He is Able Dear Friends, Welcome to the latest edition of Reach magazine; filled with great articles and updates to bless you and keep you informed of the global ministry of CBN! This edition’s theme is all about asking, perseverance and believing God for the things we ask for. Our CEO Gordon Robertson shares about asking and persistence from Jesus’ perspective. God is honoured by our bold requests as He is able to demonstrate to us that He can do far more than we can ask or imagine!

As a special treat for this edition, we included a 4-page update on CBN’s work in the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

This snapshot ministry update will give you a good picture of how CBN partners are making a difference in the lives of so many people across the region.

From reaching out daily through TV broadcasts and social media to providing free medical check-ups to poor families in Albania, we do it all in Jesus’ Name! I remember

our CBN humanitarian director once saying: “a bowl of rice is no substitute for the Gospel”.

The food is very much needed, but we nurture not only the body but also the soul!

Persevering Prayer Gordon Robertson, CBN CEO He Who Promised Is Faithful.

So often as Christians, we pray these half-hearted prayers and we don’t really lay hold of God. As a result, we are frustrated in our prayer life because we are not seeing the answers we so desperately want. But Jesus gave us a tremendous clue as to how to obtain answers to prayer. You find it in the parable of the man who came to his friend at midnight, and he asked him for three loaves of bread.

And He said to them, “Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, “Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; and he will answer from within and say, “Do not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you’? I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs.

Luke 11:5-8 NKJV The good thing about this parable is that he is not asking for himself; he is asking for his friend. Jesus is telling us it is because of his persistence in asking. He knows that his friend has bread, he knows that his other friend has a need, and he knows that if he can connect the two together, the need will be filled. Because of his persistence in prayer, the friend answers.

It is the same with God; it is because of our insistence, our persistence in prayer, that we obtain answers. And it is through this persistence of prayer that we see change.

You need to keep in mind the friend is not asking for himself. He is asking for someone else. He is acting as a mediator between the two. And if we take on that role in prayer, then suddenly we will find ourselves transformed. No longer are these selfish prayers, but we are asking as a mediator between a source of supply and a source of need. And it is because of our persistence in prayer that we see the answer.

of supply? If we will be persistent in praying for those needs of others, then we will see the answer to prayer.

Then Jesus does something very unusual, where He gives us a Kingdom principle. These are the words of Jesus Christ. He is part of the trinity.

His words are forever: So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; Knock, and it will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks receives, And he who seeks finds, And to him who knocks it will be opened.

Luke 11:9-10 NKJV

the Kingdom of God, that if you keep asking, you will keep getting answers; if you keep seeking, you will keep finding; if you keep knocking, it will be opened to you. The greatest hindrance to successful prayer is being content in where you are with God. It’s that hunger, it’s that searching after that God really loves and He really wants to fill - those who are hungry, those who are thirsty.

Then Jesus adds something else at the very end here. … how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him! Luke 11:13 NKJV

“So, I say to you, ask.” And the Greek behind that is ask and keep on asking, seek and keep on seeking. Now, you have these as general Kingdom principles. If you will, these are laws of PAGE 05

Beth Parkinson CBN Europe Presenter

Beth is part of the CBN Europe production team, bringing stories of life change and ministry moments to homes throughout the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand through our daily TV broadcasts on Revelation TV, TBN UK and others.

She joined CBN in September 2018 as a freelance presenter and became a permanent member of staff in early 2019.

Beth took 3 years to study performing arts from 20042007 and has also taken basic training as a Pilates Instructor in this time. She graduated from PAGE 06

The University of Manchester in 2010, with a BSc in Biology.

She met her husband at church in Manchester and, having gotten married in 2009, they remained in Manchester until 2011 when God called them to move to Hereford to be involved in the local church.

Working in a variety of roles, including having her own Pilates and Cake businesses, and working as demonstrator for a craft company, Beth continued to grow in her love of public speaking, teaching and presenting.

In 2013, Beth and her husband Phil moved to Siem Reap,

CBN MEET Cambodia, to plant a new church as part of a team, working with local charities, and sharing the Gospel.

On returning to the UK they made Cardiff, Wales, their home, again working in multiple roles to facilitate their passion and calling to serve the church in that city.

They were part of another church planting team sent out to Mombasa, Kenya from 20162017, before moving back to Hereford, UK. Throughout this time, they have been involved in leading small groups within church, supporting Campus Pastors in various locations and cultures, pastoring through one to one relationships and being involved in outreaches and ministries in each city they’ve lived.

Throughout this time, Beth’s heart for the great commission, for seeing people all over the world - and at ‘home’ in the UK - come to know Jesus in a powerful, intimate, lifechanging way has continued to increase.

part of the CBN team is a huge privilege as she continues to hone those talents and pursue the call on her life to share the love of Jesus with as many people as she can.

She and her husband of 10 years, Phil, are expecting their first baby this summer, a miraculous answer to prayer and a reminder of God’s goodness and faithfulness to them throughout every season.

Phil also works for CBN Europe as an IT Team Leader, and together they both still hold roles within their local church, seeing God move in the lives of individuals around them.

Amongst her various roles, Beth is very much a ‘people person’, loves to bring laughter into every room she’s in, enjoys patchwork and fabric crafting, baking and cooking and teaching friends those skills, with a good cup of tea in hand the whole time.

What a blessing Beth is to the CBN Europe team and the wider CBN family!

Her love of communication and teaching has led her to find more avenues to express the goodness of God in her own life through sharing her testimony and bringing Biblical truths to those she meets. Becoming PAGE 07

Allen Carter Partner Relations

Hello Allen, it’s great to see you again!

Having spent several years managing the CBN Europe office, we’re delighted to hear that you are branching out into a new role as Partner Relations Manager.

What does your new role look like?

I am going to focus on how to best honour and appreciate our CBN partners to ensure that as a ministry we look for ways to engage and tell our unique stories of transformation even better. As CBN Europe, all of PAGE 08

our finances are raised here in the UK and Europe so to have the opportunity to speak to or meet with our current and future partners and help raise the awareness of CBN, Orphan’s Promise, Operation Blessing and Superbook, will be such a blessing.

We plan on having local partner events around the country to share the impact that CBN partners are having by joining hands together to advance God’s kingdom. Already I have had the privilege of meeting and speaking with several CBN partners. Hearing about how God is impacting their

CBN MEET lives through the ministry totally blesses my heart.

What element of your new role are you most excited about?

I love people and have a pastoral heart so when you combine this with CBN Europe’s mission statement “Making Jesus known in every household in the UK, Europe and beyond”, this opportunity becomes my passion.

Every day within our offices in Hereford we hear stories of lives which have been changed and transformed by the Gospel which is “Good News” and we want to share this with our CBN family. We also want to hear from you. If you have a story of how God has changed or turned your life around, we would love to hear from you. Part of my role will include some travel with our production team to research, interview and film some of these stories.

CBN Europe Media Studio

You may remember from our December issue of the REACH magazine that we were undertaking some exciting developments! We began work on a purpose-built space to facilitate the creation of more UK content - our Media Studio.

The Studio has come on leaps and bounds with a fullyfurnished set now in place.

This enables us to record ministry slots every week. With over 4 months of new content ready for our TV outlets (TBN and Revelation), the space is already in full use.

The production team have been hard at work making this PAGE 10

content to the highest quality.

We believe that this is only the beginning of what we will see accomplished. So far, we have been able to make content presented by Beth Parkinson, also introduced in this month’s magazine. As we expand our studio equipment, we believe that we will be able to create interview and discussion sections with many presenters or guests talking about real-life issues that so many of us face.

More studio equipment will also mean that we can create content for social media, which we know will give us a powerful voice into the teen and young adult audience. Bringing hope

ASK! An ‘ask’ is a simple yet powerful thing that can often outwork itself either as a simple question or request, or as an outright, audacious game changer. Either way, it usually requires some kind of response from somebody, somewhere for something!

No matter who we are or where we are, questions fill all our days with many asks; seamlessly woven into our day to day dialogue.

But what happens if we were to stop asking? If we were to cut the dialogue because we’ve lost hope or faith in a particular need,

FEATURED person, promise or situation in our lives?

Well, the good news is that God never forgets or overlooks any ask we bring before Him and though we can often become despondent or discouraged, if our questions seem to go unanswered over weeks, months or even years, the ask will remain in the attention of God until He makes His response.

Nothing is discounted, nothing disregarded but what are the things that could be considered in our asks?

Motive is always a helpful place to start because motive aligns the posture of our hearts before God. James 4:2-3

tells us “you do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

Undoubtedly, Jesus wants each and every one of us to come to Him and ask, to make any and every request known to God, but the way in which we present that ask before Him can often carry as much weight as the burden itself.

The Bible says “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all He has done”

FEATURED (Philippians 4:6, NLT). Sometimes this one-line instruction can seem or feel easier said than done! Regardless of how it seems or feels, the power, the blessing and often the answer to an ask is found in the simplicity of outworking this instruction; choosing not to worry but to pray and simply thank God for what we already have rather than focusing on what we yet don’t!

We’re all guilty of overcomplicating things, condemning or excusing ourselves for asking or not asking at all, but God wants us to lay all else aside and get back to the simplicity of making the request known. At the end of the day, the answer is like to be 1 of only 3 answers “Yes, No or Not yet”, so what’s to be feared?

The truth is that God desires to give good gifts to His children (see Matthew 7:11) and like any parent, He loves to hear His children’s voice, hence the whole point of an ask! However, some of us just expect God to answer without even making the ask; at times excusing our lack of communication with Him on His omniscient, all-knowing power.

In such times, we’re all guilty of not outrightly asking God for His input, help or provision in our situations because ‘He already knows’!

Indeed, God is omniscient and it’s true, He does already know our ask - and the answer to it - before we’ve even opened our mouths; but it’s not always about the ask but about the posture and condition of our hearts.

It’s about that verbal and relational communication with God as our Father.

In all honesty, many of us love to hear the sounds of our own voice but I want to encourage you today that Jesus too loves the sound of your voice! He also loves the sound of your silence as you wait on Him and trust Him with the answer to your ask. It is my hope and prayer that God is found in all of your questions and your answers in any and every ask!

Through your partnership with CBN, you are impacting the lives of people in the UK, Europe and beyond! It is my privilege to take you on a journey through Europe and share how your support is impacting nations with the Gospel. Thank you for your generous support!

EASTERN EUROPE

Our CBN South East Europe office is based in Zagreb, Croatia.

From here we reach out to the Balkan countries (Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania and Greece).

In Croatia and Macedonia we air Superbook on national TV channels, reaching thousands of children every week with the stories of the Bible. Across the Balkan region we organise Superbook ministry events, both public and in partnership with the churches. We see great fruit from the outreach, impacting children as well as entire families!

In Croatia we fund a prison project, providing ministry and rehabilitation to prisoners and ex-prisoners, assisting families with ministry and PAGE 15

GLOBAL IMPACT practical assistance. Recently, 10 people accepted Jesus into their hearts! In Croatia we also helped a local pastor to rebuild his house which was falling apart, allowing him and his family to live and minister to the churches in Croatia.

In Bosnia we support an Orphan’s Promise project which reaches out to vulnerable children and families through floorball, music and medical assistance. Recently we took the children to a tournament in Banja Luka where they won first place! Through this project children have the opportunity to meet kids from other towns, travel to places they have never been, and above all, have a chance to see who God really is.

In Serbia, we support the “House of Opportunity” project that reaches out to orphans and foster children who leave care at the age of 18. Through this transition house we are helping these young adults through life skills (cooking, budgeting, preparing for job interviews), education, training and mentoring, while offering them a safe environment to grow and develop.

In Albania, we broadcast Superbook on a national TV channel and also air CBN programming on a Christian TV station. A CBN PAGE 16

medical outreach is providing essential medical check-ups and medication to poor and vulnerable families.

In Poland, Superbook is airing on a national TV channel, reaching thousands of children and families each week. We are working with ministries and local churches to organise Superbook events, impacting children and families with the Good News of Jesus. CBN programming also airs on TBN Poland. One of our staff members, Ania, is Polish and has been instrumental in this development.

Salcho in Bulgaria, supported by Orphans Promise

In Bulgaria, Superbook is broadcast on the state owned Bulgarian National Channel, reaching many children and families with the Bible stories.

Through strong ministry partnerships we are able to take Superbook to remote villages and share the Gospel with children and families.

CBN programming is also

GLOBAL IMPACT distributed through public screening events and DVD distribution. Through Orphan’s Promise we are reaching out to Roma children and young adults through after school programmes, providing food, education, emotional and spiritual support.

In Hungary we are broadcasting CBN programming including Superbook on national TV, reaching many viewers with the truth of God’s Word.

In Romania, we have a strong partnership with a Christian TV ministry that broadcast CBN programming in Romanian language on over 30 cable and satellite channels in Romania and Moldova. Superbook Academy for churches has been translated in Romanian, impacting a new generation with the stories of the Bible.

CBN Moldova is reaching out to the nation of Moldova through CBN TV broadcasts and children’s ministry with Superbook.

CBN programming, including Superbook, is broadcast on state owned Moldova 1 TV station. Working with the local churches, Superbook Clubs and Superbook winter & summer camps are impacting many children and families with the Bible stories, providing opportunities for ministry and practical outreach.

WESTERN EUROPE

Andreas Waldmann, 700 Club Deutschland Presenter

Our CBN UK office is also the headquarters for CBN Europe, raising awareness and funds for all the work we do in the region of Europe. With a staff of 30 in various departments, we are able to bring hope and life to viewers across the region through daily TV broadcasts, our 700 Club Prayer Centre, weekly UK segments for The 700 Club and through social media content. We share Superbook to around 470 UK primary schools, international schools and home schools, impacting a new generation!

Our office in Hamburg, Germany is responsible for sharing the Good News of Jesus to German speaking territories in Europe. We broadcast a German version of The 700 Club via satellite, cable and internet, and broadcast Superbook in German language. We operate a Prayer Centre to provide a life line to callers who watch PAGE 17

GLOBAL IMPACT the shows.

We are currently working on translating CBN programmes including Superbook in my native language which is Dutch. In partnership with a Christian TV channel in The Netherlands we hope to reach more viewers with the Gospel message. CBN records various ministry programmes in our TV studio in Brussels, including 700 Club in German and French language.

In France we broadcast the French 700 Club programme via satellite, also reaching French speaking audiences in West Africa. Through a ministry partnership based in Paris we are reaching French speaking children and families through the Superbook series.

Superbook Academy for churches is being translated into French. This summer we hope to broadcast Superbook on national TV in France, reaching thousands of children and families!

In Scandinavia and northern Europe we work closely with Christian broadcasters in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia and Denmark to translate and broadcast CBN programming in these countries and languages. Superbook has been translated into Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Estonian and soon also in Danish. CBN’s PAGE 18

English language programmes are blessing Scandinavian viewers on a daily basis.

We are broadcasting CBN programming on the Australian Christian Channel in Australia and work closely with UCB in Australia to distribute Superbook through Koorong Christian bookstores, to families through the Superbook Club and to churches through Superbook Academy. Heather’s business was in the ground, she had no money for her family or for food. She couldn’t even send her kids to school.

Heather has been messaging us for about a month now, pleading for God’s provision. She has just messaged us to let us know that someone felt led by the Spirit to invest in her business, her children are now back in school and she has more than enough for her and her family! Praise God!

Helen had been out of work for some time, then when she thought that work was now coming along, someone would cancel the placements she was selecting for unexplained reasons.

Helen had even stopped subscribing to the 700 club because of arrears in bills. One day, she emailed CBN with prayer for work. Now Helen has had work confirmed and will be ongoing for the next 6 weeks. Although she has not received her first wages, Helen has called the 700 club – in faith - to become a partner again. God is faithful!

Anne was addicted to both heroin and crack cocaine, as well as being involved in prostitution and has 2 children who were removed from her through social services. Anne was saved 6 months ago and hasn’t touched a single substance since! Her children are now living with her parents, she is completely sold out for Jesus and has just become one of our platinum partners!

Her testimony is truly amazing – all glory to God!

From Anger to Peace 10-year-old Khan Gna wondered why her mum and dad fought so much.

Sometimes she hid to avoid the conflicts.

“One day, my dad was angry and threw a pot out the door because mum didn’t make dinner,” Khan Gna said.

Khan Gna soon began to imitate her parents’ behaviour. She got angry and fought with her classmates.

Then a Sunday School teacher from a church in their village invited Khan Gna and some other kids to watch CBN’s Superbook. Khan Gna quickly connected with the episode The Miracles of Jesus.

“Remember the story when Jesus brought the dead girl back to life,” she said. “It made me so happy. It made me want to believe in Jesus.”

That Sunday, Khan Gna prayed to Jesus to become a Christian.

Khan Gna told her mum and little sister about Jesus and they prayed to become Christians. Convincing her dad to pray, however, was a little more difficult. “At first I didn’t want to hear about the Bible,” said Khan Gna’s dad, “But I noticed how Khan Gna changed after she started watching Superbook.”

A few weeks later, Khan Gna’s dad prayed to become a Christian too, and they all began attending church.

“Now we pray every day,” said Khan Gna. “My family loves each other and there’s no more fighting. Thank you, God, for bringing Superbook to us!”

Pat Robertson Answers Your Questions Are there some prayer requests so big that God will not answer without our fasting – in addition to praying?

I don’t believe that our fasting makes God more powerful than He already is. He is a sovereign God. He can do anything that He wants to do, and He sure doesn’t need our help.

As far as prayer requests being so big, it’s more a question of our faith than anything.

Abraham believed God and God counted it for righteousness. It’s a question of do you say amen to God? Do you believe what He says He is? Do you believe He is who He says He is? That belief is what He wants.

The fact that you fast or don’t fast is not going to have an impact on God. If anything, it may change you. It will get you to a point where you’re more spiritually in tune with God. PAGE 22

Ask, Seek, Knock There is something about being a child that intrigues me. The simplicity of childlike faith that doesn’t take time to reason or to filter what is said, has the confidence to ask and the simplicity to believe that they will receive. Childlike faith asks from a place of vulnerability with the expectation of an answer.

I can remember as a child living on a farm and my brother and I coming up with an idea to ask our parents for a horse. It had always been our dream, so we came up with a plan. We would

FEATURED ask, and if the answer was ‘no’, we would continue to pray and ask. We even came up with a chant which, looking back, was quite annoying - “we want a horse; we want a horse!” After many weeks of asking and using the power of persuasion, Dad and Mum eventually gave in and we became the owners of a beautiful horse.

In Matthew 7:7-8 AMP there is a familiar passage of scripture “Ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking and you will find; knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who keeps on asking receives, and he who keeps on

seeking finds, and to him who keeps on knocking, it will be opened.”

There is something about asking that opens doors of opportunity that probably would not have opened unless there was an initial, persistent ask. When we choose to ask it creates a God-given moment and space for Him to demonstrate his goodness and kindness towards us.

In these verses notice how many times the phrase “keep on” is mentioned after the ask, seek and knock. To keep on speaks of persevering and continuing. Whenever we ask and keep on asking, God’s word says “it will

FEATURED be given to you.” When you seek and keep on seeking you will find, when we knock and keep on knocking the door will be opened to you. There isn’t any suggestion of perhaps or possibly or it might happen, there is absolute certainty that God will respond with “it will be given, it will be opened to you.”

A - ASK S - SEEK K – KNOCK Verse 11 says “if you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”

God already knows the secret desires of our heart and yet He wants us to communicate and ask Him. Our heavenly Father longs and desires to give good gifts. However, there are times that we are reluctant to ask because we are uncertain of the outcome or are ignorant of the fact that what we want is freely available.

I wonder how many gifts and answers to prayers are stored up in heaven simply waiting for us to ask?

John 15:7 says that ‘if you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.’

When we have a living, vibrant relationship with Jesus and allow His word to abide and remain within us, there is a flow that proceeds from His PAGE 28

heart towards us. Every day is a new adventure filled with opportunities and possibilities.

Children have no problem in asking, it’s in their nature. However, as adults, we somehow lose the desire to ask.

We need to learn to pray big audacious prayers believing that our heavenly Father can and will answer with no strings attached.

James 1:17 says “every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”

God is a good God, and an incredible Father and everything good within our lives comes from Him. He is the source, and we cannot take any credit. His goodness and free-flowing, extravagant grace is freely available every day.

Can I encourage you to be childlike and continue to ask your heavenly Father believing that you will receive?

You won’t be disappointed!
