Dear Lanakila Members, Family and Friends: We will be having a Candidates Fair and celebrating our nation’s 250th birthday on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 9 – 10:30 a.m. at Lanakila Senior Center. We hope you will join us and meet the candidates as well as enjoy a fun 4th of July barbecue with us. Our Summer Class Session has begun with over 60 class and club activities each week and there are excursions and educational presentations galore! So much to do and enjoy with one another. Also, Save the Date for our next Show and Sell, which is scheduled on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Have an awesome summer! Cultural Club Reports OKINAWA NENCHOSHA CLUB UPDATE By Phil Uyehara
Club Events May 28th: AARP—Weapons of Fraud. Peter Inoue shared very practical, straightforward ways to protect yourself from frauds and scams which may come from the Internet, phone calls, or your email. He also explained how we can be more careful with our passwords. 6/4/2026: Fun Day. We split up into 4 teams of 8 members each, competing in the ring toss, bean bag tic-tac-toe, cornhole, and golf putting. It was loud, lively, and very competitive! 6/11/2026: King Kamehameha Day Holiday 6/18/2026: Tevita Apina and Amy Katsumoto serenaded the club with Japanese Enka, Hawaiian, and Okinawan songs, with members singing along! We had a farewell lunch on June 23rd at Ruby Tuesday at Moanalua Shopping Center. Carol will certainly be missed. ALOHA!!!

Cultural Club Updates JAPANESE CULTURAL CLUB UPDATE By Clarice Kumura
Tanabata Matsuri (Star Festival) Tanabata Matsuri, the Star Festival, is celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh month. Tanabata commemorates the meeting of two lovers who live on opposite sides of the Milky Way. They were allowed to meet only once a year on this night. To celebrate the festival, people write poems and special wishes on colorful strips of paper called tanzaku and hang them from the limbs of bamboo trees. You can write your own special wish and hang them on bamboo branches set up in front of the house. July Events:

June Recap – June 1 – Emergency Preparedness – Representatives from the American Red Cross spoke about emergency preparedness and the importance of being ready for hurricanes, tsunamis, and flash flooding, They shared a simple guide to ten essential items to prepare before a natural disaster occurs. Bottled water, Food, Radio and Flashlights, Electronics, Health and Medical supplies, Clothing, Hygiene and Personal Caré items, First Aid and Safety supplies. Cash and important documents, Supplies for unique needs. June 8 - Shigin Performance -Students from the Shigin Class, taught by Sensei Hideko Tokugawa, presented a distinctive performance featuring the melodic and vibrato style of poetry recitation. The disciplined program included a narration of a poem about Princess Kaiulani. June 15 – Music and Dance Memories - Brian Suzuki shared a video featuring singers and dancers from the 1940’s and 1950‘s. The presentation brought back nostalgic memories as we watched performances by Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, Donald O’Cpnnor, Gene Kelly, and actress Elizabeth Taylor. Cultural Club Updates FILIPINO CULTURAL CLUB UPDATE By Beth Miguel It’s another month and we are now halfway ending the year 2026. Lord, we at FCCH thank you whole heartedly for your divine protection. We are hoping that our club, FCCH will flourish to the end and for your continued support to help our President, madame Wilma Ibay to be strong and preserving so she could support and take care of her ailing husband, Mr. Rudy Ibay. Please bless and protect them both. The following dates are our club activities at the Center: 5-21-26- Leonie and I (Beth) visited our club adviser, Mr. Rudy Ibay at the Kuakini Hospital. Thanks god, he is OK, smiling and eating chicharron (crispy pork skin). 5-22-26- President Wilma Ibay, Amy Guillermo, and Beth Miguel attended the Memorial Day celebration commemorating all of the deceased members of the clubs. That includes the FCCH members, the late Eufemia Vicente and the late Cresente Guillermo. They were honored with flowers and lighted candles. Lunch was served, thanks. 5-23-26- FCCH meeting. Did the routine praying, singing both Filipino and American anthem and the practicing Filipino dances and line dance in preparation of the 54th FCCH anniversary on 8/15/26 at Ala Moana Hotel. Due to my hectic schedule, I announced my resignation a member and secretary of the club but stayed back due to madam Wilma’s situation. 6-8-26- FCCH member Carmen Bautista celebrated her 78th birthday at Jade Dynasty, 14 people attended, it was a 7 course Chinese dish, thanks for inviting us. 6-13-26- FCCH meeting- did the routine. Praying, practice dancing in preparation of another Filipino clubs party “The Solot Solot club of Hawaii” where in some of the FCCH members will be performing at Golden Coin Restaurant on Sept. 5, 2026. This concludes FCCH latest activities, thanks & take care!

CHINESE CULTURAL CLUB UPDATE By Beverly Mau After a leave of absence for 5 months, President Mau returned and conducted the June 5th meeting. It was such a joy to see 14 enthusiastic and happy members present. Edward Lee brought new member Mr. sheng Jen Hsieh. For Father’s Day President Mau gave each Dad a Hawaiian “Aloha” bracelet. On June 19th Club members and guests enjoyed delicious dim sum, chicken salad, and gon lo mein lunch at Happy Day’s Restaurant in Kaimuki. For dessert we had a choice of egg tart, sweet bean bun or gin dui (round mochi ball dumpling). We did jang ken po for the centerpiece. Lucky winners were Miss Lum and Erna Cabral. We sang Happy Birthday in both English and Chinese. Each celebrant received a gift of Saporo noodles for longevity. A group picture of those wearing their purple Year of the Horse, was also taken by Beverly Mau. They all looked beautiful. We had the opportunity to bid Carol Burrows farewell as she leaves for Seattle, Washington, to live with her brother. She was given a purple crown flower Lei, a box of Hawaiian Host chocolate candy, mango chutney made by Dorothy Mau, and an instant noodle. We sang “Aloha Oe”. She was wished a safe journey and she’s always welcome back to visit us. To you Carol, Aloha until we meet again! We welcomed more new members, Madeline Lum and Carol Anzai. May you enjoy our meetings every first and third Fridays of each month, unless it’s a holiday. A Happy 4th of July to all LMPSC friends. Wear your Red, white and blue to our next meeting. Until then, Joy ghin or See You Again soon!
