,” said Leah Shanks, Lead Counselor for ECCS. In the 2026-27 school year, parents will have access to their child's assessment results in Maia Learning, which helps to spark conversations about life after high school. Maia Learning will be utilized for the college application process for next year's seniors, while sixth graders will explore how their interests can play into different career paths. “One of the great features of Maia Learning is the ability to use it collaboratively. The high school College and Career Resource specialists use career and interest data in Maia Learning to encourage students to attend panels and events for careers and college visits that students have identified as high interest,” Shanks said. EXPLORING CAREER PATHS Exploring future careers is a valuable part of a high school student’s experience in Eastern Carver County Schools. Students have the option to choose courses from many pathways including business and marketing, computer science, health care, and education and child development, to name a few. Within these pathways, students can learn if a career is right for them, develop marketable skills, and in some cases earn college credit. “My hope for the CRC is that it becomes the go-to space for students to explore 'What’s next?' I know that 'next' looks different for everyone. For some, it’s a university, for others, it’s a skilled trade, a military commitment, or jumping straight into employment. Wherever they are headed, I hope students leave graduation with a sense of purpose and a clear path forward,” CRC Specialist Kelly Macik of Chanhassen High School. Janelle Sperry began hosting career panels for juniors and seniors during WIN (What I Need) time last school year. She’s continued this year with Macik adding them at Chanhassen this year. The panels have been an opportunity for students to hear from professionals and engage with them about their school and career paths. “One of the focuses of the panels is for the students to hear about the various careers that are out there that they may not know about. Students are often only aware of careers and jobs that they have seen or interacted with already, but there is so much more out there!” Sperry said. “We also want them to hear about what these careers truly do day to day, our panelists' paths to their current job (and how rarely is it a straight linear path), the education or training required in these career areas, how to get into the industry, and more.” Sperry had 77 students attend a panel on Engineering, while Law & Government, Health Care, and Finance & Accounting have been other popular panels. At Chanhassen High School, Engineering & Aviation, Health Science, Sales, Marketing, & Communication, and Public Safety were the top sessions. “By bringing in career panels and job fairs, we’re helping students discover their 'why,'” Macik said. “The panelists have been wonderfully honest about their journeys, showing that education and experience often lead to places and opportunities you’d never expect. This has been a huge confidence booster for students who feel pressured to have it all figured out! One of the key takeaways from many of the panelists has been "stay curious." “The students have been very engaged and asking a lot of questions, including what they can do in high school to prepare for a career or get experience now to see if they like it. We use this as a chance to promote courses and co-op opportunities for students to get more hand-on learning. I hope these panels spark excitement for students and their futures, as well as, motivates them to take action now to set themselves up for success. This can be joining a club, changing their course schedule, networking, or volunteering,” Sperry said.
