Corey Padron Administrator The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) was created to provide timely, integrated, and coordinated responses to emergencies. The OEM implements the four phases of emergency management: » Mitigation » Preparedness » Response » Recovery These actions aim to protect the safety and well-being of Tlingit & Haida’s employees, clients, citizens, communities, and neighboring communities.

The OEM serves Tlingit & Haida’s 21 recognized communities and is funded through the Bureau of Indian Affairs Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and will continue to be funded beyond COVID-19 through Compact funding and other Federal Emergency Management Agency grants.

2021 Highlights

ƒ Developed and disseminated a COVID-19 Mitigation Plan for all employees. ƒ Distributed over $500,000 in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to employees, clients, tribal citizens, and neighboring communities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. ƒ Participated in Valdez Rural Resiliency workshop. ƒ Coordinated Employee Vaccination Incentive program; over 150 employees were vaccinated. ƒ Hosted a tour of the Tribal Emergency Operations Center with the U.S. Coast Guard and new

Command staff. » Developed a memorandum of agreement with the U.S. Coast Guard to access and utilize their marine radio frequencies and to formalize a commitment to further developing partnership. ƒ Established regular COVID-19 testing sites and hosted vaccination clinics for employees in Juneau,

Alaska, and provided at-home testing kits to all employees by request. ƒ Responded to 14 regional emergencies (five food distributions, four Search and Rescues, four water crises, and one PPE

Delivery). ƒ Initiated a work plan to provide an internal guidance structure to meet or exceed Federal Occupational Health and Safety standards. ƒ Completed occupation site inspections at the Alaway and

Vocational Training & Resource Center properties. ƒ Secured, delivered and set up temperature kiosks in all Tlingit &

Haida buildings. ƒ Coordinated the installation of plexiglass sneeze guards in reception areas at Tlingit & Haida properties.

2022 Goals

ƒ Collaborate with recognized communities to help develop eight small community response plans. ƒ Develop and host four community partner public safety meetings. ƒ Establish contact and offer assistance within 12 hours to all regional disasters and search and rescue efforts, including Seattle, San Francisco, and Anchorage.
