Religious School Update
Mishpacha (family) is the foundation of all that we do, so it was important that was the theme for the Religious School Pre-K Family Engagement program. Rabbi Fort talked about the value of family with students and parents, and then each family worked together to make handprint Shabbat candle holders from salt dough.
The Religious School fifth grade students and parents recently met for a program that focused on tzedakah. Each family worked to rank the eight levels of tzedakah according to Maimonides, and then Rabbi Fort led a discussion about the various levels. Each family had fun decorating their own tzedakah jar to use at home.
The entire Religious School gathered for a model seder with Rabbi Strauss on the Sunday before Passover. The students worked with music teachers Dora Lee Grinberg and Marcia Sterling to learn various parts of the seder that they led. Students and teachers enjoyed celebrating Passover together.

B’nai Mitzvah
Molli Fay Morgan Kammerman (May 3/4) is the daughter of Shari and Stephen Kammerman; sister of Orly; granddaughter of Sabra and the late Bernie Klein of Richardson and of Sharon and Richard Kammerman of Houston. Molli is currently a seventh grader at The Emery/Weiner School. where she plays volleyball and soccer. For her mitzvah project, Molli decided to use her passion for baking to help others; she has chosen to sell baked goods online (mazeltovmolli. wixsite.com/mitzvah) and donate all of the proceeds to the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston, Camp Young Judaea Texas’ Friends of CYJ Annual Giving Fund, and to the American Heart Association. Molli will also participate in the Rabbi’s 10% plan and donate a portion of her monetary gifts. Molli is truly blessed and thankful to share this simcha with relatives and friends from near and far. Ariel Farrah Jacobson (May 10/11) Is the daughter of Rachel and Scott Jacobson; sister of Jordan and Mitchell; granddaughter of Sue and Stuart Jacobson and Florence (of blessed memory) and Menachem Grossman. Ariel attends First Colony Middle School. For her Bat Mitzvah project, Ariel is decorating and stuffing Nosh Bags for Jewish Family Service. Ariel will be donating a portion of her monetary gifts to the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Sarie Rae Goodweather (May 17/18) is the daughter of Gaby and Steve Goodweather; sister of Ella, and granddaughter of Hilary Nitsun and the late Brian Nitsun, and Mel and Arlyne Goodweather. Sarie attends Pin Oak Middle School. For her Mitzvah Project, Sarie volunteered with mainstreamed special needs children at Wolfie’s Swim School and The Little Gym. BONIM ENJOYING AN ESCAPE ROOM
On March 30th, Bonim had a fantastic time at “Secrets of the Ancient Temple”, an escape room challenge created just for them. Beth Yeshurun Religious School and Beth Yeshurun Day School 3rd-5th graders worked together through a series of scavenger hunts, riddles, and secret codes, all related to the 10 Commandments, in order to get to the Holy of Holies. After “escaping”, parents were invited to join the group for Havdallah and dessert. Special thank you to Carly Abramson, ISJL Education Fellow, and Sarah Goldberg, Youth Programming Coordinator, for planning this fun night!

Celebrate the lives of cancer survivors with us at a special Shabbat service at 6:00pm June 7, 2019. Rabbi Morgen will offer a special blessing for anyone touched by cancer, and for all our cancer survivors. We are pleased to offer this service in collaboration with CanCare, Inc. of which BY has been a member since 2001. CanCare is a nonprofit interfaith organization celebrating its 28th anniversary this year. It provides an opportunity for a person who is fighting cancer to walk with a volunteer who has survived that same cancer and treatment. CanCare’s member congregations spread awareness of CanCare’s free services within their congregations, and encourage cancer survivors to serve as volunteers in the community. CanCare’s volunteers provide oneon-one emotional support to cancer patients and their family members, offering encouragement, hope, and understanding that comes from a shared experience.

JOIN OUR CBY HOSPITAL VISITING GROUP!
Spending time as a patient in the hospital can be a very lonely experience. A friendly face can make all the difference in the world. Please join us in making that difference! We are looking for people to join the CBY Hospital Visiting Group. The purpose of the group is to visit those affiliated with Beth Yeshurun while they are hospitalized, bringing them the comfort and care of their synagogue family. Beth Yeshurun will provide you with general guidelines on how to conduct a hospital visit, and parking expenses will be reimbursed. Rabbi Morgen will be hosting an informational and training lunch on Thursday, May 23, at 12:00 noon for anyone interested in learning more about the Hospital Visiting Group.
