She felt her faith slipping away, even though she had been raised in a Christian home. “I was born in a Christian family, but I was not obedient to God and wasn’t following His teachings,” Martha shared, revealing her struggles. ne of my favorite things about Christmas is receiving Christmas cards. This beautiful tradition became part of my life about 10 years ago. I especially love cards with family photos—imagining the effort behind them; coordinating outfits, timing, and weather; and finding the perfect photographer. Each card feels like a cherished gift. There’s an emotional connection when I open my mail and find a Christmas card. It makes me feel loved and remembered. A card is more than paper; it’s a wish, a blessing, or a thoughtful greeting, like in 3 John 1:2, which says, Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well (niv). One particular friend’s card stands out each year with its creative design and a poem recounting her family’s highlights. Her intention isn’t to show off but to share joy, adventures, and how God has blessed them. The Apostle John mirrors this in his writing: It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth. ... I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth (vv. 3-4). Christmas cards can be a ministry to others and ourselves. They encourage us to share love, write uplifting words, and pray for those we send them to. A simple card can bring a smile, a verse someone needs, or a reminder that it’s all for the sake of His name.

If Adam and Eve chose to disobey God, why do we still have to suffer the consequences of their sin today? When Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, humanity became aware of right and wrong—and that awareness affects us all. With this knowledge, we often become our own harshest judges. And many of us constantly condemn ourselves in our thoughts. Psychologists say most of our self-talk is negative. We replay regrets and mistakes—“I should have… I could have…”—until it takes a toll on our health, bringing stress and even physical problems. That’s the real legacy of Adam and Eve: the inner voice of guilt and condemnation that we face every day. But Jesus offers us freedom. When we turn to Him, He cleanses us from all unrighteousness and sees us as spotless in His presence. Through His grace, we can stop judging ourselves and live with peace and joy—knowing we are fully forgiven and deeply loved.

A STAR SHALL RISE

At Christmastime, we often picture the star of Bethlehem shining brightly over a manger. But long before that night in Bethlehem, God gave a sign, a prophecy carved not just in Scripture, but even in stone that pointed to the coming of Christ. In Numbers 24:17, Balaam, an unlikely prophet from a foreign land, was hired to curse Israel. Yet instead of a curse, God gave him a vision: “A Star shall come out of Jacob; a Scepter shall rise out of Israel.” This was one of the earliest prophecies about the Messiah. And, remarkably, God chose someone outside His covenant people to proclaim it. History and archaeology affirm it. To this day, you can visit a temple associated with Balaam’s prophecies, where inscriptions confirm these ancient declarations over Israel. These aren’t just religious traditions; they’re historical markers. The Scriptures we celebrate at Christmas are rooted in time, place, and prophecy. The Magi, men of wisdom and learning, saw the sign of that star and followed it in faith. Their journey led them to the One the heavens had proclaimed. The Word became flesh, and God’s promise was fulfilled. They came to worship. And their journey invites us to do the same. Today, the same God who placed that star in the sky offers a personal invitation: Let the light of Christ be born in your heart. This Christmas, don’t just celebrate history; embrace the reality. Isaiah 9:6 declares, “His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” That same Prince of Peace is present now, inviting you to draw near, believe, and worship. So, look beyond the decorations and traditions. Let your heart respond like the wise men did with awe, worship, and joy. The Star has risen. The Savior has come. God bless you, and Merry Christmas!
