INTRODUCING THE COBB THRIVES GIFT GUIDE

Dear Community Stakeholder, Congratulations! You have opened a catalog called the Cobb Thrives Gift Guide. With that small act, you have shown your interest in helping Cobb and everyone in and around it to thrive! You, my dear reader, are a stakeholder! A key element of Cobb Community Foundation’s mission statement is “connecting donors who care with causes that matter.” We do that continuously with our charitable fundholders, daily with our social media, monthly with our newsletter, quarterly with our bus tours and field trips, and semi-annually with our Corporate Champion Roundtable. Now, we are pleased to introduce, for its inaugural year, the Cobb Thrives Gift Guide. This Guide offers you and your family, club, or business the opportunity to support vetted nonprofits serving Cobb County by helping fund some of those “harder to fund items” that increase their impact. A group of trained community volunteers selected the 30 featured organizations from among 59 total applicants. Those ultimately chosen made the most compelling case for up to three gift requests that, in total, do not exceed $7,500. Help Cobb and everyone in and around it to thrive! On the following two pages, you’ll find some information about our community that may be helpful as you flip through the Gift Guide and consider the gift (or gifts!) that appeals to you. Once you decide, either scan or click on the link of the item you would like to help fund and follow the instructions. You’ll find additional options for giving on the inside back cover. We are so grateful to all our partners who helped make this possible, specifically the United Way of Greater Atlanta – NW Metro Region. For years, we have been working together to identify creative and efficient ways to leverage our resources to support the nonprofit community, and the Cobb Thrives Gift Guide is just one of the results. Happy Giving!

Shari Martin

“So looking forward to sitting around the Thanksgiving table with my family and deciding together which gift we want to make!” – Nicole Lawson Doll, Northwest Regional Director, United Way of Greater Atlanta

UNITED WAY CHILD WELL-BEING INDEX In 2017, United Way of Greater Atlanta introduced its Child Well-Being Agenda. The goal? To make lasting improvements in the well-being of children, families and the communities that surround them. The guiding question was and still is “how are the children?” What does a community look like for the answer to be “all the children are well?” • Babies are born healthy • Families are financially stable • Children grow up in secure homes and safe • Adults are educated, employed and housed neighborhoods and have healthy food and access to medical care • Kids read proficiently by third grade • Teens graduate from high school prepared for college, careers and life United Way developed the Child Well-Being Index as a compass to collectively, with nonprofit, business and government partners, direct resources in ways that can most powerfully improve child well-being and transform lives for the better.

Look inside to see a catalog of nonprofit project requests. Each gift represents items that a nonprofit needs but may not have the funds to purchase, especially in the current economy. The maximum request from each nonprofit is $7,500, but a gift of any size can be directed to the project of your choice. Give a little or a lot to help kids in foster care, animals that need to be rescued, families that need shelter, and more.

COBB COMMUNITY FOUNDATION’S NEEDS ASSESSMENT AND ASSET MAPPING STUDY In 2019, Cobb Community Foundation engaged Georgia Center for Nonprofits to conduct the Cobb Human Services Needs Assessment and Asset Mapping Study. The study is being updated in 2024; however, we know certain key takeaways remain unchanged. Cobb County’s quality of life numbers are very strong across the board, and particularly so when compared with the State of Georgia. However, the disparities across the county are significant. A heat map was created that breaks down Cobb County into individual census tracts, using various indicators to illustrate by color the degree of need related to four indexes: Education, Workforce and Economics, Housing and Health. For each specific index, red indicates a higher level of need whereas green indicates the lowest level of need. On our site, you can view the details behind the color coding by hovering over a particular census tract. Since this study was published, we have been working to tackle the “gaps and overlaps” in services. We have been facilitating collaborations, bringing organizations together to provide their respective services where needed most, typically, at the location of another trusted provider in the community. There are many essential community services and necessary learning and social supports that are often overlooked but are integral for a community to truly THRIVE. This is your opportunity to make sure they have the support they need to provide the help that is needed.

Wish 3 - Camp photo albums Quantity - 50 Price per unit - $30 Total Request: $1500 Total Amount: $7500

What makes this organization unique? We are unique in that we provide comprehensive services for youth in foster care (from age 6-18+). A relationship is initiated through our camps and continued through our mentoring programs. Our goal is to develop strong, lasting relationships with these youth so they have the skills and support necessary for success. What community need or problem does your organization address? Statistics show that youth who age out of state care are over-represented in the unemployed, homeless and prison populations. Birthdays should be special, and the party and gifts we provide are often the only time their birthday is celebrated. Christmas celebrations with gifts also help provide an opportunity to create positive memories, connect, earn trust, and an open door to speak hope into their lives. Our photo albums are often the only source of curated pictures from their childhood they take with Give Now them as a keepsake into adulthood.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: How can I tell if a gift has already been funded?

Q: What is a Donor Advised Fund?

A: Easy! Go for the most up-to-date information.

A: Thought you’d never ask! A Donor Advised Fund is a charitable “account” you establish with a public charity (preferably, Cobb Community Foundation) that allows you to give when most convenient and tax-advantageous for you then distribute to the 501(c)(3) public charities of your choice when you are ready. Learn more here or email CCFTeam@ CobbFoundation.org or just call us at 770-859-2366 and let’s see if a Donor Advised Fund makes sense for you.

A: No problem! Your contribution will automatically be applied to another one of the organization’s gifts. Q: What happens if ALL of an organization’s gifts are funded? A: No worries! The organization will still receive your contribution to use however it will help them the most! Q: Is there any fee being deducted from my gift? A: Not by us! The only fee that could reduce your gift is the credit card processing fee charged by the processor. You have the option, though, to increase your contribution to help cover these fees. Q: Can I move my existing Donor Advised Fund to Cobb Community Foundation? A: Absolutely! A simple form creates your new DAF with us. All you need to do then is request a grant of the balance of your current fund at your current provider to Cobb Community Foundation from your new DAF.

Q: Why should I establish my Donor Advised Fund with Cobb Community Foundation? A: Great question! If it’s important to you that Cobb County and everyone in and around it thrive, then choose an organization that knows our communities, needs and the organizations who are making a difference and offers opportunities to mobilize resources for maximum impact! While our community is our greatest area of interest and expertise, you can give to any 501(c)(3) organization anywhere!
