Welcome to Station View for todays visit of Farsley Celtic,
was only a friendly and I did not do it on purpose but now looking back as manager I fully understand the frustration!
I welcome Neil Parsley and Lee Conner and their team for todays game and wish them a Happy Easter Monday.
I also know Lee Connor well, after playing in the same team as him and keeping in touch through the last few years, he is a great guy and knows a lot of people, he has been great since he came in at Farsley and I am sure there climb up the league was not solely down to him, but it certainly coincided with his appointment.
I played under Neil at Guiseley when I first started playing semi-professional football. He probably wont remember but we played Glasshouton in a pre-season friendly and I conceded the softest of goals.
There are several Farsley players who I know well, Ross Daley, Paddy Miller, Chris Howarth, it will be great to see them, football circles are small, and these people you contact and speak to regular throughout a season.
It was a cross come shot that went in halfway up the goal, I remember him giving me the biggest doing since I swore at my dad as a 4 year old!!
When you are feeling at your lowest, these are the kind of people who drop you a text, or a call, theres no replacement for that, and I have a lot of time for these type of people in the non-league game.
I was only saved by the then assistant Clive Freeman who attempted but failed to calm him down. I soon left after that and signed for Harrogate Railway!! I remember thinking, it

I am fortunate to have made a lot of friends over the years in football and I hope that these friendships continue when I eventually finish with the game that I love.
I would be a fool to think I have done everything right in my first season as manager but I can say I do not regret any decisions I have made but have learned from them.
On Monday night we brought Paul Beesley off the bench, Paul is the 41st player I have used this season.
For the first time after the Witton game, I heard rumours, probably false of people asking if my position was under threat, I do not believe it is or ever has been.
If you had told me that at the start, I wouldn’t have believed you but we have rebuilt the team I think twice within the year. Once at the start and once towards the end of January. If you look at Monday nights starting eleven, only 4 players started who started the season with us. Most of the changes were made because I felt at the time we were improving the team, and I stand by those decisions. Ok, so we have not had the season we had wanted and we will probably look back in May and wonder if we would have done certain things different.
This club that we love always back the manager and they have backed me through a truly difficult season. I believe I have supported them back by giving my absolute all through travelling, watching matches and I promise you spending the most of every day dealing with something to do with players or the club. I would not change it, I love it, I love the challenge. We are now at the business end of the season and we wont give up without giving our all right until 4.45pm on April 23rd.

Harrogate Railway 1-2 Burscough
Rail Comeback Falls Short as Burscough Triumph Harrogate Railway suffered a narrow defeat to Burscough for the second time this season as The Linnets triumphed 2-1 at Station View last Monday.
Despite Harrogate’s dominance, Burscough had a chance to restore their two goal advantage eight minutes before the break as Anthony Brown prodded goal wards after a scramble in the six-yard box, though Hallwood blocked the finish at point blank range. Hallwood rushed out to save with his feet minutes later, denying Newby whose pace had exposed Railway on the counter attack.
Simon Parkes fired a speculative first shot of the game over from 40 yards, but it was Burscough who took an early lead when Paul Williams curled a dead ball past the Rail wall and into the far corner. Seven minutes later and the visitors had doubled their lead when Will Jones was quickest to react to Elliot Newby’s low left wing cross, stretching ahead of Chandler Hallwood to lift the ball over the stopper and in.
Goalscorer Curtis looked the most likely to pull Railway level in the second half, shooting hard into the arms of Hare from 30 yards and pulling one wide of the near post nine minutes later following Coates’ clever back-heel.
Railway quickly began to get on the front foot and saw their pressure pay off as corner was flicked on by a Burscough head towards Nathan Curtis at the back post who emphatically volleyed home on his left foot.
Mark Beesley’s side were running out the clock effectively with referee Peter Henger reluctant to speed the game up, or brandish a red card to Williams who escaped with only a booking after connecting an elbow with the face of Coates.
Calvin Hare was then needed to keep his side ahead after Harry Coates headed goal wards from a corner only for the Burscough ‘keeper to tip over the bar at full stretch.
The visitors did have the chance to seal the win in the 89th minute, but Hallwood was well positioned to deny Jones’ near post finish with a comfortable save.

Magnificent Mayers Hat-Trick Downs Railway Louis Mayers’ hat-trick prevented Harrogate Railway moving out of the drop zone last Saturday afternoon as they were beaten 3-1 by fifth placed Clitheroe.
minutes after play resumed, a low cross from the left was not dealt with, allowing Mayers to scramble in his second, despite the best efforts of Alex Low on the line.
Mayers sparked the contest into life 11 minutes in as he produced a contender for goal of the season, watching a cross field pass run across his body before arrowing a volley into the opposite corner.
The visitors were then given the chance to extend their lead on the hour mark when Luca Mellor was fractionally too late and body checked Brandon Barski a few feet inside the area.
Sefton Gonzales almost doubled Clitheroe’s lead just three minutes later, looping a header goalwards only for Will Peers to head off the line.
With the confidence of his earlier brace, Mayers never looked in doubt from the spot and expertly found the bottom right corner. With ten minutes to go, Woodhead suffered what looked like a serious injury when clattered into by his own defender and had to be replaced in goal by James Walker, as Garner had no more substitutes available.
With seconds remaining until the half time whistle, Clitheroe player-manager Simon Garner conceded a spot kick as he tripped Nathan Curtis, moments after the striker had deceived defenders with a neat turn inside the area.
Despite the man advantage, it was Clitheroe who came closest to adding to the score-sheet when substitute Michael Hampson found himself one on one with Hallwood but slid his finish inches wide, while Railway couldn’t test the stand in ‘keeper in the closing stages.
Amar Purewal stepped up and sent Benjamin Woodhead the wrong way for his third Harrogate goal to give Railway a lift just before the interval. The lead was short lived however, as three

WHO ARE FARSLEY CELTIC? The current football club was formed in June 2010 from the embers of Farsley Celtic F.C which entered Administration in June 2009 whilst in the Blue Square North and which failed to fulfil its fixtures eventually being expelled from that league early in 2010. The old Farsley club (the name Celtic being added later) initially competed in the Leeds Amateur leagues and played its first game at the current site in 1948. Throughout the 1950’s and 60’s Celtic established themselves in the Yorkshire Leagues, being crowned champions in 1959-60 and 196869, although failing to be promoted as a result of ground regulations. A First Round FA Cup tie against Tranmere Rovers at Leeds United’s Elland Road ground in 1974 proved to be the highlight of the decade, and the 11,000 crowd that saw the Celts lose 2-0 to a Steve Coppell inspired Rovers is still the largest crowd in the club’s history. As the Yorkshire and Midland leagues merged in 1982, Farsley began in Division One North. By the mid 80’s the club was invited into the Northern Premier League. After a few largely uninspiring seasons, the new decade brought unparalleled success. In 2004-05 under the inspired management of Lee Sinnott, the team won the Unibond League Premier Division only to have points deducted as the result of Spennymoor Town going out of business and its results being expunged. The reduction in points resulted in the Celts securing only a play-off place, losing controversially on penalties against Workington in the final. Promotion was secured the following season after a playoff final victory against North Ferriby and in the following season, the club’s first in the Conference North, they reached the first round of the FA Cup losing in a replay to MK Dons as well as securing promotion to the Conference National following a memorable evening at the Pirelli Stadium in Burton Upon Trent, when
Simeon Bambrook’s last minute penalty saw the Celts beat Hinkley United 4-3. A single season of Conference National football resulted in relegation to the Conference North. On-going financial difficulties saw the Administrators appointed in June 2009 with the club’s results expunged in March 2010 when the Administrator prohibited the club from fulfilling its fixtures. The re-formed club were placed in the NCEL Premier Division for their first season which turned out to be highly successful with a league and cup double recorded. Many of the former players remained loyal to the club and top spot was held for much of the season, with the title confirmed on the penultimate weekend of the season. The club also reached two cup finals, the NCEL Presidents Cup, in which Tadcaster won but the season ended on a positive note with the League Cup being lifted despite Farsley having to play the majority of the final with 10 men. The 2011/12 season was almost as successful, with a top five spot being secured ensuring qualification for the play-offs. Unfortunately, the semi-final opponents were Witton Albion who won 3-0 and deservedly booked a place in the final, going onto win promotion after defeating Curzon Ashton in the final. The following league season didn’t quite go to plan with a disastrous run in the closing months, saw Neil Parsley’s side go without a win in the final eight games. Inconsistent form before this point had all but put an end to the club’s play-off chase and a 14th place finish was all that could be mustered. On a positive note, Farsley reached the quarter-finals of the Doodson Sports Cup. After beating Ossett Albion and Clitheroe, Continued Page 17

Farsley beat Premier Division opposition Whitby Town and Worksop Town before bowing out to Matlock Town in the final eight. Last season saw Farsley finish in mid table in twelfth position, after being as high as second place in late November. Despite a poor run of form after Christmas the side made it through to the Final of the Doodson Sport Cup against Warrington Town at Edgeley
Park. Despite a goalless score line at full time Farsley eventually lost out on penalties. The game proved to be the last for the club as Farsley AFC as they they had their original name reinstated through the close season. On May 19th 2015 the club were officially known as Farsley Celtic FC once again.

FARSLEY CELTIC PLAYER PROFILES
Neil Parsley – Manager After a 12 year playing spell, Neil first went into management with Guiseley, taking them to the First Round of the FA Cup consistently, and winning the West Riding County Cup. The club decided to dispense of his services in November 2006 despite the club holding top spot in the league. He then moved onto North Ferriby United where he guided the East Yorkshire side away from the threat of relegation and also winning the East Riding Senior Cup at the KC Stadium. After a difficult start to the 2007/08 campaign, the club parted company with Neil and he then moved to Farsley, as assistant manager to John Deacey. Farsley and Deacey parted company in October 2008 following relegation and following a successful spell as caretaker manager, was given the role full-time. Parsley agreed to manage the new side for the 2010/11 season and guided Farsley to NCEL Premier Division and League Cup double in the club’s inaugural season.
playing in midfield, played for Wakefield after initially leaving the club in 2011. His highlight for Farsley was scoring a hat-trick during a 4-1 win over Padiham in the 2013/14 season. Aaron Hardy (Right Back) - returned to Farsley in October 2013 following a spell with Skrill North side Guiseley. The right-back had originally joined Farsley at the start of the 2012/13 season from Bradford Park Avenue but when Conference North football came calling at Nethermoor, he made the decision to jump ship. Aaron began his career at Huddersfield Town, where he made 15 Football League appearances for The Terriers and has also had spells at Harrogate Town and FC Halifax Town. Kyle Harrison (Centre Back) - initially joined the club in October following a spell at Conference North side Guiseley. But after being often called back by the Lions, the former Bradford City youth player’s loan was ended as Farsley found a permanent right-back in the shape of Mikey Aspin. However after he was released by Guiseley in the summer, the defender made his KEY return to Throstle Nest.

Tom Taylor - returned to the club in November 2013 after a spell at Ossett Town. He originally played for the club in our inaugural season when he was just 17 back in 2010/11. He moved on during the 2011/12 season and gained invaluable first team experience at Brighouse Town and then Ossett Town before returning to the club mid-way through the 2013/14 season. Taylor has had a really impressive season between the sticks last season, winning the Evo-Stik Division One North Young Player of the Year award.

Avenue after the old club’s demise in March 2010 but returned to the reformed club that summer and has played in almost every game over the past five seasons. Paddy Miller (Centre Back) - initially left Farsley AFC for Bradford Park Avenue at the end of the 2013/14 season, a campaign for which he was honoured with the player of the season. Having completed a pre-season with Bradford he was snapped up by Tadcaster Albion and played there for just over a year. In October 2015 Miller made the return to Throstle Nest to play for the club he first represented at youth level.
Ross Daly (Centre Midfield) - had a very brief loan spell at Farsley during the 2012-13 season but moved permanently in October 2013 after being let go by John Deacey at Bradford Park Avenue. The 25-year-old has also previously had stints at Thackley. Jordan Deacey - the attacking midfielder, son of former Manager John, joined the club at the beginning of January, and scored on his debut. Deacey started his career with Bradford Park Avenue and has also had spells with AFC Telford and Boston United in the National League. Kyle Hancock (Centre Midfield) - A product of the Farsley AFC Academy side, teenager Kyle Hancock was promoted to the first team over the summer after impressing the management over the past couple of seasons. Made his league debut for the senior side in the final game of the 2013/14 season against Mossley. Chris Howarth (Midfield) - Experienced midfielder Howarth signed for the club in late October 2015 from Bradford Park Avenue. Chris has captained Wakefield and Emily, and played for Harrogate Town, Garforth and had a previous spell with Farsley Celtic.

The former Huddersfield Town trainee linked up with Mossley at the start of the 2012/13 season. Robbie O’Brien (Centre Midfielder) – Captain Robbie joined the club in February 2013. He began his playing days in the youth sections at Leeds United and Doncaster Rovers but was released in the summer of 2004 and subsequently joined Harrogate Town. He then moved onto Wakefield and Gainsborough Trinity before joining Ossett Town in 2005 and then switching to Bradford Park Avenue in 2009. Neil Stevens (Centre Midfield) - Stevens progressed through the youth ranks at the club and was part of Farsley Celtic Reserves 2007/08 Lancashire Reserves League winning squad. He broke into the first team squad during the following season but later moved onto Evo-Stik Premier side Buxton, where he has remained ever since. Lewis Sugden (Central Midfield) - Lewis signed for Farsley Celtic in the summer following a spell with Chesterfield FC. A central midfielder, Sugden is also captain of the Farsley Celtic Under 19’s Academy. He made his full debut in the FA Cup match with Stocksbridge in August 2015. Leon Osbourne - was signed in the close season having had spells with Harrogate Town, Southport and Bradford City. He made over thirty appearances for League One Bradford before leaving the club in 2012. Osborne made his debut for the club in the opening game of the 2015/16 campaign.
Rhys Jenkinson (Winger) - joined the club in the summer from League One side Bradford City. Rhys, who operates on the left of midfield, has also played for the academy side at Leeds United.
Aiden Savory - signed for Farsley at the start of the 2013/14 season. He had originally made his name on the West Yorkshire non-league circuit with Ossett Town and Bradford Park Avenue before moving over to Australia for a spell. He returned to the UK in early 2013 and originally joined Goole before linking up at Avenue again. However he became available in that close season and was snapped up by Parsley, finishing as top scorer with 19 goals in his first campaign.
Lewis Nightingale (Winger) - was our first signing of last season, returning to Throstle Nest at the beginning of June. The winger was part of the 2010-11 NCEL Premier Division winning side, joining during the latter months that season and subsequently joined NPL Premier Division side
Paul Walker - originally joined the club on a long term loan deal from Bradford Park Avenue, before making the move permanent in November. He has made an instant impression since arriving at the club with his strike play. He has also played for Liversedge, Garforth and Buxton.

Purewal Hoping to Come Back Stronger Amar Purewal’s February loan move from Darlington 1883 to Harrogate Railway sent shockwaves around the Evo-Stik Division One North. The 26-year-old striker has an outstanding record at this level of football having become the first Quakers player to score over 50 goals for the phoenix club. Purewal played a huge part in Darlington’s promotion from the Northern League Division One in the club’s first season, but was dealt a cruel blow the following December after sustaining a cruciate ligament injury at Radcliffe Borough. Now looking to get back into the routine of playing regular football, Purewal talks about the lows of being injured but insists he has come back stronger. He said: “I’ve been through the mill and back with my injury really, you’re gutted and in a mentally weak place. “Your teammates and your family get you through it though, and when you get back playing you come back mentally stronger, you deal with things a lot easier than what you would have before you got your injury. “I’ve been out for so long that my body is not used to playing, so the aim is just to get minutes in and get used to playing again. “I spoke to Nathan Cartman after I heard of the initial approach from Lee Ashforth and he couldn’t speak highly enough of the club!” Purewal certainly made a good impression on his debut, netting twice in the first half against New Mills to send Railway towards their first win since November. And although getting back to full fitness may be the primary aim, Purewal recognises the club’s current situation and is

ready to give everything to help the cause. He said: “There was a bit of pressure at New Mills because I’d seen the position in the table and where the club was at so it was a must win. “I was happy to get on the score sheet and hopefully I can start to complete 90 minutes and put in good performances. “I’ll always give 110% for this club, I’m here now and I want to give my best for them. “As a player I want to be known as a handful! I want to be known as someone who can come and get the ball, turn away from someone, get my back to goal and run in behind as well.” Keeping Railway in the Evo-Stik would certainly be a fantastic achievement for Purewal, who highlights his success at Darlington as the best period of his career to date. Purewal is an extremely popular figure among Quakers supporters, and the Panjab international believes that is partly down to being a Darlington original. He explained: “I think that’s possibly because I was one of the originals, I think there’s only two of us left since the club re-formed. “I would say that my best times have been at Darlington, because I’ve won two promotions there, the first one was special because I played a massive part in it. “I’ve always given 100% when I’ve played for them I think the fans appreciate it.” If Purewal can show the same ability and determination between now and the end of the season at Station View, there are sure to be many more good times ahead.

Points From the Past THE Coach and Horses. To most people that name will mean a public house. In northern football circles it is a public house, but with a difference.
in the Northern Counties East League with ourselves. Their chairman for a while was the Sheffield legend Derek Dooley whose illustrious career with the Owls came to a sad end when a fracture became infected and he had to have a leg amputated.
The Coach and Horses I am referring to is in a small town called Dronfield, situated about midway between Sheffield and Chesterfield.
His spell as manager at Wednesday was not quite as successful and after his departure from Hillsborough he took an administrative job at Sheffield United. He died in 2008.
At the back of the Coach and Horses in Dronfield there is a football stadium of long standing. It is now the permanent home ground of Sheffield FC, the oldest football club in the world, and after much redevelopment, it is now very impressive. My first recollections of the Coach and Horses go back to our days in the Yorkshire League when it was the home of a club called Norton Woodseats. The changing rooms were actually part of the pub then - we didn’t have far to go for the half-time pie, pint and banter. One visit to Norton Woodseats was on the day of the Boat Race and, following a period of heavy rain, the pitch would have been more suited to rowing than football. Our committee man Ivor Bottomley did our away reports for the local paper then, and his headline was “Railway sink on Boat Race pitch”. We lost 2-0, the game would never have been played nowadays. Norton Woodseats then transformed into Dronfield United and spent many seasons
Dronfield United folded in the 1990’s (although I think there is currently a Dronfield Town club on a different site). The Coach and Horses ground became available and Sheffield FC took the opportunity to move there after spells at the very top of Abbeydale Park (the changing rooms were at the very bottom) and the now non-existent Don Valley Stadium. Many Railway followers will remember our visit to the Coach and Horses under Martin Haresign in 2006 on the Thursday night we virtually clinched promotion to the league we are in now with that tremendous victory over Sheffield. Ten years later we are still hanging in there. To stay in there we have to remain optimistic. The lads are giving their all, they are in need of your positive encouragement. Let’s hear it for them today.
