Faculty Spotlight

I knew then that God had called me to work with college students when I was a senior in college. Two weeks after I graduated from a university in Texas, I moved to California, where I participated in a semester missions project through the North American Mission Board. I participated in an outreach ministry connected to student organizations at a state university in Southern California. After that semester, I moved to Northern California to attend Gateway Seminary, started my Master of Divinity degree, and began work in campus ministry through my church. I likewise had an outreach ministry to a local community college and a four-year catholic university. Although I loved the ministry, I soon learned that my work would be limited. I needed to work within a university to meet students where they were as they navigated their college experiences and equip them to be instruments of change in the world. To accomplish this mission, I needed to get professional experience.

I began my professional journey in administration by working in a registrar’s office at the seminary where I had earned a Master of Divinity degree. It wasn’t long before I pursued a second master’s degree to equip me to engage with students as they navigate their college experience. I moved back to Southern California and began my master’s in education with a concentration in college student affairs. I earned my field experience in residence life at CBU. My journey to live out my purpose continued at CBU in areas of campus activities, student retention, academic administration and as a faculty member. When I began teaching, my focus changed from personally connecting with undergraduate students to mobilizing graduate students to meet students where they are and equip them to be world changers.

I have taught classes in student retention, college student development, supervised practice, statistics and research methods. My current area of research is global engagement and faith integration. I am particularly interested in how students learn to integrate faith and learning as they engage in different cultural contexts. Now, I look forward to the next leg of my journey, equipping leaders in higher education to lead and equip their teams to transform the college campus and the world.
