HungrySheep are great sheep! During late April, May, and June, 900 hungry sheep enjoyed grazing in and around the Thomas Creek and Whites Creek watersheds above our community. This program is coordinated by the Forest Service’s proactive fire mitigation program. When we say hungry sheep are great sheep, we’re not kidding. For the short time they were here, those cute furry creatures devoured about 135 tons of cheatgrass and other vegetation over 1,500 acres! Many of those areas are hard to reach for us humans but the sheep are incredibly thorough. They should get gold stars for their effort. And, a big THANK YOU to everyone for keeping your dogs on leash during the time the sheep were visiting. Only one incident occurred when an off-leash dog attacked a sheep, but the good news was that the sheep was okay. And, the Forest Service believes that the dog did not come from the ArrowCreek community. Good job, folks!!! Never fear – the sheep will be back to munch a bunch next year!

The next five-year Strategic Plan will focus on the new partnership with FirstService Residential property management company which will comply with Nevada Revised Statutes 116 which allows for an alternate management structure for an HOA such as ArrowCreek. This relationship will replace the previous ACHOA hybrid management model that focused on self-management versus the new Community Manager controlled model. deep within the Earth rather than by burning fossil fuels. Wells are drilled thousands of feet into underground reservoirs of hot water and steam. The steam—or steam produced from the hot water—is directed through a turbine, causing its blades to spin. The spinning turbine drives a generator that converts the mechanical energy into electricity. South Reno has long been recognized as one of Nevada's major geothermal energy regions. Nevada ranks second in the nation in installed geothermal power generation capacity, making geothermal energy an important part of the state's renewable energy portfolio. One of the area's best-known geothermal resources is Steamboat Hot Springs, located about eight miles east of ArrowCreek near Old U.S. Highway 395. The site has a rich history that dates back to the early 1800s, when pioneers and travelers - including Mark Twain - visited the springs for their therapeutic waters. In 1861, the springs became the site of a health resort and hospital. Today, Steamboat Hot Springs continues its healing tradition as a wellness center and spa while also serving as the location of utility-scale geothermal power plants and commercial heating systems. Standing high above the hillside with its network of pipes, rotating equipment, and massive lifting hook, the structure inspired plenty of speculation. Some residents guessed it was an oil drilling rig, others thought it might be a military installation, and one imaginative post joked, "They have landed, and they are among us."

90th birthday celebration in the south of france Former ArrowCreek resident Peter Brunt recently celebrated his 90th birthday in grand style, joined by numerous current and former ArrowCreek residents and friends. The celebration was held at the beautiful 17th-century Château Destinée, situated on the banks of the Dordogne River approximately one hour east of Bordeaux, France. After 19 years in ArrowCreek and active membership at The Club at ArrowCreek, Peter and Jane Mellors relocated to the NouvelleAquitaine region of France in 2022 to be closer to family. Their home is just a short drive from Château Destinée, making it the perfect venue for this special occasion.
Peter enjoyed a distinguished career in the aerospace industry. In 1982, he served as Director of Communications Satellite Engineering in Canada before moving to the United States in 1987 to work on the International Space Station program. From 1994 until his retirement in 2004, he contributed to several major communications satellite programs in the United States. The memorable celebration brought together longtime friends from both sides of the Atlantic to honor Peter’s remarkable life, career, and 90 years of achievements.

arrowcreek wine lovers In July, ArrowCreek Wine Lovers enjoyed three memorable summer evenings celebrating great wines and good company with fellow enthusiasts. The first event was hosted by Rebekah and Ryan Skrable and featured premium wines from Fortunati Vineyards in Napa Valley. The 106 attendees each brought an appetizer to share, creating an impressive array of food that paired beautifully with the evening's wine selections, including Chardonnay, Zinfandel, a Bordeaux-style blend, and a bold Cabernet Sauvignon. The second gathering was hosted by Debbie and Dean Shotwell and showcased wines from McGrail Vineyards, located in California's Livermore Valley AVA. Returning to ArrowCreek for the second consecutive year, McGrail was once again a favorite among Wine Lovers. Their Patriot Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Reserve were especially well received, earning rave reviews from the 100 attendees. Lastly, the ArrowCreek Wine Lovers gathered for a fun and memorable evening in late July at the home of Erna and Reb Bailey. Nearly 100 members attended, enjoying an impressive selection of appetizers paired with approximately 55 different wines. The Wine Lovers group is dedicated to celebrating the enjoyment of wine and the enduring tradition of bringing people together. socials & events Cont. arrowcreek july fourth Hundreds of neighbors gathered to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday at several events organized by the ACHOA. The festivities kicked off with a parade of over a dozen decorated golf carts. Local veterans representing the Navy, Army, and Air Force joined the procession and were honored with the National Anthem. The ACHOA Social Committee extends a sincere thank you to all participants; the decorations were exceptional, making the judging process very difficult. The winners and their designated charities are: First Place: Robert Smith Family – Veterans' Guest House Second Place: Mal and Diane Coghlan – Northern Nevada Legal Aid Third Place (Tie): Mendy Elliott – The Children's Cabinet Third Place (Tie): Annette Kruder - The Children's Cabinet The celebration continued at the home of Hawley MacClean, where over 150 residents toured an intricate replica of the Alpine and Western Pacific Railroad. Attendees enjoyed the display while reflecting on the railroad’s historic role in building our nation. At the Residents' Center, over 150 community members enjoyed various activities, including bounce houses, games, and temporary tattoos. Children had the opportunity to meet with Truckee Meadows firefighters and explore their fire truck, while the ice cream truck provided a popular treat for all ages. Thank you to everyone who participated in making this milestone Independence Day celebration a success.

wildlife issues ArrowCreek is one of many communities located in a “Wilderness Urban Interface” area and, as such, residents may more frequently experience problems with animals, reptiles and insects in or near their homes or property. Residents are responsible for any issue regarding wild animal/snakes etc., on their property. we have great people helping us! by hal albright I had an unfortunate experience having work done on my vehicle. Fortunately, I was given a loaner to drive. Unfortunately, the loaner did not have a transponder to automatically raise our community entry gate. I will not admit to being intellectually challenged by age, but I kept driving into the entry gate for residents. Without the transponder, the gate would not open, and I had to be admitted by the security person on duty. First, I had never really appreciated how nice that service is to keep us safe and to monitor traffic in our community. Never once was I admitted without scrutiny to determine that I belonged. Second, it reminded me of how many times I travel in and out of our community. There are over a thousand home sites with probably an average of 2.5 people per home site. Many residents are exiting and entering the community multiple times per day, which translates into thousands of people passing through the security gate daily. Then add the number of people entering the community to perform work and to visit owners, and the number of people accessing the security gate is mind-boggling. In fact, in 2023 between 1.1 million and 1.3 million vehicles entered the community! Third, I was completely impressed by the professionalism and kindness with which I was treated. Never once was I addressed in other than a proper, courteous, and respectful manner. It had to be somewhat exasperating to have me bumble my way into the wrong lane time after time, but each person at the gate never expressed that exasperation and eventually teased me as I came in. Fourth, monitoring people accessing the community is only one of the duties the staff performs. In addition, they perform at least the following duties: a. provide drive-by services around the community to make sure things are in order, b. register vehicles and attach transponders to vehicles and golf carts,

c. oversee emergencies involving members --like admitting ambulances and other first responders, d. provide vacation home reviews for members who are on vacation, e. monitor traffic for speeders and other offenders who endanger the community members through their reckless behavior. Also, they keep an eye on road conditions for accidents, debris, flooding, and other problems, f. handle resident incident problems and reports, g. review claimed CC&R violations, h. bus stop enforcement, i. community building checks and lock up, j. snow removal coordination. As I think you can see, the security staff have a hard job 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Each of us ought to be cognizant of the difficulty of their job and realize they are an important and necessary part of our community. I talked to Rick Reyomes and Scott Peterlin, who suggested some ways we can all help them perform their duties even more efficiently. They suggested: a. use Quick Pass to register your guests and visitors. The gate then knows they are expected and can admit them quickly. We have all seen the line of work trucks and visitors waiting to get into the
community. Quick Pass registration really makes this admission faster. When I needed help registering for Quick Pass, the staff walked me through it quickly and with enough knowledge that I could do it alone from then on, b. don’t speed. How much time can you gain from the security gate to your home--a minute? There are pedestrians, deer, kids on electric vehicles, school buses, dogs and all manner of potential dangers on the roads in the community. Be extremely careful. c. be courteous and nice. Each one of these professionals is here to help, serve and protect us. Not one of them woke up in the morning wanting to interact adversely with a member of this community. When they applied for this job, they realized it was a job of service and when they were interviewed, they were certainly made aware that that was their primary goal. They will be thrust into a million different situations and we must help them work their way through them. d. monitor your own property. Bring your trash receptacles in, close your garage doors, groom your yard and review the CC&Rs so you can be sure you are in compliance. This is a great community, and if we each pitch in, we can help ensure the Security Staff can be even more effective.
