Welcome to Prescott and their management team for tonights game at Station View,
the rewards that we deserved, the Mossley away fixture being a great example, leading 3-2 in injury time only to lose the game 5-3.
We played them away from home a few weeks ago and lost in the end 4-2.
Then the Farsley game. I want to touch on this one a little more, we started superbly and should have taken the lead in the first ten minutes, Farsley then got on top, mainly due to our shape, the wind and the slope all being in their favour, for them that understand the game they will have noticed that we changed the shape and defended for the first half and went to make sure we were still in the game at half time in the knowledge that the second half would play differently.
Their centre forward on the day scored all 4 and was simply unplayable. We need to reverse that result now in the position we are in and fight for our lives to stay in this division. I am writing these notes prior to our ‘cup final’ against Ossett Town on Saturday and I wont surmise where we are in relation to them as they will have also played Bamber Bridge at home before this fixture.
This was what happened and in the second half we got a hold of the game and could have gone on to win the match, although Farsley could have nicked it too.
Its safe to say it is a two horse race for survival now and we are still well in it hopefully!

that now has to be our target. The table is currently in Ossetts hands but if we win all our matches I do not believe we have a problem and that is our aim and was before the Farsley game, additionally if we dont get beat between now and the end of the season we also have a great chance of staying up so we need to keep plugging away and trying all we can to solve this. Injury Time Shock For Harrogate Railway
Harrogate Railway conceded three goals in second half stoppage time after looking like they would claim all three points from their trip to Seel Park.
Purewal with Paul Beesley, and the dual registered Harrogate Town man soon repaid the faith of his manager, expertly picking out the far corner when given space in the box.
Chris Ovington finished off an incisive Railway move for the opening goal as Nathan Curtis slid the ball into the path of Charlie Clamp who picked out the former Ossett Town man to slide in.
For the remaining 20 minutes of normal time Railway held firm with Simon Parkes in particular breaking up Mossley attacks with well timed tackles.
The equaliser came in the 32nd minute when Tom Pratt was released by Mike Fish behind the defence and kept his composure to beat Chandler Hallwood.
With the referee signalling five additional minutes, Doug Carroll attacked down Railway’s right before picking out the far corner with an inswinging cross/shot to tie it up.
Two minutes after the re-start and the impressive Pratt was again put through by Fish and again remained calm to finish the move and put Mossley ahead.
Just as Railway were coming to terms with having to settle for a point, it was torn away from them as Carroll was quickest to react when Hallwood parried a skidding shot.
Ovington soon got Railway level though, after Harry Coates had driven towards goal and picked out the unmarked Ovington inside the area, the winger lifted the ball high into the back of the net for his second of the afternoon.
Rail piled men forward in a desperate attempt to salvage something from the game but were undone on the counter attack as Pratt again sprung the offside trap and finished well.

A Fighting Harrogate Railway Earn a Share of the Points Chris Ovington’s fifth goal of the season moved Harrogate Railway a point closer to safety on Bank Holiday Monday following a 1-1 draw with Farsley Celtic.
Ovington was alert enough to intercept an under-hit pass back and roll past Tom Taylor into the net. After the hour mark, Chandler Hallwood sprung to his left to keep out Savory’s finish after the Farsley number nine’s classy first touch had given him a clean view of goal. Railway came closest to taking the lead through Amar Purewal in the 84th minute as the Darlington loanee bent one towards the bottom right corner that Taylor pushed behind at full stretch.
Railway created the first chances of the windy afternoon when Harry Coates headed Lawrance Hunter’s corner into the keeper’s arms, who then made a smart save to beat away Ovington’s fierce shot. After a quarter of an hour, Farsley began to find their rhythm with Lewis Nightingale pulling the strings and only being let down by a tame finish after a clever one-two on the edge of the box.
The game looked to have a winner in it and Savory came inches away from finding the elusive goal as he curled onto the post after Hallwood had to stretch high to keep out Robbie O’Brien’s scuffed shot.
Neil Parsley’s men’s pressure then paid off as Aiden Savory created space for himself inside the Railway penalty area and found the bottom corner with a low drive.
In the end a point apiece was a fair reflection of the afternoon with Farsley having the lions’ share of the first half but Railway looking much improved in the second.
Railway came flying out of the traps in the second half and soon levelled the scores when

WHO ARE PRESCOT CABLES? Prescot Football Club was formed in 1884 and the first organised game of Association Football ever played in Prescot took place against the second team of a local St Helens side, St Thomas. Prescot lost 3-1.After playing friendly games for the first five years, Prescot entered the Liverpool & District League in 1889. Prescot’s highest finishing position in that league was third in 1891-92, the year in which Prescot entered the FA Cup for the first time. A home game against Crewe Alexandra attracted 3,000 spectators to Prescot’s ‘Slacky Brow’ ground, where Prescot were beaten 7-1. Prescot joined the Lancashire Alliance in 1895 and were champions in 1899-1900. The club finished bottom the following year but joined the higher standard Lancashire League for 1901-02. A ground dispute resulted in Prescot dropping out of the league in 1902-03 and Prescot FC was dormant until 1906 when an athletic and football ground was opened at Hope Street and Prescot Athletic FC, was formed. Prescot Athletic started in the St Helens & District League and won the championship in the first year, after which they joined the Liverpool League for four seasons. The Liverpool County Combination became the Prescot club’s sixth league, in 1911-12.
sponsorship, the club’s name was changed to Prescot Cables and the team colours became black and amber to commemorate a bit of local industrial history, as the first successful insulated cable drawn at Prescot was covered with black and amber paper. Prescot Cables joined the Lancashire Combination In 1928-29 and, in 1929, applied to join the Football League Third Division (North), along with four other hopefuls. All the applicants failed, although one, Mansfield Town, was successful two years later. Prescot’s association with the Lancashire Combination lasted for almost 50 years, apart from a brief spell spent in the Cheshire County League in the 1930’s. Prescot’s only league championship was achieved in 1956-57, although they were runners-up in 1930-31, 1931-32, 1932-33, 195253, 1957-58 and 1958-59. Prescot Cables changed its name to Prescot Town in 1964 but the club struggled and in 1975, it was voted out of the Lancashire Combination. Prescot Town joined the Mid-Cheshire League and won it at the first attempt. In 1978-79 they returned to the Cheshire County League, in Division Two, after an absence of 42 years. Prescot were Division Two champions the following season, with Accrington Stanley as runners-up.
Leagues were suspended in 1914 for the Great War and the post-war Prescot club dropped ‘Athletic’ from its name and joined the Lancashire Combination Liverpool Section.
In 1980, the name of Prescot Cables was re-taken and in 1982, Cables became a member of the newly formed North West Counties League where they remained for 20 years.
In their first season, 1918-19, Prescot finished runners-up to Tranmere Rovers but did not fare too well the following season and the club returned to the more locally-based Liverpool County Combination for the 1920-21 season and spent a further seven years in that league.
Prescot finished in the top 10 in NWCL Division One in all but one season since 1990 and, in 2001-02, the club had its most successful season for over two decades, winning the Worthington Challenge Trophy (League Cup) and finishing as Division One runners-up, narrowly missing out on promotion to UniBond League Division One.

For the season 2004-05, Prescot found themselves playing at the highest level in their history. Due to a suitable finishing position, and the re-organisation of the football pyramid, Prescot took their place in the Unibond Premier Division.
Joe managed to bring some much needed stability to the club as the team finished in mid table. 2010 saw some of Cables regular performers leave for pastures new and several fresh faces arrive.
As a result of a team unable to forfill their fixtures, and after the controversial intervention of the FA, Cables were elevated to 5th position in the league.
Gibiliru was relieved of his duties around the time of the big freeze in December 2010 and assistant Dave Ridler took over. He managed to secure Cables Evo-Stik league status for another season.
Cables had the opportunity to gain promotion to the Conference North, however, defeat at Workington in the first play-off game ended that dream - for now! For the season 2005-06, it was a case of consolidation with a new football committee being formed from the Supporters Club. The previous football club, Prescot Cables, was transferred over to another organisation, namely Prescot Football Club Ltd (although trading as Prescot Cables Football Club). The club produced another mid-table finish in the following season to avoid becoming involved in another non-league ‘shake-up’ that saw two Unibond First Divisions being created for the 2007/08 season. On the final game of the 2007/08 campaign, Prescot was 15 minutes from relegation. Two late goals secured a win at Lincoln United and survival. Due to the tightness of points and goal difference, Cables eventually finished in 13th place! Shortly after the season’s end, the ground was purchased by Triman Developments Ltd from Mr Mercer’s company (the former Chairman of the club, Prescot Cables AFC). The current football club are working on ground improvements in order to provide the team and supporters with an opportunity to move forward. A dreadful 2008/09 season saw Prescot propping up the Premier Division. Manager Andy Gray
The 2011-12 season was a tale of five managers. Dave Ridler (who left for Australia in January 2012), Karl Bell, Karl Connolly all took charge for at least one match. Following the controversial departure of Shaun Reid to Warrington Town in March, Joe Gibiliru took over for the remaining games. The team and club re-grouped after the Reid fiasco to finish the season strongly to defy the odds and remain part of the Evo-Stik League. David Powell was the new man in charge for the 2012-13 season. A virtually new squad assembled with inconsistent performances and results as a consequence. The playing surface and weather conditions forced many postponements. When matches finally began in earnest in the New Year, Cables produced one of their most successful periods since the 2003 North West Counties campaign. A scheme asking donators to sponsor a pitch square in order to afford the much needed renovation the pitch, took on a life of its own. In the end the scheme became over subscribed. Circumstances arose that led to David Powell leaving the club. In his place for the 2014-15 season came Neil Prince, who at 31, must be the youngest manager in Cables history and probably in the current Evo-Stik League. With limited resources the team managed to secure their Evo-Stik status.

Points From the Past NOTTINGHAM. A city in the East Midlands and one we have visited once or twice over the years. The areas of Arnold and Long Eaton come into this evening’s ramblings. I vividly remember a trip to Arnold Town when Paul Marshall was manager, circa 2000, and during that season we weren’t doing very well at all. It was the Northern Counties East League premier division and we were finding points very hard to come by. Well, it just so happened that our reserves had no game that day and virtually the whole reserve team, plus a host of juniors, clambered aboard the bus that was to take us to pastures new. Arnold were doing quite well at the time and, on paper at least, they were favourites. But no bookmaker in the world could have bargained for the support that the team had that day. From the moment the game started to the moment the game finished the vocal support was unbelievable and was worth at least a goal to the lads. We won 2-0 and it signalled the start of a revival that was to carry us to safety in the table. It just shows what that sort of positive encouragement can bring. Long Eaton comes into the equation for a different reason. We have won there as well but it’s an article in an old Long Eaton programme that I wish to replicate
tonight. I have written and spoken many match reports over the years and have been trained to convey a neutral stance, no matter how biased I may be or where my allegiance lay. Here’s a report of a local derby in the programme in question… “A classic football cock-up. Poor team home to championship challengers. Great opening stuff from the football team has poor home team in trouble. Opening goal a thinking man’s goal, poor home team out thought. Poor home team resorts to high energy game, late tackles and offside trap. Physical play goes unpunished, offside decisions doubtful. Frustration sets in. Good team starts to copy offside tactics, retaliates with hard-tackling. Game becomes rubbish to watch and to play in. Good team lowered to level of poor team. Two late goals by home team clinch game 2-1. Good team conned.” Sounds as though the away boys had a bad day. I’m sorry, but I’ve never been able to subscribe to the theory that defeat is caused by poor opposition “dragging a team down to their level”. If a team is as good as it thinks it is it should be capable of beating a poor team, no matter what tactics poor team decides to adopt.
