Whether through legislative advocacy; workforce skills development; creating marketing opportunities for our members to gain more customers or finding ways to help our members save money off their bottom line – working to improve our local business climate is the main driver of everything we do at the Chamber.

Over this past year, we worked in partnership through the Champaign County First group to lead a community delegation for a successful Washington DC Fly-in. We led the Champaign County First efforts on key initiatives including the continued advancement of the High Speed Rail agenda; increasing the frequency of passenger rail; and seeking additional federal dollars to complete the Lincoln Avenue project.

Our continued sponsorship of the Illinois Procurement Technical Assistance Center program has resulted over $5,224,414.17 reported in contracts awarded. 29 companies cited having 104 educational sessions and a total 123.5 counseling hours.

We strengthened our voice for a better business climate and continue to be the only association that will speak for the business community. We tackled several local issues this past year and we will continue to advocate for our members’ rights to run your companies without interference or burdensome costs and regulations.

We served as good stewards of your membership investment and we streamlined our own internal operations to better serve the membership in a more cost effective manner.

As the economy continues to improves and your companies continue to persevere and succeed, please know that it is your perseverance, involvement and support for the Chamber that allows us to continue making positive change for the business community. I thank you for allowing me to serve as your president & CEO. Your stories, struggles and most importantly, your successes motivate our staff to want to serve the membership even more.

MEMBER HIGHLIGHTS “We’ve welcomed over 100 new customers already this year (in addition to 700+ current customers). We’ve introduced a new single cup coffee service in partnership with Columbia Street Roastery. We’re rolling out our new Janitorial Plus program, which will allow customers to save money and time by sourcing more product through a single source.”

- Tonya Horn, President, Rogards Office Plus “The month of October marks the 25th Anniversary of Ramshaw Real Estate. Starting as a 40-apartment property management company, the company has grown to a market leader in real estate acquisitions, development, and sales.”

- Jessica Wright, Marketing Director, Ramshaw Real Estate “Our biggest accomplishment this year was to add two daily contracts to our business. We have partnered with Judah Christian Schools and Circle of Friends Adult Day Care to provide them with lunch on a daily basis and this has allowed us to add two new full time positions.”

Chamber members had the opportunity to “Meet the Candidates.” Nearly 30 candidates were featured and the event was held at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Conference Center.

CHAMBER LEADERSHIP PROGRAM - 01/31/13

Benjamin Lapid Photography spent the day at the Chamber taking member photos.

Over 75 people signed up for the program this year.

OCTOBER

The Chamber developed a new leadership program for young professionals. There had not been a leadership program through the Chamber since the early 2000s.

Seats filled fast for the 10-week course and 28 participants took advantage of this great opportunity.

John Groce, the new, energized Fighting Illini Men’s Basketball coach spent the morning talk to Chamber members about the future of the upcoming season. He was excited to call Champaign-Urbana home. Busey sponsored the Breakfast.

ATHENA AWARD LUNCHEON - 02/21/13

2012 SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR - 10/26/12

The Chamber Annual Meeting was held at Hilton Garden Inn this year. Shatterglass Studios took home the coveted Small Business of the Year Award.

The theme was “Social Media” and the “Call Me Maybe” video presentation was a huge hit nearly 3,000 views to date.

At the luncheon, Bianca Green, founder of Illinois Mediation Services, Inc. was the ATHENA Award Recipient and Laura Frerichs, Director of Research Park at the University of Illinois was the 2012 ATHENA Young Professional Award Recipient.

The event was sponsored by the Chamber and Spherion Staffing Services.

BUSINESS SUCCESS SEMINAR - 03/28/13

The Champaign County Chamber of Commerce partnered with the Rantoul, Mahomet and Champaign County Black Chambers, the UBA and the Champaign Center Partnership to bring Tim Miles, author of “Good Company: ‘Making It, Keeping It, and Being It’” to town. He used common sense, kindness and an unquenchable curiosity as tools to help hundreds of businesses be more successful more quickly. He runs an odd little communications company that helps owner-operated companies do more with less.

MARCH APRIL

Congressmen John Shimkus and Rodney Davis provided Chamber members with business updates on the State and national level. This allowed members to become more informed about issues that may be impacting their business.

SCHMOOZA PALOOZA - 04/10/13

Schmooze (verb): To network and converse casually Palooza (noun): A large-scale party!

Around 1,000 people were in attendance and more than 60 vendors participated and ten restaurants helped cater the event. SK Exteriors sponsored the Power Lunch and BankChampaign, N.A. sponsored the Wine Tasting.

JUNE 2013

COME WINE WITH US - 06/20/13 The event was held at Farm Credit Services of Illinois and sponsored by the Agribusiness Committee. Over 250 people were in attendance along with 24 different sponsors and vendors.

2013 CHAMBER GOLF OUTING - 06/06/13

The Roofing Dog sponsored the 2013 Chamber Golf Outing which was held at Stone Creek Golf Club.

Midland States Bank was the golf ball sponsor, Dish Passionate Cuisine was our lunch sponsor and Rosati’s provided dinner for nearly 100 golfers. The weather was great and the company was even better.
