winning all our remaining matches but Ossett losing almost all theirs.
Today we entertain New Mills. Full credit must be given to New Mills for this season, I cant imagine how hard it must have been as I know we are only a place above and I know how that feels!
I write these notes prior to them playing Witton Albion so they may nave already picked up more points. The game against them was a killer, we dominated the second half but as our form has showed this year we didnt take our chances and the domination of possession to win the game and they sucker punched us with ten minutes remaining.
I wish the club all the best for the future and hope we meet again at some point. We won a home game!! The first since September. When we had back to back wins against Radcliffe and Mossley I never thought it would be April before our next.
i want you to be aware that we havent given up the fight, we showed that against Prescott and certainly in the second half.
We beat Prescott and deservedly so. It was a relief I have to be honest. After the Mossley game and then Farsley I thought we were never going to get over the line but we did and it was a great 3 points.
I just think realistically we need to plan for next season and it looks like that will be in the North East Counties unless we gain a reprieve or we do get the great escape.
I stand by what I said after the Ossett Town match however and that is that we have left ourselves a bit much to do now and we are relying not only on ourselves

You have made my first season as a manager enjoyable and I hope to have many more, whether that is with Harrogate Paul Beesley controls the ball against Prescot Cables
Railway is out of my hands but I hope it is, I love the club as much as you do and have done my best this season although I may have come up slightly short when the season ends. Thanks for your support and I hope we can go out in our final 4 games with a bang. Enjoy the game,

Rogers’ Header Edges Ossett Towards Safety Harrogate Railway came out of last Saturday’s six-pointer second best as they were defeated 2-1 at Ossett Town.
draw would be better for them than it would their visitors, and subsequently got men behind the ball and looked to hit on the counter.
The home side came flying out the traps and went close within the first minute when the returning Danny Frost flashed a left footed shot across the face of goal.
Railway had a big appeal for a penalty turned down in the 73rd minute when Matty Lovegreen’s long throw found its’ way to the back post where it looked to be handled before Dan Thirkell could reach it.
Former Town striker Nathan Curtis then almost found the opener with a powerful shot, but Tom Beaurepaire saved well to keep the game goalless.
It wasn’t given though, and six minutes later Simon Rogers, the only survivor from November’s abandoned match, broke the hearts of Railway.
After 20 minutes, Frost made Ossett’s early dominance pay off as he powered in unchallenged following Chandler Hallwood denying Alex Peterson’s free header from six yards out.
A rare Ossett free kick inside the Harrogate half was not cleared properly and delivered back in towards Rogers who acrobatically looped a header backwards and into the far corner.
Amar Purewal then fired Railway back onto level terms when a long goal kick picked out the Darlington loanee, who expertly held off his marker and darted towards goal before shooting right footed into the far corner.
Paul Beesley, introduced in the second half, created Railway’s final chance to salvage a point deep into stoppage time, but his knock down towards Purewal was fired over.

Second Half Comeback Sparks Survival Hopes Nathan Curtis and Charlie Clamp struck within the space of four second half minutes to complete a come from behind win against Prescot Cables last Monday night.
Thirkell slid a pass to Amar Purewal who tried to lift over the advancing ‘keeper but placed his finish the wrong side of the post. With Lee Ashforth knowing something had to be done to haul Railway back into the game, the gaffer introduced Paul Beesley and switched to a back three just after the hour mark.
Rob Doran wasted no time finding the net against Railway for a fifth time this season, latching on to Lloyd Dean’s through ball and placing into the bottom right corner in the third minute.
The move paid immediate dividends as Stephen Bromley bent a pass in behind the Prescot defence that Curtis raced on to and remained composed to level the scores.
Railway first made inroads towards the Tigers goal after 29 minutes when Curtis cut back from the left by-line and powered towards goal, only for a visiting defender to get his body in the way and block.
Before Cables had chance to react, Railway claimed another as Harry Coates spread the play left towards Purewal who accelerated past his marker and sent a low cross in to the path of Clamp to bury into an empty net.
The hosts twice thought they had levelled in the dying stages of the half when Chris Ovington smashed past Marcus Burgess on two occasions only to be flagged offside both times.
Second half substitute Will Peers then came a fraction away from sealing the win deep into stoppage time as he crashed an edge of the box volley off the inside of the post.
Three minutes into first half stoppage time Railway created their best chance when Dan

WHO ARE NEW MILLS? New Mills AFC, based in the High Peak of Derbyshire, have continually been at the forefront of organised football in the area.
in 1982 ) and enjoyed another successful period under the guidance of manager Tony Hancock and assistant Paul Kirkham.
The Club’s home ground, regarded as one of the most picturesque in non-league football, is situated opposite the impressive St George’s Church and has a splendid backdrop of Kinder Scout, which is the highest point in the Peak District National Park.
After winning the Second Division Trophy in 2007, the following season saw the team break numerous Club records as they won the Division Two Championship by ten points.
The Club’s facilities are quite considerable. Covering well over three acres of land, the Club has a floodlit playing arena, an all-weather pitch suitable for a number of sports which is used by local schools and the local community in general as well as a thriving Clubhouse. The game of football has been played in the town of New Mills since 1886 when the Club, originally known as New Mills St George’s, first played in friendlies before joining organisations such as The North Cheshire League and ultimately The Manchester League. After playing at several grounds, the Club moved to their present home of Church Lane in 1922 and this coincided with a hugely successful period in the Club’s history as they recorded two Manchester League titles and four Derbyshire Divisional Cup wins. These successes lead to average home crowds of around 2,000 and eventually saw no fewer than six players transferred directly to Football League Clubs. More great days followed in the 1960’s under the leadership of Joe Martin but following a move to The Cheshire League in 1974, lean times eventually lead to New Mills ceasing playing. Fortunately, local amateur side Birch Vale and Thornsett FC were looking for a new ground and within twelve months, they had adopted the name of New Mills and began to progress firstly via The Lancashire and Cheshire League and then The Manchester League. New Mills re-joined The North West Counties League in 2004 ( they were founding members
2008/09 saw another trophy triumph, The League Challenge Cup, but following an unprecedented twenty one game winning run, promotion to The Unibond League was only denied by a last day defeat at AFC Fylde which resulted in the team finishing runners up on goal difference. The 2009/10 season again saw The Millers as bridesmaids for the second successive season as this time Newcastle Town grabbed the solitary promotion place to The Evo Stik League. The Club also enjoyed success in The FA Vase and reached the last sixteen for the first time in its history before The Northern League’s Norton and Stockton Ancients spoilt the Wembley dream. Thankfully 2010/11 proved to be a case of third time lucky as New Mills finally achieved their goal of promotion to The Northern Premier League when they won The North West Counties Premier Division. Winning the first seven games of the season, Ally Pickering’s side set the pace from start to finish before being presented with the Championship trophy after the game against local rivals Glossop North End on Easter Monday. The team also reached the North West Counties League Challenge Cup Final but failed to achieve the double after losing narrowly to Winsford United. It was a successful season off the field as well as the Club achieved the prestigious FA Charter Standard Adult Club status which was an excellent recognition for all the hard work that has been put in by everybody connected with the Club. 2011/12 represented a significant landmark as the Club celebrated its 125th Anniversary.

Amongst many events which took place, probably the biggest saw Manchester United play a friendly game at Church Lane and the publication of “ The Millers Tale “, a book chronicling the history of the Club.
The first team, who endured a high turnover of playing staff, eventually ended in a mid-table position in Division One North whilst the reserves finished as runners up to Glossop North End in The North West Counties Football League.
That year also saw the first team’s debut season in The Evo Stik Northern Premier League and after being placed in Division One South, the eventual position of ninth represented a respectable finish.
The bright spark was once again provided by the Club’s youth team who lost only one game as they won The Stockport Metro Junior Football League Division One Championship by a fourteen point margin.
2012/13 proved to be another roller-coaster ten months. It was all change as the first team were reallocated into The Northern Division and new manager Roy Soule lead his side into the play offs where they were eventually beaten in the semi-final by two extra time strikes from Trafford.
The highlight of 2014/15 was undoubtedly provided again by the Under 18’s who completed the perfect League season – eighteen wins from eighteen games.
The reserves secured the Club’s ninth Derbyshire FA Divisional Cup North success following a thrilling 5-4 victory over Dove Holes at Silverlands, the home of Buxton FC, in April. The Club’s Under 18 side, which further developed the working relationship with New Mills Juniors, also brought some silverware to Church Lane as they celebrated their inaugural season in The Stockport Metro Junior Football League by winning The Division Two title. 2013/14 was an all-together more trickier season with the Club having to overcome many hurdles, none more so than contending with the wettest High Peak winter in living memory which
A good number of these young players were duly incorporated into the Club’s new Development Squad who finished in a very creditable mid-table position in The Western Division of The Lancashire League. Unfortunately the first team endured a campaign of almost constant struggle and were only reprieved from relegation back to The North West Counties Football League by The Football Association in May. Manager Roy Soule, who worked tirelessly during his tenure at Church Lane, tendered his resignation during the summer and was subsequently replaced by former Stalybridge Celtic assistant Andy Fearn.

Oliver Martin A goalkeeper formerly with Fleetwood Town and Stalybridge Celtic, he signed for New Mills in August 2015 after completing three months with Swedish club Ă…nge IF.
George Whiteoak A young central defender signed a few days before the start of the 2015-16 season from Droylsden. As a 16 year old and playing for Macclesfield Town, he was attracting the interest of Premier League scouts and made his debut in the 0-2 FA Cup reverse at Bolton Wanderers. Has also played for Alsager Town and Congleton Town. Ben Connolly Left sided midfielder/winger who signed for New Mills from Stockport Town in mid-September 2015. He was also part of the Wythenshawe Town team of the 2014-15 season. His previous clubs include Cheadle Town and Glossop North End.
Ryan Hopper Currently the longest serving player at the club. Still only 21, he has played with Oldham Athletic Youth before moving to Accrington Stanley for whom he made four Football League Division 2 appearances. A midfielder, he also had a spell on loan at Droylsden before joining New Mills towards the end of 2013. John Pritchard John was part of the Manchester United Youth set-up before moving to Oldham Athletic in April 2012. He made his debut for Oldham in December 2013 in a 2–0 defeat to Colchester United at Boundary Park. After two seasons was released and joined FC United of Manchester in August 2014. He moved to Trafford FC in 2015 and made eleven appearances for them before joining New Mills at the beginning of October 2015.

Jake Williams A pacy Right-back who can operate also slightly further forward on the right wing. He signed for Buxton from Ashton United in the week leading up to the start of the 2015-16 season. In early September he signed for Mossley before finally joining New Mills two weeks later.
James Constantine Midfielder James is in his second spell with New Mills. He signed in mid-September from Curzon Ashton and has previously spent time at Trafford FC. Paul Walley Signed from Wythenshawe Town in September, central midfielder Paul has previously played with Cheadle Town and Stockport Sports. Ross Needham A product of the New Mills Development squad, striker Ross has fought his way to a regular first team squad place. Dan Vinten Crawley born left sided player who was signed October 2015 from Stocksbridge Park Steels. He was previously a junior and youth player with Crawley Town and then played for Horsham Harry Coates wins a header against Ossett Town

Nigel Corner Harrogate Railway Chairman Good afternoon and welcome to station view for one of the final home games of a difficult season. When I agreed to come back as Acting Chairman in October it was to help steady the ship and hopefully give Lee the support required to help improve results
on the pitch until the end of the season. At the time of writing this it would appear, despite my best efforts, that we will have come up short. As much as it was lovely to receive praise and kind words for the very small part I
played in last seasons success story. It is only right that when things haven’t gone well that I hold my hands up and take responsibility for the disappointing season that we’ve just had.
Finally on a personal note, I wish to thank the members of the committee who have supported me during my time as Chairman and before that as General Manager during these last 4 years when I’ve been in the very fortunate position of serving the club I love.
I can only apologise and assure you all that I’ve done my best for the club we all love. As you will be aware my tenure as acting chairman ends after the last game of this season, with that in mind I want to thank you the supporters on behalf of the players, management, myself and the committee of this wonderful club.
Who knows what the future holds but one thing for sure Harrogate Railway will always hold a very special place in my heart and I look forward to returning as a fan. Thank You.

Points From the Past WHAT are the quirkiest grounds you have been to? Can I tell you some of my choices? Thanks. Many years ago in the fifties and sixties we used to visit Salts, in Saltaire, in the good old Yorkshire League. That’s in Bradford if you’re not sure. Lovely little ground, down by the canal. There was always a chappie there with a net on a long pole to fish the ball out. We never the “multi-ball” system in those days, just one match ball, maybe a spare if your were lucky. Usually the away team took its own kicking-in balls, the rules said that one had to be provided by the home club but it was generally one which had seen better days, more often than not it was a ball in name only. More recently we visited Gresley Rovers in the League Cup. Somewhere near Derby in the East Midlands. I’m not sure if they are still at the same location because I read that they were trying to move. I hope they haven’t because it was a ground I loved. Slap bang in the middle of the town centre. I remember driving to the ground (I think it was my turn) and being able to see the floodlight pylons but not being able to actually get near the ground, such was the topography of the area (there’s a word to conjure with). Always more difficult when you don’t know the area. A kind home fan on his way to the game explained how we
should get there and we did make it in time for the kick-off – just. I do remember it was a very entertaining and close game but only the one goal, for them in stoppage time. Nothing new there, then, I hear you say. I mentioned the Coach and Horses ground in Dronfield, midway between Sheffield and Chesterfield, in an earlier article. Very nice, and still going strong. A natural stadium. Actually on the outskirts of Sheffield itself is Sandygate Road, the home of Hallam, reportedly the second-oldest football club of all. Complete with a vicious end-to-end slope (putting our side-to-side slope in the shade) and, until the mid-sixties, changing rooms also in a pub, but, actually on the other side of the main road which runs past the ground. Somehow I don’t think that would fall under current regulations. Finally, Brodsworth, near Doncaster. Not so much because of its looks, but because of a local dog show, monthly I think, held on the cricket field adjacent to the football ground. Invariably we would arrive on show day, as the judging was taking place and, with the changing rooms housed in the cricket pavilion, players, officials and spectators all paraded right through the proceedings on the way to the pitch.
