Samuel Preston presented with Ben Foley Award Congratulations to Samuel Preston, who was the 2016 winner of the Ben Foley Award. Mr Ben Foley was a strong and positive male influence and connected with students through his passion for surfing, supporting the growth of the young men at CBC Fremantle. The perpetual trophy is in recognition of his commitment to the young men at CBC and the pastoral support he offered his students. The Ben Foley Trophy is awarded to a member of the surf team who displays the qualities that align with Ben’s teachings and to the attributes of the CBC gentleman.

Wedd Cup returns to Morgan House Morgan House has enjoyed an extremely narrow victory, on countback, ahead of Samson House to reclaim the coveted Wedd Cup for 2016. First place in the area of Service and Sport, backed up by a solid performance in coming second in the area of Academics pushed us over the line. In recognition of their efforts, all Morgan students will be taking part in the Wedd Cup Half Day celebrations on Monday 28 November. The boys will be treated to ten pin bowling at Melville Superbowl in the afternoon. Students are asked to wear their Morgan House shirt and sports uniform on this day. Dismissal will be at 3:15pm as normal. Mrs Samantha Emslie Head of Morgan House

Academic Excellence Programme (AEP) STEM afternoon AEP Maths & Engineering and Science & Technology students had the privilege of hearing Ms Nina Levy, principal engineer for Fugro Offshore, speak at their last meeting for the term. She spoke about her experiences as an engineer and the projects she has worked on all over the world. Nina also spoke about the opportunities in over 50 different engineering disciplines and pathways to study to become involved in this kind of ground-breaking work. It was a most interesting and inspiring afternoon. Mrs Marilyn Schmidt AEP Coordinator CBC Fremantle Newsletter | Week 7 Term 4 | Page 7

What did you think of The Rite Journey (TRJ)? It was an eye-opening experience. It was fun too, the camp was fun.

What did you learn? I think I learnt how to become a better person and learnt some good leadership skills on the camp.

What did you learn? How to operate with other people and in groups.

What did you think of The Rite Journey (TRJ)? It was really cool. We got to talk about our feelings and stuff during class instead of actually having to do any work.

Who was your TRJ teacher? Mr Correia – he’s a good person, a good role model to look up to.

Page 8 | CBC Fremantle Newsletter | Week 7 Term 4

Who was your TRJ teacher? Mr Binet – he was a good teacher.

What did you learn? How to be a good guy. How to deal with situations as a man rather than a kid. Who was your TRJ teacher? Mr Silver – he was the best one. He was actually like one of us and treated us like an adult.

Matt Gaschk Year 9

Tom Stanbury Year 9

What did you think of The Rite Journey (TRJ)? I thought it was pretty good. Mr Burgio helped me realise what it really means to be a man and how to become one.

Who was your TRJ teacher? Mr Carter – he was really good.

What did you learn? How to be a good man.

What did you learn? How to treat people properly and how to manage situations and just to slow down. Who was your TRJ teacher? Mr Burgio – he’s a pretty real person; he’s very down to earth.

Who was your TRJ teacher? Mr Burgio – he was pretty good, he was down to earth. He never avoided topics, he just went for it. He was always telling us the right things and wrong things in life. He wasn’t telling us how to live our life; he was giving us the guidelines that we should live life by.
