GROUP GOES BEYOND TO EXPRESS CREATIVITY

LOCAL textile and fibre artists from community group Stitching and Beyond have been busy weaving baskets, stitching quilts and sewing clothes for the biennial Out of Hand Exhibition.

Stitching and Beyond, which has about 136 members across Tasmania including in the Glenorchy municipality, was established in 2005 to celebrate the work of artists who explore innovative and diverse approaches to fibre and textile arts.

To celebrate the creativity of its members, the group is hosting its biennial exhibition at the Long Gallery from 22 September to 4 October.

Out of Hand Exhibition coordinator Karen Stack said it would showcase the diverse talents and abilities of a diverse range of people.

“People in our group have such varied talents,” she said.

“We don’t cover just quilting or embroidery, it encompasses a lot of things.

“People are so helpful in sharing their ideas and what they know, as well as encouraging you.”

The exhibition will include woven baskets, embroidery items, quilts,

shoes, bags, books, costumes, work from paper makers and artists, plus many more wares.

The exhibition will also include challenges pieces from 2020 and 2021 in the side space gallery.

The challenge pieces were based on a theme, with 2020 being about the theme of ‘Emerge’ and the 2021 theme being ‘Black and White + One’.

“It’s amazing the variety and number of pieces we’ve got just based on Black and White + One because you can interpret the one as either being an object or a colour – the possibilities are endless,” she said.

“Hopefully we’ll also have some people working in the space, so people can see the progress that we go through.”

Stitching and Beyond members meet once a month at the Kingston Library – Learning Centre, 8 Hutchins Street, Kingston for share and tell.

“People will show us what they’ve done and we have a bit of a talk about that, and if someone wants to show us a technique, we’ll spend some time doing that,” Stitching and Beyond committee member Jude Walker said.

“People join for the company and the like mindedness – we all enjoy doing the same things.

“We’re creative people and we like to share, teach and learn.

“It’s nice to show our stuff to other people and then get feedback.”

Entry is free, but a gold coin donation is welcomed.

St Vincent de Paul is desperate for donations of non-perishable food and other essential items, and Ms Johnston has made her electorate office in Glenorchy available as a collection point.

“Winter is a terribly difficult time for many people, especially those

who find themselves in situations where they cannot afford to buy food or simple things like soap and toothpaste,” Ms Johnston said.

“Tasmania is in the midst of a housing crisis, and it’s not just those living on the streets that can’t afford to eat.

“There are people and families out there who don’t have any money

left to put food on the table once they pay rent, electricity, water, medications and other essentials.”

St Vincent de Paul is looking for donations of non-perishable items such as canned soup, fruit, long-life milk, pasta and breakfast cereal, along with personal products like shampoo, razors, soap and toothpaste.

Photography competition provides snapshot of Mental Health Week

AS part of Mental Health Week, Glenorchy Library and the Glenorchy City Council are running a photography competition with the theme being ‘Belonging, Awareness, Connection’.

The competition will have a professional and amateur category to encourage people of all abilities to enter.

Entries opened on 1

September and close 30 September, with voting open to the public during Mental Health Week in October.

Mental Health Week runs from 9 to 16 October and aims to engage communities in activities that promote mental health and wellbeing.

It also aims to increase understanding and

reduce stigma about mental illness.

“The photography competition is a wonderful way to

express yourself and bring focus to positive life experiences,” Glenorchy Library community learning coordinator Terri

Maher said.

“Grab your phone or camera and get thinking about how you can capture Belonging,

Awareness, Connection.”

TEAMING UP TO SHINE A LIGHT ON MENTAL HEALTH WEST Moonah Community House and Rotary Health are hosting their ‘Shine a Light on Mental Health’ Wellness Breakfast on Thursday 7 October with a special guest set to talk about their experiences.

Australian of the Year and advocate for survivors of sexual assault Grace Tame will talk at the event about how under Tasmania’s sexual assault victim gag laws, she couldn’t legally speak out

about her experience – despite the perpetrator and media being free to do so.

“Grace has demonstrated extraordinary courage – using her voice to push for legal reform and raise public awareness about the impacts of sexual violence,” West Moonah Community House assistance manager Kaye Marskell said.

“Come and hear this courageous woman as she

speaks of a problem that won’t go away unless it’s discussed.”

The event will be held at Gleny Albyn (380 Channel Highway, Taroona) from 7am to 9am.

Tickets cost $70 per head and include a hot breakfast.

A discount applies for a table of 10.

A silent auction will also be held.

Funds raised from the event will go towards

employing a counsellor at the West Moonah Community House and towards research projects at University of Tasmania.

THE annual Northern Suburbs Photography Competition has started accepting entries.

In its sixth year, the competition highlights the spirit and diversity in the community.

“It is something that everyone can be a part of,” Labor Member for Elwick Josh Willie said.

“It’s a great way to

celebrate our community, and every year, it just gets bigger and better.”

The competition is open to all residents living within the Glenorchy municipality, with winning entries in the major categories to be selected by winners from the previous years.

Prizes will be offered for senior and junior

categories as well as the people’s choice, which will be voted on by the Facebook community for the first time.

There is also the chance to be featured on Mr Willie’s 2022 calendar.

“Whether you are a keen photographer or have a memory storied on your phone, I

encourage you to enter,” Mr Willie said.

The competition is open until 27 September 2021, with the winners to be announced at a community event at the Multicultural Hub on 29 September.

FLOWER SHOW BLOOMS FOR SPRING THE Hobart Horticultural Society is inviting the community to attend its 2021 Spring Flower Show to enjoy the pleasures of viewing dozens of vases and exhibits of glorious Spring blooms.

The show will be

held on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 September at the Hobart Town Hall, and will showcase jonquils, daffodils, camellias and many other Spring blooms.

The show theme for this year is ‘The Carnival of the Animals’, a light-

hearted suite of 14 movements by French composer Camille SaintSaëns from 1886, and young musicians and singers are encouraged to perform a part of it.

New clubrooms for historical military society

Historical Arms and Military Society of Tasmania members with Independent Member for Clark Kristie Johnston.

THE Historical Arms and Military Society of Tasmania (HAMST) has opened its new clubrooms at the disbanded Glenorchy RSL Bowls Club and accompanying grounds with support from Glenorchy City Council.

HAMST president Stephen Denholm said the society, which has more than 100 members, was actively involved in the community, reliving military history through stories, reenactments, displays and commemorations of significant events.

“The move into the new clubrooms enables HAMST to have a

permanent home to house all our militaria artefacts and vehicles under one roof,” he said.

“We intend to develop a permanent display for the general community to examine and appreciate on specific HAMST open days throughout each year.

“The clubrooms are comfortable and spacious, and HAMST is keen to share the facilities and have already secured regular tenants – HAMST is keen to expand this to other likeminded groups.”

Mr Denholm said the new clubrooms would benefit the society as

well as the individual members.

“The consolidation of HAMST into the new clubrooms is significant as it will allow the society to continue to grow, expand and attract younger members of the community, ensuring the memory and sacrifice of those who have gone before them are never forgotten,” he said.

Independent Member for Clark Kristie Johnston opened the new club, unveiling a plaque with Mr Denholm and Member for Lyons John Tucker.

“It’s very important the sacrifices of our brave men and women are

never forgotten and with the opening of these new clubrooms there is now a permanent home to preserve and promote the stories and artefacts for generations to come,” she said.

“The clubrooms were previously occupied by the Glenorchy RSL Bowling Club, but with support and generosity of the Glenorchy City Council, HAMST now has a home where it can grow, expand and potentially attract younger members of the community.”

Bringing Canberra to Holy Rosary Catholic School

DESPITE the Holy Rosary Catholic School’s grade six trip to Canberra being cancelled because of COVID-19, students still got a taste of Federal Parliament when an elected representative from the national capital visited the school.

Federal Independent Andrew Wilkie shared his parliamentary knowledge with students at the school in Claremont, which sits within his southern Tasma-

nian electorate of Clark.

The school’s trip to Canberra, which is a rite of passage for many Tasmanian youngsters stepping up from primary to high school, was not possible this year because of COVID-19 concerns.

An excursion to State Parliament was also called off.

Mr Wilkie spent an afternoon fielding questions from students as part of their democracy unit.

Held in the school hall, the Winter session included a role play covering how a Bill is introduced and debated in Federal Parliament before it becomes law.

“I regularly take classes at schools in the electorate and my annual visit to Holy Rosary has become a highlight in my calendar,” Mr Wilkie said.

“The role play is always fun and a really important opportunity for the

students to see and learn about the functioning of a parliament.

“Last year and this year, the role playing was particularly important because the Holy Rosary trip to Canberra was cancelled on account of COVID. “I especially applaud the school staff, who go to some considerable trouble to ensure the event goes off every year without a hitch.”

NATIONAL TILES OPENS NEW SUPERSTORE IN CAMBRIDGE NATIONAL Tiles, one of Australia’s most iconic tile, timber and stone retailers, is set to make its mark in Hobart with the opening of a flagship showroom and trade mega store in Cambridge.

When National Tiles’ founder Frank Walker first launched the business in 1979, he did so with one small store in Geelong West in Victoria.

Fostering Hope beyond National Child Protection Week

By Mary Dickins Coordinator Fostering Hope www.fosteringhope. community CHILDHOOD only happens once and for most of us it’s a time of fun, learning, growing, exploring and dreaming about growing up.

Tragically in Tasmania, around Australia, and around the world some children grow up in families where their parents are unable to keep them safe.

The first two weeks of September bring light to both the need to protect childhood and to celebrate foster and kinship carers who step into children’s lives to be a family for them.

This isn’t a time for blame or shame, these weeks are times to reflect on childhood and what it means to be a kid and what kind of world we want our children growing up in.

Recently the Tasmanian Government released its strategy “It takes a village” and reflected on the importance of family and community for our children to enjoy childhood and thrive.

The theme for National Child Protection Week is Every child, in every community, needs a fair go and to do this, we need to make sure every family and community has what

kids need to thrive and be healthy.

National Child Protection Week is 5 to 11 September and is quickly followed by Foster Carers Week.

Foster Carers Week raises awareness about foster care in the wider community, and the events held during the week celebrate and appreciate the amazing foster and kinship carers in our community and the invaluable contribution they are making to the lives of vulnerable children and young people and the community.

Both weeks are a chance for each of us to think about the children and families in our communities and if we are offering a village.

It is more than just thinking about addressing child abuse and neglect but thinking about how we can support families before then.

In Tasmania more than 1000 children are growing up in out of home care, that is in foster and kinship care families, and even more are growing up in informal care arrangements.

Foster and kinship carers are regular people in our community who step forward to be a family for a child who needs one.

In Tasmania and nationally, we have a shortage of foster and kinship carers and this is a great time

to consider whether you could be a carer.

Carers can be longterm, respite, or emergency and we need all types!

Being a carer isn’t easy, but an absolute privilege to step into a child’s life for as long as you need to.

Carers can be any age and stage of life, they can be working or home full time, they can own their home or be renting, they can be single or in a couple, they can be grandparents or never had had their own children.

Children need families and you just need to be willing to offer a family for a child.

My husband and I are local foster carers in Hobart. We began fostering when our sons were two and four years old and welcomed a new born into our home, about 17 months later we welcomed his little brother and now we have a home of five boys, two biological and three in care. Fostering is part of our story as my husband’s mum grew up in foster care and it was a positive placement for just three months of her life that helped reshape her identity and changed the trajectory of her life.

Fostering has shaped the lives of all five boys as they see the world around them differently, they understand trauma behaviour and where

this comes from, they see broken families and know this is no one’s fault, but that each person in the fostering journey needs care and community.

Really fostering is just being a family for a child that needs one, we all deserve to know we are lovable and can love others and be able to dream for the future, foster kids

are just regular kids and we can be their family.

Many of you are already playing your part every day – as individuals, as community members, as volunteers and as workers – to help create these great communities for children.

When we do this together we can give ‘every child, in every neighbour-

hood, a fair go’.

New MCMF manager appointed THE Murdoch Clarke Mortgage Fund (MCMF) has appointed former long-term ANZ manager Ben Wallace to manage its $325 million fund.

After 33 years in various roles with the ANZ, including starting as a teller, moving into back office administration, branch management and senior lending roles, Mr Wallace said it was time for a change.

“We (MCMF) are definitely implementing a growth strategy,” he said.

“Both in terms of the number of investors and borrowers we have, as well as the overall fund balance.

“Though we are Hobartbased, we are expanding into the north of the state, and are currently fitting out a Launceston office to be opened in the next few months.”

Mr Wallace said MCMF delivered a more simplified lending process for its borrowers and took pride in providing personal and efficient service to its investors and borrowers.

“MCMF covers off some of the areas that the major banks won’t cover such as Property Development and SMSF Loans,” he said.

“We will provide a loan

of up to 66.6 per cent of the value of residential, rural residential or commercial property, up to 60 per cent of the value of a rural property and up to 50 per cent of the value of hotels or specialised security.

“And we use clear, simple to understand language about what we can and can’t do as well as providing options.

“MCMF loans are

interest only.

“Interest is payable quarterly in arrears, which is good for cash flow.”

Mr Wallace said from an investment perspective, the fund delivered great return on funds.

“At the time of writing, our investment interest rate was 2.47 per cent, which is significantly better than other current rates available in the market,” he said.

Tasmanian Indian community celebrates 75 years of independence THE Tasmanian Indian Community recently celebrated a significant milestone, celebrating their 75th Independence Day, by honouring traditional culture and heritage.

Every year on 15 August, Indians all over the world celebrate Independence Day, and

for greater Hobart, the event was held at the Hobart City Hall.

“For any country, its Independence Day is always a memorable occasion – the day to rejoice in the glory of what their country has achieved and also a day to remember the contributions, battles and

sacrifices of all the people who helped achieve freedom,” Indian Cultural Society of Tasmania secretary Satendra Bhola said.

“This milestone event was attended by around 300 community members along with a number of prominent dignitaries.”

COMMUNITY Based Support (CBS) has received three defibrillator machines for use in its social hubs state-wide.

CBS chief executive officer Allyson Warrington said the defibrillator machines were funded by a major donation from Hobart Friendly Care Pharmacies.

“These first three defibrillator machines will enable us to respond to any emergency situation as they arise in the three locations,” she said.

“We are placing one machine in our main

office in Moonah, the New Town hub and the third in our new hub in Riverside.

“We will also be buying more defibrillator machines to be placed in our Launceston office and Kingston hub.”

Group Pharmacy manager of the Hobart Friendly Care Pharmacies Matt Luciani said the organisation would look to continue to support Community Based Support.

“We identified Community Based Support as an

organisation operating in a sector we support – the more vulnerable in our community, being the aged care and people living with disability,” he said.

“We want to develop a long-term partnership with Community Based Support and our donation was able to provide them with something they needed for their social hubs and office.”

Ogilvie students volunteer at City Mission Op Shops OGILVIE High School students celebrated National Student Volunteer Week in August by volunteering at City Mission Op Shops in Moonah.

National Student Volunteer Week ran from 9 to 15 August, and acknowledged and celebrated the positive impact that student volunteers have on communities.

The students from Ogilvie High School were involved in the Big Picture Program, which is an Australia-wide program that facilitates student directed learning in schools.

Hobart Big Picture Learning has implemented an innovative design for learning.

At the heart of the design is a departure from traditional ‘appointment learning’ where everyone learns the same things according to a fixed timetable inside the four walls of a school.

Ogilvie High School year 10 student Louise Patterson was one of the students involved in the program.

“It was great to challenge myself in doing something new,” Louise said.

“I also learnt how to build displays, dress mannequins and even use the register.

“All these things will be so helpful for me in the future when I try to gain some part time work.”

Hobart City Mission is supported by more than 450 volunteers, most of which work at one of the nine City Mission Op Shops in southern Tasmania.

Hobart City Mission often connects with student volunteers and corporate groups to offer

a unique volunteering experience that provides a way for organisations to give back to their community.

“Volunteering is a great way to connect people from all walks of life,” Hobart City Mission chief executive officer John Stubley said.

Recognising National TAFE Day on 11 August, the Australian Education Union (AEU) hosted celebrations for staff and students at TasTAFE campuses across the state.

AEU Tasmania President David Genford said it was vital to recognise the positive role TAFE played in

the community and the pathways it provided for Tasmanians.

“It’s great to see so many Tasmanians given a career path to follow through TAFE – whether that’s as an electrician, childcare worker, plumber or a hairdresser the opportunities are farreaching,” he said.

SHIPLOADS STORES COMBAT CARDIAC ARREST WITH DEFIBRILLATORS SHIPLOADS has worked closely with St John Ambulance to install Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) in its stores across the state.

There are 13 Shiploads stores across the state, as well as a warehouse and office at Cambridge, with each one now having been installed with an AED. Shiploads managing director Ashley Wilson said a Shiploads store recently had an incident that required the use of a defibrillator, and it highlighted the need for early access to an AED was vital in Shiploads stores.

“We have registered the AEDs with Ambulance Tasmania, so they are available for members of the public, as well as the crew of Shiploads,” he said.

“The easy access app

‘AED Tas’ is a vital link for members of the public to quickly find and access the life-saving support of an AED. “Shiploads values AEDs as another way to assist and connect with the Tasmanian community and urge other businesses to contact St John Ambulance to discuss how an AED can be installed in their business.”

St John Ambulance Tasmanian commercial operations manager Jeremy Bosworth said additional defibrillators in communities were needed.

“With the chance of survival of sudden cardiac arrest dropping, without CPR and defibrillation, at approximately 10 per cent per minute, getting CPR underway and a defib on the chest within

the first three to five minutes is paramount to saving a life,” he said.

“More AEDs in the Tasmanian community equates to more defibrillators within five minutes of a sudden cardiac arrest victim.

“St John Ambulance encourages places of business and residences to contemplate including the provision of a defibrillator for their workforce, customers and wider communities.

“Once in place, opening up the accessibility of their defibrillators by listing them on the ‘Early Access to Defibrillation Program’ is a great way of building community resilience and saving lives.”

With approximately 30,000 Australians dying from sudden cardiac arrest every year, Mr Bosworth said St

John Ambulance was committed to increasing sudden cardiac arrest survival rates and were proud to have launched the St John G5 Defibrillator.

“The G5 Defibrillator uses advanced audio and video to guide first time users to apply defibrillation quickly and correctly,” he said.

“A unique feature of this unit is the Australian accented audio prompts that helps calm the rescuer and ensure instruction is relatable and easy to act upon in a stressful situation.

“The harsh reality is that without effective CPR and the use of a defibrillator, a person in sudden cardiac arrest will not survive, but with defibrillation and CPR they have up to a 70 per cent chance of surviving.”

IN a spectacular display of creativity and talent, more than 150 students from Dominic College performed in a range of dance pieces, concert bands, choirs, and ensembles in the recent Dominic Music and Dance Showcase.

The annual Showcase, held at the Guilford Young Creative Arts Centre, was an opportunity for students to perform in a professional capacity to a large audience to showcase the work they had been undertaking in their music and dance classes throughout the year.

“The work of students was of a high calibre and the Showcase featured their capacity to challenge themselves individually and collectively,” Dominic principal Beth Gilligan said.

Students in years seven to 10 at Dominic College can choose electives of private tuition in a range of Creative Arts.

Specialist teachers and visiting tutors work with students to provide enrich-

ing learning experiences, and help build personal capabilities and skill.

Performances are aimed at both college occasions and participation in Eisteddfods.

The K-10 Faculty of Creative Arts at the college comprises Visual Arts, Music, Drama, Dance and Media Arts.

The Arts are also integrated in the kindergarten and prep curriculum, with specialist music classes commencing in kindergarten.

In years one to six, students have specialist Music and Art in their curriculum.

Specialist Drama begins for students in year three and culminates in a self-devised performance project in year six.

In the year five to six Band Program, every student learns an instrument and plays in a band.

“This model of early specialisation in the arts is possible because the college is K-10 on one site and the benefits of early exposure to the arts has

been particularly evident in our Band Development Program and Drama productions,” Ms Gilligan said.

She said that Creative Arts Scholarships at the year seven entry level provided further opportunities for students who were passionate about the Arts to focus on nurturing their talents under the guidance of experienced and dedicated teachers.

The school also hosted its Biennial Creative Arts Festival, which showcased an exhibition of student visual art and media.

“Last year, the festival was unable to proceed as planned due to COVID-19, but this year it made a confident comeback providing the opportunity for the college to offer a snapshot of the creative activity that occured on a day-to-day basis from prekindergarten to year 10,” Ms Gilligan said.

The Salamanca Arts Centre, the cultural hub of Hobart, became home

to Dominic’s students for a week.

Artwork by students from all years was displayed in the Long Gallery, and the flagship Drama production, traditionally presented in the Peacock Theatre, was ‘Hard Times’ by Charles Dickens.

“This piece was chosen to challenge our performers and also introduce our audiences to the work of the most celebrated storyteller of the Victorian era,” Dominic Creative Arts director Mike O’Brien said.

“It is always rewarding to see young people discover the delights of Dickens as they unpack the complexities and humour of his works.

“The showcase and festival provided excellent opportunities for our students to shine beyond their own community.

“When looking back, many of our students and Old Scholars name this occasion as a highlight of their time at Dominic.”

They may be starting to think about their options for 2022, and deciding whether they’ll go to university, TAFE or maybe even start an apprenticeship.

If they’ll be continuing full time study or training next year they may be able to get a payment from Services Australia.

Youth Allowance is payable to people between 16 and 24 years of age who have finished year 12 and are studying full time in an approved course, or doing a full time Australian apprenticeship.

MALCOLM DENNIS was born in Campbell Town in Tasmania in 1950 and lived

there and in Longford until his dad relocated the family to Hobart in 1958. They settled in Taroona where Malcolm attended Taroona Primary and High School. Sport has played a major part in Malcolm’s life, growing up supporting Sandy Bay Football Club and St Kilda Football Club. His interest in music began in 1964 after he purchased his first record – ‘Have I The Right’ by The Honeycombs. Inspired by the late Ron Fellowes from local band ‘The Black Diamonds’, Malcolm purchased his first drum set in 1966 and performed in many bands until the late 1990s. He commenced presenting at Hobart FM in July of 1998 to express his love of music, playing a selection of music from the 50s through to the 80s on the Tuesday Drive Show from 4pm to 6pm. With a personal library totalling almost 38,000 songs, Malcolm prefers Rock ‘n’ Roll with real instruments, but endeavours to accommodate as many requests as he can.

Lily makes the jump for Heart Foundation NINE-year-old Lily Anning (pictured) has skipped her way to be the fifth highest fundraiser in Australia for the Heart Foundation’s Jump Rope for Heart.

Lily raised more than $3000 through a jump off day at Rosetta Primary School, as well as through selling lemons, cakes, slices and flowers, and an online auction.

Lily said Jump Rope

for Heart was a great way to help raise funds for heart research and programs that saved lives.

“I started skipping four years ago and then I got into raising money the last three years which is really good,” she said.

“It’s important to raise money to help people get their hearts better.

“I’ve enjoyed learning new tricks and it’s good

for your heart.”

Lily received help in her fundraising efforts from family friends Katrina Pailthorpe and Anne Howlett.

The cause was close to the heart for Mrs Pailthorpe, whose mother and husband had both had heart surgery.

Getting into the swing of things at Claremont Golf Club CLAREMONT Golf Club is encouraging members and the local community to work on their short and long game with a beginner friendly come and try session.

The ‘Get into Golf’ program will support and educate Australians to lead active lifestyles through a beginner golf program that combines skill development with course familiarity to take that first shot on the golf course.

Classes are run in small groups for about 60 minutes and have a strong focus on using the game itself to facilitate the learning, rather than just focus on a skill.

Lessons also give participants a chance to be social.

The program provides participants the opportunity to socialise and get to know others, ensuring that everyone relaxes into the

activities and will receive support and feedback.

PGA professional Debra Brinkley will conduct a come and try session on Sunday 12 September at the Claremont Golf Club from 2pm to 3pm, after which refreshments will be served in the club house.

“Get into Golf is the fun, healthy and social way for men and women to get started in golf, and the come and try day is free, with all equipment being provided,” Ms Brinkley said.

“Simply turn up in comfortable clothing, gym gear is acceptable, and softsoled shoes – bring your own clubs if you wish.”

THE Classic Wallabies – an alumni of Australian rugby legends – spent a week in Tasmania engaging with schools and communities as a way to give back to the sport.

Classic Wallabies Digby Ioane and Radike Samo, along with former Wallaroo Shirley Russell, visited various schools across the state, including Austins Ferry Primary School, to take students

through some rugby training and drills.

Mr Ioane said the Classic Wallabies and Wallaroos aimed to grow grassroots rugby across Australia, with Tasmania being high on its list.

“We went around schools and did a lot of drills with schools to show them that rugby is a great sport – it’s not for everyone, but we like to give everyone a taste of

what it is about,” he said.

Ms Russell has been involved with the Australian Wallaroos in both a playing and coaching capacity, and was one of the pioneers of female rugby in Australia.

She said through these

grassroots engagements, she was giving back to the sport by helping it grow.

“We’re very fortunate that we have gained so much from rugby throughout our lives, and we just to impart it back to the people who want to be involved in the game or want to have exposure to the game,” she said.

“Who knows, we might

have future Wallabies and Wallaroos in these Tassie schools.”

The Classic Wallabies and Wallaroos also visited the Claremont Cadbury Factory to celebrate Cadbury’s recent principal partnership with the Wallabies and major partnership with the Wallaroos.
