You have to ensure that its ration contains enough body-building nutrients and the necessary energy.

Proteins and amino acids are the body’s building blocks.

Proteins (and therefore, essential amino acids) are needed for muscles to grow and develop and also for muscle recovery. Developing and maintaining muscles takes a lot of energy. LAMINITIS: A PAINFUL CONDITION Laminitis is a condition in which inflammation occurs in the lamellae between the hoof corium and the hoof capsule.

The inflammation causes severe pain in the feet. Laminitis is frequently the result of metabolic problems. An excess of sugar and starch or fructans (sometimes in combination with protein) in the grass can cause laminitis relatively quickly.

A healthy weight as the basis for a strong start (BCS 5, max 6).

At the beginning of pregnancy, there is no need yet for additional nutrients and/or energy.

The mare can be fed and continue her activities as before.

As from the 7th month, it is necessary to supplement the mare’s feed. A feed rich in protein, which is also rich in trace elements and vitamins (copper, zinc, manganese, calcium, phosphorus & magnesium), is the best choice. As from the 8th month, the mare can no longer supply sufficient copper herself.

Sufficient copper in the mare’s feed is essential to prevent joint problems later in the foal.

A healthy weight when the foal is born without immunity.

The foal must build up passive immunity as soon as possible after birth to prevent bacterial and viral infections.

This is achieved through the colostrum, which must be absorbed by the small intestine within 24 hours after birth.

Mares need extra energy and protein for milk production and for their bodies to recover. Increase the concentrate fed to the mare.

Allow the foal to get used to concentrate 1 month before weaning by supplementing with foal pellets.

Independent and without growth stopping and starting.
