OUR PATHWAY TO PROGRESS THROUGH PHILANTHROPY 80 Years of Catholic Charity in Northeast Florida

OUR PATHWAY We are the regional office of the Catholic Charities Bureau Inc. serving Northeast Florida. Our regional team serves the neighbors of Baker, Clay, Duval, and Nassau counties. Our social services agency is staffed with compassionate and knowledgeable advocates from diverse origins and personal experiences who offer their professional expertise to advocate for people who are marginalized. Our advocates have operated in downtown Jacksonville for 80 years to be a presence in the urban community. With the help of our philanthropists, partners, and volunteers, our community stretches to greater Jacksonville with a food program and warehouse in newly co-located Arlington.

We recognize that strength, hope, and compassion are virtues we can share to help our neighbors in unpredictable hardship and generational poverty.

OUR PROGRAMS We are committed to providing catholic charity to all neighbors of various faiths, creeds, races, or ethnicities with the compassion of Christ. Our programs are seeded by private and federal grants and thrive with corporate & nonprofit partnerships and the faithful participation of philanthropists through sponsorships and donations of time, treasure, and talent. Our programs provide: •

English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes

Financial assistance for housing & transportation

Food for the elderly, students, neighborhoods, and active-duty families

Housing for veterans, the poor, the sick and the disadvantaged

Immigration services

Refugee resettlement

Archbishop Joseph Hurley organized a meeting with Catholic leaders to discuss the establishment of a Catholic Charity agency.

Catholic Charites opened in Jacksonville on January 3, 1944.

The Charter of Catholic Charities Bureau, Inc. was filed in the public records of Duval County on January 27, 1945.

The agency’s charter was amended to include statewide Catholic Charities.

1982

The Jacksonville Regional Office begins providing Refugee Resettlement services.

A program to rescue our homeless undocumented minors from the countries from which they are fleeing persecution and injustice.

Catholic Charities Bureau, Inc. is nationally accredited through the Council on Accreditation.

The food pantry is relocated to St. Pius V Catholic Church on 13th Street.

The Jacksonville office progresses to 6th East Bay Street

The Jacksonville regional office progresses to the Jessie Ball duPont building. The Providence Center converted into a facility for community donations.

The Jacksonville office takes over the ministries of Immigration Legal Services and Camp I Am Special.

On January 3rd, Catholic Charities celebrates 80 years as a catholic charity agency in the greater community of Northeast Florida.

OUR PHILANTHROPISTS Our philanthropists are people who give from the heart.

Catholic Charities presents the Duval Deck, where we invite our local philanthropists to participate in the pathway to progress with sponsorships of branded assets showing their support of Catholic Charities to all that come through our community.

MEET DUVAL THE DONKEY We embrace the humble, empathetic donkey as our mascot and name him “Duval” after our biggest county.

Duval comes to Northeast Florida to empower the hero within each of us, especially during the most difficult times.

We present the Duval’s Kids’ Fund to support the children of Catholic Charities in our region.

Your

participation in Duval’s Kids’ Fund provides needed financial support for our families’ children and helps us achieve a supportive community.

DUVAL’S HOOVES Your Stamp In Our Community Each hoof is custom-made and reflects your imprint upon our community. Your hoof may be dedicated to those you love when you participate in the Duval’s Kids’ Fund.
