The Crossroads and Horizon Juvenile Centers Resident Handbook was edited and illustrated by residents of a NYC Administration for Children's Services (ACS) secure detention facility, as part of a Creative Art Works after-school employment program. The idea behind the redesigned handbook was that incoming residents would be more likely to read and absorb content that reflected the aesthetics and language of current residents. The content is organized to provide the most useful information a resident might need as they move through the juvenile justice system, starting with the admission process to the facility and ending with their court date and possible outcomes. A glossary of common terms and legal definitions is also provided.
