DIRECTOR'S LETTER

Welcome back to Henderson Theater!

At its core, Pegasus Production Company has always been about empowering students to work together to achieve and succeed on a level that they cannot reach on their own. It’s about creating a community focused on one common goal that eventually becomes a family where individuals will work together to help each other achieve their individual goals. With such lofty and universal goals, it seems silly, almost irresponsible to limit ourselves to the current CBA population. A few summers ago, I tested out the idea of putting on a summer production with a small group of alumni. We learned things along the way and despite some hiccups, the idea continued to grow. This weekend marks the next steps forward in that idea. Not only have we ventured into the world of musicals for our summer shows, but we also now have a CBA produced community theater program. This is certainly cause for celebration and the realization that we have succeeded in creating and growing that community that Pegasus is so proud of.

To be honest, like many things performed in this theater, the idea for this show came from the students. Without their passion for this specific show, it never would have been on my radar. I saw the pros and cons but decided to go forward and trust that I would pick up on their passion. I didn’t need to wait long. As soon as word went out that we were holding auditions, we were flooded with alums and community members that wanted to audition and help out with the production. Over two dozen alumni and an equal number of nonCBA grads worked together to put on this show. Seeing students from 10 years ago working with current and incoming students continually makes me smile. Whether they feel like a parent, a cousin, or a weird uncle, what we are doing here has all the makings of a quirky family that will continue to grow. While you are about to see what amazing things this family has put together, I can honestly tell you that the best part of this summer was that, at every rehearsal, I was surrounded by people who just loved being here. Honestly, at times, I felt like we were at Camp Half-Blood. Working together, away from the outside world, forming bonds, and preparing to face what is out in the real world. There were moments when I had my supportive family get me through the tough times, I could lean on my friends to face the next challenge and I’m sure there was a moment or two of divine intervention. No matter what, I, or more appropriately, we couldn’t have done this without the support of everyone reading this note. Thank you. We will certainly be back next summer and I hope, at the end of the show, you are singing along and we will see you next summer as well.

As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can't control, a destiny he doesn't want, and a mythology textbook's worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus's master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed in his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him. Adapted from the best-selling book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and featuring a thrilling original rock score, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed mythical adventure "worthy of the gods" (Time Out New York).
