1st Director of Atlanta School of Social Work Mr. Moore served as Director of the Atlanta School of Social Work and a Professor of Economics and Sociology at Morehouse College. He left in 1922 to complete his social work studies at Columbia University.

E. Franklin Frazier

2nd Director of Atlanta School of Social Work Dr. Frazier guided the School from 1922-1927. He was committed to researching the problems of Negros, particularly the Negro family, which was evident in some of the early curriculum

courses.

Forrester Franklin Blanchard Washington

3rd Director of Atlanta School of Social Work

Mr. Washington served as Director of the Atlanta School of Social Work (1927-1947) and the Atlanta University School of Social Work (1947-1954). His previous work was also affiliated with the Urban League with the Armstrong Associates of Philadelphia, PA. It was through his efforts that the SSW became affiliated with professional organizations.

The Whitney M. Young, Jr. School of Social Work takes a moment to acknowledge and thank Dr. Richard Lyle for 39 years of service to the School of Social Work. Dr. Lyle served with distinction as Associate Professor and Director of the PhD Program for 33 years. He retired from the University on May 15, 2020. Dr. Lyle began his career at Atlanta University (now known as Clark Atlanta University, [CAU]), Fall 1981 as a Specialization Coordinator in the School of Social Work MSW Program. He immediately moved to PhD faculty, and later becoming Director. During his tenure in the School, he served in numerous capacities: Director of the PhD Program and Interim Dean on three separate occasions, while continuing as PhD program Director. His most significant contribution as PhD program Director was his commitment and service to doctoral students.

Dr. Lyle received Emeritus Faculty status on May 19, 2021.
