Letter From The President Dear Dons, I like to think of Cathedral Girls High School, the University of San Diego High School (Uni) and Cathedral Catholic High School as a “holy trinity” of schools coming together as one school community. The 2023-2024 school year marked the 19th year on our campus in Carmel Valley, the 67th year of Dons education in San Diego and the 85th year when including Cathedral Girls High School. The reach of our Dons community extends generations and includes a geographical footprint that includes San Diego and throughout California, the country and even the world.

Our Alumni Office, first under the leadership of Sean Doyle ‘80 and now Anne Pickard Majer ’95, has worked hard to unite all three schools into one Dons family. In addition to class reunions held at The ZAK, our Alumni Office has begun to organize regional gatherings to allow alumni to reconnect with their alma mater and other graduates. Be on the lookout for more of these opportunities during the year. I know our director of alumni, Anne, would say that her experience at Uni positively impacted her life and that there is a similar sentiment among Uni, Cathedral and even some graduates of Cathedral Girls High School. I’m excited that my son, Liam ‘28, will experience the Dons community as a freshman this school year.

TABLE OF CONTENTS Another way our school aims to create impactful experiences for our community and beyond is through the opening of The Zak Myers Food Pantry & Service Learning Center. We are thrilled to open this new space for our students to actively engage in service projects and understand what it means to put our faith into action.

As I start my 10th year of leadership at Cathedral Catholic, my love and affection for the Dons family deepens. Dons of all generations, near and far, cherish and support their alma mater!

Please do not underestimate your impact at Cathedral Catholic. Our current students are reaping the benefits of sacrifices made by earlier generations of Dons and by your financial support. Unum: Engage

Making an Impact Through Service With great anticipation, the Cathedral Catholic community is preparing for the opening of the Zak Myers Food Pantry in Fall 2024. CCHS is blessed to be the first Catholic school with an onsite food pantry among the various local pantries in San Diego and Imperial counties. Through our partnership with Catholic Charities, we will pioneer a fresh approach to high school service, by providing onsite opportunities to address local food insecurity. Through the generous donation of the Myers Family, in loving memory of their son, Zak, beloved teacher and alumnus at CCHS, the Zak Myers Food Pantry incorporates a vision of faith that unites knowledge about faith into lived service towards our neighbors. The pantry, fittingly located next to The ZAK Memorial Park, De Sales Hall and St. Thérèse Chapel, provides a model of service that welcomes the outside community, while allowing active participation by students, employees and CCHS families. The Zak Myers Food Pantry will serve both those in our local community and within our own school population. We look forward to the many opportunities the pantry will provide to better educate the Dons community to compassionately engage with those in need, by participating in food drives, reclaimed and fresh rescue food

Notable Impacts Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our campus saw numerous improvements last year and throughout this summer; here are some highlights of the enhancements made possible by their contributions.

The Zak Myers Food Pantry is a compelling example of our school-wide theme, Unum: Engage. This theme focuses on the call we have been given to live in communion with one another, seeking unity and appreciation for the diverse individuals we encounter, all made in the image of God. As a school rooted in Gospel values, the entire Dons community is called to be disciples of Christ and to model Christ’s words: “...whatever you did for one of the least of my brethren, you did for me.” As an integral part of the Religion curriculum, the service learning program will engage students with the entire mission of the pantry by collecting, preparing and distributing food. In a very special way, Zak Myer’s spirit of faith, kindness and generosity will live on as a reminder for us all to love as Christ loves and to serve those in need.

(1) St. Joseph Rotunda The St. Joseph Rotunda has been beautifully renovated with new pavers and lights surrounding the St. Joseph statue.

(2) Teacher Lounge Teacher lounges were refreshed with new paint and brand new furniture.

(3) Manchester Stadium Seating New seating for the middle section of the home side of the Manchester Stadium were installed.

(4) Refreshed Assisi Lecture Hall The lecture hall in the Assisi building has been enhanced with new carpet, individual seating and walls adorned with graphics representing our four core values: character, faith, knowledge and responsibility (5) New Desks and Carpet All of the classrooms in Drexel Hall received new carpet and new desks.

(6) New AC Units Over the summer, 50 out of 150 air conditioning units were replaced, with the remaining units scheduled for replacement over the next two years.

Board of Regents Cathedral Catholic’s Board of Regents supports Cardinal McElroy and the school’s Board of Directors in providing oversight and care for the Cathedral Catholic community. Specifically, the Board of Regents consults on matters related to the school’s Catholic mission, finances, facilities, admissions, public relations and school advancement. The Board of Regents carry out periodic evaluations of school policies, programs and objectives, always in light of the sound principles of Catholic education and social justice.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, every member of the Board of Regents made a generous donation to Cathedral Catholic.
