Motorcycle Mania Keri Jastrzemski WRITER

Attention in the Pits was heard for the first time in a long time at Sacramento Raceway Park last month. For the first time in years a all motorcycle drag race and event happened May 23rd and 24th. The event was hosted by Cali Rose Promotions and Deanna Powel from the Sacramento raceway. Motorcycle Mania turned out to be a great race and event. Something we all needed after a year of covid, no racing and bike events.

Racers from 6 states including Arizona, Wyoming, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, and California came out to race. Over 85 racers entered various classes such as, Western Pro Extreme Association’s Pro Extreme and Pro Outlaw class. These 2 classes featured some of the fastest bikes in the west. Pro riders brought their Nitro Harley’s, pro stock, pro mod, and pro fuel bikes out. Nigel Patrick from Arizona set a new west coast E.T. record with a 6.569 second pass @ 197 mph in the 1/4 mile. He went on to win the Pro Extreme Class in the finals against Craig Brown

also from Arizona. The Western Pro Extreme Association hosts all out, heads up racing. Many of the motorcycle drags in California are bracket races. Racing against your own time. All out, heads up racing is just that. Show up, race, and see you at the finish line. Many racers are excited to get back to old school heads up racing. Other race classes at Motorcycle Mania included race associations out of Southern California such as the Kingsman shootout, Real Street and Pro ET class for pro riders. Others enjoyed the Hot Street Bagger class, and Street ET classes. These classes allowed anyone to bring their bagger, street bike, Hayabusa or whatever they ride and race. They even had a grudge and test lane for those who just wanted to test themselves and their bikes on a prepped drag strip. This led to a great weekend of racing for both the racers and fans. Over 600 fans showed up to enjoy the races and more.

Many were excited to see an all-bike event after a year of covid lockdowns. Many are ready for more, asking when we are doing it again. Most drag bike races are in conjunction with car races. There is nothing better than an all-bike race as the cars often overshadow the bikes at race events. Next time you hear of a Bike drag event, go, and check it out. Fast bikes, great people, and hey there its always an excuse for a ride. You may even catch the race bug and get out there yourself.
