THE SOLUTION
THE RESULTS
Partnering with ASA University was Rampart’s master solution. As a trusted training partner for educational offerings grown for the industry, by the industry, ASA University was a natural fit as Rampart turned their attention to building their new training program. As they looked to build a program that would continue to evolve, they recognized continual development of both content and content delivery from ASA University and found a perfect fit. The added benefit and support of ASA-U staff advisors sealed the deal.
James Perry, Vice President and Colin Perry, CEO of Rampart Supply, Inc.
THE CHALLENGE Rampart needed an updated training program that was efficient and effective. Rampart Supply, Inc., a local independent plumbing, heating, and PVF wholesaler established in 1968 with three storefronts in Colorado and approximately 280 employees, was faced with training challenges. Although employees were regularly engaged with traditional (and arguably outmoded) training via workbooks or time-intensive job shadowing, Rampart’s training program was unsustainable. Relying on these methods to fulfill their training needs took significant time and effort – time Rampart couldn’t spare with their rapid company growth, growing need for onboarding, and mass retirement of tenured staff. Unwilling to compromise their customer serviceoriented business goals, it was clear another solution was needed. A solution that would allow them to onboard new employees in an effective and efficient way, while attracting talented team members with an eye on their professional development.
Change is difficult and there was some initial resistance to changing the training approach throughout the organization. Overall buy-in continues to be an ongoing conversation within the business, but with several new hires successfully completing training and exhibiting a higher than average degree of skill in their role, this resistance is waning. Over the past year, the training experience has continued to gain popularity and receive positive feedback from Rampart’s employees. Gone are the days of juggling time-intensive, one-on-one job shadowing or selfguided workbooks; Rampart’s new approach and commitment to training has boosted Rampart’s reputation as an idealized employer, and gives them an edge in recruiting prospective employees.
Rampart leadership started with a top-down approach, and dove deep into learning more about their training challenges. Once these needs were identified, Rampart leadership took it a step further by creating a vision for their company-wide training program. This new and improved program would focus primarily on a robust onboarding program, relying heavily on ASA University’s role-based training tracks already offered as part of ASA-U. These tracks served as a solid baseline to build customized training pathways and holistic training experiences for employees at all levels of their career. Benefits of the new program included use of targeted online curricula on a variable schedule – solving the issue of time drain and improving ease of use and access to training.
