THE BUZZ: CLUBS

EQUESTRIAN CLUB

Karen Aaron rode front and center on her palomino, Sunshine, through the Fourth of July excitement – crowds, inflatable dragons, band music and merrymakers. Quarter horses as a breed are well suited to minding a task amid distractions, and so they did! Western spirit is alive and well at the Tahoe Donner Equestrian Center, where horses have been part of the landscape for 50 years. Look for Sunshine, an Equestrian Club ambassador, on our trails this summer. She loves to slow and say hello!

SENIOR ALPINE SKI CLUB

The TD Senior Alpine Ski Club are having great times enjoying biking, music and monthly social events. We hope you’ll join us! Sign up at tdski.com.

QUILT CLUB

The Tahoe Donner Quilt Club has finished making the community quilt. The ladies made over 50 quilt blocks, organized the design with sashing strips, put it together with the hand-tie method, and Lydia Stang finished the quilt with binding. We are looking to donate the quilt to a local organization to be used for a family in need or another worthy purpose. The ladies have already decided on a design for our next community quilt. The Quilt Club meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at The Lodge, downstairs in the Alder Room, from 3-5PM. This is a fun group of ladies, and all levels are welcome. We have a show and tell each meeting to share our projects with the members, ask for help, or get advice, and we learn from each other. For more information, contact Marilyn Dundas at md11792@outlook.com.

RUNNING CLUB

Tahoe Donner trails are ideal for running, and Tahoe Donner Running Club is taking advantage! Come join us every Thursday at 5:30PM at the Alder Creek Adventure Center. We have runners of all abilities, and our goal is to explore the huge spectrum of trails that are accessible from the Adventure Center. We are just getting started, but our goal is to build a community of runners and help our participants and members enjoy running the trails, accomplish running goals and have fun. The Alder Creek Cafe is open late on Thursdays, and sticking around for food and drinks is encouraged! More info can be found at tdrunclub.com. Fill out the participant form or become a member to receive emails about the week’s run and other running club happenings.

CRAFTING CLUB

TD crafters gather together the third Thursday of each month – the next meeting at 6PM on August 18 in the Alder Creek Adventure Center clubroom. Meetings feature member-led events to showcase their creations using embroidery, crepe paper crafting, watercolor, knitting, etc. In July, we made felted vessels/ luminaries. In August we are making Cricut mugs. Email tdcraftingclub@gmail.com to learn more.

MOUNTAIN BIKE CLUB

Hello fellow TD Members. It's August, and we are in Full Swing at TD MTB CLUB. We've had some great rides and have several more this summer. Want to join? Go to tdmtb.club. Saturday, August 13 we have the club's annual BBQ and poker ride. If you attended last year, you know the prizes were sweet, and the food was tasty. The Adventure Center was open and served cold beverages to wash it down. Well, we will be doing it again this year and look forward to seeing you there. Join a growing and fun Ladies Ride night on the second Friday of the month at 5PM, followed by food and beverages if you want to keep the evening going. These will go through October, weather permitting. We have skills clinics and rides to other regions scheduled as well. We hope to see you out there. Happy trails!

TD 9-HOLERS CLUB

The 9-Holers have been putting up some great scores this summer! Our major growth in membership this year has brought us many fun, new faces, and some of our best scores have been posted by new members. Congrats, ladies! In addition, many of our members who are newer to golf have been getting comfortable out on the course. For those thinking of joining our club next year, now is a good time to take some lessons, hit the practice areas, and get in some rounds so you’re ready to start with us next summer. We’re looking forward to our threeweek tournament in August. The tourney culminates with a dinner banquet in late August, then we’ll present our season awards in September. Our friendly, supportive club is a great way to meet super gals and improve your game through easyto-fit-in, inclusive 9-hole play. For club information, email td9hole@gmail.com.

4-WHEELERS CLUB

The TD4WD Club had a fun run up the 8,215-foot elevation gain to Peavine Mountain and onto Crystal Peak, where crystals were mined for radios during World War II. The expansive views from the top of Peavine Mountain allowed the group to see the entire Reno metropolitan area before heading back down to the forest to the west. The meadows were full of wildflowers making for a spectacular show along the way. Coming up on August 8 is a moderately challenging run up to Signal Peak and the Old Central Pacific Railroad Fire Lookout that was used to watch for railroad snowshed fires from 1876-1934. Then on August 27, we’re making an easy run up to the Sardine Peak Fire Lookout to do some stargazing, so bring your telescopes! Membership is $10 per year. The trail run schedule is online for members at TD4Wheelers.org. We look forward to seeing you!

MEN’S GOLF CLUB

The TD Men’s Golf Club thanks head pro Jeff Hwang and course superintendent Ram Sena along with their entire teams for providing a terrific mountain golf experience this season. And there is plenty more to come – mark your calendars!
