The program is designed for working professionals seeking to acquire dynamic and innovative leadership skills and integrate evidence-based practices to improve health outcomes. Experiential learning opportunities give students the chance to apply knowledge in a practical setting with activities and on-site practicums.
Students engage in supervised practicum experiences with qualified preceptor partners specific to their concentration. Additionally, academic service learning opportunities are available for gaining clinical practice in international settings.
The BSN-MSN program is designed for working professionals, offering either online or in-person options.

Graduate as a master’s-prepared nurse equipped to lead, serve and advance health care across diverse settings. In CBU’s MSN program, you will engage in specialized coursework grounded in ethics, compassion and a Christian worldview while learning alongside experienced faculty. Here you will be prepared to make a meaningful impact on 21st-century health care and nursing practice.
In addition, the program includes a seven-room clinic space for practicing patient engagement in an outpatient setting and a specialized skills lab for advanced practice nursing students. The lab is equipped for advanced skills including but not limited to suturing, joint injections, toenail removal, arterial line placement and lumbar puncture. Experienced NP faculty lead skills days each semester to ensure hands-on learning and mastery.
The College of Nursing also features the “Black Box Room,” a special simulation room where nursing students experience immersive simulation scenarios, enhancing their practical skills and readiness for real-world challenges.
My name is Jeffrey Gage, and I am a professor of nursing in the College of Nursing. I am originally from New Zealand where I gained my nursing registration and master’s degree in public health before moving to the University of Missouri to undertake a PhD in Nursing from 2001 to 2005. After graduation, I returned to New Zealand to teach in nursing and health sciences for 10 years. While presenting at a research conference in Australia, I met the dean of CBU College of Nursing who invited me to visit during a planned sabbatical to the United States. During my brief time on campus, I encountered a call from God to CBU. After a series of events, it was my privilege to join the College of Nursing faculty in January 2016.
My clinical expertise is in public health and community nursing. In these roles I regularly visited schools, working closely with teachers and allied health workers to address a range of physical and emotional issues affecting children and their families. I received additional training in the specialized areas of tuberculosis contact tracing, child protection and the development of evidence-based guidelines for practice.
In the College of Nursing, I teach health promotion, nursing science, translational research and outcomes evaluation in the master’s and doctoral programs. My scholarly interests relate to family health, transition to fatherhood, health behavior change and smoking cessation during pregnancy. In my recent research, I focused on men’s experience of a first trimester ultrasound at a community pregnancy center. Findings enabled me to develop Dads4Life, a mentor program for fathers and vulnerable families in Riverside.
My wife is also a nurse, and we have four young-adult children who reside in four countries: Canada, New Zealand, United States and Lithuania. I enjoy the outdoors, traveling, camping, biking and hiking.

California Licensed Registered Nurses who hold a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from a regionally accredited institution may complete one of the following concentrations.

• Nursing Informatics
• Nurse Educator
• Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Application for admission with a $45 application fee.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the evaluated equivalency.
Minimum 3.0 GPA for admission.
An active, unencumbered California Registered Nursing (RN) License.
Current resume including current practice. For APRN concentrations, a minimum of one year work experience as an RN is required.
Students are expected to work as an RN during the program to gain clinical experience.
Successful interview with the College of Nursing.
Written Statement of Purpose.
An applicant whose first language is not English and/or does not have a degree from an institution where English is the primary language of instruction is required to demonstrate English proficiency by submitting a recent TOEFL or IELTS score.
