Board of Trustees: Stewards of Mission, Vision, and Lasallian Tradition Christian Brothers High School is blessed with 13 dedicated volunteer trustees who give their time, expertise, and heartfelt commitment to advancing the school’s Lasallian Catholic college preparatory mission. Each trustee participates in Lasallian formation and Policy Governance training through the District of San Francisco New Orleans, ensuring their leadership is grounded in the charism of St. John Baptist de La Salle and focused on the long-term health of the school.

Board Chair Susan Larson shares a deeply personal connection to CB. “Growing up in Sacramento, I had friends who attended CB, who shared a deep pride and love for the school. As a parent, I fell in love with Christian Brothers when my son and daughters were students. The quality education, varied opportunities for extra-curricular activities and intentional care and support they received left a lasting impact on them and our family,” she reflects. “As a Trustee and Chair, I’ve observed and experienced the strength of this community as it has remained true to its mission through COVID-19, leadership transitions, and a changing educational landscape. This has been possible because the school has remained steadfast in its commitment to its values- demonstrating and fostering faith in the Holy Presence of God, delivering exceptional academic programs, providing meaningful tuition assistance, intentionally nurturing an inclusive community of belonging, and ensuring thoughtful planning for the future.”

Connection is a publication of Christian Brothers High School. The purpose of the magazine is to strengthen the connection between the school, alumni, parents, and friends to cultivate community support to assist CB in its operations and advancement, and to recognize and thank its supporters.

As we commemorate the 150th anniversary of Christian Brothers High School, I am deeply honored and profoundly grateful to serve as president during this extraordinary milestone in our school’s history. Rooted in our Catholic faith and the Lasallian tradition of St. John Baptist de La Salle, it is both humbling and inspiring to reflect on how Christian Brothers High School has faithfully lived its mission for a century and a half—educating hearts as well as minds, and forming young people committed to faith, service, and leadership in our community and beyond.

This sesquicentennial moment invites us to pause with deep gratitude for the generations of Christian Brothers, dedicated educators, faithful staff members, students, alumni, and families whose commitment and sacrifice have shaped the CB legacy. From our earliest beginnings to our vibrant present day, guided by our Lasallian Core Principles of faith in the presence of God, respect for all persons, inclusive community, concern for the poor and social justice, and quality education, Christian Brothers High School has remained steadfast in forming graduates who lead with integrity, compassion, and a profound sense of purpose.

Our Falcon family continues to make a difference in Sacramento, throughout California, and across the world.

As we celebrate all that God has accomplished through this remarkable community, we look forward with hope, confidence, and excitement to what lies ahead. Christian Brothers High School is thriving as the largest Catholic high school in our region, proudly serving 1,150 young men and women who represent 70 zip codes across the greater Sacramento area. Our campus reflects the rich diversity of the region we call home, and we are honored to be recognized as number one locally and within the top two percent nationwide in Niche’s Most Diverse High Schools in America rankings.

Our call as Lasallians, to serve those most in need, remains as urgent and essential today as it was in 1876. Through the generosity of our alumni, parents, benefactors, and friends, Christian Brothers High School proudly leads the region in need-based tuition assistance, providing more than $3.3 million to 450 deserving students this year. This commitment ensures that a CB education remains accessible to families from all backgrounds and that the transformative power of a Lasallian education continues to change lives.

This year also marks 70 years on our beloved Oak Park campus, a place that has become a true home for faith, learning, athletic excellence, artistic expression, and service. Deeply rooted in this historic Sacramento neighborhood, we remain committed to being the good neighbors and responsible stewards our mission calls us to be.

institutions, and was known for its riverboat commerce, Honoring the Past, agricultural exports, and railroad connections.

Celebrating the Present, 1876, the De La Salle Christian Brothers established St. Patrick Institute at 12th and K Streets in downtown Boldly Transforming Sacramento. This initiative was born from the vision of Father Patrick Scanlan and the tireless fundraising the Future efforts of community members who sought to provide In 1876, Sacramento was a bustling and rapidly developing city shaped by the aftermath of the California Gold Rush and its designation as the state capital in 1854. Located at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers, the city served as a vital hub for trade and transportation. The city had established churches, grammar schools, and civic

Sacramento’s youth with a rigorous and values-based education. With great fanfare, the school opened in July, welcoming 200 students, ranging from second grade through high school, to the four-room school.

Each classroom could accommodate 65 students and the school could house 20 live-in boarders. The St. Patrick Institute quickly became a beacon of learning, offering both academic and commercial courses to a growing student body.

1968 The school’s name was changed to the one we recognize today, Christian Brothers High School.

1976 Christian Brothers High School celebrates its centennial anniversary

Growing to Meet Student Needs In 1923, with growing enrollment and innovations in curriculum, it became clear that the school would need a new campus. Thanks to a fortuitous real estate transaction, the school moved from its original location at 12th and K Streets to a temporary home for a year before moving into a larger threestory building at 21st and Y St. (Broadway) in 1924. This major relocation also allowed for an expanded home for boarders.

The campus weathered the Great Depression and challenging times. As the Sacramento region looked past the economic hardships and global conflict of the 1930s and 40s, Christian Brothers School looked for ways to revitalize, along with the region. With times changing and a growing need for a modernized high school campus for both boys and girls, Bishop Armstrong High School was established in 1956. Operating as a co-institutional model designed to serve both boys and girls in the junior and senior years of high school. The Brothers taught the boys in one wing while nuns taught the girls in the other. This arrangement lasted until 1964, when the schools transitioned to separate campuses, and Bishop Armstrong evolved into what is now Christian Brothers High School.

A Legacy of Giving It has been said that the first “official” capital campaign for Christian Brothers High School (known in 1876 as the St. Patrick Institute) began in a horse and buggy. At the reins, the formidable Miss Maggie Cunningham who was joined by Mrs. M. Horan and Mrs. Mary Scribner. The women launched a door-to-door effort to raise the remaining $3,000 to bring the Christian Brothers to Sacramento. Father Patrick Scanlan, who operated a school for children at St. Rose’s Church in Sacramento, had been working with a committee and collecting money for several years. He even purchased property on K Street between 11th and 12th on which to build a school.

His goal, enticing the Christian Brothers into operating a school for the boys and young men of Sacramento.

Collectively, the group’s efforts were successful, convincing Catholics, and non-Catholics, who

understood the value of educating their children, to make a sacrifice for a public gain of a better educated, more capable younger generation.

On July 17, 1876, Principal-Director Brother Cianin Griffin, FSC, California Governor William Irwin, and Adjutant General Walsh of the State of California welcomed 200 students to the four-room school. Each classroom could accommodate 65 students and the school could house 20 live-in boarders.

Tuition ranged from $12 to $40 for a year, or from $3 to $10 for a two and one-half month session. In a tradition that proudly continues today, the Brothers were committed to assisting students whose families could not afford the fees.

By year’s end, three additional classrooms were added, and school enrollment had increased to 250 thanks to growing awareness of the great work of the Brothers.

1991 Christian Brothers High School made the transistion to fully coeducational, making it the only Catholic co-ed high school in Sacramento at the time.

Coeducation is Best In the 1980’s, discussions began between the Diocese of Sacramento, CB, the Board of Regents, students, families, alumni and Sacramento’s other Catholic high schools. It soon became clear that coeducation was an idea whose time had come.

CB Principal, Br. Richard Camara, FSC, said at the time “Coeducation is a change that will serve the Brothers, the diocese and, most importantly, the Catholic students and families of Sacramento. The essential qualities of a CB experience will remain - academic excellence, attention to individual needs, student-teacher friendship, the esprit de corps of the student body.”

In 1990, Christian Brothers High School fully opened its doors to young women for the first time in the school’s 114-year history. It was clear that both genders could and absolutely would learn, collaborate, and lead together in the classroom. Thirty-five years later, Br. Richard’s words proved fortuitios as CB is the largest Catholic high school in Sacramento, boasting a diverse student body that is virtually balanced between young men and women and reflective of the world in which graduates will take their place.

rich history, bringing about countless opportunities that make CB students more mature, well-rounded and better positioned as 21st century learners. school expanded its curriculum to include arts, sciences, and athletics.

The Lasallian values of community, service, and faith remained central.

Since then, Christian Brothers High School has emerged as the leading Catholic college-preparatory institution in Northern California. It is the largest and most diverse of the area’s Catholic high schools providing excellent academics in a nurturing, faith-filled community.

The school’s holistic approach to educating the whole child includes outstanding programs in the arts and athletics, alongside numerous opportunities to grow in faith and serve our greater community. Students are encouraged to lead and engage as valued members of our campus community through an abundance of clubs and co-curricular programs. Christian Brothers fosters a vibrant community where students “Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve.”

Oak Park Campus Enhancements In the 21st century, Christian Brothers continued to grow. Major campus developments included the construction of a Science, Math, and Technology Wing in 2002 (now STEM wing), the Jack Witry Field House in 2008, the George Cunningham ’40 Performing Arts Center in 2014, expansion of the St. Joseph Chapel in 2015, and enhanced athletic facilities including the Peter P. Bollinger ’57 Stadium which opened in 2020.

CHRISTIAN BROTHERS HIGH SC Christian Brothers High School proudly celebrated its 150th graduating class with a day of traditions that honored both faith and history. Rooted in a legacy that once saw diplomas conferred just a few short blocks away at the California State Capitol, the celebration began with Baccalaureate Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, officiated by the Most Reverend Bishop Jaime Soto.

Following mass, the celebration continued on campus with a graduation luncheon, offering students, families, faculty and staff time to connect, reminisce, and mark the significance of the day together. In the evening, the Class of 2026 took the stage at Sacramento Memorial Auditorium for the formal commencement ceremony, becoming the 150th class to graduate from Christian Brothers High School with seniors Alessandra Storm Mauricio, Valedictorian, Colsen Nguyen, Salutatorian, and Deneyterio Valdez Jr., Senior Class President, representing their graduating class. Surrounded by proud loved ones and the broader Falcon community, these 288 graduates officially joined a legacy spanning a century and a half, ready to carry forward the school’s enduring Lasallian spirit into the future.

Many graduates also earned awards for their achievements in academics, athletics, arts, and more. Emily Cowan and Pierce Stinson received the Visitor’s Lasallian Award, Simone Huarte, Katherine Koch, and Jackson Levasseur received La Salle Scholar-Athlete Awards. The De La Salle Medal for Excellence in Religion went to Maximus Maldonado and Maya Torres. Amalia Friedman-Pitti and Deneyterio Valdez Jr. received Jack Witry Awards. The Academic Excellence Award went to Alessandra Storm Mauricio. Braeden Briggs and Senyah Haynes were presented with the Brother Ambrose Award for Lasallian Service and Loyalty. Annual La Salle Art Exhibit 2025 The Annual La Salle Art Exhibit on April 25, 2025 feaatured many stunning pieces

The exhibit was held in the Taylor Family Gallery and featured a speed art competetion. Congratulations to Isabella Gomez-Ledford ’25 for winning first place with her piece “Still Presence”, Isabella Dickinson’26 for taking home second place with her piece titled “He Loves Me Not”, and Shae Honda-Scully ’26 for earning third place with her artwork.

Annual La Salle Art Exhibit and Spring Instrumental Concert 2026 The 2026 annual La Salle Art Exhibit took place in the lobby of the George Cunningham ’40 Performing Arts Center on April 29, 2026. Congratulations to Ann Lightstone ’26 for winning Best in Show with her painting, “Untitled”, Lucia Morales ’27 for winning first place with her piece, “Hopeless Jester”, Leyu Emiru ’26 for winning second place with her piece “The Motherland, and Aya Ezzadine ’26 for winning third place with her piece, “No Thoughts”. Following the art exhibit, the student instrumental bands performed their last concert of the school year, where the seniors were also honored for their time in the instrumental arts program.

The theatre and choir programs collaborated for two wonderful performances on May 2, 2026, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Christian Brothers High School.

The Christian Brothers choirs graced the room with their performances spanning over the decades, interwoven with CB history narrated by CB theatre students.

In between performances, the community gathered for a reception filled with historical displays and Sacramento food favorites. Christian Brothers High School was thrilled to welcome guests from our Sacramento community and beyond, but especially the 11 Brothers from the District of San Francisco New Orleans who came to support and celebrate. What a wonderful evening of community, legacy, and arts.

Seven Section Champions for 2025-2026!

Women’s Flag Football Section Champions Congratulations to women’s flag football on their DIII Section Championship title!

The championship game was an exciting watch, ending in a fourth quarter winning touchdown to defeat Del Campo, 1813. This is the women’s flag football’s second section title since the launch of the program.

Women’s Water Polo Section Champions Women’s water polo are your DIII section champions for the second year in a row! With an 8-3 victory over El Camino, the water polo team was able to defend their title at the championship game.

Women’s Volleyball Wins CIF Sac-Joaquin D-III Section Championship Women’s volleyball defeated Ripon in five sets, stiflling a reverse sweep to bring home a DIII Section Championship title.

Men’s Cross Country Section Champ!

Jackson Levasseur ’26 took first place in the DIIII section champion meet for men’s cross country. He continued on to compete in the CIF State Cross Country Championship races with Alena Potter ’28. Jackson placed 6th in D-4 and 53rd (out of just over 1,000 runners) overall in the state and Alena placed 72nd in DIIII and 429th (out of just over 1,000 runners) overall in the state!

Women’s Basketball brings home Division II Section Championship banner The Falcons brought home the C.V.C. League banner AND the Division II Section Championship banner for the 2025-26 season. Coach Shandyn Foster secured her 200th career win this season!

Women’s Track and Field bring home their fourth Division II Section Championship banner Congratulations to women’s track and field, winners of the Division II Section Championship for the fourth year in a row- a feat no other track team at CB has accomplished! At the end of an 11-hour day, our lady Falcons prevailed with a score of 119 to 99 over the Turlock Bulldogs.

Men’s Swim and Dive win Division II Section Championship Congratulations to the men’s swim and dive team for winning the Division II Section Championship! The team was moved up to DII this year after securing the section title last year, and their talents can’t be stopped!

LASALLIAN EDUCATOR Congratulations to Mrs. Cecilia Powers, the 2025 Christian Brothers High School Lasallian Educator of the Year! Candidates are nominated by their peers and selected by the administration for being model Lasallian Catholic educators. Mrs. Powers was lovingly honored during the Founder’s Day all-school Mass on May 9, 2025, surrounded by family, friends, students, colleagues, and past Lasallian Educators of the Year.

“I was incredibly grateful to be selected by peers I respect so much” said Mrs. Powers. “And, then to be greeted by so many recent retirees and previous winners who I love and on whose shoulders I stand in this great work, was truly an honor.”

Mrs. Powers was first hired to teach religion and social studies in 1994. She is currently the principal and previously served in a variety of roles among departments ranging from Student Activities Director, Assistant Principal, and Dean of Students. Among the many qualities that make Mrs. Powers a strong leader and a deserving Lasallian Educator of the Year, is her unwavering commitment to the Christian Brothers community.

“Being part of the CB community has been an enormous blessing, and I feel I have a responsibility to bring my best self every day to contribute to this very special place. I love building meaningful relationships with students and encouraging them to be their best selves every day,” said Mrs. Powers.

Fellow Lasallian Educator Brother George Van Grieken spoke at the ceremony for Mrs. Powers. Br. George spoke on the importance of the quality of relationships between students and educators and how Mrs. Powers’ life and work have exemplified the power of relationships in a Lasallian community.

“Our Lasallian Educator of the Year is someone for whom relationships are second nature – someone who brings life and conveys love in virtually every encounter,” said Br. George. “No matter the context, this person has developed a natural capacity to read relational circumstances and respond with the right word, phrase, or perhaps question or challenge.”

Fanananapazir was a part of student coucil while Mrs. Powers worked in the Lasallian Student Life Office for Student Activities.

“Despite having countless responsibilities at school and home, Mrs. Powers always made me feel like I had her full attention,” said Sameh Fananapazir. “She made us feel like we mattered - not just as students or leaders, but as people. That’s not something you can teach - it’s just who she is.”

Nothing makes me happier than sending off our seniors at graduation and knowing they are ready to embrace their next step in their lives,” said Mrs. Powers.

LASALLIAN EDUCATOR Spirited cheers filled the room as Maureen Wanket’s name was announced as the 2026 Christian Brothers High School Lasallian Educator of the Year. Visibly moved, she graciously and humbly accepted the honor, made even more special with a surprise appearance by her husband, Jim, and daughter, Margaret ’22, who joined the celebration.

Wanket was formally recognized during the Founder’s Day all-school Mass on April 30, surrounded by family, friends, students, colleagues, and past recipients of this distinguished award. Each year, candidates are nominated by their peers and selected by school leadership for exemplifying the values of a Lasallian Catholic educator.

Since joining the English Department in 2012, Wanket has left an indelible mark on the Christian Brothers community.

Beyond the classroom, she serves as the New Teacher Mentor Program Coordinator. Under her attentive leadership, the program provides support and guidance to new teachers in their early years at CB, reflecting her dedication to sharing the many blessings of Lasallian Catholic education.

Wanket’s commitment to the mission of Christian Brothers extends far beyond her formal roles. Over the years, she has moderated student organizations such as the Black Student Union and the Rap Debate Club, supported students on Kairos retreats, and consistently advocated for young people both in and outside of the classroom.

When she first accepted her role at CB, Mrs. Wanket described the position as her “dream job,” sharing, “I wanted to teach here badly for years and years, and I am so grateful to be here.” That sense of gratitude and purpose continues to guide her work today.

OF THE YEAR | 2026 Inspired by a family legacy of educators—including her parents and her uncle, Brother Luke Salm, FSC, Wanket has dedicated more than 30 years to the field of education. She is widely known for her loving, studentcentered approach, prioritizing fairness, empathy, and connection to create a learning environment where all students feel seen and supported.

“When you walk past her classroom, you don’t just see a teacher at a whiteboard or students quietly completing busy work, you see a teacher fully engaged with her students, encouraging and supporting them every step of the way,” shared Jake Hunley ’96, who spoke on behalf of Mrs. Wanket at the ceremony.

He continued, “You hear lively discussion and thoughtful dialogue.

Whether students are diving into the material or exploring the complexities of their own lives, Mrs. Wanket remains rooted in empathy, love, and compassion.”

Student Senyah Haynes ’26 also spoke, reflecting on the lasting impact Mrs. Wanket had on her, even after just one semester in her class.

“Mrs. Wanket has shown me what it means to truly show up for your community,” Haynes shared. “Whether it’s attending football games— even when it’s freezing—or taking time to check in with a student in the hallway, she is always present.”

Haynes added, “She’s also shown me what it means to show up for yourself. Through her walks around the field, journaling alongside us, and her continued dedication to writing, she leads by example.”

When invited to address the crowd during the ceremony, a visibly emotional Wanket remained characteristically humble saying simply, “I love everyone.”

This evening’s dinner served as an opportunity to honor and thank CB supporters as well as announce the Ambassadors of the Year honorees, Mike ’65 † and Kate Ingoglia. This year’s dinner began with opening remarks from the Director of Philnthropy, Steve McLaughlin, and a special performance featuring CB students from Honors Chorale and American Sign Language IV. Ambassadors of the Year Mike ’65 † and Kate Ingoglia “You can always give!” is a lesson Kate remembers vividly from her parents. “I grew up in the Bay Area as the oldest of seven children. My dad was blue collar, hardworking, and yet he always gave. If my parents could give money, they gave. If they could give time, they gave. We may not always have had a lot, but we shared.”

That legacy of giving continues in Kate and Mike ’65 † whose love of Catholic education has led them to donate generously in both time and treasure, earning them, albeit reluctantly on their part, the distinction of being named Ambassadors of the Year.

“I look at the experiences I had at the school,” says Mike †. “I wasn’t much of a student. I mean I definitely passed my classes, but the most significant take away for me was the friendships. Many of my friends today are friends from high school and Holy Spirit. At Bishop Armstrong, we were surrounded by legends – Ron Limeberger, Jack Witry, Br. Eugene, and more. They gave us a place to hang out, play sports, have fun, feel confident, and safe.”

“It wasn’t until I joined the Board of Trustees that I fully understood the value of the ’product’ at Christian Brothers is that they truly care for the kids,” says Mike †. “I learned so much more about the Brothers and the emphasis on educating the poor and operating within the framework of St. John Baptist de La Salle.”

Kate vividly remembers when her eldest daughter, Hansine ’99, returned from her eighth-grade shadow day visit, declaring that she really wanted to go to CB. With the school having transitioned to co-education just four years earlier, the majority of students attending Holy Spirit at that time typically moved on to Jesuit and Saint Francis.

“We definitely heard from other parents asking if we knew where the school was located,” muses Kate.

“Really, we were thrilled.

Our kids were raised in the neighborhood where Mike grew up. They were able to attend the grammar school he attended and could now move on to his high school. That was pretty special. And, as a woman I was thrilled with coeducation.”

“It’s wonderful to see how far the school has come since Hansine ’99, Joan ’00, and Anthony ’02 attended,” says Kate. “Kids can pursue a love of STEM, perform in the theater, and play sports on the new athletic field. There is really something for everyone. But the cost of attending private Catholic school today is staggering.”

“Fortunately, for the students of Christian Brothers High School, Mike and Kate are passionate about education, and generous supporters of the school’s need-based tuition assistance program,” says President Crystal LeRoy. Ed.D. “You can’t take away what you learn,” says Mike.

“Education will always stay with a person. Whether they enroll in college or go to work, CB gives students the fundamentals to survive and be successful. I support that.”

“I appreciate the Brothers commitment to equity and emphasis on tuition assistance,” says Kate. “So many kids who need help are able to attend CB and they really deserve this opportunity.”

“Christian Brothers is the longest continuously running high school in the City of Sacramento,” enthuses Mike †. “The Brothers left a strong indelible mark on the school and it’s up to the people who graduated to keep it going.”

With heavy hearts, the CB community prayerfully mourns the February 2026 passing of Mike Ingoglia ’65 †. We are grateful for his presence among us and ask our community to join in prayer for his family and loved ones.

2026 Ambassadors of the Year Sandy Whaley, Cindy McBride, Jimmy Pierson ’02 Talking with Jimmy Pierson ’02, Cindy McBride, and Sandy Whaley about supporting Christian Brothers High School feels a bit like pulling up a chair at a Sunday family dinner - full of laughter, shared stories, and the easy warmth that comes from growing up as the children of the beloved parents, Bill ’73† and Helen Pierson.

For the three of them, Christian Brothers is far more than the school their dad, uncles, and Jimmy attended. It’s a place that shaped their family’s story - where friendships were forged, values took root, and opportunities opened doors their family has never forgotten. Supporting the school isn’t just a tradition they inherited; it’s a legacy they’re proud to carry forward.

“A lot of my upbringing centered around CB,” offers Jimmy. “My dad is one of eight brothers, and many of his closest friends were his high school friends. My closest friends are my CB friends. Looking back, in my freshman year, I did not take advantage of the opportunities available to me at CB. My grades were terrible. Principal Rutten and the community believed in me and gave me an opportunity to go to summer school and turn things around. Without that support, push, and tough love, I don’t know where I would be. That is what CB does, it gives kids opportunities.”

“CB is an important part of our lives,” says Cindy. “My father and brother attended. My daughter is there now, and I have two more boys coming up. I’ve seen firsthand the impact that CB has on its students, and I want that for my kids and their kids one day. Everything that Lasallian

education is about benefits kids in such positive ways. It is important that we invest in continuing this legacy and giving this opportunity to others.”

“While my sister and I graduated from St. Francis, I have so many great memories of time spent at CB and friends who attended the school,” says Sandy. “I loved the atmosphere and all of the time I spent on campus. My niece is graduating in the 150th class and it’s been so sweet seeing her blossom. My own daughter will be attending JustinSiena High School (the Christian Brothers school in Napa) in the fall. We want as many kids as possible to have this Lasallian legacy.”

“For decades, Helen and Bill supported Christian Brothers, joyfully and quietly, never seeking recognition, always guided by a desire to lift others,” enthuses CB President Dave Perry, Ed.D. “Helen continues that mission today with grace, faith, and an unwavering belief in what this school makes possible. Even more beautifully, the Pierson legacy has taken root in their children, Jimmy, Cindy, and Sandy. They give not because they must, but because like their parents, they understand the impact that generosity can have on young lives.”

“This award means so much to my sisters and me,” says Jimmy. “It’s humbling and a bit overwhelming to even be mentioned in the same sentence as past winners like the Burfords, the Ingoglias, our parents, and the many other past honorees. We still have a lot to give, and we don’t take this lightly.”

On February 8th, on its traditional date before the Super Bowl, 400 Alumni gathered on the Christian Brothers High School campus for a night of great food, drinks, and CB camaraderie for the annual Alumni Dinner. With a sold-out crowd of 540 alumni in the building, the energy in the room for the 2026 Alumni Dinner was undeniable. Seeing graduates from the 1950s through the 2020s gathered together under one roof was a powerful reminder of the lifelong bonds that connect our Lasallian community across generations.

ANNUAL AUCTION

Excitement was in the air at the Christian Brothers’ Annual Auction as guests gathered for an evening of enthusiasm, joy, and genorosity! Attendees gathered in the Jack Witry Field House for the Silent Auction, followed by a dinner and spirited live auction in the Ron Limeberger ’53 Gymnasium.

The CB tuition assistance program is the largest in the region providing access to a quality, Lasallian Catholic education and impacts every student at Christian Brothers High School. In partnership, the community raised over half a million dollars in proceeds that directly benefit CB students. It is amazing to think that 150 years ago, the women of St. Rose Parish were rolling up their sleeves and planning an Easter Week Fair to raise funds for desks and furniture before Christian Brothers High School even opened its doors.

Fast-forward a century and a half, and that same generous, can-do spirit is still going strong in our Auction Committee and event co-chairs, Samantha Ansted and Judy Bernacchi.

This year, more than 300 alumni, families, and friends gathered for our annual auction, A Night to Remember, and what a night it was! From strolling through historical displays to sipping signature cocktails, enjoying delicious bites, and enthusiastically bidding on standout silent and live auction items, guests had plenty to celebrate. Best of all, the evening honored our rich history, embraced the joy of today, and helped ensure a truly transformative experience for CB’s students now, and in the future.

Thanks to the incredible support of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and guests, the evening raised over half a million dollars for education and tuition assistance. These funds will help expand access, open new opportunities, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of all of our students. Brother Bertram Society

Founded in 1994, the Br. Bertram Legacy Society was established to honor those who have generously remembered Christian Brothers High School in their estate plans.

The Christian Brothers High School Legacy Society is named in honor of Br. Bertram Coleman, FSC. He was known to generations as a beloved teacher, friend and Brother. Held in high esteem by alumni, parents and friends of CB, Br. Bertram lived fully the mission of St. John Baptist de La Salle, believing always that a school was the best place to touch the hearts and minds of young people.

In his 70 years of service, Br. Bertram lived as a passionate advocate for Lasallian education and ardently committed to educating the poor. He served as a teacher, high school prefect, vice principal, athletic director, coach, director of student Brothers at St. Mary’s College, principal, development director, Brother Visitor, alumni director, Director General at Mont La Salle, and district archivist. Br. Bertram fully understood the depth of what it takes to make a school successful, both in the day-to-day operations and also in the long-term growth of the institution.

Whiteney Jensen ’96 recently retired from her position as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) after nearly two decades.

She returned to Sacramento after retiring from USAID and looks forward to continuing her service by making a positive impact at home.

Garrett Thomas ’06 is proud to serve as Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Guardian Protection Force, Inc., who now provides security services for the Christian Brothers campus.

Marlon Hernandez Lara ’08 was named in Sacramento Business Journal’s 40 Under 40.

He currently serves as the legislative director for the California Restaurant Association.

High school sweethearts Matt Willis ’15 and Alex Landeros ’14 are engaged!

Molly Hallsten ’16 will begin her Large Animal Surgery Residency at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences this summer.

Haley Egger ’19 earned her master’s degree in legal studies, summa cum laude, from Purdue University Global, all while living her dream of working at Disneyland.

In May 2026, Julia Brousseau ’22 graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a minor in Educational Psychology, Magna Cum Laude.

During her time on campus, Julia was also an active member of Chi Omega. Julia’s foundation was shaped in a Lasallian classroom, where she first learned that education is as much about heart as it is about intellect. These lessons have followed her all the way to graduation day and now onward to her career, where she’s ready to put them into practice in a whole new classroom in Sacramento.

Jake Elorduy ’22 is set to graduate this spring from the University of Puget Sound with a double major in business and communication. Jake is the president of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, works as a campus tour guide and for Logger Athletics. After graduation, Elorduy will remain in the world of athletics, working for the San Jose Sharks professional ice hockey team as an inside sales consultant.

Alumni Engagement Over the last few years, the Office of Alumni Engagement has been building relationships with alumni with the goal of jumpstarting a committee of passionate members.

Ryan Lee ’19, recently achieved a major breakthrough in his career, earning the commission to paint the album cover for one of his childhood heroes—rapper Earl Sweatshirt. Ryan contributed artwork for Sweatshirt’s latest album, Live Laugh Love.
