I
would like to welcome all the players, staff and supporters from Campion for tonight's league cup game. As always I hope for an entertaining game played in the right manner. I write these notes after our great away win against Clipstone on Saturday. After getting an early 2 goal lead I thought we may of took our foot off slightly and once Clipstone got the goal it gave them a platform to get back into the game which was slightly frustrating. I keep stressing to the boys we have to be switched on for the full 90 minutes of games which can be difficult I know. The second half in that game we came under some pressure but we dug in and showed great character to get the winner late on after the game had been levelled. Always a great feeling to win, makes the weekend so much sweeter.

I feel the squad now is stronger with our additions, the games come thick and fast so it's important to have a strong squad to pick from. Confidence as I've said many of times before is massive in football. We need to keep pushing in every game. Although tonight is cup game I feel it's important to keep our momentum going so we will be looking for another win in what I expect to be a difficult game. The opposition have nothing to lose in tonight's game, I will be making sure we are on it from the very start and hopefully keep the recent positive results going. I urged everyone to get behind the lads tonight and hopefully cheer Rail onto another victory.

The Rail started Saturday looking to continue with winning ways for the visit of fellow NCEL Premier League strugglers, Parkgate FC. The fans barely had time to settle when Parkgate attacked and scored in the first minute of the game. James Handley giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. Harrogate Railway’s defence looked jittery as Parkgate’s confidence grew and they had three good chances to increase their lead in the opening 45 minutes, but couldn’t take any of them. Railway regrouped from the early shock of going behind and tried to get the ball down and play it around the pitch, however the visitors were snapping into every tackle to make life difficult for their hosts. Paul Beesley, Chris Ovington, Stephen Bromley and Greg Kidd had chances to get Harrogate back into the game, but each time they either missed the target or forced a great save from the impressive Joshua Lill in the Parkgate goal. Railway weren’t to be denied and on 43 minutes, Mike Morris found space to fire home the equaliser. It was 1-1 at half time with both teams showing that there were more goals in this game and to be fair, Parkgate must have been wondering how they hadn’t scored more than one. The second half started with Railway on the attack and that was the pattern for the remainder of the game.

Harrogate Railway hit the post twice, then the bar and forced a string of great saves from the Parkgate stopper. Ryan Sharrocks and Jordan Hendrie in particular were having great success down Railway’s right. Meanwhile, The Rail handed Albert Ibrihimi his debut when he came on in the 70th minute for the ever-dangerous Stephen Bromley. It took until the 78th minute for the next goal. The referee awarded a free kick to Railway on the right for a foul on the pacey winger. Ryan Sharrocks got up, placed the ball and delivered a pinpoint cross, which Paul Beesley met perfectly. The player/manager’s header powered past Lill in the goal, giving him no chance to make the save. Railway had the lead. The Rail pressed for a third, but despite a number of chances in the final ten minutes, they were unable to find the back of the net. The final whistle came and Railway had secured their first back to back win of the season, their first home win of the campaign and a vital three points that saw them pull out of the bottom three in the NCEL Premier League, with games in hand.

INTRODUCING CAMPION FOOTBALL CLUB The club was established by Michael Mahoney in 1963, with players coming from the St Edmund Campion youth club.
Full name Campion Association Football Club Founded 1963
In 1975 they joined Division Four of the Bradford Sunday League, and the following season also entered a team to the Red Triangle League, a Saturday league.

Although financial difficulties led to them dropping back into the Red Triangle League for the 1985–86 season, the club returned to the West Riding County Amateur League for the 1986–87 season.

In 1989–90 the club were Division Two champions, also winning the divisional cup.
Premier Division Cup winners 2003– 04, 2005–06, 2006–07, 2007–08; Division One Cup winners 1992–93, 1997–98;
They went on to win Division One and the divisional cup in 1992–93, earning promotion to the Premier Division.

Campion won the Premier Division Cup in 2003–04, and then three times in succession between 2005–06 and 2007–08.
West Riding Challenge Cup Winners 2006–07
In 2015–16 the club applied for promotion to Division One of the Northern Counties East League, which was achieved after finishing third.

The club operate a groundshare with Grimsby Borough, with both clubs playing at The Bradley Football Development Centre in Grimsby.
In 2010, the club merged with LSS Lucarlys and joined the Lincolnshire League.
The trivia surrounding the club is that they play their football in Grimsby, whilst the Town's professional side Grimsby Town play their football in Cleethorpes.
