The Port Vauban committed to an important security and remodeling program.

First step: repair the decks, bollards, guardrails, etc.

Decks 16 and 17 These decks were recently fully renovated.

The steel decks were replaced by aluminium ones, lastest generations of electrical and water outputs were installed. Boaters can now moore their boats on those new decks and enjoy their stay.

Video protection The whole port is secured by 150 cameras: 80 brand new video cameras and 49 there for a few years now (15 of them were recently replaced). A 360 degree monitoring is now garanteed by this system.

Dock scouring All docks will be renovated by the end of the year. This construction work has starten on the old part of the port and will expand to the rest in the near future.

ENVIRONMENT

Liquid waste: Beginning of 2019, the Port council decided to invest in liquid waste sorting areas. The pumping wastewater can be made by three companies: Blue Marine, Eco Tank and Agora.

Before that, it was a B to C deal and the Port Vauban could not oversee what was really happening with its customers. Each quarter, the companies now involved discuss with the Port teams to provide a detailed report. Only boats smaller or equivalent to 23 meters can plug their pipes to the pumping wastewater system.

The rubbish dump: The development of clean points (waste collection points) has been the main focus of this new label. The Port has a waste facility at the entrance to Fort CarrĂŠ that allows customers to deposit their hazardous and non-hazardous waste from their boats. Several containers are used to recover waste oils, hydrocarbons, batteries, packaging, wood...

An agent welcomes, advises and cleans the waste facility to ensure its proper functioning. It is open on Tuesday and Friday mornings.

Any initiatives from the port ?

Every summer, our team gives boaters garbage bags, gloves and organizes an awareness campaign to help respect and protect the planet.

Some days are also dedicated to cleaning the port with professional divers and volunteers in order to collect the underwater waste. This year’s edition was such a success that another one is scheduled for October (1 740 tons were collected in April).

And learn to work together?

(Philippe Baute) We've known each other for a year and have been working together with Olivia. We are now going beyond the exchange of information. We will naturally design more and more joint projects.

(Olivia Gordon-Bourcart) I also emphasize this notion of co-conception. As an example, our event programming is working this year to broaden our audience. Thus the Voiles d’Antibes which is a prestigious classic event that we host at the port Vauban opens up to other audiences and unites Sophia Antipolis businesses. The same goes for the Fishing and Aquatic Recreation Show, which this year drew the general public, industry professionals and boaters.

The voiles of antibes: a friendly ritual.

Everyone knows the sails of Antibes, the «must» of the gathering of old rigs, period sails and classic sails that meet every year i n Antibes for lively regattas. « But it's also an event for the antibois and for the city of Antibes with festive entertainment every night and a music festival» explains Yann Joannon, one of the co-organizers of the event from the Saint-Jaume bastion where the village has taken up residence.

His second, to add a pedagogical virtue: « It is an ideal opportunity to talk a bout an environment that is sometimes a little connoted. And to show that there are many ». Including women «I am proof of this even though there are still few women on the crews. But it's moving and w e're v ery well r eceived, especially here in Vauban with its family spirit» concludes Pauline.

A friendly spirit that is shared, far beyond the competitors. «We come here with family and friends to celebrate our "spring" a little bit. This is part of the history of the city and all the antibois are very attached to this kind of event.

It's really the local people who come here,» explains Christine, an antiboise , between dance steps.

Exocet offers a unique marine experience from the port of Vauban. For ages 7 to 77.

Each dolphin has its own peculiarities and seasonality.

The most sociable, the Risso dolphin (end of season) and the pilot whale (from August). And The Tursiops (Flipper) (Spring) and the Steno (all year round). The 4 species are present in the Bay of Antibes.

Sometimes good chance leads to other species, turtles, but also whales that can reach 25m! «I once spent almost an hour with a whale approaching me and then walking away as soon as I moved towards it. An unforgettable experience,» says Jean-Michel Cané.

Present on Port Vauban for 8 years, the activities offered

by Exocet attract all lovers of the sea. Anyone who once had this dream of swimming with a dolphin knows that they will be able to do it here in Antibes in privileged conditions. And if by bad luck, «the» meeting does not take place, the participants are re-invited. «We know that our customers are taking a proactive approach and preparing for it. That's why we consider contributing to the attractiveness of the site».

Four saddleries are situated on the Port Vauban to serve and assist local customers with their orders. They are strategically located, open everyday (except on certain Sundays).

Their owners enjoy coming on the port each morning to live off their passion: craftsmanship.

We met with them to further discuss their everyday reality. Some of them were busy tailoring new orders, others were completely remodelling their stores. We are happy to share that experience with you!

TONY - ALEX SELLERIE

For the past two years, Alex handed out the management of the saddlery to Tony, his 23 year old son. We met him while he was renovating boat cushions.

He has been working alongside his father since 2014 and took over after his dad decided to retire. The store has been there for 22 years and solely focuses on marine furnishings.

GUY ET MANU - FIL A SUIVRE

Guy and his employee Manu kindly greeted us. Guy, founder and manager of Fil à Suivre for the past 32 years, told us more about learning how to sew and being employed in the West Indies at a younger age, then wanting to launch his own business.

Guy owns a store located at 13 rue Sadi Carnot, Antibes where he focuses on interior renovations: decoration, cushions, curtains, etc. W hereas M anu, m ainly based a t the truck on the port, prioritizes exterior remodelling.

« I learned sewing at a very young age. A few years later, I was hired in a saddlery and I knew that this work was done for me. »

A generous culinary offer thanks to a Chef with 35 years of experience, previous owner of La Bamba in Juan-les-Pins, who ensures service 7 days a week.

Sahbira has also other ideas. He is currently working hand in hand with the Port Vauban events team in order to arouse interest. «We thought about hiring a musical band, hosting some art exhibitions or organizing some sport competitions for example».

From Nice, Sahbira is running the business with his wife after a successful professional reconversion about two years ago. Already owner of a food truck in Cannes, this civil engineer from the Lycée Léonard de Vinci, is a true passionate: «It is quite simple, I got it from my mother. I love cooking, eating and customer support».

Irina Biatturi, a romanian artist in love with Antibes, manages a group of 15 artists at the 10 rue du Docteur Rostand in the city center. During the Voiles d’Antibes, they had the opportunity to live paint the arrival of the sailing yachts.

Irina received us on the 20th of April. She interrupted her sketching work for the next production of her studio during the Voiles d’Antibes. The picture is incomplete but we are already seeing some signs of the salient features of the Fort Carré and some lights illuminating the harbour.
