With over 200 fire hydrants around the property it can take the staff over a week to shovel all of them out. With your help we can make sure in the event of a fire that every hydrant is easily accessible at all times.

We may be retired, but we seem to be busier than ever! Besides our passions of running, hiking, skiing, golf, and traveling, we spend many hours volunteering in the Reno community.

Jill, describe your volunteer projects.

Having served on an HOA Board in the past, I realized the value of community involvement and volunteered for a few committees here at ArrowCreek. Along with several other neighbors, we developed and published the ArrowCreek trail system map. More recently, I served on a task force that looked into an access path to the Thomas Creek trail system. Finally, a few years ago, I worked with neighbors on an

Additionally, I've presented my research to the Nevada Historical Society and other organizations. In addition to TMPF, HRPS, and NHS, I have volunteered as a coach for Girls on the Run for four seasons and a judge for FIRST Lego League competitions. Based on all the youth I've met in these organizations, the future of Reno is in good hands.

Mark, how do you keep busy?

While I also participated in activities with Jill's favorite organizations, I joined the SPCA of Northern Nevada in their efforts to find loving homes for adoptable dogs. Every week I spend a few hours walking some of our more challenging dogs that lesser-experienced volunteers are not permitted to walk. I also train new volunteers on SPCA policies and animal care. Recently, I volunteered to be a docent at PBS Reno, another very deserving organization. In this capacity, I give tours of the facility a couple of times a month, and every quarter I

We are the oldest members of Reno's Mikkeller Running (and beerdrinking) Club and participate in many activities, group runs, and races. We have both run a marathon since retiring and a bunch of half marathons and shorter races. We love trying to keep up with the other club members in running and beer—many are half our age.

Jill has been taking Spanish lessons. We love to travel. Since retiring, we hiked to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Whitney and

facilities & projects 2023 arrowcreek pavement maintenance project The ACHOA road vendors completed the 2023 annual road and pathway maintenance projects prior to the arrival of snow. In May 2023, the ACHOA sent out a Request For Bid (RFB) to three different contractors requesting sealed bids for the project.

Sierra Nevada Construction (SNC) was the low bidder and the ACHOA Board selected them for this project. This scope of work included asphalt patching, crack sealing, road striping and a slurry seal. Due to damage from the extreme winter last year the scope of work expanded requiring more asphalt patching than initially expected. SNC completed the job in a timely manner and met the specification requirements for the slurry emulsion, asphalt density, content, and thickness. The ACHOA would like to thank all residents for their patience and for slowing down and driving safely through the duration of the road work.

COVID brought us many challenges we had never faced before – mask requirements, social distancing, hybrid learning, and distance learning were just a few of the challenges we got to tackle that year. We were not alone in those challenges. Most would agree that 20202021 was the most challenging school

By the time we started the 2021-2022 school year, COVID had certainly settled down a bit, but we were still in masks and were dealing with mass exclusions from school due to contact tracing. The masks and exclusions were difficult for students, families, and staff. Thankfully, the 2022-2023 school year started without any COVID restrictions; however, that year brought its own challenges. Due to bus driver shortages, we had rolling blackouts of bus services. Our first blackout happened to fall in the first week of school.

A 1000-year-old international charity originally founded during The Crusades to care for pilgrims to the Holy Land, as well as anyone else in need, attracted three residents of ArrowCreek and their love of history and giving back to the community. The modern Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller remains a Christian community, now with one thousand incredible members worldwide, who continue the tradition of serving the sick and poor. The Commandery of the Sierras, the local chapter of our Order, has raised more than $250,000 since its founding for such worthwhile local charities as Eddy House, Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission, Renown Hospital, Veterans’ Guest House, Ronald McDonald House, High Sierras Industries (HSI)/WARC, etc.

Grand Prior of the USA Brian Rauschhuber was already a member of the San Jose Commandery of our Order when he retired from Apple as the Senior Director of Worldwide Operations and decided to relocate to ArrowCreek in 2015. By Terry Brodt, President of AC Wine Lovers The ArrowCreek Wine Lovers, the largest active club in AC, celebrated its annual charity fundraiser on September 7th at the AC home of Maurine and Tom Turner.

While enjoying perfect evening weather, the 182 Wine Lovers enjoyed an assortment of fine wines from Frank Family Vineyards.

The lively crowd also savored ahi tuna, crab delights, sirloin over blue cheese and over twenty scrumptious appetizers from the Sparks Water Bar. Epics Photo Booth

The charity fundraiser was for The Children's Cabinet whose mission is to keep children safe and families together by providing services at no charge to youth and their families in Northern Nevada. We were fortunate to be smoke-free from wildfires and had another successful music on the lawn event.

In September, the ACHOA held a budget workshop/townhall at the

The swimming pools closed in late October but the jacuzzi spa will stay open throughout the winter. The pickleball and tennis courts remain open throughout the winter as does the playing field and fit trail, weather permitting.

We anticipate renovations to start in the multi-purpose room in November. This includes new flooring, drywall repairs, and a new partition door to provide a meeting space while still allowing for half the room for exercise by residents. The ACHOA will communicate any potential closures of the multi-purpose room during the renovations and will work to minimize any down time as much as possible. Please stay tuned!

On October 21st, the ACHOA Residents’ Center hosted ghosts, goblins and witches that swept into the Annual Fall Festival on multiple conveyances.

Over 120 attendees enjoyed the bounce house, carnival games, pumpkin painting, face painting and goodie bags. A big thank you shout-out to the social committee volunteers for planning and executing this fun event! We also want to thank our ArrowCreek teen volunteers: Ella Shapiro, Siri Vuppalapati, Michelle Cho, Joaquin Pardo, and Kailee Pardo for helping at the event as well. The teen volunteers helped with face painting, pumpkin painting and monitoring the bounce house. We would welcome any volunteers that would want to help at future events.
