Optimum Rolls Out Fiber to Home Network in Buildings 3, 4 and 5A&B on July 17 Starting on Monday, July 17, 2023 Co-op City’s Optimum subscribers in Buildings 3, 4, 5A and 5B will be able to start migrating to Optimum’s Fiber Internet service from their existing Hybrid-Fiber Coax (HFC) network, free of charge. Eligible Co-op City Homeowners Share $700K in 2023 STAR Credit BY ROZAAN BOONE Five thousand, two hundred and eight Co-op City households that applied for the New York State School Tax Relief (STAR) program shared approximately $700,841.16 when the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance made the disbursements earlier this year. Basic STAR recipients received $97.00, and Enhanced STAR recipients, $215.67. Next Steps for Federal Student Loan Borrowers Following SCOTUS Decision BY BRANDON ORTIZ
President Joe Biden announced the next steps for federal student loan borrowers following last week’s U.S. Supreme Court decision to block the President’s original student loan forgiveness plan. If the original plan had been approved, borrowers under a certain income threshold would have received a one-time debt relief of $10,000 or $20,000 depending on if the individual was also a Pell Grant recipient. Instead, the President announced two separate steps focused on delivering GHEW UHOLHI DFFRUGLQJ WR DQ RI¿FLDO :KLWH +RXVH SUHVV UHOHDVH ,Q WKH ¿UVW VWHS 8 6 6HFUHWDU\ RI (GXFDWLRQ 0LJXHO &DUGRQD EHJDQ WKH SURcess of implementing a “negotiated rulemaking committee to prepare proposed regulations for the Federal Student Aid programs authorized under title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.” Notable programs created under the Higher Education Act include the Pell Grant and Stafford Loan programs.
