INTRODUCTION Where has the year gone? It must be an aspect of getting older…time seemingly running away quicker than ever. Only yesterday, it seemed like June! However, it is December and I’m making plans for 2026. As is tradition…I’ve put together a review of my working year, selecting photos to go into the two different versions I create. The cricket season review will be published on New Year’s Eve and will reflect each game I attended and took a few photos at. This review is much simpler…in that, it showcases one main photo from each month and then has a few extra to help fill-in around the pages – such as this introduction. What these aren’t…are the ‘best’ photos I have taken throughout the year. These photos represent memorable moments, games, or events that mean something to me. You can find a brief description about each photo at the end of the publication. The year has been a bit of a roller-coaster, with a few ups and downs…but overall, I cannot complain about where I find myself as it draws to a close. There are changes to come during 2026, but that is a good thing, as any business cannot expect to stand still. I hope that you are having a wonderful Christmas break with your family, and that 2026 is a good one. My wish…is that 2026 will feature plenty of ‘Kodak-moments’ to be able to show you in twelve months’ time.

January: A shot towards the south of Harrogate with treetops of the Pinewoods and Rotary Woods in the foreground. 2025 was to see another round of Danone’s Harrogate Spring Water expansion plans being debated, with the possibility of mature trees having to be cut down to allow for the new buildings. February: Mike Bligh, manager of Knaresborough Town Women, discusses tactics at a Thursday evening training session with his team. The team has been in existence for three years and they have achieved promotion every year. At the time of writing, Town are in prime position to achieve an unprecedented fourth straight promotion in their league. March: Harrogate Railway beat Glasshoughton Welfare 5-0 at Station View in NCEL Division One. Rob, Fraser, and Lee have built a team capable of competing at the top end of the league, narrowly missing out on a play-off place at the end of the 2024/25 season. As January 2026 approaches, Railway are second in the league with games in hand...winning those games will put them top. April: A cup game at the Rachel Daly 3G pitch saw National League Halifax Women beat their hosts Harrogate Town 7-0 with manager Rob Mitchell having announced his departure from the visitors. Rob was, thankfully, to reverse this decision and stay with Halifax for the 2025/26 season. May: Little Ribston CC 1XI v Knaresborough Forest CC 3XI in the Theakston Nidderdale League. A beautifully warm Spring/Summer day at the beginning of the recreational cricket season. June: Harrogate and District Amateur Cricket League Peter Bentley Cup action between Starbeck CC and Burnt Yates CC on a wonderful Thursday evening as the sun was setting. A village cricket club with bags of character...if only all sport’s coverage was like this! July: Jonny Bairstow heads out to bat for Yorkshire CCC at Headingley against Derbyshire CCC. This is my favourite county cricket ground in England by a country mile. The less said about the result...the better! August: Laying down on the boundary rope and covered by ants as I captured a silhouette of the MCC player as the MCC XI took on a Theakston Nidderdale League XI at Whixley CC. September: One of my favourite shots from the year - Inspired by covering the S9 and D40 disability games between Yorkshire CCC and Lancashire CCC at Headingley. Two great games spoiled only by the weather. October: With England Women’s successes, grassroots women’s sport has seen another expansion - I was pleased to be allowed to cover the Harrogate Railway Development team take on Collingham & Linton Development Women in the West Riding League. The second shot is of Comet Swan as it headed away from the sun - don’t worry you can see it again in around 22,000 years! November: I love taking close up portrait shots in-game. This one is at a Harrogate Railway v Selby Town at Station View, as the home side continued their superb run of form...beating the visitors 3-0 in NCEL Division One. December: Another trip to, this time a very foggy, Station View as Harrogate Railway took on Appleby Frodingham and won 5-0 in NCEL Division One just before Christmas. I’ve been visiting Railway a bit more than usual in 2025, usually after commercial or editorial shoots in the morning. Previous Page: Rotary Woods in January - waiting for the sun and warmth to return and the leaves to grow.
