OUR MISSION
Our mission is to provide quality educational programming that prevents gender and relationship violence. Working with secondary schools, colleges and universities, and communitybased organizations and agencies, Jana's Campaign delivers specialized and comprehensive prevention programming that is designed to prevent violence, build healthy relationships, and create new social norms.
OUR VISION
Our vision is that Jana’s Campaign will play a significant role in ending relationship-based violence and be a catalyst for social change. We believe that by working with thousands of other activists from around the world, this social disease can be eradicated in a single generation. Simply, we plan to do our part.

Our direct work with students and citizens is made possible by partnering with and through allies. Our prevention model is based on delivering our prevention education programs through secondary schools, colleges and universities, and community-based organizations.
By building strong and collaborative partnerships with these local entities, we can better leverage resources, build on each other's strengths and talents, and exchange organizational capacity that encourages sustainability.
On July 3, 2008, Jana Lynne Mackey lost her life to violence perpetrated by an ex-boyfriend in Lawrence, Kansas. The 25-year-old University of Kansas law student was an advocate for women’s rights and spent years volunteering to aid victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. As a passionate social and women’s activist, Jana fought for equality and social justice at every turn.
Described as “honey on steel,” Jana Lynne Mackey was the kind of woman who inspired others. She inspired through her words, her song, and her actions. In March 2008, Jana attended a Women’s Leadership Conference, where she was asked to prioritize her top personal values. Jana identified her most important value as “equality for all persons,” and her second most important as “the courage to stand up for her own beliefs.” Jana ‘walked’ her values. With these values, coupled with her years of activism and political experience, Jana believed a law degree was the next step in her journey to become the most effective advocate possible for women and other underrepresented groups.
Jana was beautiful, intelligent, and kind. She was an advocate, a friend, a sister, a daughter. She was magnetic. She was a bright spot on an ordinary day. Jana was a hero. Jana is missed.

In 2025, we made progress in our work to prevent relationship-based violence. Every program we delivered, every conversation we started, and every partnership we cultivated reinforced one simple truth: prevention starts with knowledge.
When individuals have the skills and tools to recognize, understand, and challenge harmful behaviors, they can create change within their own communities. That belief continues to guide our work.
We’re proud of the strides we’ve made, especially reaching the milestone of directly impacting more than 100,000 K–12 students! Although we know this work is far from complete, in many ways, we’re just getting started. We are grateful for youour donors, partners, supporters, and friends - who stand with us in this work. SECONDARY EDUCATION
We understand that one of the most effective ways to prevent teen dating violence is to reach young people right as they're forming their first relationships. By equipping adolescents with the skills to distinguish healthy from unhealthy relationship behaviors, we can ultimately shift culture and address relationship-based violence at its roots. We are dedicated to partnering with middle and high schools and youth organizations to deliver evidence-based prevention education, curricular and co-curricular programs, and advocate for comprehensive, schoolwide approaches to create lasting, transformational change.

DRIVING PREVENTION FORWARD
In 2025, we reached a major milestone, surpassing 100,000 K–12 students directly impacted by teen dating violence prevention education since 2013. This achievement reflects years of work to equip young people with the knowledge and skills necessary to build healthy relationships and prevent violence before it begins. Through collaborative partnerships with schools and youth-based organizations, our team of Prevention Educators delivers age-appropriate programming that focuses on healthy relationship behaviors, warning signs of violence, and strategies for creating a culture of strong respect among adolescents.
This milestone would not have been possible without the support of educators, donors, and students who believe in prevention. We extend a special thank you to Board Member and professor of Communications Studies at Fort Hays State University, Dr. Hsin-Yen Yang, for encouraging her students to create materials to assist us in sharing and celebrating this milestone.

HIGHER EDUCATION
Colleges and universities have both the opportunity and the responsibility to prevent relationship-based violence on campus. We partner with higher education institutions to strengthen their prevention and response efforts of sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking, providing tailored training and resources to support sustainable change. Additionally, we host regional, affordable Summits that bring together administrators, faculty, staff, and students alongside national experts and local practitioners to share insights and best practices, and build the collaborative networks needed to drive meaningful change.

-Heartland Campus Safety Summit Attendee
In the Summer of 2025, Jana's Campaign and NACADA, the Global Community for Academic Advising, co-developed Advising with Care: Supporting Students Through a Trauma-Informed Lens, an innovative eTutorial introducing the first comprehensive Trauma-Informed Advising framework designed specifically for higher education. Building on SAMHSA's six Guiding Principles of TraumaInformed Care, the online course adds four advising-specific principles tailored to the context of academic advising. Through the inaugural iteration of the eTutorial and a webinar, 96 institutions from 3 countries - the US, Canada, and South Africa- representing 33 states and 4 provinces were impacted.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION
We believe in the power of speaking out about the issues of relationship-based violence. We partner with community-based organizations and agencies to deliver educational programming that raises awareness and equips communities with the tools to respond and take action. We mobilize volunteers and community members to become advocates for change because lasting impact occurs when communities are engaged and empowered together.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER FUNDRAISING INITATIVE
We believe education is one of the most powerful tools to prevent relationshipbased violence. Last year, we launched the second annual Knowledge is Power: Prevention Fundraising Initiative, a collective effort to raise $100,000 to sustain and expand our prevention education programming. The initiative focused on three key areas:
1.Back to School - As students returned to classrooms, we delivered prevention education at a time when it mattered most. Demand for programming continues to grow across Kansas and beyond, and this initiative helped us meet that need. Our work included classroom presentations, school assemblies, curriculum training & integration, student-led service projects, and educator trainings; equipping young people and the adults in their lives with the tools to recognize unhealthy behaviors, build respectful relationships, and take action to prevent violence before it starts. These programs sparked conversations and changed lives.
2.Empty Place at the Table - Every October, we host an annual gala fundraiser to celebrate our progress and renew our commitment to violence prevention. Proceeds from the event sustain our education and violence prevention efforts in schools, on college campuses, and in communities.
3.Year-end giving allows our programs to grow and extends our impact into the next year.
The success of the 2025 Knowledge is Power initiative was made possible by the generosity of our supporters. As we prepare to relaunch this initiative in August 2026, we invite you to contribute and help us reach our goal.
Early support not only sustains our existing programs but also fuels the development of new, innovative prevention initiatives and enhancements to our current training offerings. Your investments allow us to respond to emerging needs, strengthen the quality and reach of our programming, and ensure our work remains relevant, effective, and impactful.
