Wonderland, where icicles twinkle and the magic of Christmas sparkles. A place where a palette of snowy silvers and whites transports you into an ice palace where 20 themed Christmas trees adorned with glass ornaments and plenty of merry treasures to fill your loved ones’ stockings to the brim await.

We sat down with Creative Director Eric Cortina to see just how Roger’s Gardens’ Christmas Boutique welcomes this joyful season.

How long has Roger’s Gardens been creating the Christmas Boutique? How did it initially start? Roger’s Gardens has been creating the Christmas shop for over 35 years. The holiday concept was born out of the necessity to replace the patio furniture merchandise in the Gallery during the colder winter season. It quickly became one of the most anticipated annual events at Roger’s.

What inspired this year’s “Wonderland” theme? “Wonderland” evokes wintertime images, along with a childlike approach to the holiday season. The front of the Gallery was inspired by Dr. Zhivago with the feeling of frost, crystals, and icicles hanging from the ceiling as well as from the hutch tops and Christmas trees. The back of our Gallery will bring out the child in all of us, with a vintage Santa theme filled with toys and trees teeming with whimsical ornaments.

What do you look forward to most during the holidays? I enjoy seeing the vision of our Christmas display become a reality. Hedda, our Holiday Buyer, and I work for over a year on the holiday theme, with her spending over eight months purchasing all the ornaments, collectables and tabletop merchandise. We have a theme book we use to reference every tree with its colorations and style, and a layout of the Gallery so we can move themes easily before the actual set-up begins. It’s great to see all the pieces fall into place.

If you were to take home one piece from the store for your own holiday decorating, what would it be?

In the front of the Gallery there is a collection of rock crystal votives that I would like to use this year at home. They are quite beautiful when they are lit with candlelight.

What would you recommend for a hostess gift?

We have a great selection of gourmet foods to choose from which can make wonderful gift baskets. Also, any of our seasonal candle scents are always appreciated.

Is there any particular gift that’s on your radar this year? William Yeoward vases and barware crystal are my “go to” gift throughout the year. They are not only beautiful pieces but are also functional for everyday entertaining.

You have 20 themed Christmas trees adorned with glass ornaments and decorations. What is your absolute favorite? Hedda’s favorite is the “Retro-Santa” tree. My favorite would be the “Toy Tree” which is filled with pieces reminiscent of my childhood.

How long did it take to transform the space? It takes a team of 10 merchandisers a total of four weeks to finish the inside of our Gallery for Christmas. Earlier in the year they also work on building all the props that are featured in our displays.

Is there holiday décor you think transcends seasons? Our crystal and mercury glass pieces not only work for the holidays, but can be used year-round for home décor.

Did the drought affect any of your holiday decorating plans? For our outside décor, our production team is always careful to consider plant combinations that require minimal water.
