Adventure Journaling: Capturing Moments Art journals are a joyful, creative way to process our daily lives and to capture poetic moments while on big adventures. Join Judith Cassel-Mamet as she offers you the chance to try out a variety of art materials and accessible techniques for art journaling while capturing the beauty of Crested Butte in a personal and meaningful way. Ceramic Flower Vases & Vodka Join local artist, Mary Tuck, and create a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind vase inspired by local Crested Butte wildflowers. Learn how to apply various painting techniques and simple brush strokes on a pre-made ceramic vase. Felted Wool Flower Art Learn the art of painting with wool! Join us as Megan Hammer of Art Grows Wild shares the needle-felting technique that uses only wool and a needle to create a beautiful and unique piece of art. You will create a 4”x 6” frameable piece. Gifts from the Herb Garden Take this fun and easy class and discover how to craft your own beautiful and unique gifts from natural materials in the garden. crestedbuttewildflowerfestival.com Landscapes in Acrylic We’ll head to the top of Old Kebler Pass to capture one of the most picturesque scenes from above Crested Butte. Students work on a pre-toned 8 x 10 canvas, and Megan helps guide each person to a striking composition and layout, including instruction on how to draw attention to the wildflowers in the foreground. Megan also gives instruction on filling in the background of the painting by making suggestions of shapes through color, value, and line. #A05 / Sunday, 7/12 / 9am-1pm / Megan Craver / $90
Linoleum Block Carving & Printing Learn the classic art of printmaking! Create a wildflower design, carve it into a linoleum block, and then print the image using a vintage printing press. Mixed Media Wildflowers Create mixed-media masterpieces inspired by wildflowers. Begin by applying paint in layers, and then add texture elements with bubble wrap, netting, grids, stencils, etc. Next add flowers using collage techniques with different papers, and finally glaze with paint to finish. This multi-step process is fun, approachable, and yields an array of beautiful results! #A15 / Friday, 7/17 / 1:30-4:30pm / Ivy Walker / $85
Pastels in the Garden Spend the afternoon capturing the beautiful shapes and colors of Crested Butte’s amazing flowers through drawing with chalk pastels on thick, textured pastel paper. Local artist, Ivy Walker walks participants through exercises and techniques that teach how to depict flowers with form, shape, texture, color, and shadow. Participants will then focus on the creation of one or two final flower pastel drawings. Previous art experience helpful, but not necessary. Plein Air Watercolor along the Woods Walk Enjoy a saunter up Old Kebler Road to Chocolate Drop Hill and the Woods Walk for a morning of wildflower identification, sketching, and watercolor painting. This is a short walk of ½ mile, mostly uphill; moderate fitness required. Bring camp chair and a good hat for shade. Wildflower Sandblast Etching Learn to etch a beautiful wildflower design onto a pre-cut piece of circle-beveled glass. Explore the fundamentals of sandblasting glass, using hand-cut and photostencils, which are made by exposing light-sensitive film to an image or design. Once the film is exposed, it’s applied to glass and etched using a sandblaster to reveal the design on the glass. Wildflower Watercolor & Wine Join local watercolor artist Karen Hill, for a step-by-step watercolor painting class with wildflowers as the subject.
