PROJECTTYPOLOGY: OVERVIEW • Through extensive research and the discovery of flophouses, I discovered that I not only want to help the homeless community, but I want to find a way to stop the cycle of homelessness by providing affordable housing in a community setting. • Included through spaces such as craft rooms, daycares, fitness centers, dining hall, library, and lounges.161GOAL:Leverington Ave. Manayunk, Philadelphia 1:30 PM Leverington Ave ParkingLot WildeStreet

PRECEDENTSTUDYCASE VIETNAM HOSTEL:

DESIGN THAT ENCOURAGES FAMILY BONDING: Building personal relationships are critical during a time when you can feel completely isolated. Displacement of housing can result in the loss of a sense of belonging. These spaces help build relationships not only with family members, but with other families by bonding over similar hobbies. These hobbies can be crafts, music, reading, and spending time lounging and getting to know one another. These rooms help build communication skills and individuality. The multiple space types generate a creative outlet. This hostel-type plan can be a renowned idea for a new type of affordable housing while maximizing space. A similar idea is to have a welcoming space that encourages people to interact with one another to create a community. Like hotels, the hostel does provide bedding, such as blankets, sheets, and pillows, as well as towels for showering. If one wants a more private space, there are other types of sleeping arrangements than the dorm-style. There still is a central lounge for a place where visitors can still socialize with the other guests along with ceiling openings for an abundance of natural light.

view of life the built environment replicates the lives within. These dysfunctional families can create a beautiful structure and surroundings that allow for pockets of retreat for bonding. This purposely steers away from clean ‘ideal’ forms and the forms created follow this dysfunction.

Placed rooms within the dysfunctional pathway. This pathway connects all the rooms in a venturous manner that allows for interest as you proceed through the space. Taking a step back organizing the placement of the rooms was key due to the large building. Block planning started to help layout the rooms to make the space practical. As the arrangement of rooms were being configured the idea of openings on each floor started to occur with direct skylights above and helped create double heighten zones.

In specifically children, purple stimulates the part of the brain related to creativity. Neutral colors such as warm browns and whites are associated with nature, deeming as reliable and positive. It is a less serious color from black and creates peace and serenity. Browns should be used in areas for relaxation.
