Students are assigned a faculty mentor on day-one of the program and immediately begin the process of writing their research question.
The interdisciplinary degree and cohort model allow students to interact with professionals from a variety disciplines and experience community with likeminded scholar-practitioners to enhance their learning on leadership.
Students are equipped with biblically based ethical principles and practices which emphasize character, courage and wisdom.

Leadership Legacy The legacy of Dr. Paul and Annie Kienel is consistent with the highest ideas of leadership and the Leadership Institute at CBU. Paul and Annie met when Annie was a student at Bethany Bible College. They were married in July of 1957. Annie worked alongside Paul when he became the leader of the California Association of Christian Schools. Additionally, Annie Kienel served in the Civilian Personnel Office at McClellan Air Force Base. Paul is the founder and president emeritus of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), the largest organization of Protestant schools in the world. Annie served as the office manager for the California Association of Christian Schools. She traveled widely with her husband and has been a support to him in his ministry with ACSI.

Furthermore, Paul was co-founder and vice chairman of The CoMission, the largest missions cooperative in the history of the Evangelical Christian community. Paul also co-founded the Evangelical Christian Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions in America. He is the author of ten books including a two-volume “History of Christian School Education.”

Faculty Spotlight Mary Ann Pearson, Ed.D. Professor of Communication, Kienel Leadership Institute
Dr. Mary Ann Pearson has more than 30 years of experience in leadership, journalism, public relations and education. Pearson worked in public relations specializing in public relations campaigns in property management, real estate and nonprofit organizations. Pearson served as a public-school teacher for the Colton Joint Unified School District and has volunteered with numerous organizations including Give Big Riverside, Girl Scouts of America, the Riverside Downtown Partnership and PRSA. Pearson strives to help students to improve academic writing and media writing. The journey through dissertation work can be intense. Witnessing students flourish as they complete the coursework and work on research and writing the dissertation is a joyful experience. Pearson studied educational leadership with research areas including mentoring, effective instruction, work-life balance, shared leadership, adversity quotient, emotional intelligence and online mentoring.

Admissions Requirements Application for admission with a $45 application fee Official transcript from an accredited college or university reflecting the completion of a master’s degree. 3.0 cumulative or last 60/90 unit GPA. Additional opportunities may be available for a student to overcome an unsatisfactory GPA. Professional essay addressing the following: •
