LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Hello! Welcome to the Center! I am so excited to begin my first term as president of the Center’s board of directors. For the past several years, I have been a member of the board and volunteer coordinator, primarily working on projects related to volunteering at the Center. In this new role, I will be working with David, our talented staff, and dedicated board of directors to ensure that the best theater, music, art, special events, and classes will be available to you and our community for a very long time. I am so proud to be associated with the Center. Like so many, I had driven by the quirky little house on Route 28 for years, thinking I have got to check that place out. Well, life is busy, and it took me until 2010 to finally visit. I remember walking through the main theater entrance and into the gallery for the first time – I immediately thought: I am home. I found more than great theater, music, and art – I found wonderful friends and a real community of people who love the arts and are terrific fun to be around. My great hope is that the Center can be a home for you, too. Do check out our programming. A fan of musicals? Don’t miss Nunsense or Annie, but why not try one of the edgier shows on the Black Box schedule, too? Was art your favorite class in school? Check out the new sculpture class or try your hand at drawing. Drop by and visit the gallery to see the extraordinary work produced by local, national, and international artists. Tap dancing, yoga, show choir, folk and classical music, jazz performances, play readings, Wine & Music, Broadway stars, and Broadway moms – the list goes on and on. We truly do have it all at Cotuit Center for the Arts. At YOUR arts center, a welcoming hub for everyone in our community. Be a part of it. Join us. Make it your home. Best always, Kathie Lynch Nutting

GREETINGS!

Welcome to Cotuit Center for the Arts! If this is your first visit, I hope it’s the first of many. We are so much more than a theater, a gallery, a classroom – we are a vibrant community. We are a welcoming hub where everyone can find a way to be fulfilled. I have often said that I believe the arts are as important to our well-being as the food we eat and the air we breathe. What has developed on this campus over the last several years is remarkable and special. Thousands of you call Cotuit Center for the Arts your cultural home. Whether you volunteer, attend theater productions and concerts, make important financial contributions,

4

or take classes, you are the reason we continue to reach for the highest possible artistic quality. And 2017 will be a year of great experiences for us to share together. Our programming is so exciting – from Mainstage and Black Box theater and concerts to ongoing and new classes, there is something for everyone. We will be edgy, funny, thought-provoking, and familial. We will present a Stephen Sondheim masterpiece and introduce a whole new gaggle of orphans. We’ll showcase world class virtuosi, local favorites, and Broadway superstars. And we’ll offer exhibitions of some of the best visual art you will see anywhere.

We will also be launching a new five- year strategic plan. The board of directors and our staff have dedicated themselves to working with me to ensure we are here for you for many years to come. We have an amazing staff, by the way, who work with such dedication – I don’t say often enough how proud I am of each and everyone one of them – thanks so much, gang!

sponsorship, fundraising events, and donor contributions. We have great plans for the future, and we need your support now more than ever. So please consider upgrading your membership (What? You’re not already a member???) or contributing to our annual fund. And as always, please let me know your thoughts, your dreams, and your ideas. We are here for you, after all. Now sit back, relax, and let us Entertain, Educate, Illuminate, and Inspire you.

Our focus this year will be on the quality of our programs and our pathway to ensure financial sustainability prior to expansion. We have worked very hard over the past several years to increase revenue through our membership,

With much gratitude, David Kuehn Executive Director

We are now a Points of Light Service Enterprise! Cotuit Center for the Arts is pleased to announce that we have been certified by Points of Light as a Service Enterprise! A Service Enterprise is an organization that fundamentally leverages volunteers and their skills throughout their organization to successfully deliver on its social mission. Research conducted by the TCC Group, a national program and evaluation firm, found that organizations operating as Service Enterprises outperform peer organizations on all aspects of organizational effectiveness and are more adaptable, sustainable, and capable of scaling their work. Cotuit Center for the Arts completed an extensive assessment, over 20 hours of training and consulting and extensive internal planning and change to better integrate volunteers in our day-to-day operations. By achieving this level of excellence and certification, Cotuit Center for the Arts is now better equipped to leverage the time and talent of volunteers and better meet our mission. NUNSENSE by Dan Goggin March 23 – April 9 Join us for the Cotuit production of this classic musical comedy! Nunsense is a hilarious spoof about the misadventures of five nuns trying to manage a fundraiser (their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials). Featuring star turns, tap and ballet dancing, an audience quiz, and comic surprises, this show has become an international phenomenon.

Sunday in the Park with George by Stephen Sondheim July 6 – 30 This stunning masterpiece centers on enigmatic painter George Seurat and his search for love, inspiration, and “the art of making art.” One of the most acclaimed musicals ever, this Pulitzer Prize winner features a glorious score. Sunday in the Park with George promises to be the theatrical event of the summer.

One Man, Two Guvnors by Richard Bean October 5 – 22 Come laugh with us! This uproarious comedy features slapstick at its finest, with actors falling down stairs, slamming doors, using double entendre, and interacting with the audience. The permanently ravenous Francis Henshall finds himself working for both a gangster and a criminal in hiding, both of whom are linked in a web of schemes, extortions, and romantic associations. To prevent discovery, Francis must do everything he can to keep his two guvnors apart.

ANNIE book by Thomas Meehan music by Charles Strouse lyrics by Martin Charnin November 21 – December 17 The timeless story. The classic characters. The unforgettable songs. The popular comic strip heroine takes center stage in one of the world’s best-loved musicals. Due to popular demand, this beloved holiday musical will be presented on Cotuit Center for the Arts’ mainstage every three years featuring new orphans and guaranteed holiday cheer for the whole family.

COME BE A PART OF THE ACT! We invite local singers, actors, or other volunteer performers to “try out” for the roles in our live stage shows. We regularly hold open-call auditions and have an email bulletin that can keep you posted on auditions and other theatrical volunteer opportunities. You can sign up at our website artsonthecape.org, or email info@cotuitcenterforthearts.org for more information. In addition to actors, we always need help with set building, costume construction, backstage help, lighting, and sound operators. Come be a part of the magic of live theater at Cotuit!

A Cape-wide grass roots celebration of arts and culture Cotuit Center for the Arts is pleased to be participating in ArtSpring Cape Cod, a Cape-wide festival of arts and culture, taking place in the spring of 2017. The goal is to engage as many artists, organizations, and communities as possible in an exploration of the important and topical theme of Freedom of Expression. The ArtSpring tap root is a partnership between Cotuit Center for the Arts and Cape Symphony, which will produce Every Good Boy Deserves Favor by Andre Previn and Tom Stoppard. Participants may schedule events as simple as an exhibit or as complex as a town-wide street fair – anything that invites the public to “explore, experience, create” between April 27 and May 7. ArtSpring’s organizing committee includes representatives from JFK Museum, Highfield Hall, Cape and Islands Theater Coalition, WHAT, Wellfleet Preservation Hall, Cape Cod Museum of Art, Cape Cod Community College, Cultural Center of Cape Cod, and Eventide Theater Company, among others. The Cape Museum of Art, for instance, will

host “Freedom of Expression,” a National Juried Exhibition; Friends of the Cape & Islands Theater Coalition will have a Panel Discussion on Freedom, Propaganda, & Dissidence; and the Cultural Center of Cape Cod will host an exhibit and an open mic on the theme. Organizations or individuals interested in scheduling an event should visit artspringcapecod.org to submit information and access a toolbox that will help them publicize their involvement. The festival is supported by a grant from the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, but seeks support from businesses and individuals interested in bolstering the Cape’s cultural economy and enhancing its quality of life. “ArtSpring is meant to elevate the Cape’s appeal as a tourist destination but also to acquaint residents with all that the cultural community has to offer,” says CCftA Executive Director David Kuehn. “The festival will be an amazing opportunity for people near and far.” Questions or offers of support may be directed to the committee via artspringcapecod@gmail.com.

2017 WINTER/Spring EDUCATION Hi, there! Christine Ernst here – also the FACB – also formerly known as a Board member and the Season Producer here at the Center. I have recently joined the staff full-time to run our educational programming, write our grants, and manage our outreach programs. I’ve been working hard since January! Once I get a handle on our software program (anyone out there familiar with non-profit management software – yup, just like that) – and create some giant spreadsheets to track all of our grants (each grant is unique! why, it’s like inventing the wheel every time! imagine that!) – and get to know our awesome faculty and our classroom spaces (ask me about folding tables, why don’t you) – and figure out how not to screw up the website or the calendar (sorry, Daniel and Cindy) – and get into the Center’s daily rhythm, not to mention Bagel Tuesdays (thank you, dear Kim Baker), I have big plans. Well, okay, modest plans. For starters, I hope to create some new classes (Shakespeare! Stagecraft! Jewelry-making!), develop some ongoing monthly workshops (bring Artful Thursdays back! Women’s wellness! Irish history!), establish an A cappella group

38

(Centertonix!), create some cross-pollination and collaboration with Cape Cod Academy, and mine some more classroom space here on campus (I firmly believe basements CAN be beautiful). I am lucky in that I have a long history with the Center already (I actually know where the extension cords are) and have some solid programming to build upon – good foundation for what I hope to accomplish. The Center has been my family’s second home for many years, and I am one of its most passionate cheerleaders. Education is our first “pillar” (Educate/Entertain/Illuminate/Inspire), and is at the very heart of our mission – we are indeed a welcoming hub making the creation and experience of art accessible, nurturing, and thrilling to all. It is certainly thrilling to me – and I am so very proud to be part of The Team. I am on campus most weekdays – my office is at the back of the Admin Building next to Tracy’s – come and say hi – bring me a good idea for a class (what would you like to teach? to take?), or a suggestion for a grant, or some good advice on outreach – I’m the newbie and am taking all comers. We are in this together, folks – lots of exciting stuff in store – stay tuned!

Complete detailed descriptions of all classes and workshops are available on our website: ArtsOnTheCape.org

Neil Grant: Sculptor

Neil Grant is an English sculptor who has recently finished a twenty-year corporate career to dedicate himself to his craft. Neil has been sculpting for the past seven years and has studied under nationally recognized sculptors such as Philippe Faraut and Brian Booth Craig. Neil recently began teaching portrait sculpture classes here at Cotuit. CCftA: So excited to talk to you, Neil! How did you come to be an artist? NG: I was working as a corporate executive in Miami eight years ago and after a stressful day at the office, I found myself playing with one of the kid’s Play-Doh sets. I thought, “This is very relaxing. I wonder if I can make something.” My first sculpture was a goblin drowning in a sea of paperwork. It all took off from there: I graduated from Play Doh to clay and then interview by Christine Ernst

60

began to find people who could teach me to sculpt. I’ve studied under some great sculptors such as Philippe Faraut and Brian Booth Craig. About 18 months ago, I decided to take the plunge and become a full-time sculptor. CCftA: So how’d you end up on the Cape? NG: It’s actually my wife’s fault. She finished her Masters and was looking for a job at the same time I had finished working to sculpt full-time. She found a position in

Yarmouth and so we moved from our home in Tennessee. We’ve been here nearly a year now and really love it.

with the appetite to learn more and go on to produce great art. I’m a firm believer that art can be taught, no matter whether you think you have a talent for it or not.

CCftA: Can you tell us a little about your home life?

CCftA: Finally – why do you create art?

NG: My wife Kelly and I have two daughters – Charlotte and Sophie – who are 11 and 8 years old respectively. We have also recently adopted a rescue dog for the kids. His name is Pete. He is rather naughty but well-loved nevertheless. CCftA: Why do you like teaching at the Center? NG: The Center has been supersupportive of setting up a ceramics program in Cotuit. There was nothing locally when I arrived on the Cape, and now we have a classroom we can use and we are in the process of installing a kiln at the Center. Hopefully this is the start of something bigger. I’d like to expand the types of sculpting courses being offered in Cotuit and work with the Center to introduce hand building and pottery as time progresses. It’s a pleasure to teach at the Center because the staff are enthusiastic and I get to work with some great students.

NG: For me, art is how I put my ideas out into the world. While I’m a representational sculptor, I like my art to be more than just a realistic copy of the model. In each piece I make I want to convey either an emotion or message to the viewer. Because of this, my art can be humorous, political, emotional etc. – but hopefully not boring. CCftA: Oh, wait – how about a nifty fact about yourself? NG: I’m actually a qualified Marine Biologist. I’ve also starred in a Bollywood production in India.

CCftA: And what do you hope your students will take away from your class? NG: The aim of my class is to demystify sculpting and to teach its techniques in easy to follow steps so that students can produce pieces they can be proud of. I hope that at the end of a course students walk away

THE ART OF MAKING ART by David Kuehn

“Bit by bit, putting it together. Piece by piece, only way to make a work of art. Ev’ry moment makes a contribution, every little detail plays a part. Having just the vision’s no solution, ev’ry thing depends on execution.” I’m often asked how our programming season is chosen. It’s a difficult question to answer. At the end of the day, I have to make a decision. It’s not something that can be made by committee – there would never be consensus! I strive for balance – musical comedy, musical drama, productions where children and

64

families participate both on stage and as audiences, works that challenge and make us uncomfortable, new works, classic works. I look at the history of what we’ve done. I think of the budget – the bottom line. We need to be commercially successful, but we also want to be artistically adventuresome. Then I close my eyes

and go to sleep, and the shows our talented actors and directors have begged me to present flood my dreams in a loud cacophony: Urinetown! Sweet Charity! Annie Get Your Gun! An Enemy of the People! Arabian Nights! Chess! Rent! My Fair Lady! Psycho Beach Party! Roar of the Grease Paint! Of Mice and Men! Barfly! 6 Characters in Search of and Author! Freud’s Last Session! Drowsy Chaperone! Hairspray! Carousel! Man of LaMancha! Mother Courage! Assassins! OK – you get the picture.

“Art isn’t easy. Ev’ry minor detail is a major decision, have to keep things in scale, have to hold to your vision.” In addition to the main stage theater productions, we produce eleven or twelve shows in the Black Box, plus all kinds of concerts and special events. And of course, we are first and foremost an arts education organization. There is an educational component to everything we do – not just in the classroom, but in our programming. We educate audiences. And we try to crosspollinate our programs wherever possible. Our Musical Theater Dance Workshop is a natural springboard inspiring young students to audition for our shows and work on our crews. There are visual and literary arts classes where we inspire students to work on our sets and costumes and write their own works to share at the monthly Salon of Shorts. Audience members, actors, directors, and crew members make their wish lists known to me – the projects they want to attend, act

65

in, help with a creative vision, etc. There are literally hundreds of options for programming the main stage each year and all of the aforementioned considerations go into the four or five big productions we mount each year.

“A vision’s just a vision if it’s only in your head. If no one gets to see it it’s as good as dead.” It’s been a dream of mine to present Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park With George. It’s a challenging masterpiece. So brilliantly conceived – so many of the themes that run through the show resonate with me personally and are relevant to the Center. The musical will be presented in July and will coincide with “Piece by Piece III”, a large recreation of an iconic artwork reimagined by around 150 local artists collaborating in what will be one of the most stunning and HUGE exhibitions on the Cape. Themes of “Color and Light” will resonate throughout the gallery and throughout our classes. And the theme of “putting it together” will be prevalent in everything we do this year. From The ABCs of NYC II to a bunch of crazy singing nuns, to a British farce and a new twist on the beloved holiday classic Annie, we want to share with you how we put it all together. So please visit our website for all kinds of great information and insight.

Piece by Piece III This summer, Cotuit Center for the Arts is thrilled to present the latest incarnation of our recurring exhibit concept: Piece by Piece III.

to be very careful not reveal their section to anyone.

Piece by Piece III will be a large-scale collaborative installation featuring 150 artists from Cape Cod. The participating artists will meet at the Center on April 2nd, where they will receive a fifteen-inch square white panel and a three-inchsquare randomly selected piece of an iconic painting.

The 150 separate pieces will be installed on the gallery wall at the opening reception, which begins at 5 PM on June 24th. As the panels are hung, a masterpiece of grand proportions—13 feet high by 19 feet wide—will be revealed, piece by piece, reflecting the talent, creativity, and imagination of the participating artists, as much as that of the original artist.

The artists are instructed to replicate their part of the puzzle in any medium, but

Individual art panels will go on sale at the opening reception and will continue

to be sold throughout the exhibition, with the proceeds split between the artists and the Center. Winners will receive a random panel at the close of the exhibition. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit both the Center and the artists who participated in the show.

Easily among the most aweinspiring installations we have put together, the Piece by Piece projects have always been very popular with our patrons. The June 24th panel installation celebration, where patrons witness the panel pieces being assembled, is an event not to be missed.

The show is funded in part by the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and will help to raise awareness of the large number of working artists on the Cape.

A Little Theater

Article by Christine Ernst, Director of Education Kids these days! They’re everywhere – underfoot, on the stage, behind the scenes, in the dressing rooms – sheesh – every time I turned around in 2016, there was some kid rehearsing a show or performing in one. We had 54 kids under the age of 18 perform on our stages last year. Ages 6 to 17, they contributed a whopping 9828 hours to the success of our productions. The math works like this: auditions + rehearsals + memorizing lines and blocking and music + driving to and from the theater + costume fittings + 12 or 14 or 20 performances = roughly 182 hours per performer x 54 kid performers = 9828 hours. But wait – not to mention the drive time for parents who take their kid back and forth from the theater roughly 45 times

72

during the course of a mainstage production. So – if each trip (get the kid into the car + run back in the house because they forgot their script or their dance shoes or their water bottle + drop the kid off + go back home or get the groceries done or run a few errands or stick around to see how this theater thing works and why the kid loves it so much + go back 2 or 3 or 6 hours later + wait in the parking lot because it’s a tech rehearsal and they are going late + drive back home + drop another kid off on the way + unload the kid and the script and the dance shoes and the water bottle) = roughly 1.25 hour of driving time give or take assuming you don’t live that far away = 60 hours per parent driver x say 45 parent drivers since there were some carpools and teenagers with licenses in

2016 = 2700 additional parent driving hours + the aforementioned 9828 hours = a grand total of 12,528 hours donated by kids and their parents to our mainstage productions last year. Whoa. Now wait – the math on the value of those hours is even more startling: the current value of one adult volunteer hour, according to the Corporation for National and Community Service, is $23.56. Even when that amount is adjusted to an arbitrary 50% kid rate of $11.78, and not undervaluing the contribution of the driver parent, this donation = $179,385.54. Holy. Smokes. Now – in return, these kids get to do the most rewarding most exciting thing in the world (parent chauffeurs – not so much) – they get to participate in the creation and performance of live theater – an endeavor that teaches the

value of community, self-expression, history, curiosity, creativity, patience, discipline, self-respect, work ethic, tolerance, confidence, collaboration, unity, esprit de corps, fellowship, and friend-making, to name a few. Also – it’s fun. It. Is. So. Much. Fun. Now – count them – 9828 hours not spent in front of a screen, not spent hanging around, not spent at the mall, on the street, at the arcade – 9828 hours not spent idle, bored, looking for trouble. 9828 hours spent in a theater – creating something unique and amazing and unforgettable. So – and sorry to all the parent chauffeurs – your kid (or grandkid, or neighbor kid, or niece, nephew, the kid in and around your life) needs the Center. Get them on stage. 182 hours? That is just the beginning. And $179,385.54 worth of volunteer time and energy and good intent? That’s a great deal. A great deal, indeed. Do it. At Cotuit.

PCW: Wow! Good thing you lived close by! MC: Oh yes! We lived in Sandwich for 25 years, until we moved to Yarmouth Port in 2016. PCW: Normally, you’d fit the profile of a classic stage mom but you are so not pushy like that!

Maureen Carrita (pictured above with daugter, Hannah) is a fixture around the Center mainly because her daughter appears regularly on our stages as an actor and singer. We caught up with Maureen over tea. PCW: What first brought you to CCftA? MC: Well, I’m mainly known as “Hannah’s mother,” so of course it was for something she was doing. She was seven or eight years old when I first brought her here for an art class. The Main Stage didn’t even exist yet back then! After that, when Hannah was 11 – ten years ago – she got involved in Michele Colley’s Musical Theatre Dance Workshop, and we’ve been here ever since.

MC: (Laughs) Hmmm – some people might dispute that! No... I’d probably call myself the “anti” stage mom! I’m pretty hands off, especially now that she’s older. The only thing I try to do is give her realistic, constructive criticism, because there are plenty of other people to tell her how good she is! Of course, I’m sure she doesn’t always appreciate my two cents! PCW: So tell me, what’s your favorite thing about Cotuit Center for the Arts? MC: The way the Center treats the actors. Hannah has done shows up and down the Cape for ten years, and CCftA is probably the place that makes actors feel the most appreciated for their efforts, and for their donation of so much time as volunteers on the stage. PCW: What’s your favorite thing about being a member here? MC: That every member is made to feel important and valuable, no matter which level of membership they are. And opening night receptions! And that most member events are for everyone. And Entertainment Tonight! It’s so hard to choose one thing!

PCW: Hannah did a lot with MTDW, didn’t she? MC: Yes! She started out as a performer, then she interned, and then she became an instructor.

PCW: What are your dreams for the future at CCftA?

PCW: What came next? MC: In 2011, Anything Goes was Hannah’s first Main Stage show, followed by her first Theater Under the Stairs show, Alice in Wonderland. Then there was a stretch of time when it seemed like she was in everything! She did one show after another – Main Stage, Black Box, concerts, and special events. We were always here! So since I was always bringing her here, I did a lot of tech work.

MC: (Laughs) I’d like Hannah to be the lead in every show, of course! And, that the Center is able to find enough space to do everything they would like to do. PCW: Any final thoughts? MC: I like to support the places that support my kid, and show their appreciation for her and her fellow actors. We have never felt anything but love from Cotuit Center for the Arts! Board Member Spotlight

Don Megathlin

You might recognize these two people from around The Cotuit Center for the Arts. They are Don and Karen Megathlin! Don is a member of our board, a post he has proudly held at the Center since 2012. Don is dedicated to the arts as one can see from his past board memberships at the Cape Cod Museum of Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (Sargent Society), and the Portland Museum of Art, for a total of almost 15 years. Don credits his mother with developing his keen interest in art and music as well. She was a fine artist who painted representational art in watercolors and oils, and exhibited at several Cape galleries, and she and Don spent many hours at Boston’s MFA when Don was a child. Don says that the main reason he got involved at Cotuit was that he liked the idea of a “cultural center”– an arts space with a diversity of programs available to the community, including not just fine arts but performing arts and education classes, too. At Cotuit Center for the Arts, he serves as Chair of the Governance Committee and a member of the Facilities Committee. Brought up in the city of Boston, Don has lived in metropolitan Boston for the majority of his life with the exception of ten years in Portland, Maine. His 40-year career spanned jobs as a

municipal and state executive regarding land use and economic development in Portland and Boston; a city planning and real estate consultant in Boston with national practices; and as a real estate developer in Boston. Don and Karen married in 2002, after being introduced by mutual friends. Don has three children and seven grandchildren (three of them college-aged), and all of them live in New England. His children and grandchildren have been exposed to theatre and art, and have been to the Center to see how Don and Karen take in culture in their own backyard. In 1989, Don (an only child) moved to the Cape to be closer to his parents. But interestingly, they weren’t the first Megathlins on Cape Cod. His family history traces back to a small town near Glasgow, Scotland (Strathlachlan) and a clan member, Clan MacLachlan, lives in the town’s castle even today! In 1696, one of the famous Cape Cod Families named Nickerson rescued a young Megathlin, (still called MacLachlan at that time). The boy was a 10 year-old stowaway on a cargo ship in New York, and he then settled on Cape Cod. The family has been living here continuously ever since. We asked Don if he has any interesting facts about himself that we didn’t know about (something we love to ask Board Members!), and he revealed to us that throughout the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, he performed as an Elvis impersonator (which he did at the Center in 2015); he played the demented Grandmother in Willy Wonka, a role he confesses fit him perfectly; and he is also a fiber artist working with yarn and wood to create three-dimensional pieces, some of which he displayed at our most recent Member Art Exhibit in our Gallery. So if you see Don and Karen around the Center, strike up a conversation with these lovely and interesting folks. We’re happy to have them in our Cotuit Family!

Volunteer Spotlight

Suzy Fletcher

Suzy originally came to the Cape 35 years ago as a teacher of Special Needs and Reading, following completion of her master’s degree at Florida State University. She taught for 15 years at Cape Cod Academy, as well as at the Riverview School in Sandwich and Curry College. Over the years, volunteering had become a natural part of Suzy’s extracurricular activity. Currently living in Mashpee, she has provided support at the Falmouth Service Center Food Pantry and Fresh Start programs, sung with the Cape Cod Chorale, served at the Cape Half Marathon, and even worked at the polls on election day. In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors for Convention Data Services, a family-owned company in Bourne that provides registration services to large conventions nationwide.

When Suzy Fletcher retired from teaching three years ago, she decided to become an active volunteer at the Cotuit Center for the Arts. Having previously lived in Cotuit Village, she could remember the early days, when she would go to plays held at the original theater location in the center of town. Now here was an opportunity for her to become a part of that organization, which had since grown from those small beginnings into the major venue it is today.

So, becoming a volunteer at CCftA in retirement was a logical choice for Suzy. As an usher for theater events as well as helping with the many office mailings (while also learning to play the ukulele), Suzy has become an integral part of our volunteer team and a familiar face to all in our community. For Suzy, it is the opportunity to share the arts and music of Cotuit with the people of that community which provides the greatest reward of all. Whether it’s experiencing a great play like 33 Variations, a music event with Kami Lyle, or just socializing at Wine and Music, it is the ability to share those experiences with such great people that makes the volunteering so worthwhile for Suzy Fletcher. Thank you, Suzy, for all you do to support CCftA!
