Life Before, During & After College

s Q FA Want to know more about life on Campus? We’re answering some of the most frequently asked questions about life before, during, and after College:

How do I order the uniform/kit I need for my course? You don’t need to worry about organising anything in advance. If your course requires a uniform or specialist kit, we’ll explain everything clearly when you come in to enrol on your course. This will include exactly what you need to buy, where to order it from, and any key deadlines or requirements.

Will I get to take part in work experience while studying?

Most full-time students will complete a work placement as a core part of their course, ideally with an employer in their chosen industry. It’s best to try and secure your work placement early, and we recommend thinking about this during the summer before your course begins. If you have started your course and are still struggling to find a placement, our Work Experience Team can help you to find a suitable placement.

Can I get help with applying for university, apprenticeships, or jobs? You’ll have access to careers advice and guidance throughout your time at College. Our expert advisers can help you to write your CV, apply for jobs, and find apprenticeship opportunities. If university is your goal, you’ll also receive full support with your application, including UCAS guidance and advice to help you choose the right course and university.

T

for

and Carers

We know that starting College is a big step for both students and their families. That's why we're committed to keeping parents and carers informed, involved, and supported throughout every stage of their young person's journey at Cheshire College.

Our top tips before their first day: Attend an Open Evening together, explore courses and facilities, ask questions, and help your young person to make an informed decision. You're also welcome to join them at their Guidance Meeting to offer extra support and reassurance. Apply early for financial support and free transport. Getting everything in place before term starts will help to ensure a smooth transition to College. We'll let you know when applications open and how to apply. Request evidence of any exam access arrangements before they leave school. Share any evidence (e.g. a Form 8 or Form 9) with our Additional Learning Support Team at enrolment, so we can put the right support in place from day one.

42

Parents and Carers

s Q FA

How will I be kept up to date with my young person's progress? We'll keep you updated throughout their time at College with regular information about their progress and wellbeing. You'll also be invited to online Parents' Evenings and can sign up to our Parent Portal, where you can view their attendance, targets, predicted grades, and other key information at any time. Please note that you can only sign up to our Parent Portal once your young person has officially enrolled at College in the summer.

What should I do if I have questions about my young person’s course? We are always happy to speak with parents and carers to answer any questions and help you understand how your child’s course works. Our Admissions Team can also advise on any steps that need to be completed before their first day, such as ordering a uniform or preparing essential documents. admissions@ccsw.ac.uk
