Providing Care

RENEWING   LIVES Proclaiming Christ as Lord and demonstrating His love through health care.

“Christ Community was a Godsend for us.”

SEPTEMBER 2018

When Cathy and her husband, Robert, came to Christ Community six years ago, they didn’t have any health insurance. “We were both working retail and had lost our health insurance,” she says. “One of the girls that worked for me said, ‘You need to call Christ Community and make an appointment.’ ” “When my husband went back to work and got group benefits it never crossed his mind to do anything but come here. The care, the atmosphere, even though he could go anywhere, he never thought of changing. The same with me.” Cathy said, “When we found Christ Community, it was a godsend. It was an answered prayer. We had no insurance for years. My husband worked for the same company for 30 years. When he lost that job, our whole lifestyle changed. We just couldn’t afford insurance. And we’re not the only people in those shoes. If there were a million Christ Community’s it wouldn’t be enough to meet the needs.” Your support makes it possible for Christ Community to provide care to Cathy, her husband and other families like theirs. Will you send a gift today to help your neighbors who need medical and dental care? Pediatric superheroes Page 2

An Unexpected Encounter

“I’m convinced God allowed Dr. Ayers to hear something that day.”

Routine exam uncovers serious heart condition Sarabeth has been coming to Christ Community since 2013.

Recently, I was looking at my schedule and saw a patient listed that I had not seen in years. I knew this encounter might be a long one - filled with complicated medical and social problems. The last time I saw this patient, she was in crisis.

“I’ve had a slight heart murmur my whole life. In May, I started becoming fatigued and having heart palpitations.”

She had serious problems that included needing blood transfusions and having an uncontrollable seizure disorder. She had no income, no transportation and didn’t have much family support.

“I told Dr. Ayers. He checked my heart. I noticed he seemed to be listening a little more diligently. The next thing I know, he’s referring me to a cardiologist to get an echocardiogram done.”

I was very encouraged after seeing her! After several visits to Christ Community, her medical issues are under control. She also has access to consistent transportation and is able to work.

After some testing, the cardiologist found a hole in Sarabeth’s heart and a tear in one of her heart valves.

It’s such an encouragement to see how years of care from our team at Christ Community helped free this patient from a medical crisis and get back on her feet. As a result, she is healthier and financially stable.

“When I saw Dr. Ayers again, he couldn’t hear anything! I believe the Lord let him hear it that day. The cardiologist said that, if he had not heard it, I would have ended up on the heart transplant list.” Surgery will fix both problems for Sarabeth. “Christ Community is thorough. They listen to you. I’m from Aiken and I could find a doctor in Aiken, but I’d rather drive over here because I know I get the care. I appreciate them wanting to pray with me, because I believe in prayer. Prayer works.”

Thank you for your part in her story. Without your support, we wouldn’t be able to help patients like this. “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, and lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up, and poor have good news preached to them.” -Matt. 11:4-5
