We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Cecilio Rodriguez for winning the 2023 Truck Raffle Drawing! He obtained his ticket from a devoted alum. We are grateful to all the participants and supporters who contributed to the success of this annual fundraiser organized by our Parent Club during the Fall season.

ADMISSIONS The Admissions Team had an exciting and successful recruitment season for 22-23! We welcomed Julian Marrufo '94 as our Admissions Outreach Coordinator, adding his Central Catholic experience and passion to our campus tours and recruitment efforts. Our team of four talented individuals has been hard at work bringing new students to our beloved community. Throughout the year, we offered various opportunities for prospective students and families to engage with us. We kicked off with our 8th Annual Middle School Tailgate, welcoming over 200 middle schoolers to a Friday night football game. This was followed by the return of our 8th-Grade Visit Days, where we hosted students from area Charter, Catholic, and Private schools. We also organized our first fall eGamers Night, with over seventy 8thgraders competing in an eSports tournament. We are excited to welcome prospective students and their families for campus tours and shadow days, knowing that these personalized experiences are vital in their decisionmaking process. The positive feedback from our Class of 2027 applicants demonstrates the impact of these visits. We are proud to report a strong freshman class of 142 students, with our overall school enrollment trending positively towards 505. As we prepare to build the Class of 2028, we look forward to meeting new families and sharing the gift of Central Catholic. We extend our sincere gratitude to our community - their unwavering support. For more information visit Admissions at cchs-satx.org/admissions.

CAMPUS MINISTRY NEW DIRECTOR OF CAMPUS MINISTRY Hola, Aloha, Bonjour, Guten Tag, and Hello! I am Joseph Nugent, your newly appointed Director of Campus Ministry. Thirteen years ago, I was embraced by the loving Marianist family, and ever since then, youth and young adult ministry have been integral parts of my life. From leading retreat programs in Canada to participating in an Encuentro in Peru, and from serving in Campus Ministry at St. Mary's University to teaching and holding administrative roles in Hawaii, my journey has been filled with enriching experiences. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share my faith with
all members of our Central family. However, I am particularly excited about walking alongside our young men as they navigate the various questions and challenges that arise on their path towards becoming faith-centered adults. Together, we will foster meaningful discussions, explore spiritual growth, and support one another in our individual journeys of faith. Let's embark on this transformative journey together and make Central Catholic a haven of spiritual exploration and growth.

LIFE RETREAT Over the summer twelve students from our Button LIFE team had the opportunity to attend LIFE Camp in Dayton, Ohio with Marianist students from different parts of the country. This week-long event was filled with engaging sessions focused on various aspects of the Marianist charisms, including small faith communities, sacraments, prayer, leadership development, and social justice education. The students were inspired by what they learned and are eagerly looking forward to applying these teachings at Central Catholic in the ongoing school year. Their experience at the event has filled them with enthusiasm and a sense of purpose as they prepare to contribute to the school community. Button LIFE fosters faith formation, leadership, and an appreciation for Marianist ideals, engaging CCHS students and their friends.
CAMINO DE SANTIAGO
BY TIM HANSEN, TEACHER AND VARSITY GOLF COACH Ever since I saw the movie “The Way” in 2013 I felt God’s urging for me to embrace the challenge of the Camino de Santiago and walk the Camino Frances. The Camino de Santiago is a spiritual experience, spanning nearly 500 miles and taking over 30 days to complete. The Camino Frances route starts in France and ends in Spain, leading to the holy city of Santiago de Compostela and the Cathedral believed to be the final resting place of St. James the Great. I was finally able to realize my dream to walk the Camino Frances this past summer. It was, beyond any doubt, the most significant experience of my life. Words cannot express the joy felt in the opportunity to leave your daily life behind and go on a journey where you are placed alone with only your God and conscience. Photo of the Brigade at the Veteran’s Day Review
The Corps of Cadets at Central Catholic High School had an exceptional 2022-2023 school year and is currently enjoying a promising start to the 2023-2024 school year. Eight cadets from JROTC receieved nomincations to prestigious service academies. Notably, four cadets have received appointments to the class of 2028, with two securing placements in the Air Force Academy and two in the Naval Academy, earning recognition as an exemplary program. Last year, we won a total of 65 trophies across eight special teams, with the Chaminade Guard Drill team and Color Guard Teams becoming national champions for the second consecutive year. Fifteen cadets gained civic engagement and government experience at the state level, while eight attended summer seminars at all five service academies. The Class of 2023 valedictorian and salutatorian were JROTC cadets who were recognized for their academic excellence and leadership skills, inspiring future cadets. The corps actively participated in the Wreaths Across America initiative and organized the MS Walk, demonstrating their commitment to service and community impact. In summary, Central Catholic High School's Corps of Cadets achieved notable success in competitions, honored veterans, and showed unwavering dedication to service during the past school year, embodying the values of discipline and excellence for years to come. 10

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION FRANK MEDINA IV '85 I am Frank Medina IV, a proud first-generation alumnus from the Class of 1985 and currently serving as the President of the Alumni Association. My strong connection to Central Catholic, as a former student, athlete, and parent of an alum, fuels my dedication to the institution. I am honored to lead a committed group of individuals who uphold our shared principles. Your participation as an alumni is invaluable and shapes the Central Catholic experience for current and future students. The year 2023 was an excellent one for the Central Catholic Alumni Association. The Alumni Softball Tournament crowned new champions in the Masters ('94-96) and Juniors Division ('09-10). The Alumni Round-Up and Remembrance was a time of camaraderie and fun with our current brothers while honoring those we lost. The Senior Luncheon was joyous as we welcomed the graduating class of 2023 to the Alumni Brotherhood. The Alumni Association also hosted the first-ever Hall of Fame event that honored new distinguished alums William Velasquez '62 and Carlos Enrico '72. The 2023 Alumni Golf Tournament was a record-breaking event, raising nearly $57,000. These funds will be directly allocated to support student development programs, including athletics, JROTC, and band. Another big event for the Alumni Association was the 2023 Sporting Clays Classic, which raised over $26,000. This money will be fully dedicated to funding scholarships for deserving Central Catholic Students.
OUR MISSION The Alumni Association, with a strong membership of over 10,000 alumni, actively supports Central Catholic's mission through various donations, including scholarships and contributions towards school programs and facilities. The association has elected officers, including President, Frank Medina IV '85, Vice President Manuel Sanchez '85, Treasurer Fred Villarreal '84, Sergeant-at-Arms Matt Delgado '91, and Secretary Aaron Elizondo '10. ATHLETICS When a coach reviews film with his staff, team or by himself, the images of the games come to life. Clip by clip, plays are dissected and assessed with adjustments made to create a better outcome. Our hope is that we establish a standard that plays an instrumental part in the development of our athletes as men on and off the field of competition. The “Year in Review” tells the story of our Athletic Philosophy. It depicts the hard work and commitment that our athletes and coaches put into their seasons. Athletic Philosophy •
Being an athlete at Central Catholic is more than a winning record or who what the score reads on the scoreboard; it is about winning the deeper more meaningful lessons of life through the experience of athletics.
•
Student athletes who compete for Central Catholic quickly learn they are expected to play at a level of excellence that not only helps them develop as players and teammates, but in a manner that honors the tradition of those who came before them.
•
Our mission-centered athletic program helps our athletes experience that they’re part of something bigger. They understand that playing at Central Catholic is more than a sport, it’s a ministry.
•
Walking shoulder to shoulder with our athletic successes, we have dedicated, committed, knowledgeable, and caring coaches that have played an instrumental role in what we have accomplished.
•
When you care about the PERSON behind the PLAYER, then you're more likely to earn that player's trust, respect, and loyalty.
•
Along with an athletes’ attitudes and effort, there are three important components to a successful program. First, solid habits must be instilled in every player. Habits then create a standard which becomes an expectation of every team in the athletic program. Lastly, these habits and standards are worked on every day in practices and games.
•
Our goal is to have a strong commitment before the game to being competitive, focusing on detail, and executing to the best of our ability.

REMEMBERING COACH MIKE SANTIAGO: A CELEBRATION OF LIFE & GRATITUDE FOR COACH DR. WILLIAM GOODLOE
Earlier this year, Head Football Coach Mike Santiago passed away due to cancer. To honor his memory, Central Catholic organized a Celebration of Life for him. The event was attended by Coach Santiago's family, friends, as well as past and present players. Coach Santiago had a deep affection for all of his players and Central Catholic's football program, leaving behind a legacy of passion, care, and commitment to excellence in every player he coached. He will be missed immensely by everyone who knew him. May he rest in peace and perpetual light shine upon him. In addition, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Coach Dr. William Goodloe for stepping in and guiding our student-athletes mentally and physically throughout the successful 2022-2023 football season. His leadership and dedication were instrumental in maintaining the well-being and growth of our team.
WELCOME NEW SOCCER HEAD COACH WALTER RULE
This year we are excited to announce the appointment of Walter Rule as the new head coach of our esteemed varsity soccer program. Coach Rule's hiring comes on the heels of a successful 2022-2023 Varsity Season in which the team reached the TAPPS State Finalist position. Additionally, Coach Rule recently celebrated a remarkable milestone of achieving 500 wins in his coaching career. He brings a wealth of experience, particularly in coaching some of San Antonio's top soccer programs. His impressive track record includes
numerous accolades and honors, most notably his induction into the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches Organization (TASCO) Hall of Fame in 2014. Central Catholic is honored to have Coach Rule join our soccer program and the CCHS community. CCHS-SATX.ORG
