This recital is presented under the direction of Professor Thomas Idzinski in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the B.A. in Music degree.
Abraham Andrade’s musical journey began in the fourth grade when he first picked up the trumpet. What started as a simple introduction quickly grew into a deep and lasting passion for music. Eager to learn and improve, Abraham immersed himself in music throughout his elementary and high school years, developing both his skills and his appreciation for the art. During this time, he discovered not only a love for performing but also a calling to pursue a future in music education. After graduating from high school in May 2017, Abraham returned to Garey High School to volunteer his time with the music program, seeking hands- on experience working with students. His dedication and commitment to the program eventually led to an o\icial position within the Pomona Unified School District. Through this work, Abraham has continued to grow as both a musician and mentor, gaining valuable insight into the impact that music education can have on young people. Beyond his passion for music, Abraham is deeply committed to supporting low-income students and helping them achieve a meaningful and fulfilling high school experience. He strives to be a positive influence, o\ering guidance, encouragement, and support to those who need it most. With aspirations of earning his teaching credential, Abraham hopes to become a music educator who not only shares his knowledge but also inspires the next generation to discover their own passion and purpose through music.
COLLABORATIVE ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES
Dr. Angela Brand
Dr. Angela Brand Butler is a full professor at California Baptist University. She earned a doctoral degree from the Claremont Graduate School in orchestral conducting, specializing in 18th century works. During her doctoral studies, the American Symphony Orchestra League Conductor Competition awarded Angela Brand as one of its five conductors of note. She studied and performed as a postgraduate assistant at the University of WisconsinMadison in Opera conducting. She also holds a double master’s degree from Bowling Green State University, in performance and education, concentrating on harpsichord continuo/ direction and early music ensembles. Her undergraduate degree is in piano performance from Auburn University, where she studied with William Tamblyn. Dr. Brand is a Professor in the Collinsworth School of the Performing Arts (SOPA), where she teaches Chamber Music, Music History, and Private Instruction. She is the founding member and director of the CBU String Ensemble, CBU Chamber Orchestra, and, currently, SOPA’s Collegium Musicum. Dr. Brand is a harpsichordist, pianist, and violist. Her performances include ensemble work with orchestras, accompanying, and numerous accounts of continuo playing in the United States, Canada, England, and Europe.
Professor Brenda Reinebach
During her undergraduate years, Brenda Reinebach double majored in Vocal Performance and Music Education, with a piano performance major, and won a South Carolina State performance competition with the Saint-Saëns Concerto in G Minor. Moving to CA in 1985, she assumed directorship of the piano classes at Azusa Pacific University along with the Department of Vocal Performance. Her keyboard skills as a church musician, collaborative pianist, and keyboard improviser run the gamut from Christian contemporary classical to commercial literature.
Professor Thomas Idzinski
Southern California native Thomas C. Idzinski is a freelance tubist, conductor, and educator, currently serving as Principal Tubist of the Santa Monica Symphony and as Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at California Baptist University. As a dedicated educator, Thomas has been a cornerstone of the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) faculty for nearly a decade, having joined in 2016. He currently serves as the Director of the Wind Ensemble and Director of the Symphonic Band, fostering a culture of excellence within the instrumental music program. Beyond OCSA, his teaching career includes positions at California State University, Stanislaus, and directing the Samueli Academy Instrumental Music Program, founded in partnership with the House of Blues. Thomas earned both his Bachelor’s (2017) and Master’s (2021) degrees in Tuba Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach, where he studied with Roger Bobo, John Van Houten, Gabriel Sears, and Dr. Anthony Mazzaferro. He has participated in masterclasses with The Dallas Brass, The Boston Brass, and world-renowned soloists, including Øystein Baadsvik and Sam Pilafian. An active performer, he has appeared with the Santa Barbara Opera, Redlands Symphony, San Bernardino Symphony, Golden State Pops, and more. Thomas remains committed to the next generation of musicians, with his students regularly earning placements at top -tier conservatories and universities nationwide.
Abigail Ortiz
Abigail Ortiz is a dedicated trombone player and aspiring audio engineer and music producer currently studying studio production at California Baptist University. Now in her second year after transferring from Riverside City College, she serves as principal trombone in the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble. Her performance background informs her technical approach to sound, allowing her to bring a musician’s perspective into the world of audio engineering. Abigail is passionate about refining her craft and building a career that bridges artistry and production.
Andrew Joseph Calvillo
Andrew Calvillo is a dedicated tuba player and aspiring music educator currently pursuing a Master's degree in Music Education at California Baptist University. He previously earned his bachelor's degree in music education from the same institution, where he developed a strong foundation in both performance and teaching. Andrew has performed and continues to be actively involved in the university’s Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Lancer Pep Band, gaining valuable ensemble experience. Through these opportunities, he has refined his musicianship and versatility as a performer. Andrew studies tuba under the guidance of Professor Thomas Idzinski, further developing his artistry and pedagogical approach.

This accomplishment is as much his as it is mine, and I dedicate this performance to him with all my heart. Finally, to my wife, Veronica Andrade, thank you for being my foundation through it all. Your love, patience, and belief in me have carried me through the most challenging moments and made the victories even more meaningful. This recital represents not just my work, but the support, love, and inspiration each of you has given me. I am forever grateful.
