The Music Services Task and Finish Group report recommended Local Authority Music Services should work together over the next two years with other stakeholders to hold a national instrument amnesty week?.
Providing sufficient number of instruments for young people to engage in music is a considerable concern for Music Services in Wales.
Project objectives / purpose / desired outcome: Increase the supply of musical instruments to schools by asking the staff/public to donate good quality musical Generateinstruments.supportfor the week from a range of high profile individuals and Followingpartners. the pilot we will explore the possibility of encouraging large employers or businesses to hold their own staff musical instruments amnesty.
• Young people/parents or carers of young people who have given up playing / outgrown / upgraded their instruments?
• Older people who don’t play any longer or who’ve inherited an instrument?
The Cabinet Secretary for Education has asked Welsh Government officials to take forward the recommendation. The intention is to announce the week in May/June in a joint launch with the Llywydd in the Senedd, hold a pilot amnesty for Welsh Government and Assembly Commission staff in June and hold the national music instrument amnesty after half term in October/November. This amnesty is one element of a boader package to improve opportunities for pupils to participate in music and a National Endowment Fund for Music (being taken forward by the Arts Council for Wales) will be formally launched in November.
Target audience: Pilot project will be Welsh Government staff and National Assembly staff. The amnesty week will be targeting the general public
