踏上旅程 ON THE JOURNEY

真正重要的事情，用肉眼是看不清楚的， 只要用心，才能看得清楚！ It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye!

小王子離開了心愛的玫瑰花，踏上旅程 The Little Prince left his beloved Rose to begin his journey.

這是一頂帽 我畫的是蛇吞象 大人們的眼光很奇怪 This is a hat.

It was a picture of a boa constrictor digesting an elephant.

The grown-ups responded with a strange glance. 土耳其天文學家發現 B612 星球 因他穿着土耳其服飾，沒人相信 當他穿上西裝，大家相信了 A Turkish astronomer discovered Asteroid B612 He was in Turkish costume, and so nobody would believe what he said.

But when he was dressed in a suit, everybody would believe what he said. 長大後，做了飛機師 飛機遇到了……

When I grew up, I became a pilot.

And my plane encountered…

感謝康樂及文化事務署「國際綜藝合家歡 2017 」， 讓《 小 王 子 》 能 與 更 多 的 觀 眾 見面。

I would like to thank the Leisure and Cultural Services Department for presenting The Little Prince at the International Arts Carnival 2017.

《 小 王 子 》 是 一 本 富 思 考 性 的 故 事 書， 雖 說 是 兒 童 文 學， 但 從 大 人 的 角 度 看 還 是 有 很 多 值 得 咀 嚼 的 地 方。 希 望 透 過 這 個 演 出 讓 認 識《 小 王 子 》 的 觀 眾 可 以 不 同 角 度 再 看 同 一 個 故 事； 而 沒 有 讀 過 《小王子》的朋友們，也可借此機會認識 小王子的大世界。

Though styled as a children's literature, The Little Prince is an enlightening story full of inspirations

安東尼 • 聖埃克蘇佩里 Antoine de SAINT-EXUPÉRY 安東尼 • 聖埃克蘇佩里（ 1900-1944）為法國作家及飛行員， 出 生 於 法 國 里 昂 的 貴 族 家 庭， 五 個 孩 子 中 排 行 第 三。 在安東尼年幼時，身為伯爵的父親因病去世，十七歲時其弟 離世，繼而成為家中唯一的男性。受到其弟的離世及第一次 世界大戰的影響，安東尼開始創作諷刺普魯士士兵的漫畫， 並開始寫詩。 1921 至 1923 年 間， 他 在 法 國 空 軍 服 役， 是 法 國 最 早 一 代 的 飛 行 員 之 一。 1923 年 退 役 後， 先 後 從 事 過 各 種 不 同 的 職業，但第二次世界大戰期間他重入法國空軍。 1940 年， 因希望勸說美國政府盡快參戰對抗德國等軸心國，與其妻逃 離至美國。及後，有出版商極力勸說他寫一本童話，以幫助 他緩解健康問題及心情，於是他在 1942 年於紐約州創作了 《小王子》。1944 年為了防備軸心國在法國的攻擊，安東尼 在 一 次 間 諜 行 動 的 飛 行 途 中 失 蹤， 自 此 再 沒 有 人 見 過 他。 2004 年，法國文化部考察隊證實在法國馬賽的外海發現他 當年駕駛的戰鬥機殘骸。安東尼以飛行員作為故事敘述者， 講述了小王子從自己的星球前往地球中所經歷的各種奇遇， 透過小王子的童稚形象，用天真淺白的語言寫出成人世界的 孤獨寂寞、顛沛流離的命運。 安東尼雖出生貴族，卻經歷了不少辛酸，飽受納粹的煎熬， 他 選 擇 逃 離 法 國 也 不 願 被 惡 勢 力 操 控。 雖 然 英 年 早 逝， 他創作的《小王子》卻成為法國書籍當中，擁有最多讀者及 譯本的小說，更是世界最暢銷書本之一，至今仍是膾炙人口 的讀物！ French writer and pioneering aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (19001944) was born to an aristocratic family in Lyon as the third of five children. His father, a count, died from a stroke when he was little. At the age of 17, his younger brother died of rheumatic fever, leaving him the only male in the family. Affected by the death of his brother and World War I, he began to create satirical cartoon ridiculing Prussian soldiers and also started to write poetry.

From 1921 to 1923, he began his military service as a basic-rank soldier, but was later reposted to the Aviation Regiment where he experienced the first of his many aircraft crashes. He left the air force in 1923 and took on odd jobs, but he returned to the air when World War II broke out. He went to New York with his wife in 1940 to convince the US to enter the conflict against Nazi Germany. One of his publishers then persuaded him to produce a children’s book to relieve his illness and stress. This book was The Little Prince, which he wrote in New York in 1942. In a reconnaissance mission to defend France, he took off in an unarmed aircraft and never returned. In 2004, the French Ministry of Culture confirmed the remnants of a crash wreckage found near the coast of Marseille were from Saint-Exupéry’s aircraft. Although born into privilege, he experienced bitter times in life and suffered under Nazi occupation. He chose to escape from France instead of being manipulated by malicious forces. 黃狄文 Dominic WONG 曾 任 電 視 節 目 主 持 及 演 員， 後 入 讀 香 港 演 藝 學 院 現 代 舞 系。 1996 年 畢 業 後 加 入 CCDC 為 舞 者， 2016 年 擢 升 為 副 藝 術 總 監。 2001 年 及 2013 年 分 別 憑 《 Plaza X 與異變街道》及《畸人說夢》的演出獲頒香港舞蹈年獎「最值得 表揚男舞蹈員」。黃氏編舞作品包括《男人炒飯》、《歡樂今宵》、《忽然 四季》、《下一秒》、《崩城故事》、《別有洞天》、《思纏想後》及《拼途》， 其作品多次獲邀於北京舞蹈雙週及廣東現代舞週上演。《忽》及《下》分別 於 2008 年 及 2009 年 獲《 南 華 早 報 》 評 選 為「 全 年 最 佳 舞 蹈 」；《 拼 途 》 獲香港舞蹈年獎 2017「傑出中型場地舞蹈製作」獎。黃氏在創作上勇於嘗試， 舞作風格新穎多變。

Dominic Wong was a TV artist before he studied modern dance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA). He joined CCDC after his graduation in 1996 and was promoted as Assistant Artistic Director in 2016. He received the Hong Kong Dance Award “Outstanding Performance by a Male Dancer” for his performance in Plaza X (2000) and The Comedy of K (2012). His choreographic works include Men’s Chop Suey, E.Y.T., Xtremely Four Seasons, What’s Next, Punk Side Story, Blind Chance, Second Thoughts and Travelogue (previous title: Little Pieces). He was invited to stage his choreography at Beijing Dance Festival and Guangdong Dance Festival. Xtremely Four Seasons and What’s Next were both hailed

by South China Morning Post as one of the “Best Dances” of their years. Travelogue was awarded the “Outstanding Medium Venue Production” at The 19th Hong Kong Dance Awards.

Innovative in choreography, his works are physically demanding and feature a wide range of styles from comedic to sophisticated.

鄺韻儀 Ronly KONG 鄺 韻 儀 乃 資 深 青 少 年 舞 蹈 教 育 工 作 者 及 編 舞。 先 後 考 獲 香 港 演 藝 學 院 現 代 舞 高 級 文 憑、 香 港 賽 馬 會 舞 蹈 深 造 獎 學 金、 美 國 猶 他 大 學 藝 術 學 士 學 位、 PIP 藝 術 學 校 表 演 藝 術 證 書 及 法 國 戲 劇 大 師 菲 利 普 • 高 利 埃 大 師 工 作 坊 證書。曾為本地及海外團體演出、編舞、教學及設計課程。曾擔任香港演藝 學 院 學 士 課 程（ 1996-2003） 及 碩 士 課 程（ 2015） 舞 蹈 教 育 兼 職 講 師。 歷 年 創作近一百二十齣舞蹈小品予六千多位青少年舞者。於 1998 至 2003 年學校 舞蹈節中榮獲「編舞獎」。 2009 年獲英國國家芭蕾舞團邀請擔任於上海世界 博覽會演出「天鵝之旅──舞蹈及文化交流計劃」之編舞。 2016 年 11 月更獲 韓國藝術文化教育中心邀請擔任「國際藝術教育工作坊」之講者及導師。 現為 CCDC 舞蹈中心外展事務經理及舞蹈培訓獎學金計劃「彩色青春」導師。 身兼行政、導師、編舞及司儀。 Ronly Kong specialises in teaching and choreographing with young persons and has been doing so for 25 years. She graduated from the HKAPA in 1989 and continued her studies, obtaining a BFA magna cum laude in modern dance from the University of Utah in 1992, supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music & Dance Fund Scholarship. She has been a dancer, choreographer and teacher in many productions in Hong Kong and beyond, as well as a part-time dance education lecturer for the HKAPA BFA programme (1996-2003) and MFA programme (2015).

Kong won the “Choreography Award” from the 34th to 38 th Schools Dance Festivals. In November 2016, she was invited by the Korean Arts and Culture Education Service as lecturer and dance instructor for the KACES International Arts Education Workshop.

Currently, she is CCDC Dance Centre Outreach Affairs Manager and the instructor of Dance Training Scholarship Scheme “Teens of Colours”.

沙畫藝術及現場演出 Sand Art and Live Performance

海潮 Hoi Chiu 香港本土藝術家，是將沙畫藝術帶到香港的先驅，其沙畫藝術見稱於國際。曾 為香港著名歌手陳奕迅製作沙畫 MV，在香港引起回響。海潮參與多部電影和 電視製作，也經常與電子媒體合作，以木偶、畫作及舞台製作等多種媒介演繹 香港藝術，早前更為政府新聞處拍攝香港宣傳短片，並代表香港於比利時、澳 洲、紐西蘭等地的國際活動演出。海潮近年投入沙動畫電影創作，首個沙動畫 獲獎短片《紅雞蛋》更獲選於十多個國際短片電影節及動畫電影節放映。 Hoi Chiu is a renowned sand painting artist from Hong Kong whose skills has gained international recognition. His work in the music video for pop star Eason Chan popularised the art form in the city. His creativity extends to puppetry, painting and stage performance, and he has contributed to film, TV and digital media productions. He made an official promotional video for Hong Kong in 2014 and performed at international events in Belgium, Australia and New Zealand representing the city. In recent years, he has been devoting himself to sand animation. His debut Red Egg won the short film award at ICT and was screened at a numerous short film and animation film festivals worldwide.

原創音樂及現場演奏 Original Music and Live Performance

伍焯堃 Patrick NG 伍焯堃自 2000 年起於香港演藝學院擔任琴師一職。作為經驗豐富的專業鋼琴 家，他曾於多個本地流行音樂會上演出，並為多個不同風格的話劇和節目擔任 音樂總監及作曲家，積極參與各種商業公開演出。伍氏擅長爵士樂與流行鋼琴 音樂，近年致力宣揚爵士文化，開拓爵士音樂的發展。他曾於 YAMAHA Band Alert 1999 香 港 區 邀 請 賽 中 奪 得 最 佳 鍵 琴 手 獎， 並 於 廣 州 太 古 匯 為《 施 坦 威 公司──星夜琴話 2015》擔任音樂總監。 Patrick Ng serves as Pianist for the HKAPA since 2000. As an experienced and professional pianist, Ng has given performances at many Hong Kong pop concerts and was the music director / composer of multiple dramas and shows. He also maintains an active commercial public performance schedule. Ng specialises in jazz and pop piano music and is an advocate of these music styles. He won “The Best Keyboard Player” at the YAMAHA Band Alert in 1999 and served as music director for Steinway & Sons Starry Christmas 2015 at Taikoo Hui in Guangzhou.

佈景設計 Set Design

阮漢威 YUEN Hon-wai 阮漢威畢業於香港演藝學院科藝學院藝術學士，主修佈景及服裝設計，曾獲香 港賽馬會獎學金及成龍海外獎學金赴英國 Stephen Joseph Theatre 實習。舞台 設計作品達一百個，更憑演戲家族製作的《四川好人》獲第十三屆香港舞台 劇獎「最佳服裝設計獎」。現為自由身舞台工作者及劇場教育工作者、香港 演藝學院駐院藝術家（設計），同時亦為舞台攝影師，為不同專業表演藝術團 體擔任攝影師，其舞台攝影作品曾分別在台灣及日本隨藝團展覽。 2008 年開 始個人攝影計畫《 Black List》，並於 2010 年 7 月展覽及出版。阮氏曾四度獲 香港小劇場獎提名，亦曾獲提名香港舞蹈年獎之「最佳舞台效果獎」。今年憑 《金龍》獲第二十六屆香港舞台劇獎「最佳舞台設計獎」。 Yuen Hon-wai graduated from the HKAPA, majoring in Set and Costume Design. He received the “Best Costume Design Award” from the 13th Hong Kong Drama Awards for The Good Person of Szechwan. Yuen has been focusing on designing for theatre and performing arts for more than a decade, having created about 100 set designs for arts performances including dance, dramas, musicals and concerts. Yuen is also a freelance theatre artist and theatre photographer. He has been engaged by theatre companies and publications to work on production still photos and promotional media. His photography works have been featured in Taiwan and Japan. He is also a theatre educator, part-time lecturer and an Artist-inResidence (Design) at the HKAPA. In 2010, his first photo book Black List was published with an exhibition paying tribute to theatre technicians in Hong Kong. Yuen was nominated four times for the “Best Stage Effect” at the Hong Kong Theatre Libre Awards and once the “Best Stage Effect” at the Hong Kong Dance Awards. This year, Yuen received the “Best Set Design Award” from the 26th Hong Kong Awards for The Golden Dragon.

燈光設計 Lighting Design

羅文偉 Lawmanray 畢業於香港演藝學院，主修燈光設計，期間獲頒周生生證券獎學金及演藝學院 友誼社獎學金。 2017 年加入 CCDC 任駐團燈光設計師。 羅氏曾為不同劇場演出擔任燈光設計師，作品有香港話劇團《極樂過山車》及 《五月的梅子》、黎海寧編舞作品《 Frida 》及《 90 後的黎海寧》、前進進戲 劇工作坊《（而你們所知道的）中國式魔幻》、風車草劇團《告別之後》、多 空間《冇關係》及《突然之間》、她說創作單位《廚房女事》、顛覆盒子《未 成年少女駕駛課程》、國際學院舞蹈節香港選段、 2013 深港城市＼建築雙城 雙年展開幕式、香港演藝學院《六個尋找劇作家的角色》及《熒 • 睿》等。 除 燈 光 設 計 外， 羅 氏 亦 致 力 於 劇 場 創 作， 並 於 2009 年 成 立 INSPIRE WORKSHOP ，創作糅合新媒體及表演之劇場作品，包括《觸怒你──劇場裡 的不可能》、《愛比資本更冷 Deconstructed 》（首演及重演）、《二十仍在》、 《二十然後》、《二十常在》、《 In a New Light and Sound 》，以及艾菲斯 劇團《大 會》、《我們身處的這個地方》、《臭男人飄香》、《假如沒有孟 婆湯》等，並憑編導作品《愛比資本更冷 Deconstructed 》獲提名第八屆香港 小劇場獎最佳導演。 Lawmanray (Raymond Law) graduated from the HKAPA in Lighting Design. He was awarded Chow Sang Sang Securities Scholarships in 2011 and The Society of APA Scholarship in 2012.

He joined CCDC as Resident Lighting Designer in 2017.

服裝設計 Costume Design

楊展 YEUNG Chin 楊 展 是 Alternatif 時 裝 工 作 室 的 舊 生 和 成 員， 曾 於 製 衣 業 訓 練 局 及 香 港 大 學 專 業 進 修 學 院 就 讀， 2009 年 於 英 國 西 敏 寺 大 學 獲 時 裝 設 計 碩 士 學 位， 現 為 香港知專設計學院導師，並以其名創立時裝品牌── Yeung Chin 。 2006 至 2008 年間，楊氏受聘於中國李寧體育用品公司擔任高級時裝設計師 一職，為北京奧運會中國國家隊設計比賽服飾。此外，他曾於香港時裝品牌 G2000 任首席時裝設計師。 在舞台製作方面，他曾為 CCDC 《尼金斯基》及《剛柔流》擔任舞台服裝設計 助理，後再為 CCDC 《未團圓 • 大結局》擔任舞台服裝設計。 楊 氏 曾 於 2003 年 和 2009 年 分 別 在 香 港 貿 易 發 展 局 舉 辦 的 香 港 青 年 設 計 師 比賽及香港設計中心舉辦的年青才進比賽中獲獎； 2003 至 2008 年，他參與 多個香港時裝節的時裝表演。他的作品曾於倫敦 OXO Tower （ 2009 ）、亞洲 協會香港中心（ 2013 ）、香港文化博物館（ 2013 ）、紐約時裝週（ 2015 ）、 新加坡國家設計中心（ 2015 ）展出。 Yeung Chin studied fashion design at Alternatif Fashion Workshop, Clothing Industry Training Authority and HKU SPACE, and received an MA in Fashion Design from The University of Westminster in 2009. Currently, he guest lectures for Vocational Training Council at Hong Kong Design Institute, and runs his own fashion brand, Yeung Chin.

As a fashion designer, Yeung worked for Chinese sportswear brand Li Ning as senior fashion designer between 2006 and 2008, where he was part of the team designing the uniform for the Chinese Olympics team. He also worked for the clothing brand G2000 as chief fashion designer.

For stage productions, he was the costume design assistant of CCDC’s Nijinsky and Iron and Silk in 2006; costume designer of another CCDC production Happily N’ever After in 2010.

Yeung won awards in young designer contests organised by Hong Kong Trade Development Council in 2003 and by Hong Kong Design Centre in 2009, and also participated in Hong Kong Fashion Week from 2003 to 2008. His works were exhibited at London’s OXO Tower (2009), Asia Society Gallery (2013), Hong Kong Heritage Museum (2013), New York Fashion Week (2015) and Singapore Design Centre (2015).

夏恩蓓 HA Yan-pui 畢 業 於 香 港 演 藝 學 院 舞 台 音 響 及 音 樂 錄 音 系， 現 為 不 同 舞 台 製 作 擔 任 音 響 設計師及工程師，包括劇場、舞蹈、音樂會、音樂劇及多媒體演出，近期作品 包括進念．二十面體《看不見的城市》、《東宮西宮》系列；CCDC《孤寂》、 《她說／他說》、《後感性 • 實相》；香港舞蹈團《在那遙遠的地方》等。 其他作品包括：香港話劇團《一頁飛鴻》；任白慈善基金《再世紅梅記》； W 創作社《修羅場》、《小人國》系列；香港藝術節「香港賽馬會當代舞蹈平台」 系列；香港青年協會「香港國際無伴奏合唱節」等。連續兩年為澳門國際音樂 節擔任音響顧問。憑《修羅場》獲提名第二十四屆香港舞台劇獎最佳音響設計。 Graduated from the Theatre Sound and Music Recording Department of the HKAPA, HA Yanpui is a sound designer and engineer for various theatre productions, such as drama, dance, concert, musical and multi-media performances. Her recent design works include Invisible Cities and East Wing West Wing series for Zuni Icosahedron; Soledad, She Says, He Talks and Post-Perception/Transcendence for CCDC, Voices and Dances on the Distant Land for Hong Kong Dance Company. Other works include Footprints in the Snow for Hong Kong Repertory Theatre; The Reincarnation of Red Plum for Yam Kim Fai & Pak Suet Sin Charitable Foundation; Shuraba and Little Hong Kong series for W Theatre; Hong Kong Jockey Club Contemporary Dance Series for Hong Kong Arts Festival; Hong Kong International A Cappella Festival for The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups etc. She was also invited as Sound Consultant for the Macao International Music Festival. Her work Shuraba was nominated for "The Best Sound Design" at the 24th Hong Kong Drama Awards.

紙面具創作 Paper Mask Creation

Stickyline 以香港作為基地的創意團隊 Stickyline ，由梁子程和黎意雄於 2011 年成立。 他們的創作遊走於平面與立體之間，以解構及重整紙本的革新方法，讓創意十 足的紙藝活現眼前。透過摺與疊，製作出複雜多樣的裝置藝術、舞台設計及櫥 窗陳列品，其設計更應用到多種媒介，如時尚飾物、燈飾及玩具等等，從虛構 的面到實在的體，讓想像能夠變成真實。 Stickyline 曾參與多個展覽，包括 SingaPlural （ 2016 ）、 Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong （ 2015 ）、 Detour （ 2011-2016 ）、 Clockenflap 香 港 音 樂 及 藝 術節（ 2013 ）以及 DMY International Design Festival Berlin （ 2013 ）。 Stickyline is a Hong Kong based creative collective founded by Mic Leong and Soilworm Lai in 2011. It deconstructs and reconstructs paper in innovative ways to transform two dimensional planes into three dimensional forms.

Through the folding, creasing and other creative manipulations of paper, complex installation arts, stage designs and window displays are realised. Stickyline’s paper creations have expanded into fashion accessories, lighting, toys and other products, encouraging the connection between imagination and reality.

Stickyline has participated in many exhibitions, including SingaPlural in 2016, Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong in 2015, Detour (2011-2016), Clockenflap Hong Kong in 2013 and DMY International Design Festival Berlin in 2013.

曹誠淵是一位編舞家、教育家、藝術策劃人及文化企業家，在中國的 現代舞領域具有相當影響力。他出生及成長於香港，其後在美國接受 現 代 舞 訓 練。 曹 氏 為 香 港 大 學 工 商 管 理 碩 士， 2000 年 成 為 香 港 演 藝 學院榮譽院士， 2015 年獲香港演藝學院頒授榮譽博士。

曹 氏 一 直 致 力 推 動 中 國 現 代 舞 的 發 展： 於 1979 年 在 香 港 創 辦 了 第 一 個 專 業 當 代 舞 團 ─ 城 市 當 代 舞蹈團，並從 1989 年開始擔任藝術總監至今。在廣州，曹氏於 1987 至 1992 年獲邀擔任廣東舞蹈 學校現代舞大專班的教師及顧問，並於 1992 年出任由廣東省政府成立、中國第一個專業現代舞團─ 廣東現代舞團的藝術總指導。他於 1998 年辭任該團，其後獲廣東省文化廳力邀重返廣州，於 2004 至 2016 年出任廣東現代舞團藝術總監一職。在北京，曹氏於 1999 至 2005 年出任北京現代舞團藝術 總監，於 2005 年創建中國首個體制之外的獨立現代舞團─北京雷動天下現代舞團，並擔任該團藝術 總 監 至 今。 曹 氏 於 2015 年 獲 委 任 為 中 國 舞 蹈 家 協 會 理 事， 2016 年 為 廣 東 省 舞 蹈 家 協 會 副 主 席。 除帶領香港及北京專業舞團發展外，他亦在北京、長沙、大慶、福州、廣州、貴陽、合肥、呼和浩特、 昆明、南昌、南寧、上海、太原、烏魯木齊、武漢和廈門等十多個城市的大專院校及藝術團體講學 及主持工作坊。 曹氏對舞蹈的貢獻備受讚譽，歷年獲獎無數，包括 1988 年香港藝術家聯盟「舞蹈家年獎」、 1990 年「 香 港 十 大 傑 出 青 年 」、 1993 年「 英 女 皇 榮 譽 獎 章 」、 1998 年「 路 易 • 卡 地 亞 卓 越 成 就 獎 ─ 舞 蹈 設 計 家 」、 1999 年 香 港 特 區 政 府「 銅 紫 荊 星 章 」 及 2014 年 香 港 舞 蹈 聯 盟「 傑 出 成 就 獎 」， 以讚揚其對本地藝術發展的重大貢獻。 由 1980 年至今，曹氏創作了六十多部風格迥異的作品，包括《鳥之歌》、《昆侖》、《中國風 • 中國火》、《 365 種係定唔係東方主義》、《逍遙遊》、《一桌 N 椅》、《三千寵愛》、《非常道》、 《霸王》、《蘭陵王》、《尋找大觀園》等。其作品多次在加拿大、法國、德國、以色列、日本、韓國、 美國以及北京、廣州、上海和台北的大型藝術節上演。 Willy Tsao is an influential figure in China’s modern dance development as a choreographer, educator, curator, manager and director. Born and educated in Hong Kong, Tsao received his modern dance training in the US and an MBA degree from the University of Hong Kong. He was named an Honorary Fellow by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2000 and received an Honorary Doctorate in 2015.

As a contemporary dance pioneer in Mainland China and Hong Kong, Tsao founded the first and only professional contemporary dance company CCDC in Hong Kong in 1979 and has held the role of artistic director since 1989. In Mainland China, Tsao was a teacher and advisor to the Modern Dance Programme at the Guangdong Dance School from 1987 to 1992 and was named artistic director of China’s first professional modern dance company, Guangdong Modern Dance Company, when it was founded by the Guangdong Provincial Government in 1992. He departed the group in 1998 and was invited by the Guangdong Cultural Bureau in 2004 to resume his position until 2016. In Beijing, Tsao had served the Beijing Modern Dance Company as artistic director from 1999 to 2005. In 2005, Tsao established China’s first independent professional modern dance company, BeijingDance/LDTX. In addition, Tsao gives lectures and workshops frequently for universities and dance groups in major Chinese cities, including Beijing, Changsha, Daqing, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Guiyang, Hefei, Hohhot, Kunming, Nanchang, Nanning, Shanghai, Taiyuan, Urumqi, Wuhan and Xiamen.

Tsao’s contribution to dance has been widely recognised. He has also received numerous awards and honours including, Dancer of the Year Award from the Hong Kong Artists’ Guild in 1988, Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award in 1990, Badge of Honour from HRH Queen Elizabeth II in 1993, Louis Cartier Award of Excellence – Outstanding Choreographer in 1998. In 1999, he was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government. He received Distinguished Achievement Award in the 2014 Hong Kong Dance Awards for his immense and invaluable achievement and contribution to Hong Kong dance.

Since 1980, Tsao has created more than 60 major works, including Bird Songs, Kunlun, China Wind-China Fire, 365 Ways of Doing and Undoing Orientalism, Wandering in the Cosmos, One Table N Chairs, Sexing Three Millennia, Dao: Extraodinaire, Conqueror, Warrior Lanling and In Search of the Grand View Garden. His choreography has been staged in Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Korea, the US as well as Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Taipei.
