board of directors' note

rate the service of the achoa board in each category (five stars for most positive result, one star for least positive result for the current and past boards)

One segment of the recent community survey was your review of the performance of the board, both current and past. The results in the table below indicate that responses for all six questions were quite consistent and that about 70% of the community rates board performance as average to excellent. We regret there is still about 30% of the community that rates board performance as below average to poor and we hope that as we continue toward achieving our goals, then those who rated us poorly will reconsider.

At the start of this board term, we agreed upon two primary board goals supported by a number of committee objectives. Achieving the individual committee objectives would propel us toward achieving our board goals.

The board goals and our own review of progress:

1. Ensure Financial Health of the Community: We have made substantial progress toward this, supported by a special assessment, fee increase, assertive cost control, and a highly competent Budget & Finance Committee. A substantial upward revision to our Reserve Fund cost basis will reduce our Reserve Fund percent but enable more accurate budgeting in the future.

2. Maximize Homeowner Satisfaction and Security: We believe we are trending toward greater homeowner satisfaction. We have an improved communication loop with homeowners, an open, responsive, and collaborative board, and no reported crime.

Key Committee Objectives we have achieved include:

» Amend the Budget & Finance Charter to require a balanced budget each year.

» Assertively reduce and defer operating and capital expenses.

» Enable real time cashflow reporting.

» Adjust Reserve Fund cost basis to accommodate real time conditions and improve forecasting.

» Substantially increase communication with homeowners through coffee chats, town halls and quick updates from the board.

» Develop simpler ADRC application for small projects.

» Continue protective lot evaluations and maintain certification as a Firewise Community.

» Increase self-funded social events.

» Expand community relationship with the Club.

Key Committee Objectives we have not yet achieved but are determined to do so before the year end.

» Commence Residents’ Center renovations.

» Implement job descriptions for our employees.

» Implement ADRC exit survey.

None of our objectives is achievable without the incredible support we receive from our volunteer community, our invaluable employees, and their leadership. For those who are not aware, we have ten active advisory committees, comprising a cross section of volunteer homeowners, which provide valuable guidance to the board in the performance of its duties. We encourage all homeowners with an interest in supporting our community to please volunteer.

Thank you for being a good neighbor!

association board of directors' election this fall

The Association will be looking for volunteers to run in the Board of Directors Annual Election. The Association Board consists of seven (7) directors voted by the community. A notice requesting candidate nominations will be sent to all association members in September. The deadline to submit nominations will be October 20, 2023.

Board members are expected to attend at least six (6) board meetings and six executive sessions a year, participate on at least one or two advisory committees (committee meetings are most often held during business hours as that is when most volunteers are available) and stay current on routine email communications.

The two-year terms are staggered so that either three or four positions are elected each year. There are three open positions for the 2023 elections for a two-year term. The four members who will be remaining on the Board are Margaret McConnell, Paul Burkett, Rick Hsu, and Reb Bailey. The ballots will be counted and the election results announced at the Annual Members Meeting on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

Each Director candidate will need to complete the nomination forms and to provide an optional candidate informational statement. Per Nevada

statute the following candidate statement requirements apply: 1) Must be no longer than a single, typed page and 2) Must not contain any defamatory, libelous, or profane information.

Please note that per NRS 116.31034, each community member who is nominated as a candidate for a member of the executive board must: (a) Make a good faith effort to disclose any financial, business, professional or personal relationship or interest that would result or would appear to a reasonable person to result in a potential conflict of interest for the candidate if the candidate were to be elected to serve as a member of the executive board; and (b) Disclose whether the candidate is a member in good standing. (“good standing” means the candidate has no unpaid and past due assessments or construction penalties that are required to be paid to the association). All elected board members will be required to sign the ACHOA Conflict of Interest Statement. (The Conflict-of-Interest Policy is posted on TownSq under documents.)

Candidates have the option to place an advertisement in the ArrowCreek View. The candidate must pay for the advertisement and the candidate must sign a declaration under penalty of perjury to confirm they paid for the advertisement. The space for

the advertisement will be limited up to one-half page. Disclosure language will accompany the ad that states, “This is a paid advertisement, paid for by [insert Candidate name].” Interested candidates need to contact CCMedia directly at 775.548.6562 or email Peggy McElfish at peggy@cc.media. The deadline to reserve ad space for the November issue is Monday, October 2, 2023.

A Meet the Candidates night has been scheduled for Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 6 - 7:30pm. The format for the meeting is currently anticipated to be a hybrid of Zoom and in person. The final format will be announced as we get closer to the meeting. The meeting formats are designed specifically to allow for community member participation. The Meet the Candidates Night sign in will be noticed closer to the meeting date. The candidates applying for the open Board of Director positions are expected to be in attendance and answer questions during the event.

Board of Director Ballots will be mailed out to each lot owner on or about October 25, 2023. Please attend the Candidate Night, complete your ballot and mail back your ballot in the required return envelopes in time for the ballot counting. Please remember that ballots are to be mailed to McClintock Accountancy and must be in the proper return ballot envelopes provided. Walk in ballots will not be accepted at the meeting. It is important that all owners take part in the election process.

I am from the California Bay Area (Sacramento) and studied at UC Santa Cruz for 4 years. I then managed Cruise Coffee Company, a small coffee chain that went from being a one location drive-thru to having the biggest café/bakery in Scotts Valley. If you ever take a trip down there, just mention my name to the owner and she will talk your ear off the rest of the day! I relocated to Nevada this March and interviewed at Associa the week I moved in. In my free time, I lift weights at American Iron, swim and write music. Music is my primary passion; I directed an a cappella group in college that placed higher than a rival group composed of 100% music majors. I still regard this as my greatest achievement. Thank you for your time and patience—I am excited to meet as many of you as I can!

Hunsberger

parent teacher organization

Hunsberger Elementary School is extremely fortunate to have many families and community partners that choose to be involved with our school. From classroom volunteer opportunities to monetary and inkind donations, our school’s support system comes in many forms.

Hunsberger is home to the highest number of National Board Certified Teachers in the Washoe County School District. This certification is recognized as the gold standard in teacher certification. We truly love our teachers and have an active Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) that helps to support our teachers by setting aside funds for professional development as well as classroom supplies and volunteer support. Additionally, we love honoring and thanking our teachers with special perks and events such as Teacher Breakfasts/Lunches, Holiday Treat displays, “Sweet & Souper” treat weeks, teacher socials, and a school favorite, Teacher Appreciation Week!!

Our PTO stays busy funding projects around the school, supporting our teachers, and creating fun school events for our Hunsberger students. Did you know that many of the improvements to the school are made possible by the fundraising efforts of the PTO and the generosity of local families?

In the last few years, the Hunsberger PTO has been able to purchase three laptops for each classroom, high resolution cameras for our art program, iPads, and updated educational technology apps such as IXL and Raz-Kids. The funds raised have helped to add hydration stations to our building, build a kindergarten playground, provide new equipment on our older kids playground, replace the soccer field, support our teachers, and offer our children additional programs like Husky Art, Foss Kits Science, Urban Roots Gardening, and the Husky Kindness Crew.

Family FUN!

Each year, the Hunsberger PTO brings fun community activities to our school. The Welcome Back Ice Cream Social, Husky Howl-O-

Ween festival, BINGO, Annual Hunsberger Gala Night, VIP Dances, and Spring Carnival are just a few of our awesome events. Our Husky pride is strong, and we show it during our Spirit Days and many themed weeks throughout the year. We also partner with businesses in the area to help get our families out into the community to enjoy their services. We have so many amazing community eateries that partner with us for “give-back” nights such as Yogurt Beach, Schussboom, Texas Roadhouse, Red Robin, Skipolini’s, Grateful Gardens, and Urban Deli.

The PTO could not be as successful as we are without the support from our Hunsberger Staff & Teachers, Parents, Volunteers, Students, and our Community/Neighborhood Business Sponsors (big and small). We would like to send a huge THANK YOU to all those that support our Hunsberger Huskies and have helped to build the amazing community that we are and we will continue to be. Support from our Hunsberger PTO members is what makes us successful. If you have a child at Hunsberger and have not yet joined the PTO, we encourage you to join. With a brand new school year just starting, we are excited to welcome new students and new PTO members. Not only does your PTO membership support Hunsberger, but it also gives you exclusive savings and early access to event tickets.

If you would like to learn more about our PTO or have any suggestions, comments, or thoughts please visit our website at www.hunsbergerpto.membershiptoolkit.com or email us at hunsbergerpto@gmail.com.

Bats

in the arrowcreek belfry by stan jaeger

I know some of you think I have bats in the belfry. It turns out I do have bats in my belfry (our entryway porch). Our house entrance does have somewhat of an appearance of a belfry and some bats like to roost there. They only come late at night and only stay for a few hours. I suspect that they are eating insects in our area and take a break by resting in the alcove.

According to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW), there are 23 species of bats native to Nevada. And some like the high desert.

A large colony of Mexican Free-tailed bats has adopted a bridge in Reno as their summer roost where they can give birth to their pups. This is one of the largest known colonies of bats in the state. Every

of approximately 100,000 bats including those born here every year. These bats do not hibernate in Nevada but fly as far as Mexico for the winter to feed on insects. Each bat can eat at least one thousand small insects per night and the entire colony consumes approximately seventy-five tons of night-flying insects in Nevada during the summer.

The US Dept. of Interior reports that without bats, we can say good-bye to bananas, avocados, and mangoes. Over 300 species of fruit depend on bats for pollination. Bats help spread seeds for nuts, figs, and cacao — the main ingredient in chocolate. Without bats, we also would not have plants like agave or the iconic saguaro cactus.

It may be the bats from the bridge that visit us at night on their nightly eating rounds. Bats are a protected species and are under attack from diseases, particularly white nose syndrome caused by

fall clean up tips

The cooler days of autumn are a wonderful time to get out in the yard and do some fall clean up before winter sets in. Below are a few tips to keep your landscaping and property in good condition.

» Aerate and fertilize your lawn. Aerate the soil to allow nutrients to reach the grass roots. A garden fork will do the job for small yards, and for larger areas you can rent an aerator from your local hardware store. Apply fertilizer with a high phosphorous content to encourage root growth for a lush green lawn come springtime.

» Winterize your irrigation system. Drain all hoses, fountains, and irrigation lines before the first hard freeze of winter which generally occurs in November.

» Clean out the roof gutters. Clear out any debris like leaves and pine needles that have accumulated over the summer. Rinse with a hose and check for proper drainage.

» Plant bulbs and shrubs. Some plants do best when planted in the fall. If you want to add new shrubs or spring bulbs like daffodils, the months of September and October are usually an ideal time for planting.

A little fall clean up and maintenance saves you time and energy in the spring and will lead to a more productive growing season and healthier lawn next year.

The Association as per NRS 116 accurately assessed monthly assessments to the 275 lot owners behind sub gates for the maintenance, repair, restoration, and replacement of the sub gates or limited common area over the years. Dog days of summer got you down? We make cool happen!

This class was an all-day event at the Reno Public Safety Center. We started with a car inspection and checking tire pressures. We then met our instructors and my group, Group B, started outside where we started the first exercise.

TireRack

Most kids cannot wait until they are able to drive, but luckily for me, I completed the 15 years of being a passenger and have moved on to driving the car with an instruction permit. However, with so little drive time, I had no skills that could have kept me safe in bad scenarios. I signed up for the Tire Rack Street Survival for ages 1521. I was familiar with the safety course because my dad’s friends all helped run and volunteered their time to teach kids how to be safer drivers.

We sped up in the cars and had to brake as late as possible before a set of cones. Because I had such little experience, I braked too early thinking the car did not have stopping power and then suddenly stopped and stalled the car because I forgot to press the clutch. After several attempts, I finally figured out when to press the brakes. After this, we went inside the classroom and learned about safety and what causes cars to lose control. The other sessions on the closed course included weaving in and out of cones at high speeds, driving in circles at high speeds, and driving in circles with water! These exercises allowed me to feel understeer (front wheels lose traction) and oversteer (rear wheels lose traction). We later did fast lane switching where our instructor would say right or left, and we would quickly have to changes lanes before we hit a line of cones. This exercise was difficult because I would guess the lane my coach chose, but got it wrong many times. After a while of practice, I learned to switch lanes at the last second in case of an emergency. The last exercise we did was my favorite where we drove fast around cones in a figure eight pattern to feel the car losing control. I soon got curious and wanted to try controlling an oversteer effect, otherwise known as drifting. As soon as the instructor said go, I gave gas while letting the clutch out and shifted to second gear which led me to the first turn. I stayed tight and approached the second turn. I hit the brakes before the turn which brought the weight forward off the rear wheels. I quickly gave gas, and the back end of the car came out and I counter steered. This was drifting and it felt like I was Lightning McQueen “turning right to go left.” I straightened out with a big smile on my face as the session ended.

This experience really taught me good habits to be a safer driver and gave me firsthand experience in bad situations. With the amazing teachers there, I learned a lot more about my car’s limits and how to safely avoid obstacles and drive in wet conditions. This class was super fun and all the teens there were happy to drive in these unique situations. The in-class sessions were a little boring because I kept wanting to drive, but they were useful and descriptive as they taught about weight shifting, braking, the dangers of cellphones, and so many other useful tips to prevent accidents. Overall, I recommend the course for any teenager who just got their license or permit and who wants to have fun while also learning to be safe.

Thanks to my instructors: Sam McCord, Mr. Eberts, and Rich McSwiggin

ArrowCreekResidents

Dave Ritch and Kim Windrow bought their ArrowCreek lot in 2008; however, they did not start building until 2016. They officially moved in at the end of February 2018. They moved here from Pittsburgh, where they happened to be living at the time that they were ready to retire to Reno. They both had big careers: Dave as a reinsurance broker and Kim as a Chief Human Resources Officer. Now they want to spend time with their old Reno friends and their new ArrowCreek friends and enjoy life!

They are both Air Force brats and Kim always likes to remind Dave that she went to thirteen schools growing up and he only went to twelve. While they were constantly moving as children, they happened to be in Libya and Turkey at the same time and Vandenberg AFB and Travis AFB in CA at the same time. So, fate eventually brought them together. Dave and Kim met in Nashville where they worked for the same company. They then spent almost ten years in the New York / New Jersey area and almost nine years in Pittsburgh.

Dave and Kim’s immediate family are just the two of them. Dave has an older brother and two younger sisters that live in this area. Kim’s Dad is in Shelbyville, TN, and she visits as often as possible. They have a sweet, oneeyed Shih Tzu with a heart condition named Kayli. Many people in the neighborhood see them walking Kayli in her stroller.

Dave is an avid golfer (hacker) and incredibly involved with the Reno Rodeo Association. He rode in his third cattle drive in June. Dave

not only volunteers with the Reno Rodeo, but also with the Barracuda golf tournament and is on the Washoe County Republican Central Committee. Kim is on the Board of Trustees for The Children’s Cabinet. They are both continually active Boosters for UNR Athletics. Kim loves basketball and Dave loves football. Kim walks every day and spends lots of time with Kayli. She collects wine, cooks, and loves to entertain.

Kim’s personal hero is her dad. He spent 20 years serving his country and seeing the world and still had plenty of time to have a career after retiring from the military.

Dave’s hero is Dr. Joe Crowley, who was the President of UNR while Dave was president of the student body. He was an amazing person who was generous with his time, loved every constituent of the university, and had an enthusiastic sense of humor. Please say hello when you see them walking Kayli!

Allosaurus

at the discovery by patrick turner, the discovery

The Discovery recently welcomed an ominous new resident. Thanks to the generosity of a local donor, the museum is now home to a 25-foot-long Allosaurus, a fearsome carnivorous dinosaur that roamed the Earth 150 million years ago.

A distant cousin of the Tyrannosaurus rex, the Allosaurus wields dagger-like teeth, razor-sharp claws and powerful hind legs. The meticulously constructed cast offers an impressive glimpse into an ancient past.

Allosaurus lived during the late Jurassic period, from around 155 million years ago until it became extinct approximately 145 million years ago. Strong forelimbs with sharp claws, powerful hind legs and recurved, dagger-like teeth are evidence that Allosaurus was a formidable predator, but these opportunistic creatures are presumed to have been both hunters and scavengers. The Discovery’s Allosaurus is thought to be a juvenile male. The cast was donated to The Discovery by Greg Berry, who previously had the cast on display at his home.

The Allosaurus is a permanent exhibit at The Discovery and is included with general admission. Hours, admission and location information is available on our website at nvdm.org or by calling 775.786.1000.

The Thunderbird Lodge & Volunteers Earl and Susan Burton

Earl and Susan Burton moved to ArrowCreek in 2005 after living in Incline Village for 30 years. While boating on Lake Tahoe in the late 1970s, they came upon a compound of stone buildings on the lake shore south of Sand Harbor that they were told was the Whittell Estate. They also had many encounters with the famous Thunderbird yacht during their tenure at Lake Tahoe. In 2002, they learned that the Whittell Estate was indeed the Thunderbird Lodge that had been built for George Whittell, Jr. in the 1930s and was open for tours.

Beauty & Lashes

They immediately went on a public tour of the Lodge and fell in love with it and in 2003, they started volunteering and giving tours of the Lodge.

As a youngster, Earl built model airplanes and boats, and his connection to the Thunderbird Lodge reignited that interest. The Hacker designed Thunderbird yacht that was built for George Whittell, Jr. in 1939-1940 was modified in 1962 when Bill Harrah purchased it. Unless the yacht is out on an excursion, it is on display at the Lodge during public tours. It took eight years to complete two forty-two-inch models of the yacht, one as originally built and one as modified by Bill Harrah. Both are on display in the museum room at the Lodge. George Whittell, Jr. had many toys over the years, and Earl has built models that are on display at the Lodge: a DC-2 airplane, a Grumman Goose seaplane, a hydroplane racing boat, and a luxurious seagoing yacht. In keeping with the theme of famous boats of Lake Tahoe, Earl has added a model of the Mercury, a model of the Hornet II, and a model of the SS Tahoe Steamer to the collection.

ArrowCreek View readers can visit www.thunderbirdtahoe.org to learn more about the Thunderbird Lodge. The Lodge is open for public tours mid-May through mid-October and is available for special events. The Thunderbird yacht is also available for excursions and of course, new volunteers are always welcome. The Thunderbird Lodge has enabled Earl and Susan to maintain their connection to Lake Tahoe.

wine lovers club summer activities

In early June, the ArrowCreek Wine Lovers held a Carnival of Fun event at the home of Alan and Katrina Bader. One hundred attended the event that included hot dogs, cotton candy, assorted appetizers and desserts, carnival games and lots of wine. Joining in the fun were Wine Lovers Stephanie Olson, Tracey Buescher, Joan Brodt, Nichelle Hudson, and Lacie Flannery.

In late July, some 86 ArrowCreek Wine Lovers enjoyed a special evening of sampling wines from Mendocino’s Anderson Valley. The event was held at Valerie and Ralph Logan’s home on Flowering Sage Trail. Kelly Young, a new resident of ArrowCreek and a Wine Specialist poured samples of 5 different wines from Bee Hunter

whiskey & spirits tasting

In June, owner and distiller Felicia Keith-Jones of High Mark Distillery presented a whiskey and spirits tasting at the Residents’ Center. The private event, limited to 40 ArrowCreek residents, comprised of eight tastings and accompanying stories from High Mark Distillery’s bottle collection. Tastings from the collection included staples such as Single Barrel Bourbon, Golden Rum, Blueberry Cobbler, Peach Ginger, and some favorites like

Apple Jack, Limoncello, and Kopeika (a Hawaiian Coffee Rum).

If you attended our holiday party last year, you would remember High Mark Distillery because they gifted many of their signature and seasonal bottles for our Winter Festival 2022 contest and raffle prizes. The distillery started from handcrafting spirits in an old airplane hangar in remote Alaska to providing the highest quality spirits in Nevada. In 2010, Felicia Keith-Jones, who had spent her career thus far flying planes and teaching in the Alaskan Bush, decided to fulfill the dream of opening a distillery in one of the most remote locations on the planet. After studying in Ireland and receiving the proper credentials, she returned to Alaska and initiated the birthplace of High Mark Distillery. In 2018, High Mark moved to Reno, where all their grains are Nevada grown, and their fruits are delivered from family-owned farms. The organic juices are pressed, and they begin mashing and distilling from orchard to bottle right away, to preserve the freshness.

If you are in Reno, visit High Mark Distillery for a tasting! If you are a little too far away, do not worry! Every single one of their handcrafted beverages is available for purchase online (highmarkdistillery.com).

purple heart honor & recognition dinner

Nevadans4Vets held a Purple Heart Honor and Recognition Dinner at The Club at ArrowCreek on August 6. Some 200 attendees recognized and honored the brave men and women who have been awarded the Purple Heart. This prestigious dinner also included a Marine Cake Cutting and a Missing in Action ceremony

and was attended by several local community leaders. In addition, the many ArrowCreek residents and local veterans in attendance shared the evening with 35 honored Purple Heart recipients.

The Purple Heart is a distinguished military decoration awarded to members of the U. S. Armed Forces who have been wounded or tragically killed in action. This event paid tribute to the sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering dedication of these courageous individuals who have selflessly served our great nation in times of conflict.

During the evening, U.S. Army veteran and Chairman for the United Veterans Legislative Council, Andy LePeilbet, gave a moving speech on the history of the Purple Heart medal. LePeilbet is not only a Purple Heart recipient but also a twotime recipient of a Silver Star for Gallantry in Action. The keynote speaker was Major General Ondra Berry. Gen Berry is The Adjutant General for the State of Nevada and the senior officer responsible for managing the 4,700 NV Army and Air National Guard personnel.

trips & philanthropy by carlos mejia

In 1972 a handful of the American iconic sports car owners in the greater Reno area formed the Reno Corvettes Club. RCC has grown over the years to one of the largest west coast Corvette clubs with over 275 members & 200 C-1s to C-8s. Numerous present & past AC residents have been members of RCC. Last year in celebration of the Corvette’s 50th Anniversary, various special events were conducted, including 68 Corvettes staged under the Reno arch on Virginia Street for a group and individual Corvette pictures.

During non-winter months the club actively participates in driving to Corvette events. In July, twenty-nine Club Corvettes traveled to Boise, Idaho & local Sawtooth mountains to

participate in “Vette Fest” driving over 1,525 miles.

The club gives back to the community with annual contributions to various organizations including but not limited to: Veterans Guest House, Veterans Honor Flight, Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation, Food Bank, and an outreach program which distributes teen driving safety materials to schools and recently created scholarships at TMCC for students in the Automotive Technology Program.

The Club meets 7pm on the first Thursday of each month at the Bonanza Casino, any Corvette owner is welcome to visit & join the Club.

Remembering brent zicarelli

Long time ArrowCreek resident, Brent Zicarelli, passed away on June 16, 2023. Brent and his wife Val along with his brother, Chris, built their dream home on Rabbit Brush twenty years ago. Brent

Brent was the most loving husband, father and PaPa to all his family. He was fun, he made you laugh, he would motivate you, edify and invite you to join whatever he was active in at the time. He loved to travel to cruise all over the world and loved food. He was the best chef - cooking many meals at home for his family and for friends. In addition to serving on the Safety Committee in ArrowCreek, Brent was also active in the community with the Knights of Columbus and as a board member of the Sierra Club of Reno. He will be missed.

2023Graduate

of sugar bowl academy, william

William “Will” Franklin grew up in San Francisco where he attended Stuart Hall for Boys. Having skied for the Sugar Bowl Ski team since he was five while living in San Francisco, Will decided he wanted to make a greater, and more local, commitment to his ski career. When Will became a teen, he chose to attend Sugar Bowl Academy, on Donner Summit above Truckee, where he would then attend 8th grade and high school full-time and ski, or train, six days a week. During school Will lived with his father Bill Franklin in Sugar Bowl and on non-skiing weekends and summers Will lived in ArrowCreek with his father and his father’s partner Deb Marko.

After fourteen years of Alpine Skiing with the last three years racing FIS around the US and Canada, Will had a ski racing career ending injury while training in Austria at the start of his senior year. Having spent years training six days a week, he had hoped to be a

collegiate athlete. With skiing no longer an option he shifted his athletic focus to rowing.

Since Will was attending a sports academy, he was able to get additional physical conditioning coaching to help with his shift to rowing. Will started his rowing career, with YouTube as a coach, on rowing machines in ArrowCreek and Sugar Bowl. Not your traditional path to row in college, but with a lot of work and sharing his unusual story with a number of universities, Will was recruited by a number of rowing universities.

After five years living on Donner Summit attending a rural university such as Dartmouth was not something Will wanted. He wanted to get back to a city feel somewhere on the East Coast so he has chosen to attend Boston University in the fall of 2023, where he will row and major in Economics and International Relations.

wildlife issues

ArrowCreek is one of many communities located in a “Wilderness Urban Interface” area and, as such, residents may more frequently experience problems with animals, reptiles and insects in or near their homes or property. Residents are responsible for any issue regarding wild animal/snakes etc., on their property. Security staff will assist by giving residents the correct phone number of the agency that may be able to assist them.

As some of you have noticed, new radar speed cameras were installed last year on ArrowCreek Parkway. The cameras have state of the art technology and are connected to the cloud which provides constant monitoring and calibration. They will alert Security and the vendor instantly to any issues that need to be addressed.

Each unit has two radars and are positioned to capture your speed as you approach and pass the unit. If a vehicle is speeding, it takes the picture of your BACK license plate for documentation.

asked how they can determine if someone is speeding if there are numerous vehicles driving near each other. Even if multiple cars are coming towards the unit, the radar camera can pinpoint the exact one that is speeding and will only take that vehicle’s picture.

In addition to the new cameras on AC Parkway, we also have a mobile radar trailer with the same capabilities. The mobile unit is periodically moved to various locations around the community to address troublesome areas. This helps us make sure that our community is safe, and we are monitoring our speeds.

volunteer, debra wurzel

ArrowCreek resident Debra Wurzel along with other community members have been active with LEAD with Horses, a local nonprofit, with Debra’s involvement for over two years. Debra began her involvement with LEAD with Horses when she was invited to its benefit concert two years back by ArrowCreek friends Susan and Carl

Consalus. At that concert, Debra chatted with volunteers about their experiences and “decided then and there to sign up.”

Debra has been sharing her LEAD with Horses passion with ACHOA community members since she first got involved with the organization, ACHOA residents have actively supported her and this year’s LEAD with Horses July 29 benefit. Community residents volunteered to help set up the event, attended the benefit concert and actively participated in the auction bidding, all to support LEAD’s mission “to improve social, emotional and behavioral development of children and youth through quality, equine-assisted programs.” ArrowCreek’s HOA president, Mark Aston, attended the event, and said “It is inspiring to see how disadvantaged children can quickly develop self-esteem and confidence through a relationship with horses and guidance from committed mentors. Please support Lead with Horses.”

Debra was recently asked to consider becoming the next year’s Board president. Debra and fellow ACHOA community members were excited that she accepted the invitation to be a leader for LEAD.

2024 will be a great year for LEAD with Horses, and Debra is looking forward to helping LEAD in achieving its goals. In addition

Our picture with The View magazine was taken on the island of Anglesey in Wales. We were on a Viking cruise tour. The town name is shown on the building above us. It is the longest place name in Europe and second longest in the world and was given this name in the 1800’s to attract tourists.
