NETWORK2022 President’s Letter Worthy of your time We all have tremendous demands for our time and attention. I know when I am invited to attend a conference like NETWORK, I always stop to evaluate whether it will be worthy of my time. Is it worth being away from my family and my business? Is it an effective use of my time where I will find value and tangible results? Knowing these are the expectations we all put on our work travel, we pushed hard to create a schedule at this year’s NETWORK that we believe is worthy of your very valuable time. For the first time this year, we assembled a committee of volunteer members to review last year’s highly successful NETWORK program and challenged them to find ways to exceed that success this year. I am proud and excited about the program they have prepared for this year’s conference in Chicago. Eleven educational sessions presented by highly regarded thought leaders as well as panel discussions of industry experts are sure to create takeaways well worth your time. Also, there will be a return of the highly popular “Great Ideas” roundtable sessions, where last year attendees received over 100 best practices to improve their businesses. And a glimpse at the 2023 economic forecast from ASA’s Chief Economist will help make this year’s conference extremely valuable. You will find in this year’s NETWORK brochure that we will be exploring several exciting and diverse topics such as the impact of AI, winning the talent game, and navigating the supply chain woes. In addition to this strong educational offering, there will be more than two days of networking opportunities to help expand your peer networks. We all find the educational sessions to be valuable. However, we also know that some of the best takeaways and insights are found in the casual conversations that happen with industry friends and peers throughout the conference. The education is valuable. The networking is invaluable. I know you have many choices of how to spend your time. I believe that as you review the strong and exciting program that we are offering you and your teams, you will agree that NETWORK2022 will be very worthwhile. I look forward to seeing you in Chicago to celebrate our industry conference, together. Be well, Bill Condron, ASA President American Supply Association

HEADLINER BEN SAUNDERS Staying Motivated and Resilient in Isolation Ben Saunders is a record-breaking polar explorer, a TED ‘master storyteller’ and an advocate for future pioneers. Across two decades – and more than a year on the ice – he has covered more than 4,500 miles on foot in the polar regions. His accomplishments include leading The Scott Expedition, the longest human-powered polar journey in history, and the first completion of the expedition that defeated Captain Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton, a 108-day round-trip from Ross Island on the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole and back again. Ben is the third person in history to ski solo to the North and South poles and holds the record for the longest solo Arctic journey by a Briton. In many ways Ben Saunders is the ultimate ‘remote worker.’ On his record-breaking solo expeditions, he has to perform at the highest level while several thousand miles away from his colleagues and team that he has to be willing to trust with his life. This physical fragmentation – rich in logistical and psychological challenges – is something businesses and their leaders the world over has been plunged into in recent times. Drawing on his experiences – of more than a year spent cumulatively alone in the Arctic and Antarctica – he shares his hard-won lessons on sustaining resilience, personal motivation, and emotional wellbeing when the chips are down.

NAVIGATING THE GROWING COST OF HEALTH CARE
Health care costs are rising and bring with them new challenges and greater transformations. To deal with these rising costs, many companies are looking at innovative avenues for health care delivery and ways to mitigate expenses while improving access to care. In this panel discussion, hear how leading industry companies are attempting to stay ahead of these changes, keep costs low for their company, and provide greater care for their employees.
Ian Heller
WHO’S AFRAID OF THE BIG, BAD DISRUPTORS?
Formidable companies are accelerating their efforts to take share from distributors. Well-capitalized and aggressive, firms like Amazon, Home Depot, Berkshire Hathaway and others have bought distribution firms or set up their own divisions to compete for the hearts and wallets of B2B buyers. Distributors must respond and have a variety of choices, ranging from meeting these competitors head-on to folding up shop and selling out. But each of these disruptors is taking a different approach, meaning the threat varies greatly based on industries, segments, product lines and more.
Ian Heller of Distribution Strategy Group will help you sort it all out during his educational session. He’ll explain the strengths and weaknesses of each disruptor and offer specific advice for actions you can take immediately to build up your defenses and protect and grow your market share. Ian’s expertise comes from more than 30 years’ experience, including serving as a senior executive for four, publicly held distributors and years as an independent, strategic advisor.

Panel Discussion Moderated by Dirk Beveridge, UnleashWD THE SOUL OF YOUR BUSINESS: WHAT MAKES A WINNING CULTURE IN A POST PANDEMIC WORLD
While visiting 34 distribution businesses during the height of the pandemic, Dirk Beveridge uncovered three elements of culture that separate top-performing companies from the rest. He discovered that the leaders in these businesses intentionally foster an authentic culture that becomes the company’s soul. This culture is the foundation for attracting and retaining quality talent while fostering a high-performance environment. In this inspiring and insightful presentation, Dirk will outline the three pillars of these standout cultures: Purpose, People, and Family. You’ll leave the session energized to evaluate your culture against these pillars with specific steps you can bring back to your business.
Panel Discussion Moderated by Scott Robertson, Robertson Heating Supply Co. HOW DISTRIBUTORS ARE NAVIGATING SUPPLY CHAIN DISRUPTION AND HANDLING ALLOCATIONS WITH THEIR CUSTOMER BASE
Supply chain disruptions caused by the pandemic and world events have placed operational challenges on the industry like they never have before. Companies are trying to rapidly address the needs of their customers, routes to market, and their own business needs. By taking the right actions, supply chain leaders can turn these disruptions into advantages as they seek to support and satisfy the needs of their customers. In this panel discussion, we will explore how leading companies are navigating disruption in the supply chain and how distributors and manufacturers are handling product allocations to their customers.
